Hi Katy,

Nice to meet you.  I don't usually post in here but i think you're right on the money you know....saying that you sabotage yourself by bingeing.

I can relate to self sabotage....it's like i'm afraid to let myself be a success.  I guess i feel guilty if i have things that others don't have.  I'm also afraid of success....when everything's going really well i get scared that something bad must be about to happen.  Or that people won't like me if i'm too successful (the green eyed monster.....)  I'm going to investigate the idea of self sabotage both personally and the theory behind it.  I'll share anything worthwhile.

I'm really glad you posted about self sabotage, it's been a light bulb moment for me.  Thanks very much.

hugs to you.  i know how you feel.  some days i feel like no matter what i eat, i'll never feel full.  it's not true but the feeling seems so real.  i try to stick to my normal food routine but i might add one or two extras if i really need it.  or i might change a meal - for example i don't eat pasta much but at this time i might have spag bol or something richer and heavier than i'd normally eat.

hi new girl, welcome.  you've received some great advice from people here.  when you change your diet to lower the amount of simple carbs (such as white bread, rice, sugar, potato etc) you'll feel an improvement in your mood/emotions your energy and your hunger should decrease.

as for the 99c cheese burger, why not buy fresh wholegrain bread rolls and some cold meat from the deli counter and eat that instead?  throw some cheese or salad on it.  inexpensive, satisfying, healthy & tasty.

i agree with short, create a profile!

why don't you post a picture so people can see your body.  hide your face if you like but 124 can look very different on different people.  even if those people are around the same height.

hi emily, my thoughts are similar to nubikers.  it's not about the food.  in the past, i've used food as a distration in the exact same way you do.  for me it was just a distraction from what was really stressing me.  and you know what, it really worked for a while - it was a great (somewhat harmless) distraction.

after a while i could see the pattern and when i started obsessing about food, i'd ask myself - "what's really bothering me?"  i got better at dealing with whatever the problem/stress was.  it took practice and i needed to be really honest with myself and sometimes ask friends/family for help in dealing with whatever was bothering me.

Weight Loss Treats -- and how often we have them Oct 01 2006

lizzle, i think what your saying about the treat not seeming special anymore is something that i can relate to.

for many years i didn't eat any chocolate bars or cake or those types of treats.  then i went through a phase where i let myself have whatever i wanted whenever i wanted it.  you know what, after a while it wasn't fun anymore.  i lost interest.  it only seemed to be fun when it was naughty.  when it wasn't naughty and it was just food....well that was a bit boring.  i think it's a positive thing to let food become what it is.....just food.

so i'd say it's good to have a chocolate everyday.  i think bingeing on them is just a way to keep them naughty (because of course after binge they'd be on the banned food list again).  does any of that ring true for you or is that a bit deep?

you're right about some days being hard.  i agree totally, that's just life.  In the words of John Lennon -

"Nobody told me there'd be days like these...."

ok, that's useful information.  sounds to me like you're not eating regular meals at regular times.  for example, did you eat the egg, cheese and sausage biscuit as breakfast and then snack on the other stuff after that?

what was your food plan for the day?  what had you planned on eating for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

Fair enough, however your description of your daily eat as being:

on a diet i eat something for breakfast such as oatmeal, or something like that, then i drink water for lunch or a powerade i get home from skool i eat toast or a sandwich, then i walk dogs and with my friends then i sometimes eat dinner or something like a waffle with peaches and some cool whip on it

That doesn't sound like much to me at all.  It certainly doesn't sound like 2000 cals??   Am i missing something?

Maybe 1850 is what you should get but what are you getting?  Listen, we can save a whole lot of time and heartache right here by getting something on the table:  regular (healthy) meals at regular times is the key to long term weight management and overall wellbeing.  PERIOD! (i mean that in the nicest possible way)

Sorry if that sounds a little harsh but the truth of the matter is skipping meals and undereating (especially at your age) is a sure fire way to mess up your metabolism and a direct route to long term eating/weight issues.

Maybe your hungrier because your restricting calories.  It depends what you mean by diet.  If you're not physically hungrier, you might be rebelling against yourself.

More info would shed some light.  Eg. what would a typical day's food be when you're not on a diet and what do you eat when you are on a diet?

I agree with vamika, it's about fat.....in my opinion, loss of periods is very heavily related to how much fat you eat.

Do you have a very low fat or fat free diet?  If so, you'll likely have a prob with periods and that's where i'd start looking to find the problem.  Women need to eat some fats (doesn't need to be too much, but at least some).  Your body and mind with thank you.  ;-)

hi benjmum,  yes i'm certain that hormones play a big role in weight loss (if they are out of balance).  Do you have any medical info about what your hormones are doing, lLike a blood test?  It could be useful to know exactly where they're at.  What do you think?

I agree with all those who have said about increasing calories.

I would add that you can increase your calories all you like but if you don't eat any SOME FAT (doesn't even need to be much, just some) you can wave your menstral cycle goodbye.

True story.

Hi Trish,

I saw this post and even though it's a bit over i felt compelled to post.

I wanted to ask what was going on in the last week for you to sabotage yourself?  You said that you've lost the weight before and gained it all back.  I truly believe that unless we get to the bottom of why we behave the way we do, we can't really change (long term).   So, my question remains....what was going on?

This probably isn't a question you'd want to answer pubicly but as long as you can answer it privately, to yourself, I believe you have a great chance stopping it from happening again.

All the best.
