Thanks Melkor ( Truman) , I may log as Circiut training in the beginning and see how my deficit works and what fat loss I get from it. I did start off with a lower weight than I am used to, but was erring on the side of caution. I am not the most graceful person and can be downright dangerous to myself when jumping with weight in hand........... Thanks for the input and the great link to RFFL as well. |

| Recipes | Using " No Salt" instead of salt | Aug 04 2008 01:35 (UTC) |
|
The recipe is on the side of the wheat flour box. It is Hudson Mill Whole wheat Graham Flour. I am going to try the recipe tomorrow, will let you know how they come out. There isn't any yeast in this so I should be ok using my no-salt. as for no salt bread recipes, I still haven't found any, but ezekial makes a low sodium bread that actually lists sodium as "0" Mg, it isn't too bad as toast, noit quite cardboard. Ha Ha Thank you for the input. |

| Fitness | Inconsiderate people at the gym | Jul 14 2008 15:58 (UTC) |

I can understand your feelings and I agree with sharing 100% but....... One part of my leg routine is my warmup on the leg extention machine. It involves 15r, then 1x to failure, 2 min rest, 1x to failure, 10 sec rest, failure, 10 sec rest, failure, 2 min rest.... repeat X 3. It gets increasingly difficult to get off the machine and back on by about the 2nd 2 min mark. I do it if someone is waiting, but it is hard. I try to do my legs when there are very few people in the gym because my whole routine takes so much time on each station. Sharing the squat bar and the deadlift station is not an option , as the big boys lft so much heavier than I do right now. I can see the OP's point, especially when I watch a couple ( husband and wife) jump from this machine to that machine and back to this one and over to another one.... they flit around the gym with no purpose and tie up the machines for an hour., and have the audacity to get pissed if someone uses one of the 5 machines they are using. |

Starkist has a Very Low Sodium Tuna that I use, only 35mg per serving. 2.5 servings per can. I also use Mrs Dash brand and NO Salt brand for flavor. Garlic powder is good too for flavoring. I stay away from processed foods completely , cooking myself and have been able to lose 28 lbs and several inches since Feb. ( I also weight train so it isn't just diet) |

| Fitness | would you hire a quiet personal trainer? | Jun 30 2008 14:34 (UTC) |

I am not into small talk, but I need a verbal trainer to push me through when I am at failure, so I guess no, a quiet trainer wouldn't work for me. My trainer doesn't yell, but motivates when things get tough. We don't talk about anything except technique, form and weight. (some people need a Jillian, others don't) |

I use the stairmill only AFTER my weight training. Level 6-8 skipping a step and NOT holding on. Just using the rails for balance not leaning. Basically it just keeps me limber enough to drive home. But as floggingsully said what is your goal? |

| Fitness | Horrible headaches during workouts | May 27 2008 14:59 (UTC) |

My first headaches were food based, needed more protein and carbs prior to workout. That worked on those. This month I got a splitting headache that started from the back of my neck to the top of my head. This turned out to be a pinched nerve in my back. Between my chiroprator and my massage therapist I have those headaches until control. I have learned to do traction every night. and this helps as well. Good Luck. |

Thanks Melkor, I actually took the chance and got about half the bar down. It was terrible by the way. But my trainer didn't wig on me, it was a good choice at the time. ( I am on a very low sodium lifestyle change, hence the worry) |

I also opted for training. Along with it, I was put on a lifestyle change diet. Boy has it worked. I train with weights 3 x a week and eat clean daily. I have gone from 178 to 160 (all fat) and from a "big" 16 to a "small" 14. (I am almost in my 12's but they are a little snug on the hips) I have accomplished this in 6 weeks. I know people are going to say this was too fast, but the reality is, the fat just melted off. I have maintained and am actually eating more and still looking good. So go for it, the gym and the diet are my freinds. |

| No, muscles aren't twitching, more like .... hard to describe, crawling, or when you were growing, the muscle pangs where you would snap your arm trying to get the muscle to settle down. Like restless leg syndrome..... ( wish I could have a banana, not yet) Thanks though | |||

{{lexabear}} Thank you for your kind words, and for this memorial post. The Urn necklace is a wonderful idea to keep him close to you heart. I totally understand the keepsake box as well. I am preparing pictures for my blog today so my family across the country can share in his life with us. Muncie has always been one of our "kids" and our parents always ask about him. jules817, Thank you as well for your kind words. Our Vet is amazed that he has lived as long as he has. |

Wow, just wow. I found this post right after I got off the phone with our vet. I had to finally make the dreaded appt for our Muncie. My 16 yo Lab who has been a loyal friend is failing so quickly I can't put it off any longer. Just getting through today will be tough, telling my husband and the girls will be even more difficult. I am fighting with what is right and what is selfish. I don't want to do this, but my heart is breaking knowing he is in pain and can no longer enjoy a painfree bit of life. I think maybe this post is my sign that the time is now and it is ok to let him go. Thank you |

I have a question: Isn't it true after weight training, you need to get a protein in to help recovery,? My trainer will not let me do cardio after a session, I have to go straight home and have my protein and my carb within 30 min. I am doing 3 days a week with her, chest and triceps on day 1, back and biceps day 2 and lower body day 3. On occasion, if my legs are stiff and sore she will let me come in the next day to do a slow stretch on the treadmill, but absolutely not on a training day. I would be undoing all my hard work by doing cardio afterward. Granted I train hard and am on a strict schedule, but this will apply when I am maintaining as well. Back to the OP's question: If it were me: I have lost more fat weight training than anything else I have done in the past 5 years so: I would weight train 3 days a week, and do cardio on the oposite, or maybe do a class on the off days. My opinion only. |

| Fitness | Things that drive you crazy at the gym, and something embarrassing you did! | Mar 21 2008 16:21 (UTC) |

Annoying: These big meaty non weight lifting guys who bum rush a leg machine, put 50lbs on it, do 20 reps in 20 seconds and let the weights slam, jump off, pace in circles for 2 seconds, jump back on and do it again. Move to next machine and same, move to center to do lats same way, never wiping, always letting weights drop every time. (They usually come on packs of three) Aren't those machines designed for controlled movement, and dropping those weights is just plain RUDE. Embarrasing: oh which one should I choose? My biggest issue are my lunges, I can not get across the gym without falling. I really do look like a drunken sailer.....not so cute when I fall into one of those big meaty, non weight lifting guys. ( The weight guys don't bother me anymore, I stare them down and make room for me now.) |

I have found a rice sock works well in easing the pain. I use them for everything, headaches, muscle aches, backbone, even sinus issue on occasion. Using regular (uncooked) rice, fill a tube sock, knot the end, stick it in Microwave for 3-5 minutes, careful it WILL be HOT, lay it on sore area and relax. I still have to use the ibuprofen for tension headaches, but this works for all others. |

I can assure you it is not impossible to have lean protein and/or vegetables at every meal. I do it 6 x a day with very little effort. ( I work full time 45 min away from home, am raising 2 children and have a very active social life) As for the Fad diet (special K in this instance), no it does not work. Eating correctly and working out consistently does work. Good Luck |

amethystgirl _ I have a session with my trainer at 6pm, I will get the proper names for you. I use the barbells and do a forward move, knees slightly bent and bend forward as far as I can go with the barbell across the back of my shoulders,,,, that one really works the lower back on me. I use what I call the reverse situp piece of equipment, (lay over the top head down to floor and pull self up with back and leg muscles, I just added weight to this a week ago. I am still very new to this so bare with... Flys? or rows always work my back as well. I started out lower weights to see how my back would take it and she has been adding every week since. I have found the machines are a plus with my back as well, inadvertantly they help strengthen as well. For the first time in several years I can actually do crunches with out screaming in agony from the pain in lower back. I will IM or email you the list of names . |

amethystgirl, my chiro is VERY impressed with my progress in my back. I had a serious injury to my leg which caused significant shortening , as well as nursing home injuries to my lower disks. I have been able to strengthen the muscles so well, I now longer have hip displacement issues and they stay in place. I do still have issues with my neck disks and am working on posture in and out of the gym, but the headaches will get better I have been told. The point is take your time, use correct form and you can lift safely and strengthen those muscles. In the future you will need them to lift the wee ones. Good luck |

| I have to get in on this..... I am working with a trainer right now. I am weight training 3 days a week. Because of my strength I am able to do fairly heavy weight 3 sets of 15. By fairly heavy I am talking 45 lbs and up depending on the bar, machine and body part. My diet has changed drastically as well. I am on a high proteins, mid carb diet with NO sugar and No salt. In 2 weeks I have dropped 8 lbs, found muscles I didin't know I had and lost a size in the waist. I have always had large bicepts, they are now more defined but are not bulky........I have yet to see a woman in our gym look bulky ( except the one lady training for competition, which is the look she is going for.) Nuf said. | |||

My girls had a choice growing up, spit the bad word out or the soap. All I had to do was put the soap bottle on the counter and out came that word. I had the only 2 girls in softball who could spit like a trouper and didn't get ejected from a game for foul language.......Me I wasn't given a choice, hairbrush, shoe, yardstick..... I turned out fine as well. Different world today though, not sure if I would want to raise little ones now. Just sayin.... |
