marconi,

just a word about what you saw... that farmer and those huts are *typical* for dairy farms and veal raising.  that wasn't just one farmer - it's the industry standard.  (i'm from wisconsin - moo.)

things i've learned over time:

you may want to add just a bit of apple cider vinegar near the end of the cooking time of your beans.

also, if you can, soak your beans overnight before cooking.   the sprouting will help with easing digestion.

if you have terrible, painful gas, i suggest taking 1-2 T of apple cider vinegar with a 1/4c chaser of water.  this is also excellent for food poisoning.

good morning everyone,

im at 187.8 this morning - so i'm actually really losing by eating more, and can't quite believe it.  like, i'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, or something.

i'm sure i'll fluctuate up and down by several pounds in time... but it is kind of nice to see the scale weight actually going down.

i hope everyone has a great week!

hi everyone, i'd like to join this club!  i'm at 188.2 this morning, and that's down a bit for me.  i really enjoy the community aspect of CC and hope that you folks will help keep me accountable!  i've just recently gotten over (another) migraine, so my exercise level hasn't been really up there, but i've been maintaining at or slightly below my 1570 calorie intake.  i realize i have to do this slowly.  (i have to make a conscious effort of eating the full number on some days and then watch myself to not over do the calories on other days.)  but, at least i've learned that i shouldn't go under 1200 - i think that's what has contributed to my slow weight gain over the years.  i just wish i was more patient!  it seems like reaching my goal will take FOREVER!

best of luck to each of you,

holly

Weight Loss a bit confused about this eating-to-lose-weight thing. Aug 10 2006

Mercedes:

You make a good point about all the little things we don't think of that contain calories.  That's why I really like this site... it's great to be able to post what I eat from anywhere - it's very helpful. Thanks for the good luck, and much to you, as well!

Crankyone:

Yay! Another Holly!  You're right, it's really important to be careful about the makeup of those calories.  Refined sugars are not pals.  For me, regular exercise is my downfall.  I really need to make it, or rather, make me, a priority in my daily life.  Thanks for the tips!

potteryhoney, I can understand where you're coming from.  My
work  schedule has always been erratic, and so my eating schedule
schedule has been the same.  I'm working on making sure I eat a
breakfast and lunch nowadays, though.  I wish you the best of luck
and congratulations on the pounds lost!

Athena, thanks for the info.  It just seems so unnatural for me - I never considered myself to be starving, I ate what I ate and, granted, it wasn't on a great schedule, but it was generally healthy and full of nutrients.

Now that I've actually been counting my calories, I see how hard it is to get to the daily recommended numbers.  So, it's all a bit topsy turvey in my mind right now.

In order to subsidize calories, I've been eating those Kashi Go Lean Hi Fiber/Hi Protein bars, even though they seem a bit high in sugar.  What I don't want to do is end up eating empty calories just to reach the daily goal, you know?

Weight Loss Thyroid issues and weight loss? Aug 07 2006

Thanks for everyone's response.  I've been having some serious hair loss, fatigue and a bunch more issues... and someone suggested that I might have hypothyroidism.  This might also explain part of my weight issue, too, I've heard.  So, I wanted to check in and see what other's have experienced, as well.  Mostly, my concern is all this hair loss I've experienced lately.  And, it feels like straw.

Thank you,
Holly

hi everyone!

i'm just starting with this site and my new lifestyle of exercising and eating better.  i could really use a penpal to help me stay accountable.

i've been out of town for the last few days (went to see tom waits in memphis!), and i've been thinking about making a post just like this to see if anyone might be interested.  (thank you for starting this thread!)

if anyone is willing to take me under their wing (male or female), i'd love to chat with you about it.

thanks very much,

holly

alrighty, i'll throw in my hat. :-)

i'm a full-time student, but i'm 36 and really just starting my new major in nursing. (i have a bunch of years ahead of me in order to become a nurse practitioner.)

i have steadily gained weight over the years, and i'm just starting to lose some weight in earnest.  i am starting a walk-to-run 5k program as well as keeping track of my caloric intake.  i hope to lose 30-40 lbs over the course of the next year or so.  slowly but surely!

my biggest challenge is trying to make sure i keep my physical self a priority while going to school full-time and working part-time.

i wish everyone luck!

hi everyone,

i'm new, but i thought to add my goals for the month.  (looking for every bit of motivation and accountability i can find!)

  • i'm hoping to lose 5-6 lbs this month.
  • i'm meeting with my doc today and hope to start a run/walk program on the way to being able to run 5k.
  • i'm going to really try to drop some bad habits and pick up some good ones.
good luck to everyone this month!
