When I was anemic and needed to go to a doctor cause I knew I was sick, I had to complain constantly and be very dramatic before my parents would take me seriously. Its frustrating, but being super vocal and driving them nuts might do the trick to make them take you to a doctor. Also, don't get your mind set that it is diabetes. It totally could be something else. Either way, it sounds like you should visit a doctor. |

| I had the same problem until I had a breakthrough. I decided to try and eat three veggies a day and two fruits. That was the first step towards changing what I ate on a daily basis. I also switched over to all whole-grains. I went from being hungry when I went to bed to being totally stuffed before I reach my calories. | |||
| Weight Loss | Am I eating enough? | Jan 23 2008 23:03 (UTC) |

Thats just about exactly what I am eating and burning too and it's worked perfectly for me so far. And yes, make that deficit smaller when you are closer to your goal, so you can adjust to eating more normally. If you feel like you aren't eating enough, you are probably eating the wrong things. I fill my diet with veggies, lean proteins, and whole grains and I am stuffed by the end of the day and usually have enough calories for a little chocolate. Its all about eating the right things. :) |

| Just don't make it a regular thing and you'll be fine. Maybe in the future add a glass or two of skim milk, a couple pieces of fruit, and maybe some servings of whole grains. That would round out your nutrition nicely and probably push you over into a safer calorie amount. | |||

I LOVE flavorings by Kernel Season's. They are all natural and have like no calories or carbs and are really love in sodium. They have Ranch flavor which is my FAVORITE, also Sour Cream and Onion, Nacho Cheese, Parasean Garlic, White Cheddar, Butter, and many many many more! They are amazingly delicious. And using their butter powder is lower cal than anything else I could find. I use all natural pam to make it stick on air-popped popcorn. You can order Kernel Season's online, and some grocery stores in my area carry a few flavors. |

| Foods | Hi! I'm new, and have a question on fruits/veggies and weight loss... | Jan 18 2008 19:52 (UTC) |
|
I am eating 3 servings of veggies and 2 servings of fruit every day. I might work up to more later but this is easier to start with. Figure out what veggies you like. I love squash and I eat a squash every day for my afternoon snack. I also sauté carrots with some brown sugar which tastes a-mazing! Also, try drinking V8 Light Fusion. My favorite is Peach Mango. Its a serving of veggies and a serving of fruit and it tastes better than normal fruit juice. Just limit yourself cause its high in sodium. |

If you continue like this, you will only hurt your internal organs. Try adding more to your diet like veggies and other good carbs. Add a grilled cheese sandwich to your lunch, and a try switching to 2%. Try to get up to at least 1500 calories. If you are working out that much you really should be eating more like 2500. Calorie Count has tools to use that will tell you exactly.
Think about it this way. You are still growing, including your brain. So if you don't start eating more and choosing healthy food, you won't develop as healthy as you could and it will effect you your whole life. |

I find its not too terribly difficult. I eat two meals a day in our cafe and then I eat lots of snacks during the day. I keep my room stocked with frozen veggies in those single serving steamer bags, and also fruit and fruit fruit and whatever high protein snacks I can find. As for my meals in the dining hall, I go for meat and vegetables. Usually the main entrees are meat based, so I get one that doesn't look too high calorie, and then I get whatever veggies are offered. The trick is to keep a more healthy dessert in your room and swear off of the soft serve ice cream and cookies and french fries. :) My other trick is to check the menu beforehand. I have the menu page as one of my main favorite buttons between this site and facebook. I check the normal calories in foods before so I know what I'm getting before I head to dinner. |

Don't worry about the 4 calories in lettuce!!! I eat tons of veggies all day and I'm happy to look at my Food Log and see how they are only double digits instead of triple. A whole zucchini is like 30 or 40 calories. So much better than if I had sometime else. Its wonderful that you are already used to eating so many veggies. It'll make things easier for you. For me, it was a struggle to start liking them. But you won't be eating salads. I hate salads, lettuce makes me want to puke. On a daily basis I usually have milk for breakfast or occasionally cereal or eggs, and then a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch, with veggies for my snack. Then some meat and whole-wheat pasta for dinner with fruit for dessert. Doesn't that sounds good? My total calories daily are usually 1400. But if I have a low-cal meat or a lower-cal lunch I can pull it down to 1200. |

| well... try exchanging your bread in your turkey sandwich for Soft & Smooth 100% Whole-Wheat Bread. Thats an easy step. And try eating peas for a snack when you get home from work like before dinner. For me, I love zucchini. Its the only green veggie I'll eat so I eat one or two every day mid-afternoon or whenever I'm hungry. | |||
| Weight Loss | What is the best time to weigh myself? | Jan 12 2008 19:03 (UTC) |

| For me every day is a must or I'll cheat during the day. Plus, my reasoning is that if your weight fluctuates, you need to weigh yourself daily -- or on the one day you weigh yourself it could be unusually high or low from water retention or whatever. | |||

| I totally understand. For me, going low-carb makes me a monster. So I just don't do low-carb. But try eating some more fruit. The calories aren't too bad and the natural sugar will boost your mood. | |||

You really just have to come to the point where you decide you've had enough. Try a rewards system if you haven't already. You can check out my journal on that. Ever few pounds give yourself a reward. Something you really really want. For me its stuff that I really want but wouldn't buy myself otherwise. Stuff I don't really need but want badly. Then when you loose those five pounds again reward yourself and focus on the next reward. Also just do little things like clean out the stuff you shouldn't have in your house and cut desserts for a few weeks. |

Yeah, you need fat. But you need good fats - not like junk food fat. This is what I try to stick to: Fat: 20% Protien: 30% Carbs: 50% |

| Usually people gain weight by overeating on a daily basis. Binging occasionally will just keep you from loosing and it could lead to health complications. | |||

| Fitness | off the wall question? Nintendo Wii and loseing weight? | Jan 11 2008 06:13 (UTC) |
|
After spending the last few months playing Wii with my new boyfriend, I will never go without one again. It its all the fun of video games but with so much exercise. Obviously some games you can do sitting around, but with a lot of games, you are jumping in place and moving your arms back and forth as fast as possible and holding your breath hoping you win. When i have kids, Wii is the video system I'm getting them. Wii Sports is moderate cardio. Its fun. My favorite is tennis. Mario and Sonic and the Olympics. This is like Wii Sports on steroids. Its the best workout I've ever had. Better than a session with a personal trainer. And it is so so so much fun. There are many other games that require lots of physical movement. Plus if you push the couch back and just stand for nonactive games you'll still burn more calories. And with video games you tense up a lot more when you're standing which burns more calories. I totally totally recommend Wii. |

| Young Calorie Counters | College Students -- Do you add studying/school to activity log? | Jan 11 2008 06:05 (UTC) |

| Well... you aren't moving other than writing maybe. But you are using your brain. I wouldn't think it burned any more calories than normal. A lot of activities in the activity browser are like a flat rate - they are all the same or close to the same. And I think they are already counted in the daily burn total. | |||
| Young Calorie Counters | If i have a junk food BINGE one day, will i gain weight? | Jan 11 2008 05:52 (UTC) |

Yeah all the crap in junk food (hence the name junk) is awful for you and has other effects on you. But mainly, you'd have to eat that extra 3500. And that'll take like a week to make up for. Say if you are cutting back 500 calories a day - so you'll loose a pound a week. You just ruined that week. But don't loose the diet or you'll ruin the next week or even gain weight. Think about how discouraging this is before you start in on the chocolate (my weakness as well.) I have to give myself a small daily dose of chocolate to keep from binging. And if you crave burgers, make yourself a homemade one which is like 350 calories and is twice the size of the stupid 700 calorie fast food version. |

| Weight Loss | 1300 Calories and not being hungry... is this OK? | Jan 11 2008 05:46 (UTC) |
|
First of all, you could really hurt yourself if you eat less that 1500. And thats just if you're sitting on the couch all day. You need to use the tools CC provides like the burn estimate and all the articles to figure out how much you should be eating. If you keep eating so little calories your body will start eating itself, you won't be able to gain muscle, and you'll get sick. Just up the calories a bit and you'll be great. |

I agree with michelle_bachelor. I'm starting new again (I lost 20 pounds two years ago but gained it back mostly with the freshmen 15). I've been good at my diet for a week now and I lost two pounds and this morning on the scale they were back. But what I learned last time was that it takes a few weeks to start loosing and its always slower than what it should be. For breakfast I drink a low-carb slimfast. Its only 4 carbs and it has 20g of protein (190 calories). It actually tastes edible. Then I put a piece of fruit in my purse. But I've always been a snacker. So the fruit gets me to lunch.

| Weight Loss | 1200 Calories a day, is it enough? | Jan 09 2008 22:35 (UTC) |

Jaylynn, I would guess you're one of the exceptions to the 1200 rule. Being older and so petite it doesn't surprise me that that works for you. But if you're only looking to loose 5 pounds I think its weird you are cutting down calories so much. Is it really that much? I can't tell. You could take a few months to loose those 5 pounds and you'll keep it off longer than quickly loosing it.
gcbragg, I don't understand how you can get enough carbs from just veggies. But it just shows how different different bodies types are. I can't eat more than a few ounces of meat daily. It makes me sick. And I can't live off veggies. But obviously you can and you seem to like that. I'm personally glad I'm not like that.

I only have extra weight around my thighs and tummy. That where I put it on and I'm sure thats where it'll come off. I'm not worried about something like what you said.
People who are around my weight and height? What size are you? I'm not sure if I'll be a size 9 or 7. |

First of all, I don't believe in evolution. Second, watch your tone. You are coming off as rude. I know what I'm talking about. I get sick if I try to get all my carbs from vegetables. Without whole grains I start getting nausea. Thats just how my body is. If you can go without them, good for you. I wouldn't want to do that. I like my bread and oatmeal and pasta. |

| I know I can go about two weeks with cutting out carbs but then it starts to effect my body. You need carbs, they are really important. Add in two or three servings of whole wheat and whole grain. It'll keep you going in the long run. | |||
