You're not 'raiding the fridge' you're having a piece of toast..... Do you go to drama school or something?

Lighten up! No need to attack we are suppose to be here to support each other not to be so critical.

As for the eating habits, too much excess of anything is bad for you. A good example is WATER. Everyone knows that is a daily requirement, we need it to survive. But drink way too much of it can make you very ill, potentially even fatal. (grant you this is under the term excessively too much). But with food just keep counting the calories ;)

3.)  The hardest part of losing weight is redefining yourself as "not fat".  It changes the way people treat you.  I forces you to shop places you never have before.  Old stereotypes are replaced by new ones.  It is a very odd and awkward transition.

AMEN to that. I had no idea it was going to be so hard...for me it came to a point where my coworkers were going to take my clothes from me so I would go buy some that fit.. that being the outward problem. self esteem being the hardest to over come...I look in the mirror and I don't see the weight loss I went from almost a size 18 to size 10-12.  I'm not done, but honestly I feel just as heavy and more uncomfortable with every roll and bulge than I did 50+ Lbs. ago.

I also completely agree with the splurge day.  We need it to stay the course. Dieting is NOT a temporary thing it is a lifestyle change.

Full name: Stephanie Greenside
Age: 33
Hometown: Virginia Beach
How much weight lost (ok to estimate): 50lbs+ and still going.

Your surprising tip(s):
Eating the right amount of calories consistantly. I was suprised that some  days I would have  to actually look for small snacks because I hadn't eaten enough that day. I found that Roller coaster eating (not enough one day and too much another) leaves the body doing exactly what it does on a real Roller coaster...not knowing what to do with the food it has...keep it or give it up. And of course your body doesn't react instantly to the amount of food you consume; so if you didn't eat enough the day before, now your body is in starvation mode.  The following day you eat too much your body wants to keep it because of that previous day. Maintaining the calories that is right for you to lose weight consistantly and your body doesn't go into starvation mode and the weight comes off.

One other thing is that the occasional splurge is MANDITORY. Diet is NOT a temporary thing it is altering your way of life, which is why so many people unfortunately gain their weight back. They stop whatever system or routine they were on to lose the weight..and revert back to old habits. The Splurge gives just a little taste of the forbidden fruit that way your not left feeling deprived and tempted to give up. A diet is not a jail sentence. It is just smarter choices and awareness of what we are doing and putting into our body. Oh, how I love Girl Scout Samoa cookies, my splurge 3 cookies (225 calories and we won't talk about the fat grams) instead of 1/2 a box (900 calories and you REALLY don't want to know the fat grams!!!) I would have devoured a year ago;  but I won't say no to a craving.  I will just be smart about it watch the portion and adjust my calories and meals to compliment it instead. 50lbs lost and I'm not done yet.

ahhh just a super quick note...I have decided that I eat more when I don't sleep. This happens on Saturdays and boy did I eat the wrong stuff. HOWEVER I exercised the next day (on the wii) but exercise non the less...then a small set back, my back went out on me and of course the migraine ensued shortly there after...soooo it will be interesting to see what the scales say today...

Hi, my name is Stephanie I hope it isn't too late to join in on the fun. This is exactly the amount I want to lose and when I want to do it by!

SW: 220 (2008)

CW: 176

GW: 150

Lowest weight: 168 (feb '09)

Calorie intake range: 1200-1300ish

I am 33, 5'6 with 3 kids. I work the overnight shift as a Medical Secretary in the ER, as well as a Portrait Artist ( so everything I do is sit down) I think I can safely say I am very sedentary even with 3 kids! exercise is a dirty word, though I try I know deep down I don't try hard enough in that department.

I lost my way after getting sick for a while and lost my motivation. I recently gained 10 pounds and with that my motivation is back! I refuse to gain another pound!! I have 150 in my sight and I am hoping with a little push and motivation it will happen this time.

It is definately an eye-opener...calories come in all shapes and sizes...that hersheys kiss has about as many calories as 1 whole roma tomato..I bet you would count that if it was in your salad..right?  Log it all! :)   I keep a piece of paper with me and I write down what I eat and how much..I don't log everyday like I would like..but at least I know where my calories are still... Good luck and no worries... it's a good obsession!  ;)

hey everyone...sorry for not being chatty... I finally finished the birdhouse project...woohoo!!! I literally finished it 10 minutes before having to turn it in...the charity auction is tonight, but the tickets to get in the door alone is 100$...EVEN if your a contributor...so needless to say I won't be able to see how my picture does...that is a little dissapointing...but by the reaction of my coworkers I think it will go over ok...If you would like to see the finished product I put it in my gallery...   so now that the time crunch is over I can turn my attention back to other things :)

lovemym_m that is truely inspiring to have lost so much.

It really boggles my mind at how hard it is to lose weight and yet so insanily EASY it is to slip and start putting it back on...However...I love going to the closet and putting clothes on and having to take them off NOT because they are too tight, but because they are TOO BIG...LOVE IT...(well except that my clothes selection is getting REALLY small...) almost time to go shopping..almost.

My husband is also losing with me. too..he started at 240 and is down to 220...

He has health issues I have been trying forever to get him to lose...he saw a picture of himself at sliding rock and it finally got through to him...he REALLY needed to lose.  I think that is part of my success..we are able to do it together and kinda like this challenge...we play the scale game...and keep each other motivated.

Which is also why I like this group...I honestly don't think I would be doing so well if it wasn't for everyone here and the challenge to keep me on track...and I want to thank everyone for that...

congrats on the weight loss momof2funykids and  ducklingerthank !!! I have another 10 pounds to get past before I hit that mark of lowest I have been in forever..but I will get there Wink.

sorry I haven't gotten back to post this week...Trevor (my son) got the stomach flu again...I guess I am going to have to bomb the house with lysol or something...and our dog died...she was 17years old so it wasn't a big suprise, but it still was an extremely sad couple of days. Lastly I have a project for a charity event due in 1 1/2 weeks that I am struggling to finish... (full of excuses today sorry)

On  positive note...I ran/walked on incline for 2 miles yesterday and NO asthma attack...I am so excited!!   I think I will still check that book out NROLFW (New rules of lifting for women) thanks v_avila

Is anybody actively and successfully working out with their diet plans?? And if so what is your routine?? And one last question..Is it helping with your efforts?

Sorry for the pile of questions...Attempting to work out, however it triggers my asthma ...wondering if there was a better way out there...and if so is it worth the persistence???

Thank you for all of your responses...

I was given a high dose to control a severe asthma attack and bronchitis. They orginially had me on it at the hospital I was so sick I couldn't eat and barely drink anything for 4 days, yet I gained 6 lbs by the time I left...I lived off of chicken broth for several days after that... and then they put me down to preventative dosing and still gained a bunch of weight...

this time I just didn't fill the prescription...and took everything else.. I made it through...and finally feeling better Smile

Prednisone is a steroid used to treat certain types of inflamation...commonly used to treat Asthama attacks in conjuction with albuterol, xopenex, advair (low dose steroid), and other types of meds.

I swear if I gain weight from eating a salad I am going to cry!!!! I thought I was doing so well...I had a cup of coffee with creamer for breakfast, a veggie sub for lunch and a salad for dinner....till I went to register the salad in the food log...894 calories!!! Just the salad...not even the dressing (310 calories) wholie molie

It was the best salad I have ever put in my mouth...but the calorie tag that goes with it was a little shocking.

OOOOOOOOhhhh Sushi sounds SO good right now...pthhhh! Tongue out  Depends on the roll by the way, calorie wise...All that rice in the rolls adds up quick especially if it is tempura (lightly fried), but if you like sashimi (Just the beautiful raw fish alone) then you should have plenty of room to enjoy.   So...got room for one more person? Laughing

Sounds like the stomach virus and cold season is in full swing...I am over the stomach virus...but now I caught my sons cold..Oh well... Hope everyone feels better soon...

10/17:  I'm slipping a little about logging my food...but I have a good idea on portion size now...I am glad to see my procrastination hasn't effected the scales...

10/24: sorry a little late..First chance I had to sit at a computer... I didn't want to weigh in this week anyway...I didn't realize how much your TOTM impacts the scales...and the cravings!!! I have been so bad! New week back on track!!! (Kicking self in butt!!)

10/31: Happy halloween everyone!  10 pounds to go woohoo...on short term goal anyhow....we won't talk about long term ;)  BIG GOAL STAY AWAY FROM KIDS CANDY!!!

11/07:  Sorry late..working a big art project..and stupid goes and breaks/sprains her wrist with tendon involvement...so typing slow...luckily for me it was my left wrist.

11/14: time is going by so fast...I sure wish the scales would too :(

11/21:Happy birthday to me....It snowed today...earliest snow I think and first time it ever snowed on b-day..nice treat.  Scale slowly still going down..I am very happy that it went down...it is that TOTM and even with bloat it was a pound loss...woohoo! Now if I could only control that increased hunger and cravings that come with it...grrr.

not exactly sure how often you go to geneva, but if not often I can only imagine site seeing is in there somewhere and that is ALOT of walking....Just a thought....

I went to Cabo San Lucas a while back ate out everynight at 5 star restraunts drank and was having fun...But we walked everywhere, went scuba diving, horseback riding and walked the beach every sunrise and sunset...not to mention the shopping (LOTS of walking) So regardless of all the rich food I ate I still came back and lost a little weight ( It's a shame that I gained it back...but still)

I know our sleep habits do have an effect on the weight we carry, I try very hard to jump in bed as soon as I get home and fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow....YEAH I am not very successful at it...

An Idea for you for exercise @ your chair... Descreetly...take a little ball, with a little give to it...I use my kids backyard disney ball ;}  Anyway there are three really good tricks with it for your legs

1: between your knees and squeeze

2: under your feet and push down

3: between your ankles and lift up and hold...

Noone will notice because they are all done "under" your desk...And they use your strength instead of rapid repitition so your not bouncing (No pun intended) up and down.

Well I just got up...so this is my morning. :)  I had to force myself to bed today...which I don't normally have to, my mistake of a cup of coffee I was peer pressured into.

Sleep is always a problem...Too much to do and take care of (3 kids) , however staying up at night is generally not  problem...I work in a very busy ER. I wouldn't want to trade where I work and the time I work that much I very much enjoy.

However not too many people understand (at least my husband still doesn't even after all these years) how flipped around your day and nights are... Prime example: I went to bed at 10 AM and got up at 3:30 pm, Hubby fussed saying I was sleeping the day away...I thought that was the idea? lol

I am so glad I came across this thread! My co-workers think I am a little looney but worth it!  That being said I thought I would offer my moment for everyones enjoyment :)

I decided to take my kids to the pool with a friend from work...It was spur of the moment and not very well thought out. My youngest was only 9 months at the time and was her first trip into the pool. I am a seasoned mom of 3 I should have seen this coming....but NOPE. I put her in the water and all was fine for a short while...till I noticed these gelatenous globs floating around us, you would think I would have figured it out at that point but I didn't. We stayed in the water close to an hour...She had enough of the water time to go in...As I brought her out of the water the diaper that had bravely attempted to suck up all the pool water burst and goo went everywhere. I am still impressed with how much water it held! But Swimpers (Pool Diapers) are now part of a requirement in my gym bag.

Sadly on that note and my 2nd most embarrasing moment was the reverse of that...a year later I put her in the swimpers and she decided she didn't want to go into the pool so I took her to the child watch area.  I don't think I was gone more than 15 minutes till a volunteer tracked me down. Apparently swimpers though great for in the water...are NOT good out of the water and the poor thing had gone straight through it, drenching her clothes, the careworker, the floor and a few unfortunate toys that got in the way. I just can't win!!
