thanks for the input....maybe it is called kettlebells, I'm not sure. I saw something on TV about it and then at my local MC Sports the program is on sale and I didn't want to buy it without hearing from others first. Thanks!

clairelanie, I just got a little wiser and quit buying baby food in jars! :) my daughter eats table food and so I'm buying cans of green beans and cutting them myself rather than the pre-cut Gerber green beans. There's really no difference. And I think I just need to get in the habit of cooking seperately a big skillit of veggies that I can add to whatever I've cooked in the more simple form for my husband. He really is so flexible but I cannot force him to eat food he doesn't like, and he has tried things, but he just has more "simple" tastebuds. :) thanks for the advice!

thank you thank you! it is those types of recepies that I need! I feel like I can't eat chicken and veggies one more night! :) I do actually shop mostly on the perimeter of the store, and I think we are just trying to adjust to the increase in our grocery bill now that our daughter is here and eating more than just formula. (she's off that now of course) anyway.....I'm determined to cut this bill down! I think we are going to have a breakfast dinner once a week, a soup dinner once a week, and things like this......we'll see though.

thanks for the thoughts......I appreciate it.

We don't eat out. We probably go out to eat on our "date" about once every three or four months. Seriously. I think it sees that we just go through our food somewhat quickly (not from overeating) and we buy name brand foods which on some things I know is unecessary. I do think that what will help most is have very specific meal plans, for all the meals for each person. Sometimes with a 17 month old, job, house, family, life just gets busy. But I know we can do it! Here's to saving money AND eating healthy! :)

Sargento (sp?) makes a light string cheese that is only 50 calories a stick! I love it and it makes for a great snack! Although they are a little expensive. For 24 I pay 7.28!! Totally worth it though.
Weight Loss Anyone else completely afraid of the scale??? Jan 09 2007

before I tell you what I think you should do, maybe you'd rather know that I know EXACTLY how you feel! You're not alone! For probably six or seven years I didn't weigh myself. Even in college when I was fit, and then forget it when I started to gain weight, there was no way I wanted to know!

I went to the doctor in 2002 and I turned around and made the nurse not tell me! I just had a baby in April 2006 and all during the preganancy I never looked at how much I weighed, and because my weight wasn't an overall concern my doctor didn't talk about it with me.

It was only after this past August that I finally decided that the power was in the numbers. That if I knew, I'd have a better idea of where I was at, and where I wanted to go with my weight. Clairelanie is right, the tape measure is a great tool, but I think it should be used with a scale too.

Here's what I know now, having been afraid of the scale, and deciding to step on it......I wish I would have stepped on it sooner.  And before I stepped on it I thought it would say 225....instead it said 240! But I went with knowing I had started to lose weight and that I would keep it up!, and hopefully you'll feel the same way if you decide to step on the scale!

My scale now says 213 and it is such a great reward to see the scale go down! I never thought it would be fun to weigh myself!!!!!

holy cow! So many new entries in such a short amount of time! I feel so behind! I'm here ladies! Ok, my goals are to be at 215 by the 31st (I"m 218 right now) so that I can know that I've accomplished a 25 pound loss in 3 months! I will feel great but I'm ok if I get as close as I can too. I know, not an ab goal for the week, mine is more general. But in addition, I am committed to getting back to a consistant 3-5 days of walking in the a.m. no more of this 1-2 days a week crap! Oh, and as of today I broke through my first plataue! I'd been stuck at 220 for almost two and a half weeks and today 218!

Welcome all you new moms...feel free to add me as a friend, I'll do the same! :)

wow! what a ton of great posts! I wasn't around much yesterday because my daughter and I ran a bunch of errands! Thankfully she really likes to go out and about, I think its because I've been doing that with her from the very beginning.
I was thinking back the other day about how and why (other than the very obvious reasons) I began on this journey. It was about 8 weeks or so, maybe a little more than that, after our daughter was born that my C-Section incision was still giving me some trouble. My doctor had looked at it and said it was doing fine, but it was inside that it was still hurting. She said those types of paines can last up to a year becase she cut through the fascia (sp?) anyway, about 6 weeks before Paige was born my mom had a full hys-ta-rec-ta-me (sorry, I know I spelled that wrong!) and she was not having the same discomfort I was. My husband gently suggested it was becase she was walking. He then said that if I wanted to get up early in the mornings he would always take care of Paige so that I can walk. Paige wakes up at 6 like clockwork and he feeds her and she goes back to sleep until 8-10 a.m. and so I use that time to work out. It was when I began doing that, all for the sake of not hurting anymore that I thought it was a waste of my time to walk and not at least eat healthy and thus here I am. Boy, that was quite the long response as to when I workout! lol, sorry for the novel!
Congrats Benjmom on the weightloss! That must have felt amazing to step on the scale and see that! And KJ, don't be afraid to step on the scale. I was afraid I think for the last ten years, seriously, and now that I finally weigh myself after other week or so, it has really helped. Don't be afraid, you are in charge, not the scale! :)

I have a great kid moment....last night my husband was holding our daughter and for the first time she laughed! She's always smiled and gotten excited and will bounce around, but this was an all out laugh! She then kept laughing as my husband continued to entertain her! It was so precious! I of course cried and I'm sure all you other moms can relate! What about the rest of you? Funny kid moments? (hope its ok to step away from weightloss for a moment)

my daughter is Paige Elizabeth....Paige was a name my husband picked out and we both thought it was a happy sounding name that would be adorable, and Elizabeth was my middle name before I got married. My grandmother and my mother kept their maiden names as their middle names once they got married and I really wanted to do the same. Plus I knew that Elizabeth would be much easier to pass on to my daughter than my maiden name! Welcome to all you new additions! As christianrock_chick said, feel free to add me to your friend list and I will do the same with you!

cecily, I am so sorry about how you feel. I truly understand. I had my daugher in April, (six months ago today!) and within the first two weeks she was born I spent every moment almost trying to figure out how to change my schedule to I wouldn't have to leave her. I thought I might actually die if I had to leave her. My mom still works part time as a college advisor and  she agreed to watch her for two days a week but at the time I worked four and didn't know what I would do for the  other two days. I just couldn't send her to someone I didn't love myself! I know it had a lot to do with all the crazy hormones. And after I got my schedule changed I was much happier. I work at a small office for advocacy for abused and neglected children, and I was able to go down to two days a week. So I cut our income, actually our savings, in half. But I feel very rich in my time with my daugher. I truly wish that there was something I could do to offer you a way of more time with your little honey. But as sinderella said, it is such a blessing that your mom watches them for you! In the end, it will make such a difference. You are a great mom, and no less of a loving mom because you are at work. I believe that you are providing for them in a wonderful way by financially providing for their future! I know this is how I feel about the days that I go to work....I am still taking care of my child, even if they aren't in my arms while I'm doing it. Hope that thought helps...

_chick....age is just a number and you are only as old as you feel! I may still be 27, but I know I am going to continue to tell myself that as those candles keep adding up! With your kids I'm sure you keep very busy! And I'm sure you do just fine with your husband working those long days, but it is nice to have them around! I have to be careful though that I don't let myself only miss my husband when he's at work just becase I could use the help around the house, but rather I miss my husband becase he's my best friend! Its funny how fast your thinking can change like that though when you add kids into the mix! (I posted a comment in your journal and  I must not be fully awake yet becase after I posted it I noticed several mistakes...just ignor them! :)  )

hi new moms! I too had a baby this past year, she will be six months old tomorrow! How fast that has gone by! This is my first baby. Prior to getting pregnant, I had weight to lose, and although most women try to get fit before getting pregnant for all the right reasons, I just couldn't bring myself to do that. I know it sounds crazy. But I knew how hard it would be to lose the weight, and I didn't want to do it twice. Once before the baby, and then again after the baby. So here I am, 5'8, 27, and 224. I've lost 16 pounds since July 31st, and feeling pretty good about it. I would love to be in touch with you other new moms...ok if I add you all as friends?  I actually didn't gain very much weight during my pregnancy becase the first three months I was so sick that I lost 20 pounds. My doctor kept a close watch and everything was ok, but I'm sure you can all relate how icky those first few months are. So thankfully, I'm not dealing with pregnancy weight, just the weight I've always had. I'm just trying to lose it with my new role as a mom and also trying to figure out how my body works again after having had a baby. I'm so glad this thread got started! :)
Weight Loss 1/3 of the way!!!! Oct 02 2006
13:35 (UTC)
wow, again very impressive. I know that sometimes when people begin a weightloss they lose quickly in the beginning and lose a large amount. For some reason I don't feel like that's happened to me. (15 pounds in two months) but it sounds like that's what you've been able to do! That's so great! My calorie intake is around the same as yours, probably 1400-1600. The only (and I mean only ever) thing I drink is water, and I exercise 3-5 times a week. But I just keep telling myself everybody will lose weight at a different pace. Thanks for the info!

wow! I am really impressed! You and I have very similar numbers (starting weight and goal weight) I started at 240 and am now at 225, but I am second guessing myself if my progress is too slow....how long did it take you to do this? I started July 31st.

thanks for the advice guys....I suppose clairelaine you're right, maybe I should just look for larger progress and forget the small changes. But as we all know those small changes are major mental boosters! Marjael, as sad as this sounds, I thought about putting a dot on my skin with a marker, one that would not be seen once I was dressed, to help be my guide! Oh the insanity! :) I'll just wait a little while longer to chart my measurements for real. But just like with the scale, I had to take the tape measure out for a peek!

thanks for the advice, it really helps! I really don't know the best
way to log what I do during the day....everyday is a little different
other than the fact that I start out the a.m. walking 2 miles. I work
part time sitting most of the day two days a week, and then the other
three am at home with my four month old daughter...then on the weekends
we are on the go! I want to log my activities, but I am so afraid that
I will assume I am burning more than I actually am and then accidently
eat too many calories and not have any negative for the day! Ahhh, so
many details! :)

CC told me that based on my current height and weight and activity, that 1750 is what I should be doing...obviously adjusting this as I lose weight. But 1750 seems like a lot and I feel better at around 1600 for now. I just didn't know how important it was to reach the fat intake as well. I know my body needs a certain amount and I didn't know if coming in 10-20 grams under is bad....thanks for responding! :)

elin thank you so much for your advice, that was really helpful....I think I have an idea of what my numbers should look like, I think sometimes I struggle knowning what to eat to reach those numbers.....without having to feel too deprived so as to prevent binging and not sticking with it! I appreciate your information greatly! :)

kitkat~ the ability to lose weight lies within you and this is a fact since you have done it once before and multiple times after. Don't look at the weight that was regained, look at the fact that you lost weight that was hard to lose and you did it! I too feel what you feel but I don't have the positive history you have...I have never lost weight in a large amount....ever. So unlike me, you don't have the fear that you might not ever be able to do it, because you already have! I just look ahead, look to the Lord, and know that somewhere in me is the strenght to do what you have already done! Chin up....just tell yourself you're going to do what you've already done and this will be the last time you have to do it! :)

thanks kiwi~ i think because i'm just starting out that I thought once you lost weight, according to the scale, that it would never come back. I am keeping the faith that I do know I'm on the right track. This a.m. I got up just the same and walked my two miles and had a healthy breakfast and have no intentions of doing otherwise. Thank you so much....this encouragement is very valuable to me. And yes, my clothes do fit better, so I am going to start measuring.

thank you stats....i appreciate you taking the time to advise me.
Before I started this whole process, I told myself that the biggest
fear I had in the whole thing, was that I would give it 110% and know
that there was nothing I could have done differently, and that I would
still fail. I think that after weighing myself tonight that was the
fear that I was feeling. But you're right, I'm going to push through
this and there will come a day, hopefully sooner than later, where
those same four pounds will really be gone, no matter what time a day I
weigh myself.
