Motivation Where are the 40 somethings? May 02 2007
16:26 (UTC)
Well, I fall into this category as well since I am 44. I can't believe how quickly the years have flown - I certainly don't feel middle-aged.

My story - I've been heavy all my life - moved to Colorado (where it's a much healthier lifestyle) and lost about 70 lbs. Unfortunately I've gained a few back (and I wasn't anywhere close to being at my goal weight). So here I am again trying to get into the right mindset. My problem is that I try to control my food by not eating (It's amazing how little food I do eat) and when I diet now my main emphasis is to get at least 1200 good calories in. I still struggle with this (not sure why it's so hard to commit to eating), but as has been said many times, it's a lifestyle change not a diet.
Weight Loss Why do doctors do this? Feb 28 2007

I think that you need to be careful on blaming the doctor, especially if what he "said" is what you are hearing from you MIL. It's quite possible that what he said and what she heard are 2 different things.

WW is a good program if you follow it. Any change she makes should be better than staying her current course.

I've discovered the only way to get through Girl Scout Cookie season is by not buying! Last year I bought several boxes of cookies from my niece and when they came in, I told my sister-in-law to keep them (I think I did bring home 1 box though). This year I just said "No" to my friends when they asked - haven't heard from my niece yet, she is hard to say "no" too, but I'll use the same trick as last year (only buy fewer) - give them to my brother's family.

I'm participating, but I don't think I should get any points for the week. I actually lost quite a bit of weight in the last week (8 lbs) (all of which I put on during the Christmas break), but it happened more because I've had very little to eat over the past week (which I KNOW is not good).

I've eaten way under my calorie limit (actually around 600 calories or less a day) and most days didn't drink nearly enough water (aiming for 104 oz per day), I think I only hit that on 1 day.

I can't seem to get an appetite, nothing appeals. I've had this problem before and am wondering if I'm the only one who does? The thought of someone who weighs as much as I do having to force myself to eat seems a bit ridiculous (and I'm sure that anyone who hasn't battled weigh issues before wouldn't believe it) ... Ugh...

Any input/feedback/suggestions would be most welcome!

I'm still in and WILL do better this week....

Ok, here goes -

Kathy - Joined Aug, 2006 - Currently have 105 lobs to lose to get to a "goal" weight. I think my 1st real goal weight will be at 50 lbs and then I'll take it from there.

Goals:

1) Track my food intake 2) Eat 1300 calories per day (5-6 small meals) 3) Some exercise every day with 3 of them at the gym (1 hr each on elliptical) 4) Drink 96oz of water per day

DOW: Goal Setting

As mentioned by refroc and 123jake - keep the scales going in the downward direction

Obstacles:

Me... I'm my only obstacle... I believe that I can do this.

I'm trying to lose another size by Christmas, so I'm definitely still here :-)
Am planning on heading home (out of state) to stay with my brother and his family for Thanksgiving (and get together with the rest of the family too) and am going to try and eat well while staying with them - perhaps even get some excercising in as well.  They are a good influence (runners) and I'm hoping that will help me be good.

Weight Loss Spagetti Squash, Oct 30 2006
18:41 (UTC)
I love spaghetti squash!! I cook it in the microwarve.

Cut it in half length wise and scoop out the insides. Take a glass tray and fill with water, place squash in pan (flat) and cover with saran.

Cook in mico until tender (5ish minutes - till you can prick skin with fork).

Remove from tray and use a fork to pull out insides. Cover "spagetti" with spaghetti sauce or butter/parmesean cheese. Umm, umm good.

Really bad week, +2 (255)... I'll be in Vegas next week, and I **may** not be able to get an internet connection to post results - I will be bringing my workout clothes and expect that I'll be able to weigh at the gym. If you don't hear from me, please don't assume I'm not playing, I'll just post my info all in the next week.

Go team (s)!!!! :-)

Have a favor to ask of anyone on the team.  I created a Fabulous_4_ever friends group so that only members can read certain journal entries.

I also created an empty group called personal so that I could write journal entries that are ... duh...  personal (sometimes just writing something down is a good thing even if no on eis going to read it). :-)

Could you check out my journal and let me know if you read anything that says it's personal.  I didn't actually write anything personal, just a comment that I was going to ask the team if they could see the entiry.

Thanks in advance,

Kathy
