| Weight Loss | 3-Month Slump ...?? | Nov 10 2006 12:38 (UTC) |

| I've gone through the same frustration/boredom with slow weight loss - most of the weight I lost before starting C_C was from excercise and it was only about a pound a week. Having as much to lose as I do - that was seriously slow and I had to fight getting too frustrated. After C-c, with exercise merged with food monitoring it started coming off faster - but even that has slowed down periodically. What I am exploring lately is kind of a cycling calorie intake. I stay within my alotted calories but somedays I'm maxing them, other days staying close to the low end. It seems to be working, but it may be too early to tell whether it will be truely effective in the long term. One thing though - I don't necessarily eat 'diet' food. I try to make healthier choices, but if I want or desire something 'not so healthy', I will eat in moderation(that includes ice cream, candy, potato chips, etc...). I just make sure it's not all the time and that it fits within my daily calories.
I know this has gotten kind of rambling - hope you can glean something of use from it:) |

| I know what you mean pamt1998 - I've lost about 60 lbs and I've been waiting for someone at work to notice. Nothing yet. I have purposely avoided saying anything because I want someone else to honestly notice and not just agree or give lip service because I've told them. And the wait is frustrating. I do have to be honest here though - I have a lot to lose and even after 60 lbs I still have a hard time seeing anything in the mirror.
Oh, and on your previous post about the child calling you fat and the mother not responding - that is something that tics me too. And believe me, I've been on the receiving end more then a few times. I can understand the child's insensitive response, kid's rarely think before speaking. But the mother should have let the child know that that was unacceptable and rude - if it were my child making such unthinking comments I would be as embarrassed or uncomfortable as I know the one on the receiving end is. It comes down to parents teaching their children appropriate behaviour - and sometimes there are people who shouldn't have children because they are lacking in the basics of courtesy themselves. |

| Found it! That was a lot of reading, too! http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/article /nutrition.html Here you go: The key to success appears to be the sustainability of your approach to dieting. For example, tracking calories, avoiding certain foods, and exercising are all commonly used methods to lose weight. |

| Hey, pamt! You're right - I've noticed it's awfully quiet too. As a matter of fact, it seems awfully quiet across the entire board. Guess folks are all, just too busy to drop a post. Hope all is well with you and everyone else. | |||

| My submission for week 7 part 8 - Game Plan:
For me, like so many others, the holidays all pose a tasty problem - yummy, sweet treats and lots of fancy meals. I love food, all kinds of food, and when I decided to seriously lose weight I knew temptation would be an issue. My 'game plan', as it were, has always been eat what I want, deny myself nothing, but to count every calorie. I look at the calories in the item, then weigh that against the desire. Is it something I can do without today? If it is, then I say to myself, 'No, not today- Maybe tomorrow.' This way I'm not denying myself anything - just putting it off until another, more appropriate time - tomorrow(sometimes tomorrow is a very long time away). So far this way of looking at the treats(and second helpings) has worked for me and I've found I don't miss those things I didn't have today because there is always tomorrow. |

| Welcome nanajo! I don't think you have to worry about derailing things - just keep the attitude you're showing in your post and that will keep you on track.
I'd like to offer some advice on the calf issue - if you don't mind. I've found stretching on a regular basis will virtually eliminate the sore calves and shins from walking. Stretch often, especially your calves(and legs in general) - that's what I did and do now and haven't had any problems in a long time. Now my only problem area is my feet! Good-luck! And keep on keepin' on! |

| I'm not sure if this will help all that much, but try searching in the Food browser for Chinese. It does give a list of restaurant and prepared entrees from various manufacturers. If nothing there helps just try browsing using a specific selection(ie. Egg foo yung, Sweet and sour, etc...) - I'm not sure what has been added. Sorry couldn't be of more help.
P.s. Some restaurants have web pages that give nutrional info - you might be able to find similar items there. |

| I've found a bit(1/4 cup) of trail mix is a decent between meal snack that helps me feel full for a while. Don't eat too much - high in fat(even if it is some of the good fats). Heck, a half sandwich isn't so bad either(mmm, peanut butter and jam). At work I sometimes have a plain instant oatmeal with fat free yogurt. | |||

| Thanks ix, I'll have to remember to store any pumpkins I get in as you say "a cool dark place". I've always found if I wait too long I get lousy to no choice of pumpkins. The kids love carving them, or atleast telling me how to carve them:) | |||

| Eeeww, pumpkin guts!
Can someone answer a simple question? Why, oh, why are pumpkins available so early? If you carve them now they turn into mushy pumpkins - kinda like those wrinkled old apple core dolls - only mushier and they collapse on themselves....eeeek .... after all that work carving! And if you don't carve them, they get soft and mushy on the bottom where they touch the ground! |

| Part 7 week 6 - Walking the walk (here's my motivational statement - sorry it's so long): I have been heavy most of my life; my weight steadily increasing from my early teens to January of this year when I reached a whopping 405 lbs. I have never suffered from any serious health effects, although I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. Physical reality is another story. I've been sluggish, unable to get around as easy as I should and I could see this all just getting worst. Can you understand how embarrassing, how humiliating it can be when you can't bend over and tie your shoes, or if you have to put your seat back as far as it will go - just so you can cram yourself behind a steering wheel or the fear of never knowing if that chair will hold your weight? I've had the support of family. I've made the regular visits to a dietician. I've lost and I've gained it back, over and over. Nothing seemed to work for very long. I've heard it said many times - 'Only those ready to lose weight, will seriously lose weight'. I thought I was ready many times, but reaching 405 lbs proves I wasn't. When my wife suggested a membership at the local YMCA, I was apprehensive and a little excited. I so much wanted this to be the time it all clicked. I have 3 wonderful children whom I want to see grow up. I have a wife who genuinely loves me and wants me around into our old ages. I made a commitment that cold day in January when we all walked into the Y for the first time, a commitment to physically push myself to lose weight. Exercise was the first step. There were days I had a hard time convincing myself to go, but my family was depending on me so I pushed on 2 days a week, then 3, now it's averaging 5 days a week. I began to lose weight - not as fast as I would have liked, but I was losing. Then one day while eating my typical breakfast of Tim Horton's coffee(xxl), bagel with cream cheese, and maple pecan dainish, I started wondering - how many calories are in this stuff? So I Googled, Tim Horton's maple pecan danish, and up came a listing from a site called Calorie-count (and the shocking realization that at 460 calories and 25 grams of fat - maybe a maple pecan danish wasn't such a good breakfast food). I began to explore the site and realized I had found the missing link to my weightloss journey - a way to a healthier lifestyle in the form of monitoring and logging my food. Exercise is all well and good, but if you sabotage all that hard work with your fork, sooner or later you will quit. My eating still isn't perfect, but it's better and thanks to C_c I have a visual way to control my eating and make healthier choices. Exercise and Calorie-count, the not so secret, secrets to my success. I'm fitting better behind the wheel, my sleep apnea has improved and I'm down 55 pounds. Just 150 pounds to go and a longer, healthier life on the horizon! |

| Just came face to face with reason why member of 100+ club is always a member of the 100+ club, whether losing or lost. Example. That's right, example! Today while at the YMCA I ran into someone who is a member of the 100+ club and didn't even know it. While getting changed after my workout, another fellow, whom I've never truely spoken to, struck up a conversation with me. Simple chit chat. I think because my size is obvious he thought to break the ice by asking how often I workout and why I was working out - ie. lose weight(obvious) or get into shape(safe answer). When I told him both, but mostly to lose weight, he revealed that the reason he had asked was because he had lost 150 pounds and was always curious about how others went about trying to lose as much weight themselves. He showed me an old picture of himself - he definitely was a bigger man! I found this incident so inspiring. I've read from others in the forums, but this was the first time I've met someone who has accomplished what I want to accomplish - and his method, although not exact, is very similar to what I'm trying. His story is so much similar to others who have posted. So there you have it(in a somewhat rambling post). Example. That is what past and present 100+ members need and provide. | |||
