I dont use the activity logs here. I set my activity level as "moderate" (I have a fairly physical job), and then I log any extra exercise I do thats out of the ordinary. I find this method gives me the best results, as far as how many calories I should be eating to lose weight. |

I mentally add them up all day so that I dont overeat, and then log them when I get home late at night. When I first started, I had to write everything down immediately. |

There are people on this site who can be alarmist sometimes. The term "starvation mode" gets tossed around on this site a lot. However, it's better to be worried excessively than to let unhealthy ideas fester in someone's head. They do it out of concern, not out of malice or jealousy. If you are eating a healthy amount, and not trying to slim down to waif-size (and only you can know if that's the case), then more power to you. of course, anyone reading this who IS severely restricting their eating, I of course suggest seeking treatment. if you are at a good/healthy weight, the only thing you can really do is exercise- try to tone up your abs with crunches and such, if that is where the pudge seems to be located. there's no such thing as "spot" weightloss, but you CAN target muscle groups in your workouts.

runhaleyrun- no disrespect to the above poster, but i dont think it's true that it's "never good to see rib or pelvic bones". i've never had any type of eating disorder, and have always been able to see my ribs. i was made fun of for years because of it, and constantly had people asking if i was anorexic in middle school, which, in terms of body-image, may be just as damaging as being told you're too fat. i went on a weight-gaining mission in high school to try to appear more "normal". but even with added weight, the bones were still visible. i have a bmi of 21, which is in the "normal" range. it's just a matter of storing fat in different places than others. My fat goes to my tummy and thighs. For other people, it's a more even spread, i think.

I live in a big city, so I usually stop by a corner store on my way to work to pick something up for later. I usually get a big ol' container of pineapple wedges for breakfast and a bag of pretzels and a container of hummus for lunch. The hummus is really filling and low-calorie and yummy. |

| When I first started the lexapro, it killed my appetite. It was great, I was losing a pound a week! But now that the side effects have worn off, I'm overeating just as much as I did before. I just wish I could give myself a kick in the butt to get going again! I keep saying, "tomorrow, tomorrow". And I'm usually so motivated! I think the anti-anxiety effects of the drug (which are incredible, by the way) have made me more lax about everything. I'm gonna try though. I just got an iphone so I can log my calories when I'm out and about, too, so maybe that will help. |

| Yeah I'm definitely sleeping a lot more now, and thats part of the problem. I mean, in some ways, it's nice, but.... I just want carbs and sweets ALL the time now. Sigh. |

| It is actually quite difficult to get the recommended amount of fiber per day. For a while, I was using a supplement, and even that didn't help me. What does seem to help is coffee. Dont know why. | |||
| Fitness | What size waistline to have Abs | Nov 17 2007 20:59 (UTC) |
|
| I had abs in high school. They're slowly starting to show again, and my waist hovers anywhere from 25-28 inches (natural waist, not belly button). I worked hard for these, though. At my best, I was doing 500 crunches a day. But I started with 50/day, and built from there. At one point, I was able to do 1,000 without breaking much of a sweat. Would *love* to be back there! | |||

| Weight Loss | Making up for overeating? | Nov 17 2007 19:47 (UTC) |
|
| I'm with Sweety on this one. Whenever I can, I do try to make up for what I had by eating less the next day, because, like her, I do a calorie count for the week, and not just one day. And so far I'm fairly successful- about two pounds per week. Might not work for everyone, but it does the trick for me. | |||

| It is SO frustrating that there are no cute bras and underwear to be found in A sizes. It makes me feel unsexy and younger than I am (which is 25) when I go into a lingerie store. There MUST be some demand for these things....right? I'm sick of feeling like a 13-year-old! | |||

| Weight Loss | 5'5 and 137 lbs --- what size should i be wearing??? | Nov 16 2007 17:21 (UTC) |

| I just don't see how it's possible. It's rather discouraging. I guess I have to try not to focus on sizes. I like the Gap, because their sizes run larger than everyone else's. I fit comfortably in a Gap size 6, and I might be getting close to a 4. But 0? Unimaginable. |

| Weight Loss | Almost at my second goal weight....still not happy with my body | Nov 16 2007 17:18 (UTC) |

| Nina- I think you're in good company here. As long as you know when to stop, and have good friends and supportive family, you'll get through this. Remember that a better goal is to be healthy, not skinny. It's quite difficult, but once you reach your goal weight, try to focus on other life goals, so that your mind isn't consumed with body image issues. Congrats on your weight loss thus far! |

| Gosh. I'm 5'4", and I would love to be in a size 2. How is it that I'm 126 and barely fit into a 6? Do you girls carry more weight in the chest? Perhaps that's the difference...I'm a 34A. | |||

| It kinda sounds like your diet consumes a lot of your life. Are you a model, or in some sort of industry where it's necessary to remain thin, or is it just the one pageant per year? Cuz if it's only a one-time deal, I'd suggest worrying a little less about specific measurements of foods, and not taking weight-loss meds/pills. There's great advice all over this site about losing weight and staying healthy- poke around a bit :) |

| Weight Loss | Losing sleep = losing weight | Nov 16 2007 15:46 (UTC) |

| Please get yourself more than 4 hours of sleep per night! You're liable to get hurt if you keep that up! I think the key is just not to OVERsleep. Get 8 hours a night, then get up and be active. Be safe, powderpuff! |

| Weight Loss | 50 pounds lighter why do I feel 100 pounds heavier? | Apr 27 2007 14:05 (UTC) |

| I'm sure you look wonderful, Penny! A lot of things can contribute to feeling like crap and feeling bad about yourself. Have you discussed your weight loss with a doctor at all? It may be that you've been trying so hard to lose weight that you've lost sight of the goal, and won't feel right unless you continue to lose at the same speed. Treat yourself to some time off from work if you can. Being busy all the time is so stressful. |
