| The chicken tenders sound great, I love the flavor combo of chili powder/lime juice. I'm being awfully lazy and ordering in chicago-style pizza since I'm taking my last final tonight and won't have time to cook. I'm ordering it loaded with veggies though. My fridge is pretty much empty right now, lol. | |||

| I have naturally extremely curly hair, and it's extremely thick to make matters worse. I've had the Japanese straightening, and for me personally, I love it. I'm getting it touched up again next week (I go every 6 mos). It's certainly not for everyone, but I'm pretty low-maintainence, so I'm just happy to get out of the shower, brush my hair, and it dries straight without dryers or irons. It's also not pin striaght forever, it does regain some volume after a few weeks. I've unfortnately had dozens of bad hair-cuts in my day, had it thinned in Jr High and the first time I washed it, my hair was twice its normal size since there was no weight to hold the curlies down (devastating to a 13 year old). I've also had the "so-long-I-look-like-a-xmas-tree" look, which wasnt flattering either. If you can find a stylist that specializes in curly hair, you could save yourself a few headaches... Good luck! | |||

| lynnpotterusa, here's a link for the recipe we used (we used a different stuffing recipe for the crockpot, we didn't stuff the turkey) : Oven Roasted Turkey with Sage Butter and here's the way we made our brine: http://www.recipezaar.com/101391 We did the brining in a huge pot, however, and skipped the roasting bags. Best of luck to you! |

I have to say, the recipe we used was delicious. I'm very happy with how it came out, and plan on using the recipe from now on when we make turkey. One thing we did that I forgot to mention was brine the turkey overnight. We always brine our pork chops and many other meats (especially those that we grill), and it works great. And the sage butter gave the meat such a great taste. I highly recommend trying it! Claire, I've heard others say they use your method, I will have to try that over the winter. I'm going to have to check out your recipe forum on iVillage, I always enjoy reading about your cooking methods. |

I have to agree with cutiebooty, our dinner was made entirely from scratch, and it came out fantastic. I'm especially proud of how good our turkey tasted - we brined it overnight and rubbed a sage butter under the skin before baking, and it was so moist and delicious, even the white meat. I made our cranberry sauce Wednesday night, and used fresh cranberries and orange juice in it- nothing from a can. Made homemade mashed potatoes with red potatoes, garlic, and butter, and got the creamed spinach recipe from Dickie Brennan's steakhouse in NOLA, which was amazing. Did a simple stuffing in the crockpot with rye and pumpernickel bread from a local jewish deli. Also made a homemade apple crisp with rolled oats and cinnamon, and it was to die for with some vanilla ice cream on top. I'm thinking of adding some caramel to it next year, though, as I felt it was missing something. I posted the recipe I used for my turkey in the recipes forum, under the "How are you cooking your turkey?" thread. I highly recommend it, and I definitely recommend brining your turkey. You'll never go back to the old basting method... |

| Our rice cooker is really convenient. It takes about 30 minutes to make 2 servings of rice, but we only have to plug it in on the counter and wait for it to cook, so it keeps the stove clear. Ours has a removable bucket that's easy to clean. If you have an asian market where you live, check it out. The rice cookers at our asian market were half the price of elsewhere. | |||

| Eh, it's not so bad. Ohio on the whole has nothing on NYC, my hometown. Haven't been to the zoo yet, it's not really my thing. I'm also not a football fan, so I don't have much in common with ANYONE in this town, lol.
I did like Cleveland and Cincy though, as they reminded me of home more than Columbus. I just can't wait to get out of this state, haha. |

| For what it's worth, it's really cool looking. I saw it in a store over the weeked and was fiddling around with it. It's display seems to be about 2x the size of the display on the ipod video. I have no complaints about my ipod, so I won't be getting one. I also like all the options there are for accessories for the ipod. Any of the other mp3 players have really limited accessories out there, which sucks. I almost got a creative zen vision, but none of the accessories I needed were even manufactured for the vision. I really don't like how that points system sounds, either. | |||

| This weekend is going to be crazy... I'm about half a mile from campus, so it won't be out of control but traffic will still be a nightmare. We're gonna chill with some friends at home and grill some brats from Schmidt's (a german place here in Columbus - amazing food), drink beer, and watch the game.... | |||

Their Little Italy is fun, it has a bunch of art galleries and restaurants. It's a cool place to spend a few hours. They have an AMAZING market, I can't remember what the name of it is, though. One huge building dedicated to produce and another with dozens of butchers/bakers/whatever. It's fantastic. Also check out Big Fun in Cleveland Heights on Coventry Rd. Possibly the coolest toy store I've ever been in. It's full of old school toys and other kitchy stuff. You have to check it out... edited to add: I was there in March, and it was freezing. Bring plenty of warm clothes... |

| It's so funny, everyone I spoken to about this can't stand the fact that Christmas is forced upon us so early, but none of these radio stations get it. Don't they do market research or something? If they do, who the hell are they researching? As a side note, I heard the guy that plays Santa at one of the malls in Long Island makes $80k for the season, and drives a Lexus. Crazy! |

| Weight Loss | Food Addiction? | Nov 03 2006 21:32 (UTC) |

| I've had feelings like that in the past. I've found that teaching myself how to cook has helped, oddly enough. To me, cooking can be elevated to almost an art form at times. All the different textures, flavors, etc. combine to make one work of art. So I try to sit down and enjoy my food in a different light- it's not there just to fill my gullet. I try to appreciate all the flavors of what I'm eating while I'm eating it, instead of trying to finish what I have in my mouth as quickly as possible to get to the next bite. Also, I've struggled with serious cravings in the past for fast food, so by more or less quitting fast food cold turkey and forcing myself to be creative with what I was eating has really made the cravings go away. Good luck! | |||

| I respectfully disagree with you, paws, on some levels. If you prepare food yourself, it generally is less expensive than eating fast food. You have to be a savvy shopper, however. Buying things such as rice, beans, etc. in bulk saves money, as opposed to buying single serving packages. Preparing meals ahead of time and portioning/freezing is helpful. Learning how to stretch out your dollar at the grocery store is hard, but it's possible. Organic/Fresh foods are pretty expensive at some stores. There was an article in Consumer Reports recently stating that doing your shopping between a number of stores can help save money. For example, I buy non-perishables in bulk from one store, but I get fresh veggies from a farmer's market or a local co-op where produce is cheaper. It's a matter of taking the initiative to do it. For some folks, they just don't have the time, so I can see how fast food becomes a habit in that respect. Also, I'm lucky to have all these options where I live, but there's definitely areas where the only place to get your food is the local big-box store. | |||

| Thanks for that link nomore! I'll have to check them out next time I'm in NYC. Everything in Manhattan is more expensive (even the big fast food joints charge at least $1 more for a value meal in Manhattan than in the other boroughs), so I'm sure they could lower their menu prices if they were franchised elsewhere. | |||
| Weight Loss | How Did You... | Nov 03 2006 15:55 (UTC) |

| I'm not personally offended, to each his/her own. I started putting on weight in Jr High. It really sucked, because I had no idea why. I wasn't any less active than I was before, I wasn't eating more than I used to. I believe it was my hypothyroidism that did it, but unfortunately I wasn't diagnosed with it until I was 20. I went through my teens always slightly overweight, but I did alot of damage to my system since I couldn't comprehend why I put weight on so easily and I put myself through some whacked out diets... I should have, in theory, lost weight after I started taking medications for my condition, but at 20 I was into partying, and I partied hard. So the combination of too much alcohol consumption, and um, munchies on a regular basis wreaked some havoc on my body. In the past 3 years, I've cleaned up my act, but I had some bigger demons to battle before I changed my eating habits. I'm in the final stages of becoming a new me, so I'm pretty happy with myself at this point. 5 years ago I'd never think I would be supporting myself, have a good paying job, in school, and happy with life. | |||

| Great ideas so far. I do all my studying in 45 minute blocks. I set my cell phone to ring after 45 minutes, and until the alarm goes off, I concentrate entirely on my work. No food, no cell phone, no internet, etc. All I have with me besides my work is a tall glass of water. After my 45 minutes is up, I allow myself a snack, computer time, etc. I used to graze while I was watching TV or on the computer, but I've forced myself to not do so anymore. It helps me keep my portion sizes down instead of grazing without paying attention. Is the "osu" in your screenname for Ohio State? I'm in Columbus, but I'm attending Columbus State. My boyfriend is a grad student at OSU. |
