That's great. Thanks alot for the info. Would definitely take a look at it. I'd like to know the difference between this institute and the course I'm taking as well. Would you mind taking a look? |

I'm already taking a course, NASM. It covers both practical and theory but I just don't think it's enough and I wanna learn more. Thanks for the advice anyway. |

Original Post by tommywantwingy: Thanks Tommy. Actually I've been training for about a year. However, being a trainer would be totally different than training myself, therefore, I wanna read and learn more. I've been all passionate about this career NOT bcuz of money but the love for sports and staying active. When I see people practising the wrong moves I would correct 'em, that's why I wanna be a trainer. |

Honestly, I wasn't expecting negative feedback like this when I started the thread. Spirochete, you have good reasons to HATE PTs bcuz some of 'em are not professional, but I wanna be a professional one and I'm all serious about my course and teaching, so I'm asking for advice here. I believe there are some real pro on this website so you can't be such a hater to all. To your concern, I won't be taking people's MONEY yet as I'm starting as a fitness instructor, which means I'll be shadowing (or more like an internship) until they qualifty me to work on my own. Perhaps Melkor is right, it's more of a manner thing. Re: Kashicat, Thanks for the advice and like I said, I should be shadowing in the first few months. However, I don't wanna count on 'em so much as I heard that some of 'em won't teach you much unless you're a client. I'm going to my second class this Fri, there'll be more practical so I'm looking forward to it. |

Perhaps you guys got me wrong? Of course I got the textbooks and stuff, I AM TAKING NASM, not yet qualifed, that's why I wanna read more reference books to enrich my knowledge before becoming a trainer! I wanna pactise all moves on myself before I could teach my clients the right thing. That's also why I'm asking other trainers to sharing the training experience... =( |

| Weight Loss | Do I still look skinny & can stand to gain a few more pounds? | Jan 11 2008 08:05 (UTC) |

You look slim and healthy and honestly, I don't think you need to gain anymore even tho you don't look like you weigh 118lbs, but lighter. I guess, keep up what you've been doing and work out consistently, you should be fine. :-) |

I totally feel for you. Personally, I'm also going thru BED and depression and trying so hard to be rid of 'em. However, some of my friends seem unwilling to acknowledge the problem or they just underestimate the seriousness. First thing first, never binge bcuz of the lack of attention, this only makes hatred of yourself grow. And what I do is stop talking to those ignore and concentrate on improving my health. Keep in mind that there're many people who share the same problem here, therefore we have each other. *hugs* |

Well, according to my biology teacher, human beings burn muscle (which should actually be proteins) only when we're extremely starved and running out of energy sources. Since normally, glycose (simple sugar) should be the first to be converted into energy, then fat, then proteins, yet he didn't mention anything about how a certain percentage of maximum heartrate would help burn more fat. I'm not challenging and I think what you two said totally makes sense, I'm also considering getting a heartrate monitor, but I don't know if it's worth getting. Anyway, thanks for the advice. |

| Fitness | Gym pet peeves.... | Oct 25 2007 10:26 (UTC) |

| The gym that I go to is pretty healthy. People there are real altheletic even though most of them are middle-aged, they're solid! Only there's one girl who comes in fully-clad, doing cardio non-stop for more than an hour in her wind-breaker and sweatpants. One time I got so worried that she might get a heat-stroke or something as I was there working on a stairmaster and sweating like a dog. | |||

I'm curious about your 300-cal-diet. Aren't you hungry at all while eating only 300 calories for a whole day? My suggestions would be get yourself to the gym or jogging trail. You feel happier and distracted from the thought of food during and after a good workout. Then, eat a balanced diet when you're hungry, stop when you get the first sign of fullness. Never ever restrict yourself to any food group (suppose you're not vegetarian). Most important, shake the thoughts of food/ binges off your mind. Joey |

| Foods | food label info.....what does this mean? | Jul 23 2007 04:14 (UTC) |

| Hi lola,
As you can see the percentages of certain nutrients on the label, those percentages are based on a 2000 cal diet. Therefore, if you consume more or less than that, those percentages vary. Hope it helps. Joey |

| Man, this is really sick.
I don't think the stomach lining would improve the taste as the chocolate tastes pretty damn good already. Not that I'm a super fan of Snickers and every now and then I have a sweet tooth. It also reminds me how difficult it is to look for cheese which doesn't contain rennet. Being vegetarian is not a bad thing, right?! |

| Weight Loss | Suggestions for Learning Portion Control | Jun 27 2007 04:40 (UTC) |
5 |
| first off, you gotta quit taking c-c as an obsession. Personally I don't think c-c has anything to do with portion controlling. You can eat SMALL portion of high calories food without filling yourself up and still gain weight, while a HUGE portion of veggies which doesn't have much calories would make you feel full.
What I'm trying to say is apart from c-c, you should learn to pick the healthier food for yourself. Fill half your plate with veggies (raw or with little oil or low fat dressing) and 1/4 lean proteins then the rest with carbo. This way, you'll know how much is enough for you and you don't have to count like crazy. Also, allow yourself a treat (the real thing) every now and then. :-) *hugs* |

| Weight Loss | bingers please answer.. | Jun 22 2007 03:35 (UTC) |

| drink lots and lotsa water. Binges cause bloatedness, esp. if you binge on salty junk food. I'm suffering from BED myself so I'd say you gotta be easier on yourself and listen to your inner voice. Eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full. Restriction always causes further binges.
Goodluck. Joey |

| Try to eat 6 oz of yogurt everyday. It helps reduce the size of belly by improving the instestine movements, thus you have a better digestive system. | |||
| Weight Loss | What goes through people's minds... | May 25 2007 08:08 (UTC) |

| I wouldn't be able to work out at all! Man, they have very strong willpower!
I knew somebody who actually got on the 3-day apple diet. No exercise cuz she doesn't like to work out. People are going too extreme on dieting and they neglect the consequences of extreme dieting, like eating disorder, bulimia and aneroxia, also a weakened immune system and messed up metabolism. |

| Fitness | Running has made me bigger! | May 12 2007 04:20 (UTC) |

| I'm also one of those girls who build up muscles fast, running also makes me bigger.
2 years ago I was running plus free weight for 3-4 times weekly yet I didn't lose a single pound but I grew bigger. Therefore I stopped training all together and as I became vegetarian, weight started to come off. Then since last Sept, I started to work out twice at gym, so I lost more weight but recently I started to up it to 3 times a week and do free weight again, yet eating order hits me back, and I have put on weight, also muslces. So it's not impossible for women for build up muscle in a fast pace. Another thing is we should never push too hard and opt for the way which is the most suitable for us. It's all trial and error. |

| Fitness | Some cardio days are SO HARD: WHY? Any physical explanations? | Apr 07 2007 03:39 (UTC) |
4 |
| My guess is nutritional and stress level.
First you haven't mentioned how many cals you consume, whether you on a balanced diet matters most. Since you work out 7 days, you body might not have enough rest between each workout, you push too hard and it takes toll on your fitness level. If you insist on working out 7 days a week, go easy on the day after weight training, say instead of one hour cardio, go for 35-45 min on lower level. Joey |

| Oh man, it sucks.
But on second thought, you didn't know it contained meat, so I suppose it's okay. Plus you said you wouldn't have it if you knew there was meat. Assume you didn't catch on any of the meat and never get that soup again in your life. You're still vegetarian, sweetie. |

| Well, guess I'll just wait until Thur then, coz Thur and Sun workouts are part of the routine.
I tried to make it three times to gym but I ended up tiring myself and didn't complete the whole workout. |

Usually I'm full eating around 1400-1600, anything more than that, I'll feel stuffed. |

To me, my body is the weirdest thing ever! |

| Weight Loss | Emotional Eating! | Mar 20 2007 09:52 (UTC) |
7 |
| I'm with you, sweetie.
Being a terrible emotional eater myself, binge happens when I feel emotionally empty, stressed, tired and get worked up over my daily calorieds intake, as well as when PMS kicks in. Then the more I dwell on the post-binge guilt, the more likely for me to binge again. Yet if I'm able to put guilt behind my mind, I would get back on track but hell knows how long it lasts. Speaking of resist, sometimes I have the willpower while sometimes don't. I would keep telling myself that it's hormone messing with my mind and I don't really want food or I go to sleep but usually I would eat when I get up from a nap. lol |

| Weight Loss | any suggestions? I'm overwhelmed! | Mar 13 2007 04:40 (UTC) |
12 |
| don't worry, you haven't scared anyone off.
Here's the deal, you wanna lose weight, keep a close eye on your diet, in a sense that you should focus on eating healthy. Have you used the tool on c-c to find out how many cal you need for a day? Don't go below 1200 cal, no matter what. if you plan to eat 1450, that's fine. Have balanced diet and yeah, you need to work out. If you are not active at all, or a couch potato, then you should start it by walking, on treadmill or just walk your dog, slowly for 30 min each, and slowly pick up the pace. After all, how far and how fast you walk rests on your ability. But for fat burning, you are supposed to hit 65 -80% of your maximum HR. For the right kinda food, salad is always your best friend, if you must have dressing, go for a low-fat version. Personally, I have everything low-fat and avoid fried food. Hope it helps. |

| Well, it started some years back, but only since a few months ago, I've made it a routine to work out twice to thrice a week.
Now you remind me, it could definitely be lack of sleep, as I don't log more than 6 hours sleep everyday. I've tried to sleep as much as I can, but still 6 hours are the most I can get. How can I curb my hunger in a lack of sleep? |
