| Health & Support | How to fix blood sugar problems | Jul 11 2008 22:57 (UTC) |

Type I Diabetes is usually juvenile which means you have had diabetes since you were a child. Type II Diabetes is usually adult onset. I have steroid induced diabetes because I am on steriods for my asthma. You really should make an appointment with your physician. You should check your blood sugars an hour before you eat or two hours after you eat. They should be in the range of 80 - 130. Anything over 130 is considered high (Hyperglycemic) and anything below 70 is considered low (hypoglycemic). You probably should watch your sugar intake and stay away from diet sodas because some of the artificial sweetners can increase your blood sugars without you knowing. You shouldn't be going from extremes such as 40 - 290. Those are some extreme blood sugars. With an active lifestyle you should be eating about every three hours as well. |

| Recipes | Please help...zest?? | Apr 22 2008 16:34 (UTC) |

The zest is the outside part of the fruit. It is the peel so all you have to do is use a cheese grater or any grater and run it along the outside over the pan or dish that you are adding to it. You only need a little to make a lot of flavor. Rachel Ray uses zest all the time so if you just watch any of her shows on Food Network or her talk show in the afternoon you will see her demonstrate this. |

| Health & Support | Asthma and Working out...... | Apr 10 2008 20:37 (UTC) |

I was born with asthma and have severe persistent asthma. I am unable to do any cardio outside of the pool. I swim laps every day for at least 60 minutes to try to build up the lung capacity and the endurance. The best is to use your inhaler before and after according to your doctors instructions. For instance, I take my inhaler two puffs as needed so I will do one puff before I start my workout and one after as a preventative. Then if I need the rescue I use it as regularly scheduled. I have been able to do some brisk walking low impact DVD's which has helped as well. I am not sure I will be able to run but my suggestion would be to slowly work on endurance and then work on your speed. Just try to regulate your breathing and make sure that you don't push it to hard at the beginning and find yourself puffing for air to get through or back home. Just take it slow and easy and keep your breathing regulated. I would love to be able to regular cardio but if you have trouble with that I would highly recommending finding a place where you can swim for your workouts. It helps with the breathing/asthma and allows you to workout at full force. Some local hotels will offer monthly rates for swimming or various other places. Email me if you have any other questions. I have done a lot of research and have worked closely with my physician on exercise methods with asthmatics beings how I have been on the ventilator five times since May of 07 and seven times total in my lifetime. I try to avoid having attacks if at all possible. |

| Foods | What should I buy to put together a good vegetrarian salad for myself? | Apr 03 2008 19:13 (UTC) |

I like using iceberg or romaine lettuce, radishes, onions, peeled carrots, banana peppers, pickles on the side, and some mozzarella cheese. I also top it with almond accents that are already chopped and ready to go or you can buy any type of nut and put on top that will make it good. I use those salad spritzers as well which are like 10 calories for 10 sprays. They are yummy. I usually make a salad every day either for lunch or for dinner. You can make a big salad for low calories. |

I had problems with my ribs popping out when I would have an asthma attack and my doctor referred me to a chiropractor for adjustments. He was able to adjust them back into place without much of a problem. My insurance covered the visits. They are real doctors and can do a good job you just have to be careful with the one you go to. Make sure that they have a legitimate practice like any other doctor you would trust. My orthopedic doctor and my physical therapist would not touch the adjustments and they all recommended the chiropractor. Just a situation on the reverse side of things. I used to have your attitude and opinion about chiropractors until I needed one. |

| I agree, I have gained anywhere from 2 to 5 pounds overnight from water retention. This is why they tell you not to weigh daily because of the fluctuations. You are more likely to see a loss if you weigh once a week because of the average. Weigh each week the same day, time, etc. Just a suggestion to keep you from freaking out over water fluctuation. | |||

| Sorry everyone for the confusion but our twelve weeks was up last Wednesday. This is the final results for last week. So I am not doing anything with anyone who weighed in on the 12th. I hope everyone has a great time and like I said previously whoever wants to start posting a new roll call and organize another challenge may be so. I am just not going to be able to do anymore challenges at this time with my health and time constraints. If anyone has any questions feel free to email me. I will have the moderators close this thread soon. | |||

| Foods | Gordon Biersch...I thought is was a salad! | Mar 09 2008 22:03 (UTC) |

| The pita with all of the spices probably had some butter and other various types of things and the goat cheese would be high and vinaigrette can be high if it is a thicker version. For example, this restaurant that we have in our neighborhood carries a raspberry vinaigrette dressing that you would think would be healthy but is almost 150 calories for a tablespoon so you have to be really careful. I would probably think the salad was around 600 or so calories instead of the 1100 but I could be wrong. I would do a search on the salad type and see if you can find something similar. Olive garden's salads are very high in calories as well. So sometimes when eating out you have to be extremely careful if you are watching your calories. | |||
| Weight Loss | Too slow weight loss, the pounds are not falling off. | Mar 08 2008 21:08 (UTC) |
|
| I work out anywhere from 60 to 120 minutes a day and realized that keep my calories around 1,400 was too low I had to increase my calories with clean eating like fresh veggies and stuff you feel full all the time but eventually get used to the increase and now I am starting to lose weight again. Before I was either staying the same or even gaining at times. I have a food scale and log everything. On most days that I work out I need to be anywhere from 1,800 to 2,000 calories because I burn right around 3,000 or more calories depending on the cardio activity that I choose to day. I would just try increasing your calories and see what happens. I have also found that staggering my calories by keeping them low one day and high the next has helped with weight loss and weight loss plateaus. | |||

| Long term use can cause the opposite affect muscle loss, weakness, weight gain, and some other major side effects. I have been on long term steriods (prednisone) for a year now and have had many health issues and have developed Cushings Syndrome. However, a 6 day burst will not have an affect on you. You may feel hungrier towards the end but just try to keep your appetite in check which is difficult to do at times. Good luck and hope that the small dose works for your sinus infection. It does reduce inflammation and will clear your skin up if you have any problems with your skin. | |||

| Tomorrow represents the last week then I will post results for the week and the total challenge. I am not going to be able to continue another challenge after this one because of health reasons. I haven't been able to complete results as quickly as I would like and it isn't really fair to everyone so if anyone wants to take it over you just have to start a roll call for another challenge in the games and challenge forum. Or you can email me and I can help you out with it. I may start another one in a few months again after things have calmed down but right now it is just too difficult to keep up with. Lets make this next week count!! | |||

| Plus their week is longer than 7 days. It is an average of 10 days that they weight in when you look at all the statistics and how long the show runs and I remember reading about it from their actual website. They are closely monitored and they even had that at home. But their workout intensity is huge and they have a lot bigger deficit then 1000 calories under the supervision of their trainers and their doctors. So this allows them to lose more weight in a smaller time frame then what we would because we are doing it on our own and slower because of safety and not having the constant time to workout all day long without interruptions and to be able to eat the type of meals that they eat. | |||

| Thanks Cfeltontufty. I ended up logging it under what the elliptical said because I would rather have it be less than more. My elliptical was working fine and now it isn't so I a going to have to see if I can get it fixed. It is still under warranty because I just got it this past summer for my birthday. | |||

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
