| Health & Support | anorexia is straining my marriage... | Oct 31 2009 18:32 (UTC) |

Um. I'm no health expert, and not even out of high school (haha), so I'll mostly second what everyone said above. But ultimatums of divorce? I think you should address that ASAP!! Your husband is being totally out of line and un-supportive. I'm sure there are extraneous factors and he's a good person, but you have obviously been through a lot and need support not threats!! Sorry felt the need to share my two cents worth. Anyway good luck on getting your period back; most of what was said above sounds like safe advice. Congratulations on coming so far in recovery!! That must have been so difficult, and it's good to hear you're at a healthy weight. Hopefully the hardest part is behind you. (: |

Honestly, I think you should keep using your machine even if it makes you extremely uncomfortable at first. I think if you kept doing it you would eventually get over your "fear." Which is important cause its not fun to live with so much insecurity. Also if you don't you may come to resent your room mates. I have similar issues but with eating. Now if I am eating and my dad is in the other room I get really angry at him. I think it'd be good if you try and overcome this fear now instead of feeding your insecurity. Just my 2 cents. |

| The Lounge | What is Twitter and what's the point of it? | Sep 24 2009 11:38 (UTC) |
|
It bothers me that on the news or from other adult-run sources you hear all these stories about how twitter is "sweeping the nation" and how that's all us kids are doing. That it's the new craze. I find it annoying because I come from an average high school and almost NO ONE uses it. The only time I ever hear kids talking about it is to say how stupid they think it is, or how its like the status-update part of Facebook and that's it. I think that the "craze" for kids or the way we spend most of our time communicating online is still Facebook. I could be wrong but I think twitter is actually more of an adult/organization crowd.. |

I am definitely the type of person who tends to turn their life into a crusade (; But I don't think this article is all that helpful. I mean sure, in the grand scheme of things we are just blips in space and time. But none of us live as an all powerful overseer of the universe. For the rest of your life you are going to live with yourself, thinking inside your head. I don't know. I just think that thinking everything that happens to you is insignificant seems like a quick way to fall out of love with life, and wonder "what's the point?" On the other hand a very anxious/overwhelmed/dramatic person might benefit from this. Realizing that these expectations are all man-made, and we have to right to just float through life peacefully... Hum. I think I went off topic. Oh well. |

"I've heard that you should have three cups of milk, (whopping concept, all I've ever drunk is water) a day"
This is B.S. Cow's milk is unnatural and unnecessary. Okay just had to get that out haha. (: I think it's good you're drinking water. Soy seems to be controversial, but I agree with kema20. And that's sort of a nice surprise in a way about the calorie confusion :P
edit: yes this is my opinion, if that wasn't clear ;) |

| Health & Support | What would you call binging? | Aug 02 2009 15:08 (UTC) |

Binging is usually alone, secretive, frantic, and you barely even taste the food going down before you're looking for more. IMHO.
I think you just ate more than usual today, which is fine once in a while. (: |

| The Lounge | Question for those of you who are therapists | Jul 30 2009 14:22 (UTC) |
5 |
I'm not a therapist (though I aspire to be one someday!), but I've been to various psychologists. None of them have ever hugged me. I think it would have made me uncomfortable, and the full trust between patient and therapist would be broken. The longest period I saw one therapist for was about two years. I haven't even graduated high school yet... but I can say that some bad stuff has happened to me AND it's the most interesting field of study. (: |

| Weight Loss | gained back more than i lost...words of encouragement needed. | Jul 27 2009 19:53 (UTC) |
2 |
It sounds like you probably wish you could just stop binging and start calorie counting/losing weight again back to 105. But from personal experience, trying to stop binging + trying to lose weight at the same time = disaster. I think you should not worry about your weight and work on eating 3, square, healthy meals per day. I find it helpful to also pick times that you will eat every day. (For example, breakfast at eight, lunch at 12, dinner at six...). I just think if you try to eat like a "normal" person for a while you will be satisfied and able to ease out of the binging cycle. Eventually when you have a healthier outlook you can lose a few pounds. (not that you even need to!)
Just my 2 cents |

| The Lounge | blonde or brunette? | Jul 26 2009 20:25 (UTC) |

I like dark hair on women the best. I think I tend to be most attracted to brazilian-looking women :P After that probably chicks with crazy "scene" hair... :X I think it looks cool (no not because its a current fad). On men, brunette or blonde, then any other colours. But I don't think hair colour is half as important as personality & confidence. (: |

Wow I'm in the exact same situation. I went to the beach with my boyfriend's family for six days. Typically I am heading towards vegan and mostly eat nuts, veggies, fruits, brown rice, berries.. I ate out twice a day almost every day, snacks, desserts, etc. Lots of cheese, chips, sugar. Also went from running every day to not at all during the trip. I thought I was going to gain so much weight so the night I came back (last night) I was really upset and binged on ice cream and cake! (a sickly amount of each). This morning I weighed myself and it turned out I only gained two pounds. Now I feel stupid that I went and binged.. and in addition to feeling mentally bad I feel physically sick and gross from it. Hopefully that binge was part of those 2 lbs :/
anyway long-winded story but I just wanted to say everyone tends to gain a little weight on vacation (especially when you're trying to be a gracious guest), but its probably less than you think. And it usually comes off quickly. (: Good luck |

| The Lounge | Your Boring Name--love it or hate it?? | Jul 09 2009 20:51 (UTC) |

My name is Amanda. I actually like it. Its unfortunately very common, but throughout elementary and middle school there was only ever one other Amanda. I like the meaning (love/loveable). I also like my nicknames (Mandy/Manda). My parents have always called me Mandy so it used to sort of annoy me that my friends would call me Manda instead. But obviously now I like both. I hate my middle name though. My mom thought it would be really cool to make my middle name her maiden name. Its very masculine and ek. I also sort of equate my last name to gross-ness but thats more of a self esteem issue. I think the most common names of my generation (im almost 17) are lauren, sarah, nicole, kelly, brittney(it seems there are infinite ways to spell this), samantha, allie, etc. etc. (for girls anyway). A lot of names that I think are adorable like emma, sophia, etc. seem to be getting really popular for baby names so soon those will be overused. :P I already know what I would name my daughter though ;) |

I did it two? years ago. It was actually the most fun 5K I have ever run. There are people of every pace so don't worry and yes people walk. Not sure where yours will be but for me it was also the flattest 5K i've ever run (: Also they give out lots of free stuff, which is always fun haha. |

Thanks for answering (: thats reassuring. I'll probably bring it up next session with my therapist. Hmm.. I haven't done much I'll admit. I force myself to do stuff that makes me uncomfotable to put myself out of my comfort zone.. that works to a point. But thats about it. Thanks! |

| Fitness | whats a "good" time for HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY runners? | Jul 04 2009 00:44 (UTC) |

thats funny i used to take tennis lessons too. then i joined XC and like it about 1000x more (: The really good girls get 20/21 minute 5Ks. maybe faster but they're ridiculous. I've never gotton under 27 minutes :/ I will this year though! (I'm on JV; we have a large team) I agree with what the above poster said about switching up your runs. If you don't make varsity this year there's still a good chance you could in the future. I wouldn't believe what the tennis coach said about colleges. I think they like to see commitment. |

I think it its complete and utter exploitation. "Needing the money" is no excuse. If they needed to shove their children into a reality tv lifestyle to support them, they shouldn't have had any children in the first place. It's entirely their fault. |

Haha thanks guys (: I think I will take your advice and just say no thanks firmly. If they are really persistant I'll use your other creative ideas (:
Not sure I can pull off being evangelical (I guess I'm sort of the opposite of that?) but if need be I will rant about how disgusting milk is :X Hopefully the craziness will scare them off of the topic like you said haha. Thanks (: (: |

| Weight Gain | binge eating | Jun 07 2009 16:21 (UTC) |
7 |
I agree that is probably not binging. I just wanted to say that when I stopped associating as a binger (thinking ''I'm a binger, I need to stop binging'', etc.) it helped me just eat at normal meal times. Though I think you need to eat a lot being a teenage boy (lucky ;) ), if you stop thinking of yourself as a binger I think it will be easier to focus on just being healthy and you will respect yourself a whole lot more, rather then feeling like there's something wrong with you that you need to fix. (: |

| Foods | 10 ten favorite foods, 10 least favorite | Jun 07 2009 16:00 (UTC) |

I'mmmm procrastinating. So (: Favorite: 1) Almonds! (everything) 2) bird's eye asian medley fresh frozen vegetables (taste/feel/color/nutrition) 3) Bananas (taste/smell) 4) Apples (make me feel light not full) 5) Brown rice (so good) 6) Black Raspberry ice cream (though don't have anymore really 'cause i'm cutting out dairy grossness. but this still tastes so good!) 7) Cucumbers (always have) 8) Chocolate hemp milk 9) egg whites (cutting out dairy but i kinda need this - for now) 10) Mustard! (its really good)
Ew Foods: 1) meat, includes fish (im a vegetarian) 2) milk/milk products (ew EVERYTHING. i could go on and on about this.) 3) juice (juice and i are not friends) 4) wheat (though i do still eat it) 5) peanut butter (i think it makes my acne worse) 6) soda/anything carbonated (only had like 3x in my life. burns my throat) 7) chips, salty stuff that comes in bags, snacky things that are salty and leave your fingers dirty and your lips hurting 8) flaxseed oil (i have this every day and its very beneficial but oh my god does it taste bad!) 9) candy.. and strawberry sorbet (even the vegetarian candy. i'll admit some does taste good, but the red and pink flavours of like every candy tastes like the medicine i used to gag on as a child) 10) cake (the icing is a different story) |

| Young Calorie Counters | girlies around 5'6" | Jun 03 2009 00:05 (UTC) |

I'm 5'6.5''. i was 153. now im 139. goal is 120-125. my motivation would be health/fitness and wanting to be able to do things with my body, not be restricted by it. Another goal is that when I was 130 this past fall my mood was greatly improved and I did not worry as much about how my clothes looked blahblahblah because I looked good (: But I should say I look good now too (: negative selftalk wont help ;)
edit: i also agree with marieclairehill's post. I have had a huge binging problem so counting calories is what lets me not binge. But I guess the longterm goal would be to be healthy, make good choices, and not have to count at all (: This shouldn't consume anyones thoughts and that can happen too easily. |

| The Lounge | Vegans/Vegetarians...I have a question | May 31 2009 14:14 (UTC) |
17 |
I love animals! People always tell me "but its natural for humans to eat meat, blahblahblah" .. I don't understand why they always try to argue me out of being a vegetarian... as if I'm going to stop. It's not like I try to convert anyone to be one. Sorry ranting :P Been vegetarian for about a year and 4 months ish? I'm slowly trying to go vegan. Went vegetarian mostly for ethical reasons. Want to go vegan for ethical, health, and cosmetic reasons (milk->acne, food sensitivies, etc.). I still eat some milk products, but clothing/shoes/items-wise I no longer buy anything made of animals. |

| Health & Support | has anyone successfully completely stopped bingeing? | Apr 18 2009 07:32 (UTC) |
|
I'm not "cured" but i havent binged for twenty days so far =] And I've had a binging issue for years now. I know exacty what you mean about relapsing. And every time it gets harder because you think Oh well I'll just screw up again. Or oh well I'll start over after tonight. What is helping me right now: a) a physical journal where i write down what I eat b) i'm not sure if you're counting calories but since i am instead of aiming for say.. "1300 or less". my goal is "1500-1600" So i don't feel guilty about hitting either number and can fall anywhere inbetween. I haven't fallen below or above once.
d) cleaning, dusting, arranging. |
