Hey, good for you for actually admitting your feelings.  You can't control your automatic responses so there's no point in beating yourself up for them or giving them hideous labels. They're just feelings. The only time thoughts and emotions can actually be called evil are when they control your actions. Sounds like you're too much of a thinking person to let that happen. (Actually I suppose, they can be powerful/negative when you worry about having them and beat yourself up about it. Feel 'em, acknowledge 'em, maybe even laugh at yourself then let 'em go.. It's like what my pal used to say about guilt. It's an utterly useless emotion. If you're not going to act on it by making change, let it go.)

Those days, when it's hard and sucks, are the days when you wanna get out of the race metaphor and go for something else that doesn't have winners and losers.

I had a long tough streak and couldn't get back into it until I got my inspirational message that wasn't actually inspirational. It was more like, so? Bad day? There's tomorrow. It stopped the loop of self-recrimination and misery.

No more feeling like a loser and just being someone leading a life that includes clean teeth (and a better body):

when you forget to brush your teeth, you don't get down on yourself. You simply get up the next day and brush again. It's not a big issue. Should be the same with good eating habits. When you slip a day, or don't get the results you want, don't look back and beat yourself up, just wake up the next day and do it again. (apologies to anyone who's tired of reading that. It was just such a DUH moment for me that made a huge difference)

On the other hand. SIXTY EIGHT POUNDS. That's worth feeling like a winner because it's an accomplishment not to be sneezed at.

HEY, maybe you're due for a plateau?

thanks for the sane calm reply, stellajo. I realized a lot of my problem was I was being too careful.  A nice stroll is a great idea.

I'm 47 and don't have a lot to add--just wanted to post so I can find this conversation easily (I'm lazy). And I might be menopausal or I might just be going into a crabby stage of my life because I'm hungry a lot. I honestly can't tell which it is. I hope it stops soon.

my husband never said a word about my appearance but he pointed out that both my parents died of stroke and he and I would both be furious with me if I died of something preventable when our kids were still young. I didn't feel at all insulted when he made it a health matter.

Since then of course, he's been making all sorts of fat-filled food (he loves to bake) so the whole support thing kind of fizzled out.

here it is my official YAHOO note. I'm 179 and happy to be here. I will use this as a "see? life isn't so bad" note when I start wondering if I'll be here for the rest of my life. It has been worse.

and congrats, Sarah btw. . not on the bombed exams but the new weight.

Congrats sb! I don't know why those dropping to a new 10 group is so gratifying but whoa mama, it sure is!!

Okay, at last I can say goodbye and will go find the 170s club and be excited about being there so when I'm stuck there for about 10 weeks I can look back at the first note and say see? it's not that bad!

hk, orange juice? wouldn't that burn coming back?

POTENTIAL TMI:

I'm currently dealing with stomach flu here--kids, not me . . .  yet. And they seem to tolerate flat Sprite pretty well.

Day Two and we're doing Saltines and Sprite and water and Cheerios.  They're nibbling, not munching--and sipping lots and lots of water. Mostly lots and lots and lots of fluids because they have a fever on top of the both-ended horribleness.

It's a pretty bad flu and when they don't eat or drink, they have the dry heaves which is worse than anything. The doctor/neighbor said it should be okay if the water and Sprite are staying down at least an hour. So far, so good. Well, rotten, actually. Poor things.  But I'm nagging them to sip fluids (a half hour after their systems have settled again)

Phoenix-- our real doctor (not the neighbor) says for a few days of flu, food isn't vital, but fluids are. It's very hard to starve, but frighteningly easy to get dehydrated with this kind of illness.

I like the idea of paying myself per pound but I go up and down too much.

I guess the five pounds is the way to go for the more unstable weightloss types.

Team one, bums away, katier, 182 this week.

I can't recall what I was last. Either 185 or 187 depending on whichever day we were supposed to weigh in. . . (I was 187 last Tuesday, 185 last Wednesday)

And I have no idea why the weight going more quickly is happening. That's the odd part. I've been doing this since september and I still can't figure out what works or doesn't work with the body (on a day-to-day basis, anyway. overall? it makes sense)

Are they worth using for exercise? what kind works for them? Any recommends for video/online program/whatever?
