I don't know either, but I've washed a couple of dry clean only items and they lost their shape and never went back to normal.

Was it to call me fat?  Lazy?  Fat AND lazy?  Fat and pregnant?  Or was she poking fun at my otherwise thinness by calling me fat?  Like calling a fat guy "Tiny?"  I just do not understand.  I'm totally confused.  Why would someone say that?

What she was really trying to get across is that you way-over-analyze things and should just let it go.

Clearly that was what just what she had in mind before she said it being that she's never met me before this comment.  I should see if she'll give me a psychic reading next time I see her.

I was just curious how other people would interpret it.  I'm not gonna go cry or anything.

Did she say it like she was trying to be mean, or like she was trying to be funny?  I'm only thinking she might have been making a joke, though admittedly, not a very funny one, because you were eating yogurt not a big mac or something...  If you want to go calling somebody fat, you certainly aren't going to do it over a yogurt. (well, hopefully you don't do it anyway, but you know what I mean)

Well, she didn't sound mean, but sometimes it's hard to tell when people are doing that passive-aggressive fake joking thing.  I agree though that if it was a joke it was a total failure.

Health & Support Normal vs Unusual Nov 18 2009

I had a while where I thought I was losing more hair than usual.  I made sure to watch my part to see it wasn't getting any bigger and see that my ponytail wasn't getting smaller in diameter.  Neither of those things happened, so I think it's just that my hair is very long.  It looks like a ton of hair because each hair is so long.  Also, I don't comb my hair or wash it daily, so when I do wash it I believe more comes out than if I did wash it daily or it fell with brushings.  Watch your part and your ponytail diameter and for any thinning spots.  If you don't see these, you are probably fine.  It is reassuring.

I love canned cranberry!  The thing I love MOST about it is that it retains the shape of the can and looks extra classy when my mom dumps it out and serves it in a crystal bowl.  I like to cut my slice from one of the indents from the can.  No, I am NOT joking.

I think you're underweight when you start having physical problems due to your low weight--being cold all the time, hair fall, bad skin, tired all the time, hungry all the time, losing periods, etc.  If you have symptoms, you have a problem.

or if you are going to extreme lengths to achieve/maintain the low weight.

adolphs: I use liquid detergent.  it's Tide high efficiency detergent--it's the only soap I use.

Yes, I agree that these front-loading machines are crap.  I've had nothing but problems with it.  It's supposed to save so much water, but the loads have to be way smaller.  It's supposed to be quiet, but mine sounds like a plane is taking off in my basement.  It's been clogged up and quit running halfway through cycles, leading to washing the same clothes 2 or 3 cycles, repeatedly and we had to get that fixed.  The door of the machine didn't go on right and wouldn't close properly, and we had to get that fixed...And it's been systematically ruining our clothes since we got it.  Gimme the old fashioned kind any day!!

it was my understanding that buspirone/buspar isn't used very much anymore as there are a lot of other drugs that are more reliably effective, that buspar is pretty hit or miss.  one time my doctor suggested it as an option, so i asked him about that, and he basically said "yeah, pretty much."

I used to work in a high-end appliance store doing office admin but I trained to go into sales at one point.

Do you use fabric softner? It's more likely to discolor and spot clothes than detergent. Maybe there's some caked in the machine.

Have you run an empty load using distilled white vinegar? The vinegar should break down any residue in your machine.

I don't use fabric softener.  I have used the white vinegar in the machine.  This is why I wonder if it is really soap buildup.  The machine is about 1.5 yrs old.

Weight Loss Metabolism Trick Nov 09 2009
18:26 (UTC)
Original Post by sonnysideup:

Ok, why wouldn't this work?

If you're supposed to eat smaller meals more often because eating more often "stokes the coals" of your metabolism. Why dont you just eat normally, but have a small amount of food that is very low cal (i.e. a single handful of popcorn). every hour on the hour throughout the day.

And, of course, reducing carbs at meal time to compensate.  But then you would literally always be making your metabolic functions process something. While still eating normally at appropriate times.

So is this a dumb idea or not. I honestly don't know. I'm sure there is some flaw here, cause I can't imagine I am the first person to think of this. love to hear comments.

-Sonny

I tend to eat small meals throughout the day, and sometimes I do eat more like 100 calories an hour.  the only downside i have noticed is that when I eat that way I will feel like either A) I haven't eaten REAL FOOD all day and then overeat on a meal or B) I've been eating all day long on low-cal foods and end up restricting too much and undereat.

I'm guessing if that happens, my premiums will more than quadruple. They went up significantly between '08 and '09 - I haven't gotten around to checking what is going to happen in '10.

Point is, that the costs have no chance of coming down on their own, either the costs of premiums or the care covered.

And with all of the current reform proposals, the chance of any of those prices coming down is still zero.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think needs to happen for those prices to come down?

Try to remind yourself that it is only temporary.  If it gets too difficult, call your doctor.  They can do a cross-taper for you that might make things easier, ie having you go back on a low dose of Zoloft while your Wellbutrin starts to kick in, then coming down on it slowly until discontinuation.  If you're so down that you're laying in bed all day, that warrants a call to your doctor.  Good luck!

Pregnancy & Parenting intuition? Nov 07 2009

Yes, i had a feeling about a week after conception.  I just "knew it."  I took a test too early that was negative.  I didn't believe the test at all, took it a week later, and it was positive.  I also "just knew" it would be a boy, calling it "him," and it's a boy.  I also feel like I "know" that labor will come early, but I'm not sure if I'm right on that yet, we'll see very soon!  I know that sounds crazy.  It's probably just luck...

Thank you for the replies!!  That gave me a lot to ponder.  Maybe I am not lactose intolerant after all.

I actually had a test for celiac one time that was negative.  There was a question of it before I was pregnant because I had anemia (they eventually decided was due to a ruptured cyst bleeding).  I don't know much about medical testing for celiac disease, but the test I had was a blood test.  I've heard that for some of those tests to be accurate you need to be eating a diet high in gluten before hand, and I don't think I typically do.  I am not sure the test was reliable.  Do you think it is something worth retesting for?

As far as Crohns or colitis or that type of thing, I really don't have problems with diarrhea very often and haven't had blood.  Diarrhea is really rare for me, it's usually gas/bloating/pain if I have problems.  My pizza reactions might be related to grease/fat too as I seem to have issues if I eat too greasy of foods.

A food diary is a good idea.  I'd really like to get a full workup for this, but it'll have to wait until after pregnancy.  Pregnancy really clouds the picture when it comes to investigating any health issues.

Your bra will likely be a long line bra that does do some shaping in your midsection.  They usually recommend that you bring that bra to your fitting.  Unless you are planning on losing a drastic amount of weight, I think that the alterations will be fine if you lose a little weight.

There will be days when I'm insatiably hungry all day no matter how much I eat, and when I think back on what I've had it usually is lacking in protein in a big way.  I am really, really bad about getting my protein in, so sometimes I will have had hardly any protein source all day.  Those have been the worst days for hunger for me.

Foods egg whites vs egg beaters - price & taste Nov 04 2009

I MUCH preferred actual eggs to egg beaters.  Egg beaters had a weird taste to it (I tried regular) that I couldn't cover up or ignore.  I ate it once and threw it out.  You'll have to try for yourself though, a lot of people like it.
