| Weight Loss | Watching my calories | Apr 13 2007 00:40 (UTC) |

| I agree, calorie counting can make some people (myself included) too obsessed with food. It exposes me to food way too much. I try to eat three meals per day with only a very light snack at the 4:00pm hour if needed. 6 meals a day puts me around food too much and just leaves me feeling constantly hungry. | |||
| Weight Loss | Working out in the a.m. | Apr 13 2007 00:37 (UTC) |

| I was doing the morning work-out thing, but it made me feel hungrier during the day, so I switched to evenings.
I also prefer evenings now because working out then helps me release any stress and anxiety that accumulated at work that day. Then I just sleep off any hunger that might occur (after having a healthy snack of fruit and lite cheese). |

| Weight Loss | Cellulite | Apr 13 2007 00:32 (UTC) |

| The more I work-out, the less I see it. Overall, I agree with anyone above who said there is little than can be done. You can shrink your fat cells, but unless you get lipo, you can't make then go away.
Cellulite has little to do with being big or small. There is an article in this month's Allure about people who are "skinny-fat" (skinny, but with a very high body fat percentage) and the author described a runway model who was stick thin, but "had cellulite on the back of her legs from her knee to her butt." I think most people have it. Keep yourself active and hydrated and try not to think too much about it. |

| Foods | What are some food products that have helped you lose/maintain weight? | Apr 12 2007 00:37 (UTC) |

| Tofu, bananas, apples, beans, low-carb whey protein shakes, and Egg Beaters.
I always have all of these on hand as they have all proven themselves worthy of keeping my belly satisfied. I have a big appetite and these foods have definitely made a difference for me. |

| Weight Loss | i just have to confess (binge/anorexia) | Apr 11 2007 05:49 (UTC) |

| Been there! You aren't alone. I've also eaten frosting out of a jar with a spoon and bought cake mix so I could eat the batter. Eep!
Same situation as you... could no longer starve, so things went in the opposite direction as my body tried to save its self. It's scary and therapy is the best way to overcome this monster. You deserve to be happy and not be consumed with thoughts of food. Eventually you learn to feel real hunger and fullness again. That was when I knew I was really getting better. Everyday is a struggle. Don't let it get the best of you! |

| Weight Loss | Looking Gaunt | Apr 11 2007 05:43 (UTC) |

| How many calories is that? I'm 105 pounds and 5'3 and I am sure I eat more than that daily.
You don't look like you need to lose any more weight, based on your pictures. How tall are you, what is your BMI, do you work out? Maybe you need to work on building more muscle rather than focusing on just losing weight. You can't control where you lose weight, and a lot of times the weight loss does occur in the facial features. From experience, though, my face gets gaunt looking when I'm not eating enough.... even when my butt still looks flabby to me. |

| I personally was never offered health benefits as a part-time employee of Starbucks.... I was told you had to work full-time to qualify.
I don't agree with a lot of the company policies, as I noted in my comment above, but the main reason I don't go there is because the prices are outrageous. I'm sorry, in the end, it's still just coffee and milk and, in some cases, obsene amounts of sugar and fat. None of those ingredients are expensive and yet the prices continue to rise. If it was expensive OR it was contributing to the downfall of a person's healthy-eating plan, it might be easier to justify. But both? Ugh. |

| Motivation | About to give up | Apr 10 2007 01:21 (UTC) |

| I haven't lost anything in 3+ weeks either. Sometimes it just moves slowly. Don't give up... think of it as your body testing you and your strength. This is just a little bump in the road. We will eventually get past it!
What helps me is not weighing myself. I keep everything else the same, but instead of weighing once a week, I weigh once every two weeks. My rate of weight loss lately has been around 1 pound every 2-3 weeks, but I haven't lost anything in the last 23 days. But I feel good, I don't feel hungry, and I'm not gaining. Sometimes it's good to maintain for a little while and let your body adjust. |

| hybrid~ are you able to fall asleep immediately? My Dad can do that and I know people can train themselves to do it. It's really good for you, cuz then you can take power naps. I'm a major overthinker and exercise is one of the only things that clears my mind and helps me relax.
~You should teach me! :-D |

| I have a problem with food and working out for two reasons: I feel much hungrier when I am regularly workng out and then I feel like I can justify splurging more. I'm trying to keep myself balanced and working out close to bedtime at night so I can just sleep it off. I have heard that working out at night makes it hard for some people to fall asleep, but it clears my head and actually makes it easier for me after a nice hot shower. | |||
| The Lounge | People can be rude | Apr 07 2007 05:30 (UTC) |
1 |
| That is really sad. I haven't noticed that specific thing with the door holding, but I do see a lot of similarly rude and insensitive things.
I have definitely experienced many members of the male sex who are much nicer to girls who are thin. When I was at my heaviest weight, which was 135 at 5'3, not that heavy in my opinion, guys at my high school were often rude and unpleasent to me. I actually had very high self-esteem and thought I was an attractive girl so I never really attributed it to my weight. Then my 2nd year in college I developed anorexia and my weight got down to 90 pounds. The same guys who were rude to me in high school were "nice" enough to tell me while I was lost in my ED that I looked much better at my new weight and that I was really chubby before. I find that those comments still haunt me, it's just really painful and people can be so careless with what they say. People need to be kinder to each other. Someone else commented that weight can always be lost, but you can't take back what you say. |
|||
| Weight Loss | I hate rude comments! | Apr 07 2007 01:48 (UTC) |
41 |
| When I was in high school, I was a late bloomer and when I finally did start developing, I gained around 10 pounds fairly quickly. I found a note that one of my "friends" had written my other friend and it said "she used to be so tiny and now she is 100% fat!" I didn't even think I was fat until reading that. I ended up thinning out toward the end of the year as my body adjusted, but I will never be able to forget that.
I am very sensitive about people calling other people fat. It is mean, but what bothers me the most is that it's not helpful at all and it leaves the person who was called fat feeling hopeless and depressed. I mean, in most cases I'm sure the person being called "fat" wants to lose weight and is aware of his or her size. Nothing anyone else says is because of you. They says things based on their own distorted reality. And a lot of times, people just don't think before they open their mouths. |

| Alayney, glad to hear you don't care. Why then, did you feel the need to defend yourself so forcefully and sarcastically? Inherently rude and negative people who lack empathy for others generally have insecurity issues with themselves. Does it make you feel in control to tell someone else they can't control themselves? Advising that "maybe everybody should beat themselves up" over food, and something that happened one time on one day? Seems ridiculous and extreme.
I would never go looking to read any of your comments since I don't find them useful. When we reply to the same threads, I'm forced to read them. Sensitivity and spinelessness have nothing to do with each other. Perhaps you should better define your insults before posting them. There are much more graceful ways of getting a point across than being contemptuous and rude. You obviously have a lot of drive and a lot of willpower if you do, in fact, practice what you rant about. But I still fail to see the point of trying to make people feel worse than they already do in a situation such as this. And for the record, no one who replied to this thread said "it's OK don't worry about it" and left it at that. With the exception of yours, the replies were constructive and supportive. One more thing, I particularly enjoyed YOUR overuse of capital letters and exclamation points (yea, clearly no determinable emotion there), the word "PUH-LEASE", and calling me a cry-baby at the end of your tantrum of a comment. I also liked how you went from saying that we were wrong in trying to decipher the feeling of your post, to later defending your rude tactics. It also interests me how, although you said yourself that feeling can't be shown through writing, you came to the conclusion that I am "ultrasensitive" and "a cry-baby." Seems like you'd have to determine a good deal of emotion to draw those conclusions. And as I said above, if writing can't portray how you are feeling, then why would you bother with all the capital letters, exclamation points, and blatant sarcasm? Your feelings of anger and contempt are very apparent, however, you're right; I usually fail to see any kindness or thoughtfulness in any of your posts....how odd. |

| Well... haha, I will tell you my experience from just last night and you can decide for yourself.
Started off the night two St. Pauli Girl beers, then had 3 vodka and sodas and two cigarettes, and then I was drunk. Then... my BF and I trotted over to good old 7-11 for a hotdog, a jalapeno stick, and a pita sandwich, all of which we share. Here's the best part, although it has little to do with diet: I woke up at 6am this morning on the couch, glasses on, jeans on, hoop earrings still in, gum in my mouth (miraculously not in my hair), and a burrito (untouched) with a packet of hot sauce sitting next to me. I went to McDonald's this morning for a sausage mcmuffin. I have to have Mickey-D's when I'm hungover. ~I don't do what I did last night that much anymore. In college it was a regular occurance. My opinion is that a night of drinking (which might lead to late-night eating) is OK once in a while. I am going to do double the amount of working out today, and then it's all just in the past. |

| Foods | What Do YOU Eat For Breakfast ? | Apr 06 2007 17:25 (UTC) |

| Today I had McDonalds, my trusty hangover cure. I had a sausage mcmuffin with no egg, a hashbrown, and a giant water (which I now need to refill).
On most days that I eat breakfast I have a Bally's Total Fitness Chocolate protein shake with 1/2 cup frozen blueberries blended in. Chocolate and blueberries are really yummy together. Although I try not to do mcdonalds breakfast too much, the one thing I really like is that it keeps me full for so long after because of all the fat and protein. I love mickey-d's... I could never completely quit it. |

| But you didn't eat the whole bag! You got rid of some of them before you could finish the bag. Small steps are the key to long term success.
~A note to Alayney: I find many of your comments, including this one, rude, condescending, and insensitive. Franky, Dr. Phil is a kitten compared to you. I believe being sensitive and understanding will do much more good than what you might consider "tough love." I personally would have felt much worse if I had posted this thread and found a reply such as yours. Your eating habits must be perfect, so I have to wonder what you are doing on CC...? Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but most of the comments I read from you are rude, in my opinion. ~ABecker: Today is just one day. Healthy eating is about compromise. Go for a long walk and get back on track tomorrow. |

| Weight Loss | i have a problem. i don't know what to do | Apr 06 2007 00:47 (UTC) |

| There are a number of people on this site, including myself, who are recovering from many different types of eating disorders. It sounds like you definitely have Body Dysmorphic Disorder, where you see yourself as being fatter than you are, and also issues with food as well.
I highly recommend speaking to a counselor. Therapy is usually necessary to help change your thinking habits about food. I am recovering from anorexia and therapy helped me to think about food less, see food as a source of nourishment and nothing else, and not use calorie counting as a way of controlling things I can't control. I went through a bad period where I was so starved that I couldn't help eating everything in sight. It was really scary, and I can't even imagine what anyone would have thought if they had seen me mid binge. The starve, binge, starve, binge pattern is very bad for your body and your mind. You will probably need help from an outside source to stop the vicious cycle. For a sedentary male, eating less than 1500 calories per day is considered starvation. ~You have no idea how much you are missing out on by letting this control your life. Keep a journal of how many times you think about calories, weight, or food throughout the day. You may not even be able to keep up with your thoughts, that was what happened to me and how I knew I had a serious problem. I suggest you talk to your parents, a doctor, and/or a nutritionist. |

| Limit your sodium intake. This will help you de-puff and make muscular areas look defined.
You are adorable! And you look to be at a healthy-thin weight. Don't lose too much weight... focus on eating natural foods instead of junk, limit sodium as much as possible, drink as much H2O as possible, and eat lots of bananas and asparagus. These foods naturally have a way of flushing out excess salt and bloat. |

| Weight Loss | I lost 17 pounds in 5 weeks. Is it too slow? | Apr 06 2007 00:30 (UTC) |
4 |
| No, it's not too slow at all! In fact, it seems to me like you are in the phase right now where the weight just flies off. 17 pounds in 5 weeks is well above average.
The slower you lose, the better your body adjusts, and the easier it will be to keep the weight off in the long run. |

| Weight Loss | Eating for the sake of eating? | Apr 05 2007 23:10 (UTC) |

| I am inclined to have this problem so lately I have been consciously working on it. I eat dessert everyday, so now I am experimenting with buying my dessert early in the day and carrying it around with me, but planning to not eat it until after dinner around 7pm. I'm getting much more used to not feeling like I have to rush to eat something just because it's there.
If you buy treats for you and your friends, you will still get to eat some even if you don't open the bag right away. You'll feel better opening the bag with your friends and sharing it then rather than passing around a half-eaten bag that you have already started in on. I totally understand what you are saying. For me, the ugly habit of having to eat stuff immediately started when I was beginning my recovery from anorexia. It was almost like I was afraid that the food would disappear if I didn't eat it right away. I also wanted to be sure to eat it all while no one else was around. Now, I know I will feel better if I can: 1) Wait and have a treat when I really want and deserve it. 2) Share it with another person. I eat less and feel caring and generous, a feeling much better than full and guilty. ~Good luck! Getting over our little vices is part of the process. |

| Weight Loss | only losing inches around waist-nowhere else. Why??? | Apr 05 2007 18:53 (UTC) |
2 |
| I have a very thin waist naturally with a figure that is in between hourglass and pear, so I definitely understand where you are coming from.
What works best for me is doing cardio that really works my leg and butt muscles such as stairstepping or jogging at an incline, and then focusing on strength training my upper body with push-ups and dumbell lifting. This keeps my body looking very proportional. |

| I worked for Starbucks and now hate going there just based on my experience working there.
For the amount of crap knowledge the employees have to learn, and the time they spend on their feet, they are very very underpaid. This is especially true considering the price of the drinks (coffee, sugar, and milk are not expensive ingredients). At the branch I worked at, the back kitchen always smelled like rotten milk. It was disgusting. Most people who worked there didn't regularly wash their aprons, so that means they would touch old milk and coffee on their dirty apron and then make people's drinks (I am compulsively clean, so I didn't fall into this category). And my favorite reason to limit your 'buck's habit: they put little mom and pop coffee shops out of business everyday :*( My home town is a very small town with some cute little privately owned coffee shops. Many people protested when they wanted to build a Starbucks, but up it went anyway. The little shops and their owners are now suffering. I guess that's business, but it just feels wrong to me. |

| The Lounge | Stupid question - dress size | Apr 05 2007 00:13 (UTC) |

| Yea, it's weird and annoying. But what really annoys me is that sizes aren't standardized. One brand's size 3/4 can be another brand's 7/8 and another brand's 1/2. I find that irritating, especially since I love online shopping and hate trying things on. | |||
