| Foods | What to put on my salad...hmm... | May 11 2008 04:26 (UTC) |

Here is a salad I love and only have as a complete meal. Mixed springs and spinach; 81 grams grilled chicken; 15 grams of chopped roasted macadamian nuts; 121 grams of grilled pineapple chunks; 14 grams of shredded parmesam cheese; topped with 30 grams of Ken's Litehouse Honey Mustard Dressing. I measure everything, so I use grams, it's easier than ounces on the scale. In a bowl, lay out the mixed greens; then in a skillet roast the nuts, then place on greens. Now add the chicken, once cooked place on greens. While the skillet is still hot, place the pineapple in, turn off the heat and cover until fruit is warmed; place on top of chicken. Sprinkle with cheese and dressing. For the chicken, I use the pre-cooked packaged chicken. Total calories is 405 and it's very filling. (I always use a large bowl, and place a lot of greens first.) It is awesome! It will knock anyone's socks off. |

To help relieve shin splints or to help prevent them, after you do you calf stretches (keep the foot tilted), bend the knee and it will stretch the shins. I do this every time I run, walk, or do any type of cardio. Best wishes! |

| Foods | Eating until full.... | May 11 2008 04:13 (UTC) |

I've always had the same problem, so to help I allow myself a full serving of what ever I'm fixing. I plan ahead what I'll be eating, keep it balanced, then only fill my plate with what I can eat. I can't do the leave some on your plate, thing, so I only put on what i can eat. It is very satisfying to know I can clean my plate without the guilt. I have a meat, veggie, and starch, and even bread sometimes. My bread, if it's a buscuit, I cut in half to think I can have 2 pieces instead of just 1. I measure everything for 1 full serving, then enjoy. I also log everything into calorie count so I can see if possible, I could have seconds. Sometimes I can based on what I've eaten that day. Sorry to make this long! Best wishes! |

| Weight Loss | scared of losing weight? | May 06 2008 18:05 (UTC) |

I have the same stats; I'm 5'7"; I started at 197 and have lost 26 lbs since Feb 08. My goal is 145, which is right in the middle for my build. According to all the charts I've found, the ideal weight for my height is between 135-160. Your goal of 148 is right on, don't worry so much about the numbers; if you're happy with how you look and feel; what does it really matter. Continue to eat healthy and your body will settle itself out at what ever weight it should be. Best wishes! |

It helps your body to rejuvinate and stabilize. It's not good to keep it going w/o rest. Your body needs to rest; so, take a day off and rest, even God rested a day. |

I know this is a day late; but Jack in the Box has an awesome Chicken Fajita Pita sandwich and it's only 300 cal; with a cup of fruit, and I add a 100 cal pack of chips. It's a great meal. |

The only remedy is delivery! LOL Unfortunately, I went through the same thing, my sweeling finally went down about a month after I had my son. I drank water all the time, and tried to limit my salt, but it didn't do any good, I was still swelling in my hands and my feet. Some women are just more proned to sweeling than others. I found relief for my feet with my combat boots (I'm in the military.) I hated my feet being out of them, b/c they would hurt more outside the boots than in. Best wishes and congrats! |

Just stick to your guns; eventually you will win. It will take time, he is determining boundaries, and now is the time to set them. Don't give in now, it will be even harder to break later on. So, stick with it. When my son did this, I would do this, I would remind him the first time, that it was bed time. Every time after that I would say nothing, and just put him back in bed. It took about a week to get him to actually stay in his room, but it worked. So, stick with it, and best wishes. :-) |

Don't be too discouraged! Sounds like you're doing everything right, keep it up. I would just make one suggestion, weigh in after your day off, so water weight won't be too much a factor as if you weigh in after a large workout. Best wishes! |

| missykris1: if you stay consistant then you should see results of 1-2 lbs a week; keeping your calories at a reasonable intake.
Without knowing your numbers, its hard to say what your calorie intake should be to loose with the exercise you have.
Best wishes in everything, and be encouraged! :-) |

| Weight Loss | My doctor said he wants me to maintain, then after a while lose again how long do I maintain? | Apr 24 2008 18:37 (UTC) |

I am in a similar situation; I started in Feb, and lost 24 lbs in less than 3 months. I now want to maintain for about a month to allow my body to stabilize. By doing so you will increase your chances of successfully keeping it off in the end. Allowing your body to stabilize and allowing you to get some what of a break from the "diet" world and relax a little. Also, this will shake up your body and the results will amaze you. Keep focused and stay on track; continue to exercise, and eat at maintenance calories for about 2 months, then start back to your lossing calories. Best wishes. |

What are you doing and what are your numbers? I would like to encourage you to keep up and stay on track. The pay out in the end will be worth it. I started 4 Feb 08, and have lost 24 lbs so far. I started at 197, I'm 5'7", and I'll tell ya, there are days where I feel like eating a house; but I don't. Staying focused it the hardest part, even after 3 months, it's hard. Stay with it and best wishes. |

| Weight Loss | Biggest Loser?? | Apr 23 2008 21:23 (UTC) |

The more weight you have to loose, the more you will lose. Keep in mind they train/exercise 4-6 hrs a day, they only have to workout all day long. (I beleive they only take 1 day off.) The average person who works, or even stay at home only works out about 2 hrs a day, maybe 3x a week. (Some less than that.) 1 lb = 3500 cal; so to lose 1 lb, you must burn 3500 cal. Just remember that your body needs a specific amount of fuel to thrive, so ensure you are taking in at least 1200 calories of food, w/o counting the exercise. So if you burn 500, you should eat at least 1700 calories. Best wishes. |

| If you're going to try videos, there is a yoga video that moms and kids can do together, kids age 3-6, and I'd bet your son would love the time together. Then when he goes down for a nap, you do a more intense workout.
I'm looking forward to starting that video with my son, he's only 2, but he tries to do yoga with me now, so it should be a ton of fun when I do start. However, my sister and her son does it, and they love it! (That's where I got the idea from.) Best wishes! |

| The best advice is to find a healthy diet and exercise regiment for life. Diets in and of themsleves are no good; but finding a way to eat healthy for life is the best way to go.
The definition of diet is essentialy the way you eat; therfore find a way that's healthy and right for you.
Best wishes! :-) |

Leave the scale alone for about 2 weeks, or at least only once a week; checking everyday will drive you crazy, due to water fluctuating. Your body is changing as it loses weight, so what it did 20 lbs ago, will be different now that you're 20 lbs lighter. (just a guess on the weight, if more WTG!) My suggestion, fluctuate your calories each day, it will average out for the week; then check your weight every 2 weeks, instead of everyday. If you have to check it more often, try to keep it at once a week. BTW, I've lost over 25lbs so far since Feb by fluctuating my calories and I check my weight only once a week, so I don't drive myself crazy with the numbers game. Best wishes! |

I use a slim fast shake to help start my mornings; I can't actually eat anything when I wake up, so a shake is perfect. My breakfast takes me 4 hours to eat and here's why: I start around 630 w/ a shake, then an hour or so later a yogurt, and another hour later a banana, then an hour or so later my lunch. This way I keep my metabolism going w/o getting bogged down with having to eat a traditional breakfast. It is also something I can incorporate into my life, not just for the duration of me loosing weight. Best wishes for you in whatever you decide to do. :-) |

Definately step away from the scale long enough to allow your body to balance out. I weigh every Monday at the same time to ensure an accurate reading, and it's after my day off. I feel it works better; once I get to a certain point, I will weigh every 2 weeks. I have lost 18 lbs so far since 4 Feb 08; so don't panic, it will all work out in the end. Take care, have fun and best wishes in your endeavors! :-) |

Kraft now makes a new pudding cup that is only 45 cal; it's sugar free and it's great. I slice up fresh strawberries (200 grams for 60 cal)and dip them in the chocolate pudding for a chocolate covered strawberry treat! Totals about 105 cal. |

| Weight Loss | Is it ok to.... | Mar 28 2008 14:42 (UTC) |

By not eating every few hours, you could actually be sabotaging your efforts; your body needs fuel to run and keep your metabolism up and running. By starving your body for 8 hrs, and yes by not eating anything for 8 hrs is starving your body, your body could go into panic mode and actually hold onto food storage and do the exact opposite of what you want to achieve. Your body needs a consistant amount of food so it can run continuously. Try to pack small snacks for during the day, to eat before and after your workouts. This way you will still be fueling your body and it won't think you're starving it. Best wishes! |

My after dinner snack consists of about 200 grams of strawberries (60 cal) and a Kraft snack pack sugar-free chocloate pudding cup (45 cal). All in all is only 105 cal total; and I dip the strawberries in the pudding to give a chocolate covered strawberry dessert. I love it!!! :-) |

Be very careful of trying to loose too quickly; the quicker you lose it, the quicker you gain it back. If you just eat healthy and exercise, the weight will come off and you will stand a better chance of keeping it off. Best wishes to you! |

| I would first like to encourage each and every one to stick with "What works for you"! Unfortunately, we live in a society that when you are doing better than someone else, they will try and take an opportunity to knock you down beneath them; whether they realize it or not. So, when someone offers you a treat, and you turn it down, and they proceed to comment further, that's their frustration at your self control. It's not personal to you, it's their own self struggle; so take it as a compliment, and pray for that individual to get a handle on their struggles. I commend each one of you for sticking to your own boundaries, and understanding your selves enough to establish that control. Awesome job! Way to Go! :-) | |||

jakshops, your numbers look good; keep a day or 2 at 1000 or even 1100, then a couple of days at 1300 or 1400. This will keep your body in shock so it won't hit a plateau. Use this link to find out more about zig zagging http://www.diet-blog.com/archives/2006/02/27/ 5_ways_to_break_a_weight_loss_plateau.php I have used zig zag method for the past 6 weeks, and I've lost 17lbs; I'm 5'7", started at 197 the begining of Feb 08, now I'm down to 180. God's speed in your endeavors, my prayers are with you. |

| Fitness | I can run! | Mar 19 2008 15:41 (UTC) |

hovermoyer, try getting on a treadmill and do different intervals. Start at 3, for 1 min, then 4 for a min then 5 for 30 sec; then drop to 3 for 3 mins, and go up again for as long as you can go. Do this until you can do 5 for an entire min, then start at 4 and go up to 6, and keep increasing. Before long, you'll be running with no problems. If you don't have a treadmill, do sprints around the block, start walking fast, then jog, then run as fast as you can, then start the process over just like on the treadmill. Try to keep moving for at least 20 mins to start and work yourself into doing 30 - 45 mins after you're more comfortable running. For the dry mouth, be sure to drink plenty of water before you plan to run, if you are drinking plenty, then try chewing a piece of gum while you run, this will keep your mouth wet (Extra gum only has 5 cal a stick). God's speed in your endeavor, and my prayers are with you. |
