Weight Loss Why isn't low carb working? Jan 31 2009

Thanks so much for everyone's responses!

Right now, I'm only eating 1200-1300 calories per day and I know I burn more than that at my job (I'm a teacher and I NEVER sit down between 7am and 3pm) and working out in the evenings.

Yesterday, my food analysis said I ate 45.1% fat, 48.2% protein, and 6.8% carbs which gave me 1237 calories altogether.  I had a piece of string cheese on my way to a meeting for breakfast, had a salad with grilled chicken and ranch dressing for lunch, and a combination of what was left from dinner from the last couple nights... a few bites of tilapia and some homemade fajitas.  Later in the night, I ate about a 1/4 cup of unsalted almonds.  I don't drink, so the alcohol isn't a problem for me.

My dad mentioned something about his weight loss slowing whenever he ate nuts, has anyone else had this problem?  He's convinced that fiber shouldn't cancel out your carbs, and if that's true, are there any other foods I should be avoiding because fiber doesn't really cancel out carbs?

One thing I think was helpful for me last year was to make sure that I always put my food on a plate then went over to the TV to eat it.  By putting it on a plate, I could see exactly what I was eating.  By moving away from the food to eat I didn't get the urge to stand and snack for a long time.
