I understand exactly what you are saying.  I need to lose 15-20lbs but my husband needs to lose possibly 80lbs.  I have been with him for 21 years and love him to death but I am so concerned about his weight on so many different levels.  The main one being health.  His father died at the age of 58 from a massive heart attack and he was overweight and smoked.  Just like my husband.  I literally feel sick to my stomach thinking that my husband has the same fate.  I thought that when his dad died, it would be a huge wakeup call but it wasn't.

As for sabotaging my diet, it is very hard.  My husband loves to cook and is extremely good at it and unfortunately it's all pretty unhealthy stuff.  Now that I am serious about losing 20 lbs I am able to exhibit self control and I allow myself to indulge 1 day a week eating "bad" for you food.

I just find it very frustrating that here I am, trying to lose 20lbs and working hard to achieve this goal and he won't try to lose anything at all.  It truly scares me that I will be a young widow.

You can count me in!!! I am in desperate need to lose 20 lbs.  I am 5'3 and currently weigh 145.  Just gained 5 lbs over the the last 4 weeks and I do not want to keep the numbers climbing!!! Like you, I need daily motivation otherwise I am not motivated!!  I will be sure to weigh in on Friday's.  I think it's a great day to weigh in as it will keep us honest over the weekend :)

I must admit that my weakness right now is empty calories, especially alcohol!! It's the summer I there is always a party where drinks run freely.

Good luck todeinotaton and all everyone else participating in this group!!

I've been pretty successful keeping off the 10 lbs I lost over the last 6 months, now it's time to tackle the next 10.  I would love to hear any suggestions to kick start the next 10.  I have just started back with Calorie-Count after being away for 3 months.  I always find the summer a difficult time to lose as there are so many BBQ's and alcoholic bevs (LOL) to contend with.  I weigh 141 and would love to get to 125!

I struggle with the whole eating healthy thing because it is absolutely more expensive to eat that way.  Lean cuts of meat are definitely more expensive as are vegetables.  As a family we spend about $150.00 a week on groceries and that is probably conversative.  With watching what I eat, I always find that I am always running to the grocery store to pick up that "healthy item" that I forgot thus increasing the grocery budget.  I am constantly wondering where all of our money goes and then when I do an "audit" I can see that the grocery store is certainly eating away most of our money!

OMG,yesterday I blew it big time.  It's thanksgiving here so of course I had to prepare a big meal, have several drinks and desert to boot.  My calorie intake was double what it normally is.  I actually went to bed with a really bad stomach ache as I guess my stomach has shrunk and was shocked by the amount of food/drink I consumed.  Today I am going to another thanksgiving dinner but I will definitely not indulge as much as I did yesterday.  You are right though, we shouldn't be consumed with guilt when we indulge.  Once in a while shouldn't be a crime!!

Hi Shakti, great questions!! Here I go.....

1.  Definitely easier for me to exercise than follow a strict diet.  I have the benefit of being a stay-home mom with both my children in school all day so I have the time to exercise.  This is going to change shortly though as I am going back to work this week so I imagine time is going to be limited and I will have to start concentrating more on my food programme!

2.  The only program I have tried in the past was e-diet.com and found it didn't really work.  I haven't really struggled with weight in the past but I would say the 20 lbs. have quietly snuck up on me in the last 3 years so I am definitely in "freaking-out" mode right now and ready to do something about it.  I absolutely love C-C.com and feel it's really going to help me lose those pounds.

3.  I am a total cardio girl.  I was a runner throughout my teen years and I love the "high" you get from cardio.  I must say though the results you get from weight training are awesome and I am trying to incorporate some weight training into my routine.  I also love doing squats and lunges as they give great results.

4.  In a perfect world I would absolutely love to have a chef to cook me wonderful, low-cal meals and I would get all my exercise through enjoyable activities such as mountain climbing, kayaking, etc.

5.  You and I are one the same page when it comes to barriers.  I am the queen of self-sabotage and whenever things start to get good, I somehow manage to blow it.  I also find that I push myself way to hard and then end up resenting the hard work so I just give up.

6.  I really think the reason I have gained 20 lbs over the last few years is simple.... lack of self-discipline.  Also I found that after turniing 35, pounds were just so much more difficult to get rid of.  I have to realize I can't eat like I did when I was 20!

Thxs for the info athena_tavener.  I just have so much trouble wrapping my head around the theory of eating more to lose weight.  I have seen this in many posting before and want to try it but am afraid I'll just gain.  I will give it a try though.

I totally understand what you are saying.  For the past month I have been consistently working out, watching everything I put in my mouth (I pretty much bring in 1500 cal. a day) and I have not seen a budge on the scale.  In fact I am up a couple of pounds.  I have lost an inch all over but it is so incredibly frustrating when you work so hard and don't see any results on the scale.  I know that the scale is not the only way to gage weight loss but we are so conditioned to go by what that darn number says!

Also, remember skinny doesn't mean healthy.  It is really important to work out as it is sooooo good for the heart.  It is also great for the mind as it helps release all those "good" feeling chemicals in your body that makes you feel on top of the world!

I totally relate to how you feel and unfortunately when I start to feel tired and down, I eat!!!!  Now that I have started C-C, I think my mindset will be a little different as I now have you all to be accountable to!!!  I know that getting out for a powerwalk always boosts my mood, it's a struggle to get going but once you do you will feel better! You have done fantastic though librarygirl.  You really are right on target and should feel extremely proud of your accomplishments!!!

Hey, don't beat yourself up over it.  We all set ourselves back once in a while.  As long as it doesn't become a weekly habit.  I love my wine but I really feel that has contributed to my weight gain so I have definitely brought it down a notch.  I still enjoy it but in moderation.

I would ideally like to weigh 120lbs but my goal weight is between 125-128 for now as I think that is ambitous enough.  That leaves me with losing 18 lbs!!! I am committed and determined.  I would like to lose 10lbs by Christmas.  I chose this weight as I weighed this pretty much up until I had my children.

You can also use "light" cream.  It has only 20 calories per  tablespoon.  Slowly cut your sugar down and you will eventually get use to it.

Hey Canadian Chick, welcome to Ontario.  I have lived here all my life and love it.  It you get a chance you should do some hiking up North.  It's extremely beautiful.  I understand what you are talking about regarding the ladies at the school.  I just moved to the town I live in last summer and it took almost the whole school year for the other mom's to start talking to me!!! Don't give up, they will come around!!  Good luck with your bowling.  It's a great way to meet new people!  I will add you to my friends list and if you ever have any questions about Ontario, feel free to ask!!

Geo, I understand exactly what you are saying.  I am 40 and still feel I should be as strong as I was when I was 20!!  Mentally I feel this way and think I can accomplish anything I set my mind to but my body is screaming at me at times to slow down!!  I get out there and play basketball or football with my teenage son and after awhile he wants to stop yet I feel I could go on forever!  I really do have a huge problem with this whole age process and slowing down!

Cheers, goldwray
