Congrats on the 71lb loss...what an accomplishment!! I'm where you're at except that I've been on this plateau for six weeks so far(the longest plateau I've ever been on) and am about to give up. I've only lost 34lbs in the last 8months and have gone from working out 4x a week to now 2x a week. I feel like I'm on the verge of giving up altogether. What's even more discouraging is that I was just diagnosed with a stomach ulcer and the meds I'm taking make me hungrier than normal. I feel like I get in control of things but that TTOM comes around and all that hard work just went to waste.

Sorry, I know you asked for success stories and strategies but I can relate, I'm going through it right now.

I used to run track in high school which I think has attributed to my calves and thighs always being shapely. I gain muscle easily and those are the first parts that get muscular quick. Now 20 years later, I've started running again and am up to 3.5 miles...I've forgotten how it helps you lose weight all over, at least for me. Have you noticed that all runners are always so slim?

Thanks guys... it's reassuring to read/know that I'm not alone on the weight increase.  I've been beating myself up over it because I've been up 4lbs for the last two weeks now. It doesn't help that I've kinda slacked off on the healthy eating, too. Over the entire last weekend I ate pepperoni and sausage pizza, chocolate covered almonds, a big ole' juicy cheeseburger with fries... I felt horrible afterwards but did it again this past weekend. I went to the movies and ate buttered movie popcorn, the next day I ate Carl's Jr. with onion rings, and yesterday ate fried chicken. I'm just getting out of control and I need to snap myself out of eating this fatty-food junk.

On the upside, I still hit the gym and did my cardio and strength-training 4x/week....and drank my 80oz of water. But it still doesn't justify my horrible eating.

Hi there

I'm 5'6", medium build, now at 153lbs....started at 187lbs back in September. I zig-zag my calories between 1340 - 1840 a week which counts for my workouts 4x a week, too. So, I don't include my calories back in. I've managed to lose 34 lbs since starting back in Sept. '06.

1.  How young are you? oh, 30-something ...okay, I'm 37.

2.  Favourite healthy meal? roasted lemon pepper chicken with rice and veggies

3.  Most embarrassing moment?!! The one that comes to mind was the day of my bridal shower. Let me first start off by saying that I absolutely fear bugs. My shower was held outdoors in a garden setting and everyone had just been seated to eat. Out of nowhere this huge Japanese beetle comes flying right toward me. I try to move my chair back to make a bee-line towards the front, the chair gets caught on the grass and I fall back with the chair and my plate of food flies along with me. We coudn't stop laughing for days. It was even caught on video.

4.  Married/divorced/single/single parent? Married.

5.  Favourite piece of clothing? My 'smaller' size skinny jeans with my red steve madden wedge sandals.

6.  Favourite TV show? Dancing with the Stars and American Idol

7.  Favourite alcohol drink, if any? None, I don't drink.

8.  What keeps you busy during the day? Work, work and come home to more work...oh plus the gym, of course.

9.  Favourite candy as a child! Sugar Babies

10. What do you want to be when you grow up? "I don't want to grow up, I'm a Toys-R-Us kid....."

Weight Loss blackouts Mar 20 2007

I get that, too. I was told by my doctor a few years ago when I was diagnosed with Vertigo that I tend to get up too fast therefore resulting in blackouts. When that starts to happen I have to stop what I'm doing, close my eyes and take a deep breath. We're living in such a fast-paced society, that sometimes we just need to take our time in doing things...even if it's something as simple as getting up.

When I started I zig-zagged between 1350-1700 calories a day and exercise 4x a week. I started by walking for 10minutes then jogged for 10min for a total of 30minutes...then I'd do strength training for another 30minutes. I also allow myself a maintenance day on the weekends where I'm not so particular about my intake. Hope that helps.

I started out at 187lb back in September when I joined C-C and have lost 30lbs to date. I most definitely agree that you should eat the amount of calories you burn through exercise. That could be the reason for the plateau. Or try zig-zagging your calories each day.

I'm still hovering in between 160-163....again. It seems that when I got down to 160, TTOM rolled around again and I'm back up to 163. AHHHH!! Oh so frustrating.

Yes, good luck to all...slowly but surely we'll get there.

First of all, congrats on the 60lb. loss...what an accomplishment. I've been feeling the same way lately. I know we can and will get thru this. Just know you're not alone on this. In fact, this is what I've written in my journal: (sorry it's lengthy)

I've been doing so well up until this last month. Before, during and after the weeks following TTOM for me, I've been on this total eating binge and I can't seem to stop .  I'm really good about planning out my meals the night before, but somehow I've lost total control of my so-called 'lifestyle change'. There's days where things go well and according to plan but then I'll give in to the sweet or salt craving and totally mess everything up. The only thing I am maintaining is my workouts so its no surprise to me that I haven't lost. I've been eating at maintenance almost every other day and especially on the weekends for the last month....and bad stuff, too.....ice cream, snickers, kit kat, hamburgers, fries, chips, good ole' greasy fried chicken, old fashioned buttermilk thick pancakes, more ice cream, more snickers etc. the list goes on. I tell myself, I'm gonna have a hard workout, I'll make up for those extra calories and that I'll start fresh the next day and then I go crazy again. AHHHH! Help....I feel like I'm spinning out of control. And I don't want to get back up where I was before.

Maybe I'm just neurotic because lately I've been meeting up with old friends who have taken notice of my weight loss (but I'm only half-way to my goal) and they comment how this is the smallest they ever remember me being....so maybe I'm finding a reason to eat???? Oh, I don't know. I do know for certain that I need to get a grip and get back in control of eating right. Lately it just seems that all that good stuff doesn't satisfy my taste buds. I want the taste of chocolate candy, mocha almond fudge ice cream, french fries with a side of ranch dressing for dipping....pizza. How sad that would be if I were to go back to my old eating habits and everything I accomplished to get half way to goal all goes down the drain.

Thank you everyone for posting your comments. Now I know I'm not alone on this. I've been on this eating binge for about a month now and have lost all control of my so-called "life-style change". It was before, during and weeks after TTOM for me when it all started and hasn't stopped yet. I'm half-way to my goal and don't want to go back up to where I started....but I feel like all the healthy stuff just doesn't satisfy my taste buds anymore. Don't get me wrong, before this happened, I didn't deprive myself of things I craved, but just in moderation. Lately, all the sweet and salty things is what I've binged on. Every other day I've been eating at my maintenance calories....especially on weekends. Sorry, I know this is lengthy, but I'm glad someone started  a thread on this topic. It helps to know I will and can get thru this.

How about people at the gym, who obviously, have really poor hygiene and totally 'stank' ( working out right next to you - to make it worse) that makes you want to just gag and vow not to over-eat again. And like someone else's post said that the smell just stays within your nose. Eugh!! Gross!

Me, too...I'm still here. This past month has been horrific for me. When it was TTOM for me I binged before, during and weeks after and haven't stopped yet. I'm still at 163lb....I was at 165lb but knew it was from all the sodium .... was hoping to be in the high 150's by now..hope to get back on track soon.
Weight Loss Activity Log Question Feb 06 2007
23:18 (UTC)
Hi there,

I have the same problem when it comes to logging calories burned from exercise therefore I manually enter my info as well. I also do strength training after my cardio workout and have no clue how many calories that burns so I go with what this site tells me. For me, I think it actually low-balls it for me as far as strength training calories are concerned...but as long as I have my deficit of around 500-1000 cal/day, I'm okay with that.

Hi all...I'm still here, too. My first post on this thread was earlier in the month and I was at 167lbs. I'm happy to report that I'm at 163lbs. now My official weigh-in is tomorrow so hopefully I'll be down another lb or two. It's TTOM for me so we'll see how things go tomorrow. Slowly but surely inching my 'weigh' down to get to my goal.

High blood pressure runs in my family, too but thank God I'm not really a salt person. To answer your question about sodium intake, I've read from many different posts here that we should keep our intake to less than 2500 mg of sodium/day. Welcome to C-C and best of luck on your weight loss journey.

I agree with hk. It may sound good but, personally, I think I'd be setting myself up for failure. Eating an average of the two on a daily basis would seem the healthiest way to lose and keep it off permanently. I'd be afraid that after taking myself off that particular diet, my weight would skyrocket.

Weight Loss Confused Jan 11 2007
21:18 (UTC)
When I first started back in September I was thoroughly confused about this same topic. What I've learned by reading different posts and also by my own trial and error....if you're activity level is set to 'sedentary' than you would eat whatever amount of calories you burned thru exercise to make up for the loss thru it. If it's set at anything other than sedentary, then you don't add the exercise because it's already accounted for...you'd be double dipping. Hope that helps and makes sense.
Foods apple question Jan 10 2007

I wasn't really an apple eater until a friend introduced me to the Honeycrisp apples. They're really hard to find though (or at least where I live they are)...so I've taken a liking to Pink Lady's...both really crisp and juicy. I don't like soft apples either.
Weight Loss What is your clothes size now? Jan 10 2007
19:27 (UTC)

Started out a size 16 and now down to a size 9. I currently own only one pair of size 9's because last year I invested in all these 12's that are baggy on me but still wear them anyways. I thought once I reached a size 9 I'd be at my goal weight, but I still have 28lbs. more to go..so who knows what size that'd be. I'd like to sell my clothes that no longer fit....they're all business professional...someone started a thread about that several months back...don't know what ever became of that. If I can get lower than a size 9, that'd be the smallest I've been since high school.....like 20 years ago. Yikes!

I started here Sep 26, '06 and have lost 20lbs to date....I'm aiming to lose @ another 30lbs. to reach my goal. I'd like to lose it all by July (being our wedding anniversary and we'll be celebrating it with a trip to Hawaii)..but if not...no big deal. As long as I stay focused and on track, I'll lose.

BTW, welcome to C-C. This site has a wealth of info.
