| Maybe you should do yourself a favor and scan the other threads so you can see there are definitely 'haters' among us. I'm not here to argue or to say you are wrong and I am right. I'm only here to state the facts when it comes to my story.
However, I see your point of view and it is well taken. It is obvious to me that this type of diet is the road less traveled when it comes to weight loss. I started my journey in May of 06. More than 2 yrs later I am almost 200 lbs lighter and healthier than ever according to my physician who can't believe what I've done. This is not a 'fad diet' for me. It was a way to change my life. I eat healthier, I exercise, and I'm ever conscious of my eating habits. My situation was probably more extreme than most. I wasn't your average Joe who wanted so desperately to lose 10 or 20 lbs. I needed to lose 250lbs. And you know what?? I'm going to get there. I'd say less than 1% of those who take on the same challenge as I have actually succeed. I'm going to make my mark. TOOT!!! TOOT!!! (that was me tootin' my own horn!) |

| Wow. It's been a long time since I've been here. Looks like there is still some interest in Z. That's good because those of us who are on it aren't dead! Imagine that! I thought I would be malnurished and without brain and heart function by the way everyone was talking. WRONG! bigloser126 is now bigloser188! Lowest weight to date is 253 down from 441 lbs. You do the math! Let's see...here are some stats: -Down 18 inches in my waist (56 to 38) -Down 18 inches in my chest (66 to 48) -Can run a mile in under 8 mins (used to couldn't walk a mile without stopping) This is a big accomplishment for me. -I can bench press 340lbs so obviously I haven't lost any muscle I still have weight to lose but I'm well on my way. The best part is I just got married and now I can enjoy a long life with my true love. Thanks to all of the haters out there. It makes me try harder. I'm sorry if you can't lose the weight fast and healthy. Maybe you should try something else. Thanks be to God! Daniel |

| ezinger25--I wish you the VERY best on your journey to lose weight. When I decided to REALLY lose weight I weighed in at 441lbs. I had already lost some weight by then and I'm sure I was well over 450 at some point in time. That was in May 2006. Today, I'm down to 265lbs so I've lost at least 176 countable lbs. It can be done with effort and motivation and you will feel so much better it'll make you want to keep going. I still want to lose at least 50 more and then see what happens from there. Diet, exercise, and committment will get you to your goal. Stick to it and good luck! | |||

| Good luck everyone on losing that weight. It can definitely be done. When I started my diet earlier this year I was at 441 and am currently down to 273 (male, 6'0, large frame build). I want to get to 215 (maybe lower) so I've got a few more pounds to lose. But, if I can lose it anyone can! Keep at it! | |||

| First of all THANK YOU VERY MUCH to everyone! I just wanted to celebrate my current success and I appreciate your celebration with me.
Second of all, I don't want this thread to turn into a p*ssing match. I am well aware that many people on this board do not approved of the diet I am on. It might be pretty safe to say that those who do not approve of my approach to losing weight have never been 260+ lbs overweight. With that being said, the diet/exercise program I am on has worked wonders for me. If you would like specific info regarding my approach to weight loss please click on my profile and send an email. I'll be glad to discuss it with you, even those who don't agree! rz907: You should not doubt my dear friend. I've lost 142lbs since May 06 and I DID not have gastric bypass or cut off any limbs! It's amazing what you can do with the right motivation and support. Believe it my friend! I have pics to prove it! Love to all! Daniel |

| Well I'm glad to see some civilty. First of all, Dr. Hopkins is out of town to his sister's wedding (He emailed me this morning). So, he will continue to be elusive until he returns so I wouldn't expect a reply until next week from him.
Second of all, I appreciate what you guys and gals are trying to do. I mean, everyone should take a logical approach to anything they do, right? Just so happens I didn't do that because of the situation I was in. I was heavy enough that I could've dropped dead at any moment with a heart attack or any other various medical condition. So, I'm taking my chances on this diet to get back into a healthy weight range. I'd rather take my chances on this diet than on something that would not motivate me to continue. I'll be glad to update you guys in the upcoming months with my progress and any side effects that may pop up in the future. For now, I don't have anymore information to give so I'm gonna let it rest. Thanks again. Daniel |

| Can somebody please tell me what is the difference between me eating 600 calories per day or getting gastric bypass surgery? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?????!?!?!?!?!?! People get surgery all the time and they live and are healthier. They follow a very low calorie diet because they are forced to. How many gastric bypass patients do you see just withering away and dying because of what they've done? That would be ridiculous and completely contrary to the whole point of the surgery. I'm following a VLCD because I choose to. NO ONE HAS ANSWERED THIS QUESTION.
Greg- You might as well save your breath. It's very obvious that we are the dumbest people on this site if you haven't figured that out yet. Good luck bro and I'll drop in and check you out before long. Daniel |

| Watergirl, I understand your train of thought. However, each and every person who has posted about the Z diet is an actual individual. Dodgeman works for the Dodge dealership here in Bowling Green. Call and ask for Greg in finance and you'll talk to Dodgeman. I work for US Bank here in Bowling Green as a Mortgage Originator. Zauthor is Dr. Hopkins and he is retired from his practice. This is not a marketing ploy. We are just fellow Z participants trying to give our side of the story (to the best of my ability). It kind of stinks when you see something you support getting bashed. That's all. No harm no foul and I accept your apology. Thanks!

| No, I cannot answer those questions. Yes, I've read the book but I don't have the answers to your questions. I didn't develop the diet I'm only following by the guidelines set forth in the program. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I'll let Dr. Hopkins know there are some questions for him and see if he can shed some light. Thanks!

| Just because my profile is inactive doesn't mean I'm not a real person. Geez guys, give us a chance to figure this stuff out. I signed up the same Day Dr. Hopkins did because he's the one that let me know about the initial thread that started the Z Diet attack. I'll be glad to have some friends on here. Don't hate me because I'm on this diet! I'm really a nice guy!

| 2. My friend had gastric bypass surgery. He eats about as much as I do. I see him on a weekly basis and he sees his doctor on a weekly basis. He (thus far) has had not side effects to his super low calorie diet which he is forced to eat due to his stomach size. His starting weight was approximately 480lbs (He's about 5'8 and 28 yrs old). He has lost over 200lbs thus far (surgery was Dec 15th 2005). What is different about what he is doing compared to what I am doing other than the obvious surgery? Maybe he got lucky and just didn't have any side effects. I guess that could be possible.
The above question has not been addressed. What's different about what' he's doing compared to what I'm doing? Why is OK for someone to have surgery but not OK for me to diet the way I am? I think that is a very important question. Thanks for the response so far Athena! Daniel |

| Hey guys and gals. I'd like to share my thoughts because I'm currently on this diet program and have experienced great success (as far as weight loss is concerned). I've also read the arguments against this diet and I'm very much open minded. I'm not a "clone" or a "marketing hype poo poo spouter" for this program. I'm a regular, overweight, working guy who bought the book and started losing weight. Albeit, I have completely changed my eating habits and I exercise religiously. So, I have a few questions of my own so bear with me. First of all a few facts about my experience with this program:
1. I started this program on May 27th 2006 and have maintained consistent results. The only week I didn't lose weight was last week when I went on vacation (Vegas Baby!) 2. I have lost 126lbs thus far 3. I had a check up with my doctor and was awarded a clean bill of health. I didn't have any specific tests done (such as cholesterol, blood sugar, etc) but overall I have no current physical side effects which have resulted from this program 4. I take supplements each and every day including Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, a general Multi-Vitamin, Selenium, Biotin (carb burning vitamin), Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Beta Carotene. 5. I make sure I get at least 30 grams of protein per day. I'm pretty sure the recommended amount is MUCH higher than this but at my calorie level that's about the max I can get. 6. My starting weight was 441 and I'm down to 315. 6'0 tall male 25 years old. 7. I normally jog/walk 2-4 miles per day 5 times per week minimum. 8. I have lost more weight on this program to date than any other participant out of an estimated 2000 Z dieters. OK, now for a few of my questions regarding what I am doing. 1. I'm super overweight. With limited calorie intake per day does my body not use the fat that I currently have on me for fuel? I think one of the earlier posts suggested this is possibly what happens but that it is hard on your organs, muscles, etc. Please explain. 3. Once I reach my goal weight (anticipated by the first of the year) I will begin to gradually increase my calorie intake. Will my body adjust to that intake and not just automatically store all the excess and start to gain weight like there's no tomorrow? I was under the impression that your body adjusts to your normal calorie consumption. Obviously, if I am eating 600 calories per day (or less in some cases) I have a huge deficit and it seems that my body taps into the fat stores to get the energy it needs (similar to comment above). Maybe I am not correctyl informed. 4. I have been on this program for over 4 months. Do you think that is enough time for side effects to show up? Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I look forward to the comments that follow. Like I said before, I'm just a normal fat guy trying to lose weight. So, far I'm feeling pretty good about my progress. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts. Thanks again! Daniel |

| Athena: What I have learned about healthy eating is you have to pick and choose your foods wisely. You do not have to have 2000 calories per day to function. How do I know? Because I'm consuming 25% of that have had ZERO side effects. I have MORE energy now than ever and I'm healthier than ever according to my doctor whom I was examined by less than three weeks ago. He was more than happy to see my progress and encouraged me to continue to lose weight (as long as I remained at my current level of health). I have no reason to believe that my health will be deteriorated by this. The weight loss is only temporary. Once I lose my weight I will gradually work back up to 1500-2000 healthy calories per day (along with exercise) and will be able to keep the weight off.
Second of all, get off the Dentist kick. Dr. Hopkins does not claim to be a "supervising physician". However, he is very involved with the progress of those on the program he has developed. Dr. Hopkins encourages all of his program participants to be checked regularly by their doctor. Whether they do or not is up to them, not Dr. Hopkins. Please don't knock him for being a dentist and developing this program. Also, I would agree with the statement that he is willing and eager to push his book. Why?? BECAUSE IT WORKS!!! Not because he makes money. If you had talked to Dr. Hopkins as much as I have you would realize he is truly concerned about the overweight population and wishes to help. Getting paid to do what he loves is secondary to this effort. Oh yeah, Dr. Hopkins lost 52lbs on this program in 8 weeks and has kept is off for over 18 months. If he can do it, why not me? Daniel |

| Watching your calorie intake is the best way to lose pounds in my opinion. I've lost 126lbs since May 27th just by exercising and limiting my calorie intake (I'm a male by the way). Some may say it's not possible. But, I have pictures to prove it and it is possible! The program I used to lose my weight was the "Z" diet. My starting weight was 441 and as of this morning I'm down to 315. Stick to it and you can do it!

| Lauren: What other info would you like specifically?
Just some more info about me and how the weight loss has impacted me. Prevously, my waist was 56 inches. Over the weekend I bought a pair of 42 jeans. My normal shirt size was 5XL. Now, I can wear a 2XL T-shirt comfortably. Previously, one of my suits was a 66 inch jacket. Now, I wear a 52 jacket. This diet is the best physical thing that has ever happened to me. My life has truly been changed for the better. Better yet, I have pictures and can prove the progress! Daniel |

| I would like to comment on the book that has been mentioned in this thread titled "Z". I am currently losing weight on this program and would very much like to say that it works. I am in no way affiliated with the author (he is my friend now!) and only came to know about this program through one of my friends who began losing weight on this program (I'll share both our our stories).
First of all I am from the Bowling Green, KY area and was in desperate need to lose weight. When I started my diet I weight in at a MASSIVE 441lbs. I'm 25 years old (male) and about 6'0 tall. I was a disaster waiting to happen. So, I found out about this diet and decided to give it a try. I made a huge committment to be dedicated and lose weight as fast as possible. I lost 20lbs the first week and just keep on shedding it from then. My diet officially started on Sat. May 27th. Today is Tuesday Sept. 26th 2006 and I weighed in this morning at 315lbs. I'll save you the trouble and that's a total weight loss of 126lbs. So, for those of you who say this diet is a joke and rapid weight loss is not good for you I beg to differ. I visited my doctor two weeks ago and I'm as healthy as a horse and he told me to keep up the good work and lose as much as I could. I have absolutely no adverse side effects and have not seen any bad results thus far. My normal calorie intake is 400-600 per day with supplement vitamins. I run at least 2 miles per day 5 times per week and feel like I can jump over the Golden Gate Bridge. My friend who started me on the diet began at 235 lbs (male) and was 5'5 tall. He is down to 160lbs currently and was able to lose that much weight in the same time frame I did. My mother is also on this diet and she has lost 40lbs in less than 4 months and she hasn't been as strict on it as I have. I've seen nothing but good from this approach to weight loss. Don't be jealous just because YOUR diet program doesn't work. You just need to switch programs to one that does and be committed! So, losing 100lbs in 4 months is definitely doable and you will be healthy when you do it. So, to dodgeman keep up the good work bro! I met you on Saturday at your work. Hang in there! To athena_tavener and hkellick, I don't think you really know what is possible. Don't try to argue with me cause I've been there and done that. I'll be down to my goal weight of 225 by Jan 1st for a total weight loss of 216lbs in just a tad over 7 months. And I WILL keep it off. See y'all on OPRAH! Daniel |
