i know EXACTLY what you mean. I studied abroad and had friends meet me/travel with me, especially ones that love to indulge. which isn't a bad thing, but when it's ice cream, candy, fried food, etc. by the pounds that = big trouble.

i know when i'm around my friends i always suffer from being guilted into eating worse/go off my diet. best suggestion i have: don't focus attention on it. eat with her, just remember you don't have to match her bite for bite. and if she wants treats, let her get it. if she asks why youre not indulging as well, keep it as a simple "i'm not really hungry" or "i don't feel like it" or even "i would, but it might make me sick, all the richness and such" (lately since i've been eating healthier i've gotten off of preservatives and such and now when i eat anything at all with them in my whole digestive system goes off track).

and hey, she's right, you are on vacation, so don't be afraid to splurge a bit! just limit the desserts to one or two a day. not ten ;-P

yay for abs doedoe! i feel you all on the weekends....however i actually did much better this weekend. unfortunately today i slipped a bit and had only ice cream for dinner (oops!!!) tomorrow i'll have more self restraint, hopefully :8-/

hey guys! i think i'll skip weigh in this week :/ for one thing i'm bloated from PMS and for the other i know it's not a good number that will only depress me more and i'd rather stay positive. thanks so much for the support!

i'll try the tips vege! thanks so much! i think that's what it is; i need something to just chew. (i've tried gum in the past but it just makes me hungrier)

looks like give or take everyone is doing a great job, congrats! i wish i had the same discipline as many of you :( the past two weeks i have been a very bad girl...between moving home, starting a new job, and going out with friends that i haven't seen in a year i regained like, 5 pounds!!! (trying not to freak out) i was doing so good, had finally gone under 140 :( not too mention it's menstrual week and i have water retention on top of all of that.


but i refuse to give up!!!!

 

any helpful suggestions as to keep yourself away from cravings all day and feeling full??? my hardest times are in the evenings after dinner and sometimes in the afternoon right after i get off work :(

this week was my first week starting work and seeing friends i haven't seen for months so i kinda forgot a bit about my diet and moved back up to 141 :(


i know i ll be more conscious this coming week, it's just frustrating that i'm so easily influenced by my surroundings.


hope all is doing much better than me!

yeah, that was me yesterday :( since being back my friends wanted to take me to my first bar as a 21 year old. i thought i was doing pretty great, taking it easy, letting myself indulge a bit since being back...until i could barely walk all the next day :( but today i am much better after resting and drinking tons of water (i could only manage to keep a bowl of soup and rice down yesterday)

good news is: 139 pounds! i broke 140! yay!

hang in there stephipops! i know how it goes with the PMS :( around that time i CRAVE salt and sweet. last summer i got into the bad habit of eating chocolate ice cream with cheese nips (disgusting sounding i know, but sooo horribly delightful!) it's been a year and i'm still fighting the urges, lol.

all of the above are great and i'd suggest one more thing: what helped me TONS was to find something that i valued more than my body. for me that was studying abroad, school, and friends. friends definitely helped a lot. good luck!

hey septimusette! way to stay positive with the exercise! i totally feel you on the bouts of depression. i just moved back home after a year abroad and am fighting off the culture shock. on top of all of it though i've gotten the usual travelers cold and need to take a break from the exercise a bit :( i'm hovering at a weight of 139, 140 which it's been months since i've been under 140 so i'm therefore happy about that! hang in there, and run an extra mile for me ;-P

i know what you mean :( there have definitely been days i felt like i could never recover from binging....

....but i've found that there are ways to heal too. i agree with the posts above. it's necessary at your darkest moments to find something that makes you feel better that isn't a mountain of calories. for me it's running. and if i can't get a pair of sneakers on i take a nap. if not that i'll go online and watch funny youtube clips. sometimes my body is just itching for something sweet so i'll let myself have a cup of hot coco or even i'll give in and go down to the corner store and buy my favorite chocolate bar HOWEVER i make sure i drive home or go somewhere far away from anything more than one bar before i eat it. that way i have no way to binge.

hang in there, the first few times of saying no are always the hardest, but believe me it gets easier with time.

WOW! well, i've heard of morning sickness and my mom said she had gotten it horribly when she had me and my siblings but that's really extreme to lose 40 pounds...what's your doctor have to say? hang in there!

ikhkhkhkh digestives have definitely been my downfall too stephiepops! best suggestion i can give is don't eat a single one. maybe have a separate stash of healthy snacks in the office??? like a bussle of whatever fruit is in season or rice cakes.

 

btw guys, need a little boost of support at the moment :( i'm in the middle of packing and moving from Egypt back home to the US and it's soooo hard! everything is everywhere and i don't want to leave my friends...

really resisting the stress binging at the moment...

wow! yay for motivation ;-P

wells...since joining last week i dropped a pound (yay!) now at 140 pounds! 7 more to go! i tried to see who might be similar to me (5' 7" 21 yrs old, 7 more to go from 140 to 133) i think i'm stuck in between tall peeps and short peeps ;-P

i agree with chdb3, he may mean for a short period to just take it easy until you know for certain, or maybe don't do cardio but pick up something like yoga. the doc's def the best one to ask though. sorry to hear the news :(

the women of my family are sooo hypocritical! whenever i complain about the stress weight i've gained or turn down dessert they look at me like i've gone crazy and lecture me on how thin i look, yet on the other hand they ALL have been on a diet since as long as i can remember and are twigs!

mmmmm....peanut butter is sooo amazing, yet sooo bad when youre addicted to it! i heard there are some great fake pb substitutes though...haven't tried them but talked about them on a similar discussion....

as to cereal, i once ate an entire box of special k chocolate delite in one day. since then i stay far far away. OR

i have discovered if i get a wheat or fibery cereal, something simple, then mix a handful of it with plain or non fat yogurt as well as a few almonds and it tastes AMAZING

 

AND

 

it fills me up all morning. try it! that's calcium and fiber right there.

try to stop it IMMEDIATELY. it's soooo much easier to put an end to a bad habit before it really gets ingrained into your life style. once you got one though, it's tough stopping it...but doable! i once read it takes something like a month of completely not doing a habit to really stop it...idk...good luck!

:-) thanks! youre right. my friends should understand if they really are my friends! i'm ALMOST to 140. I do feel MUCH better now that i've stayed on track the past two weeks (with the exception of two days of absolute exhaustion and stress from school that resulted in a mcdonalds feast, lol) but i'm definitely getting much better about dealing with stress and eating healthier. thanks for the boost!

hey guys! sooo sorry i've been MIA the past two weeks! I was traveling with friends...surprisingly enough, either from all the walking with our backpacks or something I lost a couple pounds! (i'm a little nervous it was muscle tone though, as i wasn't in the gym running on a treadmill...how fast do you lose muscle mass?) anyways, here's the stats:
