Definitely not. That's absurd. You ruin something, it'll get replaced. So that really makes no sense.

I don't know much about it, but it makes you think. It seems harder for me to lose weight now, and I've been trying hard. Also, I pack on the pounds a lot quicker. I've cut back on the soy a lot, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see if it's that or something else.

I sprinkle it in a lot of things. Like when I'm making biscuits, pancakes, black bean burgers, smoothies, etc.

Vegetarian Why do they do such terrible things to the animals? Feb 21 2008

Their beaks are cut because they are confined to a small place for so long, resulting in frustration and pecking of one another. I've read that castrating the cows promotes a fattier animal, but haven't seen too much on that. IMO, giving them a "good" life just to kill them is horrible also, but not near as bad. The people who work on these farms just don't care. They don't see the animals for what they are. Creatures who feel pain and emotion.

I feel the same way you do. I wish I could've known what I know now so I could've been vegan sooner. That's ok though. All that matters is that you're making a difference now.

Any Dr. who told me "eat meat or die"....well, that would be my last visit to that one. For the most part veg*ns get plenty of iron, and the vitamin c needed for absorption. Every person runs the risk of lacking something here and there. It's all about paying careful attention to your diet. Veg*n diets can be very healthy if done correctly.

It is yummy. Last night, I had mine on 2 slices of toasted peasant loaf w/ lettuce. It's also good w/ saltines.

Tuna is just about the only thing I've been missing lately, and I was super excited  to find a recipe that is a great substitute. Now, it being so good may be partly due to me not eating meat in a while along with my taste buds changing drastically. I plan to experiment w/ my meat eating mom tomorrow to see what she thinks.

No, I cannot take credit. I got it from a vegan woman on myspace. She's always posting great vegan recipes in her bulletins.

Mock tuna. I had some today. It's really good.

You can adjust this however you'd like. Make it like you would tuna salad. Here's what I used.

1 can garbanzo beans (drained) 1/4 c. Nayonaise 1 teaspoon mustard 1/4 c. diced onions Salt & pepper to taste.

Add it to a bowl & mash with a fork.

It's going to be different for each person. I haven't had dairy since early Dec & my skin has gotten a lot worse. (Before Dec, I hardly ate dairy, so it's not like I had it often) It seems to be clearing up a bit now, but I don't know if it'll stay like this.

tinabear, the crunchwrap used to be my favorite!!

I'm a vegan, and I don't have a problem eating out at all. It does help that I live in Asheville though. (#1 vegetarian friendly small city in USA) There are lots of restaurants here that are veg*n friendly. Even when I eat at chain restaurants, I can find something. Almost all places serve salads and other veggies.(baked potato, steamed veggies, etc.)  At Subway, I get a toasted veggie delite on white.

Don't forget broccoli, mushrooms, asparagus, spinach, and most every other vegetable.  I'm surprised that people on calorie count seem to think that protein only comes from meat or legumes.

Potatoes are good too. I didn't forget them. I just didn't feel like listing every food item. I went with the foods on the top of my head, and I'm fully aware of protein sources other than meat & legumes.

I use this recipe for black bean burgers. They are really good. http://vegetarian.about.com/od/maindishentree recipes/r/BlackBeanBurger.htm

Tofu scramble. I love this stuff. My 3 year old thinks it's eggs. http://vegetarian.about.com/od/breakfastrecip e1/r/TofuScramble.htm

If you eat fish, you're not a vegetarian, but you're a pescetarian. I applaud you for giving up all the other types of meat though.

You don't need fish for protein. There are plenty of other options, such as peanut butter, spaghetti, beans, tofu, milk, rice, oatmeal, nuts, bread, sunflower seeds, tempeh, lentils.

It contains eggs, and maybe a milk product, but I'm not sure.

I talk to some people who don't know what vegan means, so I have to explain. It's not a big deal. It's good to teach people new vocabulary. Many seem to think vegetarians eat fish, and now it's becoming obvious as to why. People are claiming they are vegetarians, but still eating fish. The only way to kill ignorance is to teach, not lie. I don't see the problem in saying "I'm a pescetarian which means the only meat I eat is seafood."

Also, if you're not eating peanut butter for that reason, you probably don't want to eat ANY prepackaged/preprepared food. Unless you're claiming the grubs were put in on purpose? o.O;

Exactly.

I grind my own. It's really yummy.

I wonder how many veg*ns would claim that meat smells disgusting to them, but then eat faux meat that is supposed to taste and smell like meat.

Not saying that any of you do this, but I wouldn't put it past some people to claim that the smell of meat is disgusting, but then chow down on some Chikn things!  Money mouth

IMO, it smells nothing like real meat. Fake meat.....it's not a rotting carcass, and sure doesn't smell like it.

I didn't give up meat because of the taste. I liked the taste of meat, so I switched to some yummy alternatives, hold the murder. The smell of real meat cooking makes my stomach churn, including chicken, but hell yes I love the fake chicken patties.

I can't ever remember the name, but my local grocery store carries pretty good veggie burgers over in the produce section. They're not frozen. But, I'd rather have the chicken patties.

The best veggie/black bean burgers I've had are at vegetarian restaurants.

I've had several people ask me if it's ok if they eat meat infront of me. I think it's very respectful. The only thing I don't like is when some people insist on "mooing" while eating their steak. Now, that is rude.
Vegetarian question for the vegans... do you make it about more than your diet? Jan 30 2008

Being vegan isn't just about your diet, it's a lifestyle. Vegan: Refers to a vegetarian who eats no animal products or animal by-products (dairy, eggs) and uses no animal products (fur, silk, wool) or skin. I'm not nitpicky about others though. As long as people try to cut out as many animal products as possible, I'm happy.

It can be hard to be 100% vegan, but if there is an alternative, buy it.  I do not buy anything that contains animal products or that has been tested on animals. I buy used tires. As far as prescriptions go, I do not take them. If it came down to needing some sort of health care, I would seek alternative methods, and I highly doubt I'd ever take anything a regular Dr. prescribes. Concerning leather, I don't wear it, but recycled leather is completely fine for a vegan to use. The damage is already done.

I love it...but I have to say that I got bored listening to him while I was working out. : )   So I turn the volume down on the TV and turn on some great "workout" music. Then I just follow along with them. Helped to get me through the boredom of doing it every other day.

Ooh thanks! I've been doing it a lot and all that talking is a bit annoying. Great idea.

Right now, I've only been doing the basic video. That's the only one we've got that I just happened to find in a box full of movies. I'm gonna look for the others.

You might not like tofu now, but that could change. I didn't like tofu when I first gave up meat, but my taste buds have changed and now I LOVE it. Give it some time. Your taste will change so much.

Sunflower seeds are good, but really high in fat. What about mock meats? If you don't want a soy replacement, there are burgers that don't have soy. Brown rice is good for protein. Garbanzo beans are really good. Make you some hummus dip for veggie wraps & sandwiches or just throw some of them on a salad. Potatoes, pinto beans, navy beans, bread, oatmeal, and there is a cereal I buy sometimes called "Hi protein crunch" or something like that. It's a tiny bag, and quite expensive but it has lots of protein. You have lots of options.

You don't like any kind of nuts?

I used to hate them, until I tried a pair on. Then, I had to have them. And yes, mine are bright pink.  :o  Most comfortable shoes I own, and I couldn't give a flying flip what someone thinks about them. I don't follow "what's hot or not." I go for personal preference and comfort.

I find it really sad when people say that there are things people should NEVER wear. What does it matter? My SIL is a nurse, and crocs have made her feet feel absolutely wonderful. Perhaps I should tell her that she shouldn't wear them because the fashion police said so. I don't like the tiny little speedos that some men wear on the beach, but if it bothers me that bad, I DON'T look. I don't find that difficult one bit.

Ugliest shoes....uggs. I call them fuggs. ("freaking" ugly) But, not on my feet....not my problem.

First of all, with articles & "research" you must look at who conducted it, who's funding it, who's promoting it, how many people were tested, etc. A lot of research is biased and misleading.

Too much of anything is unhealthy. I've talked to plenty of people who consume large amounths of soy, and have since they were children....they are perfectly fine. Sure, that's not going to be the case for everyone. We are all different. Consume it in moderation, and you'll be fine. Just buy organic soy products.
