I love the little lemon snack cakes. They are great for when I need something sweet! I think they are 90 calories and they are sooo yummy!

I love fruit flavored cakes (not to be confused with fruit cakes!). My favorite is probably strawberry cake with buttercream icing... especially as cupcakes! I also love a dreamsicle cake (orange cake with buttercream icing) or lemon cake!

Tres Leches is also pretty high on my list. It could be my favorite... YUM!!!

If I'm feeling decadent, though, spice cake is another yum.

Really anything but chocolate. I don't like chocolate. Sometimes I think something is wrong with me.

Okay, this may be kind of a stupid post, but I have to post it because I was right there with you up until pretty recently. I got my curves very early on, and had the same frustrations... at 5'4 and 115 lbs, I was squeezing into a size 7 too. I'd go home and cry because I had always been very small (like, couldn't wear anything but a 0... and back then they weren't as easy to find!) and couldn't understand why I wasn't staying consistent with my sizes. All of that changed when I started wearing adult sizes (even numbers) instead of juniors.

Juniors sizes are cut differently - straight down so there's no room for hips. If you do have curvy hips (like I did - Italian girl here!), then you might want to just see if the adult sizes fit you better. It changed drastically for me - I now wear a 4 or 2 most of the time.

I'm really sorry if this is a dumb post, I just have totally been there and I feel really bad for anyone going through what I did. So I hope this helps.

I love "Remember the Name" by Fort Minor. It's not really upbeat and happy, but it always gets me going... sometimes I'll play it on purpose when I'm near the end of my workout and getting tired, and it gets me going again!

I'm an emotional eater, too, and I tend to go for the ice creams and nutellas of the world, too... but it always makes me feel worse when it's over with. Could you go for a walk, or run, or do some kind of work out? That always makes me feel better. Plus, then you can enjoy a little bit more of the ice cream! :)

I had a long distance relationship with my husband for about 6 months before I moved out here to be with him... less than 5 months later, we were engaged, and now we've been married for 2 years. I was actually 21 when I met him. Sometimes it does work! I agree that you should talk to him seriously and let him know your concerns. If he is really serious about you, he'll listen and help you to feel better about it, and hopefully even help you with a move out there!
The Lounge Wedding Cost Jul 07 2007

We were lucky. My parents paid for the whole thing. I'm guessing it was probably about $50,000, and we did cut a few corners (you can spend hundreds of thousands on a wedding!). However, you can do a lot of things that will take the cost down. I second the idea of picking the top 3-5 things that are really important to you and splurging on them, but looking into lower cost options for the rest of the little details. For me, it was the dress (because my daughter may want to wear it someday), the location (because if it is amazing, that is what people will remember), the pictures (because you keep them forever)... and the food to some degree (because we had a theme).

Unfortunately, the wedding market is a cluster of insanity. I mean, you can spend thousands of dollars on a cake... a friend of the family had her cake done by some fancy cake designer in NY and guess what... it had to be frozen, so it tasted terrible. We had our cakes (we were married in Texas so we got a groom's cake too) custom made by our caterer (we wanted special flavors), and people still talk about how good they were now, two years later. And they were MUCH cheaper than going with some fancy cake maker, and still beautiful! I had a very intricate dress and they added the pattern from the dress to the cake. It was very cute. :) I think the bride's cake ended up being $500 since we used our caterer (the groom's cake was free), as opposed to a few thousand from a cake maker. You could also have someone make your cake -- just get a few different sized cake pans and layer them. Remember, it's just going to get eaten anyway.

I'd recommend doing less flowers than you think you need. Flowers just die and no one really remembers them anyway! You can also do centerpieces that don't involve flowers at all. I love centerpieces where they just have tea lights floating in water.

I don't recommend using a wedding planner, either. They are expensive and you don't need them. Our reception and catering vendors helped us through everything.

You can also look into having your reception into a place like the Parish Hall of a church. We just went to a wedding a few weekends ago that did this and it was so much fun!

Regarding alcohol -- don't do open bar. If you open a bottle for one drink, you get charged for the whole bottle. We did beer, wine, and a margarita bar (had to do it being in Texas!). We also didn't do champagne for the toast for anyone except the bridal party, because people already have drinks in their hands by that point anyway. I'd recommend having one more option other than beer and wine, though - most places will do a punch or something like that.

If you have your wedding in the morning rather than the evening, my guess is that it would be a lot less, too. You would be serving lunch rather than dinner, and wouldn't have to worry about serving drinks if you didn't want to (or you could do something like only bloody marys and mimosas).

Also, regarding favors -- you can make them yourself. My mom baked heart-shaped sugar cookies for ours. Our opinion was, who is going to care about the favors? They're cute, but they just didn't matter to us, and people loved the fact that they had something to eat when they got back to their hotel after drinking all night.

Whew! I think I wrote a book. The one thing that is probably the most important, is be careful with your vendors... they will probably try to throw in last-minute stuff that will increase the price dramatically. Our photographers did this to us and it ended up being like $5,000 more than they'd quoted us on.

Also, remember that something always goes wrong. We forgot our honeymoon tickets in Maryland, so we had to show up at the airport at 4:30 am and buy them again. Our friend's passport didn't come in time so they couldn't even go to their resort in Mexico - they ended up just taking their flight to Florida (not getting on the connecting flight to Mexico), and driving to Key West. Our other friends' wedding was on the rainiest day of the year and there was flooding. So if something goes wrong, don't worry... just enjoy the day! :)

Health & Support did anyone elses stomach hurt when beinging to eat normally after starvation mode? May 20 2007
22:49 (UTC)
I had Mono and couldn't eat for 3 weeks (literally could not keep anything down but Jello and sometimes Ginger Ale), and I am just now getting over it. I've been trying to eat normally but I absolutely CANNOT eat a lot in one sitting or my stomach does begin to hurt -- I've found that if I eat smaller meals throughout the day, it is easier. It's been about a week now since I've been able to eat real food without throwing up, and although I still can't eat big meals, it is getting better. I'd just recommend eating smaller, more frequent meals and seeing if that helps.

Oh, and I've also added liquid calories back in to my diet (I actually lost too much weight and now need to gain some back). That might help you if you can't get enough from food. For example, I've been drinking regular Coke and having coffee with cream and sugar. I've found that liquids don't hurt my stomach, just food.

Since you said Vegetarian, not Vegan, I love eggplant parmesan. Yummmmmmmm! You can just cut up an eggplant or two (depending on how many you are feeding - you will have to peel it first though) into thin slices and bread it with Italian breadcrumbs that you buy in the store (dip it in egg first to help make the breadcrumbs stick), and then pan fry them. Then just pour a little tomato sauce over it and top with mozzarella cheese (as much as you like -- I don't like tomato sauce that much so I only use a little), and stick it in the oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese and warm the sauce.

The only trick to the eggplant is draining the excess moisture out first -- you can do this by just putting the pieces in a colander, salting each layer, and just letting them drain for a few hours (if you have a plate you can sit on top to weigh it down a bit, that will help). Then you just lay the pieces out on paper towels right before frying so they finish drying. I just realized you said "quick" so I'm not sure if this qualifies because they do have to drain for a bit, but the actual cooking part is very fast.

Even though it may sound kind of difficult, it's really not. Although I don't know the calorie content... it might be high since you do fry the eggplant.

I'm a pear shape with a really small waist (well, really small top half in general I guess, but I've got hips!), and the only jeans I've found that I like are by Elie Tahari and Seven For All Mankind. I also love Bebe pants so I think I'd probably like their jeans, but I've never tried them on. All of these jeans are kind of expensive, though.

I honestly don't think there is any rhyme or reason to it now with Vanity Sizing and all. I've always had problems buying pants because I've always been curvy -- tiny waist, big hips. So, I just stick to the designers that I know fit my body and flatter my figure. :)

The best gift I ever got was a handmade gift -- my best friend from college put together a cookbook for me when I graduated, because we always cooked together and he'd made me passionate about it! I still use it all the time... it's all of the recipes that he taught me how to make. :)

My best friend in high school also put together a photo album of all of our fun times and trips together when we graduated (we were in marching band so we went a lot of places), and I still look through it sometimes, 7 years later.

I just love sentimental stuff like that, though. I'm a big goober! Gift cards to places like Target and Bed Bath and Beyond are great, too, because they'll need to furnish their dorm rooms! :) As far as amount goes, you don't need to give much... I agree that $20 is fine.

I agree with dressing casual. I love the sundress idea!

I don't usually know what I want, except that I want something "different" just about every time, so the most important thing to me is usually that the person keeps my features in mind when giving me color and style (I usually just tell my hairstylist "just do something that will make me look great!").

I still remember a time about 5 years ago or so, I told my hairstylist that I used all throughout my childhood and teen years that I wanted my hair to be chocolate brown and she told me honestly "I don't think that would work with your skin tone." Yeah, it sucked to think that I couldn't pull off what I wanted, but the honesty and the fact that she really considered it before actually doing it was great... and she picked a better shade that I loved! So yeah, I would say honesty is important, too. I mean come on, most of us can't pull off platinum blonde color, ya know?

Oh, and all of the hairstylists at a given salon should always all have great hair. :)

Wow, I just checked this thread and there are so many replies! Thanks for the ideas, everyone! I actually made a tofu stir fry dish last night with sugar snap peas, and my husband loved it so much, he had leftovers tonight! I've also had success with fajitas, since he can add meat to his, and I just put beans and veggies in mine. Tomorrow night I'm going to make a sort of Mexican bean and veggie casserole and just add some strips of grilled chicken to the top of his (I bought the kind that are already made at the store)... not sure if it'll quite work but we'll see! Thanks again everyone! :)
