These are great ideas guys, thanks! I especially like the idea of lunges and jumping jacks in the bathroom! We have offices on the 7th and 16th floors of our building and after karozel's post, I'm curious to see how sweaty I would get walking from one floor to the other! Where do you get the Swiss balls? I have a pretty high desk (2.5 feet) ... do you think they would be large enough. That would definietly be fun! trikki -- yes, I definietly think it is odd that I do these things too, but I don't really enjoy my job so this helps me let of some steam and be a little quirky (without anyone knowing!). I do workout outside of work, but this helps the time pass more quickly! |

130-135 is still a healthy weight for you though lisseth! It's always hard to eat well when life/work is stressful. I have DEFINIETLY been there. I think what has helped me most is to just not buy or keep unhealthy food around the house and bring your lunch every day. I'm a cheapskate, so if I bring food, I'm less inclined to buy junk. Seems like everyone is going well though -- great job! I hasvn't been logging cals, but I have been trying to workout every few days. There is a gym across the street from my office so I have been going at lunch. Today I tried a hip hop class (1-1:45 on Tuesdays) and it was awesome! That plus a 7 min warmup on the elliptical and I burned 440cals! Haven't weighed in a week or so but I was 133 last week (only down 1-1.5 lbs) but maybe that will change for this week. Here's hoping! :-) |

Hey all, Seems like everyone is doing really well! I think I have been too I went running two days this week and am trying to eat better. I don't know if I have lost any weight, but my stomach definietly feels/looks a little flatter, which is awesome. That's the LAST place I can usually see a difference, so I'm super happy! Keep updating everyone - let's encourage each other! Ashley |

Hi All, Like Connie, I just keep staying within a 5 lbs range ... it's annoying. I took some time away from logging everything (I obsess over it sometimes, which worries me) and I maintained so that was a good thing. However, now I just feel like I'm getting "jiggly" and want to tone up. Right now I am about 134 and range between 130 and 135 most days. I started logging again this week and I'm going to start back up wit the gym too. It's just so nice out, I want to find motivation to work out outside! Missed you guys ... let's KIT! Ashley |

Hi Gals! Lisseth -- sorry that you have not been feeling the motivation lately. I think it's a good idea to keep a written food journal with you when you are on the go. Just get a cute little notebook and pencil (pen?) to write everything down in. Even if you don't end up logging it all in at the end of the day, just knowing you need to write things down will likely have you make better food choices. I am at a bit of a standstill too and am trying to stay motivated. I was travelling for most of the month and just got home last Wednesday. I did go to the gym twice last week (trying to fight off a cold) and controlled the drinking and eating this weekend I think. The cold caught up with me and I feel AWFUL today so I may just make some chicken soup for dinner! It's TTOM too so I'm scared to weigh in ... I feel your pain chattynoel! Here's to an early arrival of spring -- I think we all need it! A

Hi All, I just came across your group and I hope no one minds if I join too! My name is Ashley and I usually hover in the low 130s, after a loss of about 16lbs over the last two years. My goal weight is 125, which I am aiming for in the next 6 months. I have heard that dropping the last 5lbs is the hardest and with me it also requires a great deal of exercise (cutting cals alone doesn't seem to jump start my system very much). I live in NYC and get to walk a lot, which is a plus! Hope to chat with you all more in the future! Ashley |

Hey there, 2.4lbs is GREAT! I actually took a bit of a hiatus from weighing because I only weigh at the gym and I couldn't make it to the gym for a week, but I was there yesterday and I lost 2lbs :-) I'm focusing on getting more exercise into my week because I don't think I will ever really lose just but cutting cals. So far this week I went on a 4.5 hour hike, took a pilates class, and went running this morning. My knee has been bothering me since the hike, which is annoying because I want to work out! I've been keeping at 1400/day plus eating back whatever I burn (SO much easier with my new HRM). I'm going out to dinner tonight, so I hope I can maintain my good habits! How's everyone else doing?? |

Hey Lisseth, Working out at home can be fun! Do you have cable? We have an excercise channel that lets you pick various workouts ... it's cool. And with the weather getting warmer, you will start to be able to do more things outside too :-) You are way down from where you were at this time last year! Do you have a goal in mind to work towards?I am going to Vegas at the end of March (the 19th -23rd) so my goal is to lose 5-6 lbs. I have had a great time with working out so far this week and getting a heart rate monitor has really helped me too. Keep positing and good luck! |

Hey all! So I weighed in at the gym last night and I'm STILL 133.5. GRRRR. However, I used my new heartrate monitor for the 1st time in my "boot camp" type class and I urned 567 cals in an hour! That's awesome! This is a class where I usually estimate that I burn 400 cals. I love my new HRM! How is everyone else?? |

Hey guys Well, I was so excited to be at 131 last week, but was much LESS excited to see that I was 133.5 this week! Boo! Not really sure what happened because I have been staying in the 1400 range all week and I worked out 3 times last week. I did go to the bar for football on Sunday (go Eagles!!!) and had some food (no drinks) so my sodium may be up. It's ok though. I'm sticking to my plan and it will pay off eventually :-) How's everyone doing? Lisseth? Funkymunky? Chattynoel? Valereee? Ash |

I'll post a sample of my food log, as I'm keeping to 1400 cals on non-workout days too. Breakfast - Oatmeal (.5 cup dry) with 1/2 apple, 2 tbsp chopped walnuts, .5c unsweetened almond breeze -- 300 cal Snack - 2 clementines -- 60 cal Lunch - 1c bean soup with 3 oz chicken thrown in and one serving multigrain crackers-- 360 cal Snacks (I snack a lot before dinner) -- 2c veggies (carrots, peppers, celery, etc), 15 almonds -- 200cal Dinner - Salmon with .5 c edemame and rice -- 450cal Total -- 1370cals for the day
It's not perfect in terms of nutrition breakdown (could be higher in fiber too), but I think it will help with the breakdown throughout the day. Of course if you eat an earlier dinner than me (usually I eat around 9pm) you may want to move your snacks around. I hope it helps! |

I agree with floggingsully on both counts. I am a pretty big breakfast person (meaning I like eating it) but rarely have too much time to make it. Lots of things can be made a bit in advance and eaten on your way out the door -- * Homemade granola bars with dried fruits, nuts, and grains * Steel cut oats (just soak in water the night before and heat for a few min in the microwave). Toss in some nuts or fruit. * Mini spinach quiches can be made in muffin tins ahead of time and frozen (just reheat in the microwave) * An egg takes about 1 min to cool on the stove. Throw it in a whole wheat pita with some cheese, turkey, or ham and you can run out the house with it. Also, your plan seems to be almost devoid of veggies (save the carrots as a snack). You may want to try to get veggies into each meal if you can! |

As a rule of thumb, I don't weigh in daily because I find that it leads to more obsessive tendancies with eating for me. Our weight can fluctuate up to 5lbs from morning to evening so weight loss or gain should really be looked at as a trend instead of actual daily pinpoints. Lots of things can influence your weight from day to day including your hydration levels, time of day, water retention (may be a result of salty foods), food intake, stress, etc. When I saw that I lost 4 lbs I attributed a lot of it to water weight because I know the foods I was eating in the past week were much lower in sodium than what I had been eating over the holidays. It takes a bit longer to see fat loss, but this is probably a more accurate representation of true weight loss. |

Hi Guys Well my eating well and bit of exercise in my first week back on the wagon paid off! I went to the gym today and was down to 131! Yay! I know that some of that is water weight, but it definitely helps keep me motivated! I was sick for the last few days, but I started feeling better on Saturday and thought I was at 100% but BOY was I wrong. I took a circuit training class at the gym tonight and had to leave for about 5 minutes in the middle of class to sit down in the locker room because I felt like I was going to fall over. I just need to remember to take things slow ... I'm not so good at that. Hope everyone else is doing well!! Ashley |

Hi Everyone, Yes, I think we are definitely back to updating every week ... at least I am! I had the past week off of work and I used it to get back in the habit of eating better. I tried to go to the gym each day, but I got sick on Wednesday and wasn't able to make that happen. But I figure I have to start somewhere and counting cals is certainly a good start. I am staying at 1400 each day I don't work out. So far this week I only went over one day (New Years Eve ... go figure!) and today is football Sunday so who knows. My SO is battling a really bad case of laryngitis right now so he's staying home and not drinking (meaning no bar) so I made him a nice buffet for munching. I tried to put healthy stuff on it (shrimp, veggies, edemame, hummus, etc) so I can snack too. I think my weigh ins will be Monday. Last weigh in was at 134 so that's my starting weight. My goal is 125. I was at 126 in July 2008 so I know it is possible!! Nice to "meet" all of you new ladies! I hope we can really support each other here!

Hey All! Lisseth83 - you are so right - it's so hard to keep up with eating right and working out in the winter. There's too much temptation to curl up on the couch and eat! That being said, I am getting FLABBY and I am not happy with it. I don't think I have gained too much, but my muscle mass has defineitly decreased, which is frustrating. I am going back to the gym today (a 90 minute class that I LOVE) and going from there. One day at a time! How is everyone doing? Ashley |

Hi All! Seems to be a bit dead here lately. I just got back from a 4 day trip to London (for business, not for fun unfortunately) and I am getting back on the wagon (again). Like you said Chatty, I'm fine with my weight, but I really would like to tone up! I went running this morning and my goal is to go at least twice more this week. Holiday season is DANGEROUS for me because I love to bake. Does anyone have any low cal or low fat baking recipies (breads, cookies, etc)? I made a loaf of cranberry bread last night and it is DELICIOUS but its about 120 cals for a small slice so I have to be careful. Hope everyone is having a happy Monday! Ashley |

Chatty -- that's awesome that you had such a great week! I agree that it's much harder to make good choices during the weekend. Since I rarely eat until noon, I usually end up having only 2 semi-healthly meals and drink little to no water. I had a HUGE project at work last week so all semblance of healthy eating went out the door. I am finally getting groceries delivered tomorrow so I should have some things in the cupboard. I'm also making pumkin muffins, which I am SO excited about. I love this time of year and i want to make the whole house smell like the holidays :-) I'm doing pretty well this week so far. I played Wii Fit for 35 minutes last night including the hula hoop game, which is HARD. Had salmon and veggies (roasted acorn squash and green beans) for dinner. And today I have tuna and crackers, yogurt, and pepper strips for lunch and popcorn as a snack. And when I ran down to the deli (because I'm STARVING for some reason this morning) I got a hard boiled egg and fruit. Yeah healthy food! |

Sueswan -- I read some of your jouranl entries and would guess that your plateau uis due to the fact that you are simply not eating enough. Taking in 500 calories a day is basically starving your body's stytems and making your body hold on to every calorie that you give it because it is not trusting that you will provide it with enough nutrients in the future. 1200 cal/day is the MINIMUM a woman should be taking in. With the amount of exercise you do, I would think that you could increase that to about 1900. |

Hi Everyone! I have been weighing myself about once a week and haven't really seen the scale move up or down, which is a good thing. But I looked at myself in the mirror yesterday when I was getting dressed and I was NOT pleased with what I saw. My stomach and my back are the two areas that I want to work on in the next 3 months and I think the push up challenge is going to be a good start. I have a soccer game today and then I hope I can get to the gym or at least run 3 times this week. Because work is so crazy I think I may take a 5pm class at the gym and then come back to work to finish things before going home. The gym is only a 10 min walk from work so that may work. Fingers crossed! Chatty -- I WISH it was my puppy! I want a bulldog so badly, but I can't get one until we move to the suburbs, whenever that is! I'm saving my money too :-) Does your friend absolutely love them? I know they are prone to some health problems so maybe I could pick her brain sometime about reputable breeders and such. And no, I have definitely never really been a runner. I did track in high school for 4 years but I really didn't like it. I still wouldn't call myself a runner but it's a good way to change up a routine. I definietly do not like running on the treadmill (too boring) but running outside is nice. Two of my friends are doing the NYC marathon in a few weeks ... that I could NEVER do! Funky -- Are you in Philly full time now? I hope everything is ok with work, I know you were stressed for a while there. We can definietly get back on track! Ok gotta go log my cals -- talk to everyone later. Have a great day!! |

Hey guys! fhstke - what is this 100 pushup challenge that you speak of? Sounds fun (if not incredibly intimidating!). I definietly have been doing well in the workout department this week. The BF and I went for a short run on Monday and I went to bellet yesterday. Nothing planned for the end of the week except GAME 1 OF THE NLCS!! I'm going to Philly tomorrow night to cheer on my Phils

Hi lifeinkcals -- I like your idea of popcorn for dinner. I know it's not the healiest thing, but I do it sometimes too. And I definietly agree about Coke Zero -- it DOES taste like regular Coke! Sounds like you are definietly on the right track with balancing exercising and healthy eating! I am going running with the BF tonight and instead of a piece of pizza for lunch, I had one of those Kashi frozen meals (shrimp with lime cilantro sauce and rice). I got 25% of my fiber and it only came to 230 cals :-) Much better than the stats for pizza! Have a good night all! Ashley |

FUNKY! We actually came back to the group on the same day! How weird is that? I (like you) have definietly let myself go since I last signed on, mainly because of life stresses (getting promoted, moving in with the BF, etc). I am slowly getting back into thngs and have counted cals for the past few days, with a cheat day yesterday because I was in Philly watching the Phils win game 2 against the Brewers! It's too hard to resist those hoagies and soft pretzels! I also made an accountability pact with my friend last night -- we pedged to each work out (gym, yoga, ballet, soccer, etc) at least 4 times in the next 7 days and if we don't, the loser has to buy the other a yoga or a ballet class ($15 basically). I'm cheap so the chance of losing $$ is a good motivator to me. I also go a Wii Fit a few weeks ago so I'm going to try to make sure that I'm using that on my off workout days. I'm so glad to see you back -- let's get motivated together! :-) |

That's actually a good idea. I have no problem not eating meat ever day - I love to cook and have made some pretty good dishes with beans. I'm not a huge fan of tofu, but I think this is because I haven't learned the best way to cook it yet. Thanks! |

Thank you so much gi-jane. I will restart logging my foods and try to make an appt to speak with the doctor on a follow-up visit. I do eat red meat and cheese, but always in moderation. Genetics of course may be the culprit, so we shall see. Thanks again! Ashley |

Thanks fhstke, I appreciate the advice and kind words. You are right about activity being a stress reliever. I think that's why I'm actually looking forward to the gym tonight ... I need to get my mind off things. I am trying to get the bf to see this as well, but he says that he doesn't even have the motivation to get off of the couch. It's kind of scary. He likes playing basketball so I am hoping he will get out this weekend and get some fresh air b/c it's supposed to be so nice out! |

Hi All, I have also been absent lately, but everyone seems to be doing so well. I know we all have our ups and downs and sometimes life takes over when we aren't looking My life has also been full of ups and downs these past few weeks and it's tearing me up in a way. My bf is having an awful time at work and is actually in the process of looking for a new job and he is stressed 24 hours a day. It kills me to see him so unhappy and I don't know what to do to help him. I know I can't fix all of him problems, but it's just so hard. I got a promotion yesterday at work and I'm not even really happy about it. It's more money (though not as much as I think the position warrants) but about 150% more work and responsability for me. It stresses me out just thinking about it. All I kept hearing from my boss is how much potential I have and how strong my skills are, yada, yada, yada. But I don't really like my job. It's almost a curse to be good at something that you have no passion for. Sorry to be a downer, but I'm just feeling really low these days. I went to soccer on Monday and ballet on Tuesday and am hoping to get to the gym tonight. Like funky I have been having a drink most nights (wine ... yum!) so even though I have been good about counting cals, I am expecting the scale to go up a little bit. Plus, I am paranoid that my new BC pill (ortho-cyclen ... anyone on it) is going to make me gain weight ... urg. |
