I joined the "I hate Heba" group on Facebook, and I'm kind of embarrassed to have such strong feelings about a reality show, but yeah, it's where I'm at. I think Amy made a BIG mistake this week too, but maybe the producers wouldn't let her vote Vicky off. She makes for excellent TV. I really feel sorry for her and Hebba - it's obvious they get no real pleasure from life. |

| Vegetarian | Vegans/Vegetarians that smoke | Nov 16 2008 22:42 (UTC) |

I am smoker and a vegetarian, and I have to say that anyone addicted to anything is never happy with that substance. I don't smoke to inhale ash, I smoke because my addiction is stronger than my desire/will to quit at this moment. I agree with the other person pointing out the faulty logic in the question. I also have been an ex-smoker; during times when my friends and family smoked and I did not, my mind oscillated between feeling superior to them or feeling irate. If your question was meant as a way to get answers that may motivate your friends to quit, or for you to stay quit, I think it's a good intention but no one quits for anyone but their self. I congratulate you on your quit! Stay strong. It's not so much the act of stopping, the week of pain or the first couple months of relief -- it's remembering all that so you can continue to stay smoke-free. |

For me, the admission of love would be too soon and I would feel suffocated. Infatuation is awesome, love is a promise. It sounds like you did the right thing! Waiting is better than having to take something back later. |

It's okay to feel this way right now - no matter who did what, when, broken hearts are broken hearts. I used to be with a guy who I thought I couldn't live without. I also cheated on him when I was drinking with friends - I felt like I just couldn't control myself when drunk. You did the right thing - you were honest with him and let him make his own decision. Whatever happens is meant to be - whether together or not. Have faith - if he's not the one, the right one will be put in your life when you are ready. And stop beating yourself up! ; ) You are a human being and we make mistakes - mistakes are lessons, and it sounds like you have learned a lot. Thank goodness they aren't all as painful as what you're going through. You aren't a bad person. Take a break from this worry - spend some time hanging out with some girlfriends, or make some - sounds like your family friend took advantage of your vunerability. Girlfriends hug you when you're sad, make you laugh when you're grumpy, and protect you when you're out there at the bar. Hang in there! |

| Maybe you might want to take a break from food-related socializing right now. When I quit smoking I stopped hanging around smokers for a while, focused on getting healthier plans together, and didn't go too hard on myself. You're making a really big, awesome change in your life and that takes time. Aminjarez, right on - that is so true about being in a food-centered society. | |||

| Weight Loss | I really don't understand it. | Sep 14 2008 06:52 (UTC) |

| There could be several reasons. In my case (and others), I've binged because I am feeling something (fear, sadness, stress) and bingeing helps me feel like I am filling my deep, dark emotional hole. In other cases, the person bingeing hasn't gotten enough protein, fat, or certain vitamins. I think when you figure out which one of these examples sounds like you, you can chart a course of action. | |||

| You want to get involved with a local fitness program in your area or teach a health class at the free college. That way, it's attraction rather than promotion - they want to be there, instead of you putting yourself in some dangerous territory. | |||

| Hayley, good for you - I encourage you to do this. Most universities cater to vegan/vegetarian food requirements, and you will be absolutely set just by making some friends in similar situations on this site. It will be hard, but it's possible. Do you know anything about your college cafeteria menus yet - are they online? | |||

| Was she arrested? What happened? Another example of this: in my old town, one of my favorite bookstores had all the windows smashed out of it and was vandalized. Someone even tried to set fire to it. The culprits: a youth group from the local megachurch. They were upset that the bookstore had an (off-limits) adult area. The kids deemed it "evil". Just sayin'! | |||

| I'm with kimlanier - tofu is so cheap. I know a lot of people are freaking out over whether it's "toxic", but for goodness sakes, have you seen what eating fried chicken can do to a body? Beans are also great. They are protein and fiber packed and can easily help you clear a room of people you don't like. There is also seitan - texturized vegetable protein - that you can make at home. | |||
| The Lounge | who's the unhealthiest person you know? | Aug 30 2008 19:08 (UTC) |

| Hah. Old me was the worst. I would smoke two packs of cigarettes a day, never ever exercise, drink coffee and MAYBE eat, and fast food at that. Oh, and I boozed it up, too. I probably couldn't walk a half mile at that point. I probably wouldn't just because I wouldn't feel like it. Now I am a most-always vegetarian and exercise every day and don't smoke or drink.
The new bad lifestyle person is my roommate. He eats some naughty foods and drinks like nobody's business. It hurts to watch sometimes. And he makes fun of me for attempting a healthy lifestyle! |

| Okay, I understand that you and Devotchka don't support human rights. Fine. That is a major source of contention between me and the whole of PETA. I am more inclined to send money to help children and women brutally raped in Darfur than to PETA. I think suffering is equal among all and unavoidable, but say "clean your own house first".
We're all capable of smugness and smarminess and that bullsh** and I have to remember that you are, what 20 or 21? Yeah. You are allowed to be smug and the rest of us are allowed to act like elders, chiding you. We've all been you - that's why we protest. |
