Original Post by kathygator:

agree. We are all Americans. We should be indivisible.

Kudos to Michelle Obama for rising above the partisanship of the last week.

anyone see Joe's response to the SNL debate skit? He could not stop giggling over the guy's portrayal of him.

I saw Joe's response! So funny, he was hysterical. I find him to be very likeable.

My feeling at this point is that I would like to see where a Democrat can take us. To be honest, if Hilary were in the running, she would have my vote. People were giving all this b.s. about how if she were elected Bill would be running the White House. Well, sweet! Hilary is vey intelligent and I guess the only thing that people can remember about Bill is that he got frisky with an intern....forget the fact that he was a great president. I think that having the Clinton's in the White House would have ben very interesting.

I like Obama. Sure, he lacks in the foreign policy area, but that is why his VP choice is a great one. Joe Biden is very experienced in foreign policy. Obama brings in a man who can strengthen his game, good choice. What does Palin bring to the table? What does she have to strengthen McCain? God forbid something should happen to McCain is Palin ready to run this country? Really????!!!!! That is freaking scary. And might I add that we do not need to bring creation into our schools. This is not an attack on anyone's personal belief. But hey, separation of church and state here. You want your child to have a creation biased education, send them to private school or supplement at home. If anything should be in schools it should be a course on world religions to teach students tolerance and world views....oh wait, that might encourage them to have a mind of their own.

Congrats! I loved being pregnant. That said...

For the first 3 months I had 24 hour sickness, forget morning sickness! As soon as my feet hit the floor, I was sick. I kept a ziplock next to my bed with some saltines and I always had some water. I would sit up in ben in the a.m. and have a few crackers before I got up. And while it did not stop my sickness it did seem to delay it and soothe my stomach. Keep yourself hydrated.

I also wish I took more pictures while I was pregnant.

I will tell you about something I WISH somebody would have told me about after you have the baby. I woke up 2 days later with a soaking wet shirt and totally drenched. My breast were so large, hard and swollen with milk. Sorry if this is TMI but nobody told me how bad it was! My baby would feed often but if he was asleep I would fill up and my breasts would be so painful and feel like they were full of hard rocks or something. It was the most uncomfortable feeling ever but breast feeding is definitely a relief and worth it.

Good luck! So exciting!

Well, just a few days left. I will be lucky to see 126 at the end. That would be 7 pounds lost. I leave for vacation the 16th, need to get my ass in gear! I think it's safe to say we did not go all out this challenge!

So I started TOM yesterday, stuck at 128 and that's woth bloating and a major choc binge yesterday!

I just got home from the gym, I really want to see 120, wont see it by August first though! Hopefully I can see 125, only 1 week left in the challenge!

Hey Iro, that's great news! 1 day in 9 times is great progress!

Well, my weigh in today was lame! 129. That's 4 pounds since my first weigh in of the challenge. But, small goals should help.

If I want to meet the ten pound mark it needs to be 3 lbs for the next 2 weeks! I can do it if I can just get my ass back in the gym!

Thanks Iro, my son is will be 2 in the fall! Time flies. I think revising your goal is good idea, good luck!

I went for a 3 mile walk, I really want to build up to running. But walking is a start. I am at 1400 for calories. Smoothie for breakfast, fruit leather for snack, sugar free hazelnut capp, homemade taco salad, fiber one bar and smoothie for dinner. I think I will weigh in again on Monday, hoping for 126 or 127. Really want to be 120 by the end! If I can get to 126-127 by the weekend it is possible. Once I hit 120 it's 5-8 pounds to my ultimate goal. Here I come!

Hey hey hey ladies! So our 4th was awesome.

Took us an hour and a half to get to encinitas. Had some cereal before we left. We went to the beach for a few hours and then went for lunch. I had a fruit salad with a scoop of turkey waldorf salad. back to the beach for a few hours, some surfing and then off to roam for fireworks. Had a footlong from subway for dinner. I was so hungry and it was so yummy and budget friendly. I had no cheese on it, lots of veggies, turkey and light oil and vinegar. Fireworks were amazing. Back to the hotel put Mason to bed had 2 Amstel Lights with my hubby in the porch. Great time, very active and decent in the food end. The next moring I skipped the hotel breakfast, grabbed a cup of their coffee and got some beef jerkey for the ride home instead of yummy sticky hotel pastry :)

3 WEEKS LEFT LADIES! WE CAN HANDLE THIS!

I am not weighing for a few days, hoping to see a nice drop so I am gonna wait it out a few. Today I am doing well, eggs for breakfast, nice salad for lunch, an asian pear and a fiber one bar for snacks put me at 800 thus far. Leaving me room for a nice dinner after we play HANDBALL!!! Woo Hoo!

I leave in the a.m. so I figured I would post before I got to bed.

Did pretty well today, still no exercise. I hate finals!!

Chris and I had some stuff to do so we went to Panera. Thought I made good choices, way off! I chose 1/2 fresh mozz and tom salad, cup of turkey chickpea chili and it came with some baguette. Total per Panera website...920cals! Ahh, thank goodness I did not eat all of it and I am so glad I looked it up so I could compensate. I put it in around 850 since I did not finish.

The rest of the day I had miso soup, 100 cal popcorn, dill pickle and a few slices of salami. Random huh? Finihed under 1400. High sodium day for sure, hope the scale does not show it!

My bathing suits came. The pink top is an awesome fit! The bottoms are awkward and they don't sell those bottoms in string style. Bummer. Keeping the top though, I will find a separate somewhere to match it! The brown top is awful! Really awkward padding and lining, looks all bulgy and bulky and wierd. So it's all going back except for the perfect fitting, super supportive pretty pink top. Truly, best bathing suit top ever. I wish they had the bottoms I want!

K, long post. I have been treating this thread like my journal ha ha! I will weigh when I get home Saturday night.

Happy 4th of July!

129.8 this morning! Glad to be under 130. This is always a test for me. Whenever I get under 130 I overindulge. And I will keep bouncing from like 128 to 132. However, if I can get down to 125, game is on!

So, I need to do well today, tomorrow I put on my bathing suit! I am sure to do well on our little getaway. No opportunity to binge, no fridge to raid. Plus at the beach I always want fresh food. We will prob hit the beach first thing, grab some salads and go to the room so Mason can take a nap. Then back to the beach and off for some fresh seafood and a beer and then fireworks! So excited. Here is our cute lilttle hotel. Plus we will be walking and maybe bike riding and surfing so plenty of exercise!

Okay, so I don't know about everyone else but I have had a a slow start on this challenge! So, it is the beginning of a new month, a new chance to move it!

Iro, I can usually only do 1-2 days no carb and then I need carbs!!! But I feel fine and energetic when I do no carb, I just crave them Undecided

Here are the suits I ordered from VS...

Like? I really like support and coverage, I have a lot of trouble finding cute supportive bathing suits! The straps are all adustable so I am hoping to get a good fit without always adjusting and putting my breasts back where they belong!!! Ha ha, thanks breastfeeding!

I will def let you know what I think of them. I have actually never bought anything from VS before, nevermind a bathingsuit on line.

I weighed in this morning at 130.5. I started this challenge at 133, so 2.5  down per my weigh in. Also did really well food wise today so hopefully I can move forward. On Monday I will officially be done with classes and I will be 123 by the end of this challenge!

I am only down about 2 pounds as well. Finals are killing me, I have been on my bum at my desk for days! I am doing no carb today and also hoping to finish my work today! After that it is workout city.

We are hoping to go to the beach thurs or fri...I hope my new bathing suits arrive by then! I ordered a few from victorias secret, I have never ordered on line but if their charts are accurate they should fit. Plus, I love that you can order by bra size instead of S,M, or L. If I do no carb until the beach, I should be feeling relatively confident.

I am hoping to finish my work before night fall so I can go for a run, however, my classes are number one priority right now!

Here's to being beach babes...or soon to be anyways!

I think today might be blown. I can't wait until the next few days have passed and I have more free time so I can work out! I will be pushing it hardcore after classes get out. I will be able to focus on getting in shape.

Just got home from the pool party, potluck style. Had a small piece of homemade pizza, about 3/4 cup of homemade chinese chicken salad a cracker with cheese and some berries. As well as a yummy vodka cocktail, sugary I think and a piece of chocolate. Not terrible given the circumstances. The opportunity to go overboard was there for sure.

Back to work, just wanted to check in! Weigh in on Monday!

Halcy!!! I noticed you are from Clifton Park. I grew up in Saratoga Springs and when my husband and I met he lived in Clifton Park!

So, Mason, Chris and I just got home from the movie and I had no popcorn! Amazing, movie popcorn is prob my favorite treat and it was the first show so it was prop nice and fresh. Instead I had a small diet coke and a serving of animal crackers!

So tonight is the darn pool party :( I really do not want to wear my bathing suit. It will be people from work and their families. One of the girls was on top model for christs sake. 3 have had breast enhancements and lipo and may as well have been on top model and one has the body of a freaking ballerina or something. And they are around my age. I don't look like that. I might be young but I had a baby! My body just does not look like it should. Other less than perfect people will be there too, but I am just really self conscious about it. I sure wish I was my old weight right about now. I would feel much better in my suit at 115 than I will at 130. This is just more motivation to lose weight. I do not want my weight to ever sideline me or stop me from enjoying myself. That's a crappy way to be!

The weekend is here! Ha ha, this actually means nothing to me as I am an online student and I work crazy hours.

Today, I did not squeeze in a workout...I had a busy work day and I am in finals week! Ahhhh. So for fitness I get an F today!

However, I ended the day at 1310 cals! This is the best I have done in weeks. I snuck in an oatmeal cookie. But I feel great about it. I will prob have some green tea while I work on papers and what not.

Tomorrow we are attempting to take Mason to the movies in the theater! First one, I hope he does well. We are going to see Wall E. Then we are supposed to go to a pool party/bbq. Eeek. I really do not want to wear a bathing suit on front of a bunch of people I know. At all!

Have a good weekend!

Welcome, glad you could join us!

K ladies, today was a B+ day per calorie count analysis but also considering what I need to do to get this weight off.

I am ending the day at 1500 calories, not terrible considering how I have been. Made a great dinner of Lamb Sirloin (hope this does not offend) and asparagus. Breakfast and snacks were cereal, i'm obsessed :( , other snacks were coffee, my vice and I will not give it up! I also snuck a handful of ginger snaps. Lunch was Miso soup and a fruit smoothie. I don't feel too ba about my choices. Without the extra cereal snack and the gingersnaps, it would have been great.

And for exercise...the hubby and I went to play handball at a school down the street. We had so much fun! That is def the best exercise! So I feel like today was a good day overall.

I think I will weigh on Monday. Towards the end of my cycle. So here is to a great weekend! Lets do this!

And...I started this morning. I have been PMSing for days so now I am just glad it's here. I am def not weighing myself today!

So yesterday I had a seminar. They served breakfast when we got there but I knew it would be pastry and muffins and such. So I ate cereal at home and just had a cup of coffee.

Then they served lunch. A really nice spread. I took sensible portions and noticed everyone around me had ssooo much more on their plates! So I ate slloooow. I chose some green salad with artichoke and mushrooms, a piece of seabass, cold calamari salad, not fried! Just cold tossd with vinagrette and a small piece of baguette.

Then an hour later they served dessert. Canoli's and a few different cake's. I had.....none!!! I grabbed another coffee and a pellegrino. Go me! Our corporate trainer siad "you are not having any dessert?", I lied and said "I have date night with my husband so I am waiting to have dessert tonight". Total lie!!! But I did not want to say "I am watching what I eat" and hear all the objections to follow! It worked and I felt really good about not having dessert.

I have started today with cereal. I think even though I want low, cereal is a good choice for me, I need high fiber. So I had my new favorite cereal "Good Friends" by Kashi. It's so good! And 33% of your daily fiber per serving.

For lunch I packed a spicy italian sausage and some edamame. I love sausage! Kind of a weakness!

Rest if my food to be determined! Check back tomorrow!

I think I am going to work out, right now!

Sorry for the lengthy post.

Hey mukso, welcome! I am just like you. Sugar and carbs are my enemy and my late night eating is def sabatoging my good efforts during the day!

So, this morning I am magically up to 132. Still PMSing so it should be anyday now.

I am going to do slim in 6 this morning and I am off from work today so I am in complete control of my eating and I am going to do well.

Check in later. Happy Monday .

Hey ladies!

Member76, welcome!

Irothell, your workout plan looks hardcore! For me anyways. I wish I could run 6 miles! I think it looks great, you have a good mix. Stay fueled!

I have been a liitle bad today, I am PMSing! 2 chocolate chip cookies at work :(  However, my weigh in this moring was 130.8. So if I can work out all week and eat sensibly, I think I can see 128 by the end of the week.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

hb- i know that you can kick ass! glad you are here! the wedding is awesome motivation!

I will be back to check in after work tonight..already did 30 day sculpt level 2 this morning. Had miso soup and a peach for breakfast, will have salad for lunch and have packed chiken and brown rice with edamame for dinner. Snacks will be string cheese and almonds.

Yay Ladies! Let's do it! My idea for the challenge is to keep motivated for the full 6 weeks, no it wont be lots of rules and points. It's just simple. Check in, let each other know how we are doing....maybe set ourself little challenges for the day.

For me, for today, my mini challenge is to kick this off the right way. A new beginning. Today I vow to do everything on my list....workout, low carb and lots of water tea. Prove to myself that I can have a good day all around. I usually eat good but don't workout or vice versa. If I want this to work I need to get both areas straight and consistent.

Deb-I added you as a friend :) Thanks for joining.

mjc- We are already friends!! Glad you are joining me, I really want this and I know that you do to.

Well ladies, 6 weeks from now we will be in here congratulation each other. In the meantime, lets keep each other motivated!

Health & Support Dealing with grief May 14 2008

I am very sorry to hear about your mother. It's terrible.

Every death in my family has been due to some sort of cancer and all of the people I have lost led healthy lives. Go figure.

Grief is such a personal thing. One thing I can say is allow yourself to mourn for her when it does happen. I was very close with my grandfather when he passed and I tried to just continue my life thinking if I acted strong I was strong. In the end, that really came back to bite me and it took me a year to actually accept and grieve for him. We made sure that everyone got something of his to keep. I always get sad when I think about it still, but sometimes it motivates me, like I want to make him proud.

You and your sisters are so young. I can't imagine such a loss; and your mother of all people. One thing that may help is to do things with your sisters to remember your mom healthy and happy. If it is not too hurtful, maybe you can put albums together with your favorite photos of her. You guys could chat about your favorite memories.

Maybe most importantly, in being the oldest, is to not take this on by yourself and carry your sisters through. You can be a good role model to them and support them so long as you take care of yourself as well. One thing I remember is being afraid to be happy again. Like I felt guilty to be happy having lost someone I loved, as if it was not fair that he was gone and I was here smiling. Learning to deal with that was huge. And remembering all the times I laughed with him reminded me that he would not want me to be sad. I am sure your mom would want it the same way.

This is one of those times where I really wanted to reply, but am not quite sure what to say. There are no words of comfort and there is no right way to grieve. Now that you have accepted what will happen, I suppose it's one day at a time. Take things as they come, at first the days will get harder and eventually they get easier.

I am so sorry, best wishes to all of you. Cherish these moments with her and smile for her.

Hi,

I am sorry that you are so nervous about this, you should def be happy, it's your prom! Congrats on your recovery.

I just did a google search of Cameron Diaz, she has medium length thin hair so maybe you could find some pictures of her hairstyles, I saw some really cute ones! I would link but I don't know what kind of styles you like, so maybe flip though a few!

Also, I don't want to sound insensitive, I completely understand why you are self conscious about going to get it done. That way they can suggest good styles for thinner hair. Otherwise, maybe a close friend can help you.

Maybe if you find a cute style you could practice it a few times, that way when prom comes you are not feeling nervous and anxious about it because you have a got a cute style down!

I hope you have a great time at your prom!

It's pretty much impossible to gain with a deficit. However, I have stepped on the scale the day after a small deficit and seen a slight gain, like if I had lots of carbs or sodium or lots of weight training. So no worries! You wont gain.

I would like to joint too, I hope that's okay. I figure as long as I hop in before the first weigh in.

I am 25, 5'4 or 5'5 and I weigh approx 130 (I have not weighed myself in a few days, big accomplishment for me, I love the scale!)

I actually had already set this goal for myself! I am going to the east coast to visit family at the end of march and I would love to be 10lb's closer to my goal of 115. I was 117 last year after having my son and then after I went back to work I gained it all back :(. So I know I can do it.

Good luck to everyone! Weigh in on Monday??

My husband and I both have crazy schedules, but I like to cook for us when  I can and he will cook for us too. Sometimes I felt like I was cooking the same things non-stop because I knew the content, this got old fast! I went and got some coko books. A few I like are "Cooking from the hip" and "Deceptively Delecious"...for the baby. I go through and pick new things to make and alter them if needed, veggies in place of heavy starches, brown for white rice. It has worked well and we have found some great new recipes that we both love. Keep experimenting. The "Cooking From The Hip" book contains a few sections, two I like are "easy" and "fast". Good Luck!!!
