just keep in mind that eventually your new puppy will love his crate and will want to go in there whenever he just wants to rest.  in the mean time, good luck.

hi united.  yep, it's been a while.

Thanks for the joyproject link.  Based on their website and the psychiatric criteria for eating disorders, I have successfully ruled out bingeing and eating disorders entirely.

I guess what I am trying to figure out now is this...

Is my relationship with food a compulsion, obsession, addiction or just a really bad habit?  I've always thought I have an "addictive personality" although recently I am thinking maybe it is more of an "obsessive personality".

I'm constantly "picking" - have to do something with my hands all the time, which may mean biting my fingernails, picking my toe nails, rubbing my feet, petting my dog, destroying paper clips, doodling, smoking, eating, etc.

If I'm not eating or working (i.e. busy) or working and eating, I'm smoking.

I obsess about food and weight all the time, but my weight doesn't really change significantly in any direction, so my obsession is a waste of time.  It's just never occurred to me that maybe I have some type of obsessive/compulsive behavior that may be at least in part the reason I am still overweight until today.  Or, are these all addictions like the smoking.  The sugar thing really seems like an addiction because I am beginning to crave sweets all the time now.

And does any of it have anything to do with the fact that I am post menepausal?

I really need to get professional advice I know, but I need to change doctors thru my insurance first which takes a little while.  I don't think my current doctor is the right one for me.  Or maybe I just need to see a shrink.  Or go to some type of group therapy.  I just don't know, but now I am obsessing about my obsessions.

Pilates primarily. Plus treadmill and walking the dog.  Thanks for the reply.  It's good to know I might not be a binger.

I think I must have done that diet in 1990 when I gained all this weight (100 lbs in about a year).  Didn't know it had a name! Who knew?

stephievs, do those heart rate monitors tell you how many calories you burn in a day?  do they just figure it out on their own, or do you have to log your activities?

darn!  i didn't know it was the great american smoke out!

anyhoo...am just checking in...currently doing the patch for "most" of the day...down from 20 cigs to about 4 per day.  The evenings are hardest for me - triggers everwhere, the strongest of which is when I am cooking.  Ironically, this one cig that I smoke when I cook I light as soon as I start, and then it sits in the ashtray and burns all the way down while I'm prepping veggies or whatever, then I get one or two more puffs before it's all gone.  I may or may not start another one to waste the same way, but it is the one that is the hardest for me to quit.  Silly...

i only wish i could get into a size 6 at 138 - heck, I'm the same height and I wear a 12 at that weight.  Goes to show you that no two bodies are the same, and guidelines are just that...guidelines - not laws.

I don't know how much 9 stone is but DAAAAANNNGG!  Dude, you've lost a ton of weight.  WOW!  You look AWESOME!

Just had to say that.

Maybe you've reached your body's goal & don't need to lose more?

Maybe you're eating too many carrots (hi cal for a veggie).

Anyway, great job!

No good news this week.  Start 190, current 184.5, up .5 from last week, but that's cuz I ate too much (I think it just needs to come back out again if you know what I mean ;).  Hoping to be out of the 180's by thanksgiving....that's only .45 lbs per day, do-able, I think.  wish me luck!

i know y'all switched to friday weigh-ins, but i've been doing mondays, so here it is:  Start 190, current 184.5 - up .5 from last week, not a good weekend - splurged - but will be back on track this week.  Still shooting for under 180 by Thanksgiving - 10 days away = .45 lb/day.  It's do-able, right?

avis_rara:

Unfortunatley, I've been sick for 2 weeks, so can't give any advice except what people tell me - oranges and chicken soup.  Lots of oranges (or vit C).  Too bad I wasn't doing that before I got sick!

I will pop in tomorrow to give my weight.  I have been "bloated" due to eating crappy food this weekend, so I am hoping my diet (today) of Iced Tea and watermelon (with a little chicken thrown in) will help me get rid of the waterweight before tomorrow morning.

see y'all tomorrow!
Weight Loss question for people in 110-120 range.... Nov 13 2006

I am 5'2 or 3 (depending on my hair, I think), and I am shooting for 110 lbs.  I currently weigh 185.  What I did was figure out how many calories I would need to sustain 110 at my height and activity level.  It is 1700 calories.  So I am aiming to have less than that every day.  Right now my average is about 1575 per day and I am considered "slightly active".  I've lost 6.5 lbs in a month and hope for more this month.  I guess if I wanted to lose quicker, I'd have to drop my calories more, but since I want a lifestlye change, not a diet, I just concentrate on a good mix of food and smaller portions which gets me under the "mainentance" goal for 110.  Good luck!

the "water gods" lol...I'm sure it is only water weight bringing you up, drink lots of water, eat more fruit - especially watermelon, oranges & other "watery" fruits - have soup before your meal & wait til monday.  patience is key.

I plan to load up on the veggies & turkey, stay away from the gravy, and go minimalist on the banana pudding (my fav).  Then have the banana pudding again for breakfast the next day ;)

But most importantly, stop eating before I feel full, don't over-stuff, don't pig-out on anything at any time.  This will make me feel better about the whole day on many levels.
Weight Loss Me again . . . 'CURVES' . . . tried it? Nov 09 2006
21:59 (UTC)
I loved Curves and went for 4 months.  The first day I thought I'd died - all my muscles were screaming - but by the end of the 4 months, my body had grown used to the machines and as other's have said, the resistance isn't really adjustable, so I couldn't work out any harder.  It became way too easy and I wouldn't even breath hard, much less break a sweat.

Although I liked the atmosphere & the convenience, I had to give it up due to my body's need to work out harder.  It was a great stepping stone, and is good for people who are in really bad shape and/or older who just want to keep their muscles moving on a regular basis (like my mom).

I am sad because....well, I'm not sad.

I am happy because I now weigh 6.5 lbs lighter than I did a month ago, and now weigh the same as I did last year.

So, therefore, I will continue on my "bon voyage"...
