| Don't let dieting ruin traditions. It's just once, it's not making you slip up forever. Live your life, one cone wont hurt! After the cone, forget about it and get back on track. =) | |||

| Oatmeal provides fiber, and it takes a long time to break down in your
stomach, making you full longer and providing less of a spike in
insulin. (Insulin spikes cause your body to store the fat
quicker). And it's low-cal. 150 cals for one serving. =) |

| Oatmeal, oatmeal, oatmeal!!! =) And fruit leather. They are 45 calories each and provide fruit servings and that "something sweet" I tend to crave. =) |

| ...And especially at 13 years old, you should be consuming a lot of
calories. Cutting your calories now is only going to make it easier to
gain weight later. Live life, have fun, and don't worry about dieting.
If you start dieting now, you will be dieting your whole life. |

| I'm with Corliss797. Have fun! One day isn't going to kill you! Every once in a while you just have to enjoy yourself without worrying about it. You don't have to go overboard, but have a piece of cake if you want it. You can get back to normal the next day. | |||
| Weight Loss | resolution | Apr 13 2007 15:39 (UTC) |
|
| Sometimes if I feel really strong cravings and I'm not hungry, I just
leave my house. I go do something else to occupy me until I can get
myself over the idea of unnecessarily eating. Like yesterday, I was
really stressed out (and ready for a binge) so I went to the library
and read for an hour. Try going to the library, going for a quick walk, taking a shower, etc. It helps me to stop. |

| Weight Loss | Ok, I really do not understand this. | Apr 13 2007 15:32 (UTC) |

| It might be easier to think of it in a different way. Instead of "eating what you burn off" from exercise, just try to keep a 500 calorie deficit. Like Librarygirl said, log all of your activities while on a sedentary lifestyle. Subtract 500 from the calories burned, and you have your proposed daily caloric intake. | |||
| Vegetarian | How young is to young to start this life style | Apr 12 2007 21:20 (UTC) |

| I became a vegetarian when I was about 12. My mom and dad both became
vegetarian for health reasons. They never forced it on me, but I was
extremely interested. It was the best thing I did for my body. After
the first two weeks, I noticed my mood was better, my skin was
healthier (acne cleared up), and I was able to think more clearly in
school. It was even better when I switched to being vegan (no animal
product: ex: no cheese, milk, etc.). This is great for your daughter.
She can easily get all the nutrients she needs. Good job on encouraging her! I think that is great! Continue helping her out, and learn a little bit about it so you can help her to make educated choices! A great website is vegweb.org for recipes, or goveg.com. Hope this helps =). |

| I love the "3 square meals" idea For breakfast (7:00 am): Big bowl of oatmeal coffee couple pieces of fruit For Lunch (12:00 pm): Salad Soup or sandwhich with fruit For Dinner(5:30 pm): Rice steamed veggies cereal for dessert =) I change it up, but if I start snacking, I have a hard time stopping...so this way I discipline myself. |

| Vegetarian | Soy and Thyroid | Apr 09 2007 19:48 (UTC) |
6 |
| I have hypothyroidism, and soy definitely effects it. Soy works as a depressant for your thyroid, causing it to produce less of the hormone. Those who do not have hypothyroidism already are not affected the same way, if at all. But if you do have an underactive thyroid, don't eat soy. It makes me feel incredibly tired, even if I've taken my medicine, had plenty of sleep, etc. | |||

| Hey everyone! Sorry I've been gone so long! I was gone for about a
week, and then sick for another =(. But now I'm feeling much better! A
week away from the gym, and an easter "feast" has really taken me away
from my routine, but I'm back. Jppoet, It sounds like you are great with self-discipline! If chips were anywhere near me, I would probably eat half the bag, at least! |

| Welcome Wanda!! I understand how frustrating it is to hear negative
comments about your weight. Especially when you are working so hard to
lose it! But just think... wont it feel amazing when your sister
finally has no other comment to say but, "wow, you look great!" When
you accomplish your goal, the inevitable positive comments are going to
be worth it. And don't worry about your mint shake. If you splurge a little, just let it go. At least you didn't go crazy. Last night I went a little overboard... I had two (!!) cupcakes with cream cheese frosting (and I'm a vegan...oops). Oh well. Let's just stay on track today! =) |

| I work out really early in the mornings. I find it hard to get a work
out in later, because I'm so busy. And some times its hard to find
motivation later! If it is a beautiful day outside, I go mountain
biking, that's probably my favorite thing to do. =) Twindaze, congrats on losing 75 pounds! That's amazing! Keep up the good work! |

| I'm a third year student and a vegan. My favorite thing is oatmeal. So easy to microwave, and it is insanely cheap. Also, black beans with salsa. That's also pretty cheap and provides a good source of protein. | |||

| Hey jppoet! I am 5'1" and I am 123 pounds. I am 21 years old and a
strong Christian. I pray everyday for the motivation to be able to
accomplish my goals, because I know I can't do it alone. I would love
to have a buddy who has the same beliefs and would like another source
of encouragement and someone to pray for them. Katie "Everything is possible for him who believes" (Mark 9:23) |

| Weight Loss | All this talk about carbs and BREAD.... | Mar 26 2007 15:55 (UTC) |
1 |
| Just look at vegans. All we eat are carbs! Of course, they are usually the complex carbohydrates, such as veggies, fruits, and whole grains. Most vegans are typically lean, and a lot of studies have proven the vegan diet to be excellent for weight loss, without any calorie deficit. I would say just based on that, go for all the complex carbs you want!! Carbs are not bad for you, just eat the right kind. | |||

| Don't do it!!! A group of us did this for a nutrition class in college. We ALL got yeast infections in our mouths...be careful! and we weren't all eating the same fruits or even buying them from the same stores. You have to mix it up. That infection was nasty. Trust me, you need something else, or your body is going to react negatively. I'm a vegan, and I was still affected. | |||

| Recipes | Does anyone have a LARGE portion/LOW calorie dinner recipe? | Mar 04 2007 20:00 (UTC) |
|
| You could always bake spaghetti squash in place of regular spaghetti. (cut in half, remove seeds, and face down on baking sheet for 30-40 minutes at 350). When it is all cooked, it is just like spaghetti, and you can pour on tomato sauce. 1 cup of squash is approximately 40 calories (I usually have 3), and you can have a great tomato pasta sauce for about 20 calories. It is extremely filling, and very low cal! | |||

| I have hypothyroidism, and since I've been taking synthroid, I've been able to lose weight. The medicine really brings me back to "normal". One important thing to note, is the generic medicine brands, which are cheaper, do NOT work. The name brand Synthroid is more effective. | |||
