| It may be your form. Make sure to keep both feet on the floor. Then try to pull both shoulder blades underneath your body, like you're pinching them together. This forces your chest up and out in order to isolate it in the movement. Keep your hands spaced fairly widely apart, and perform the motion slowly. You should only really need to do 3 sets of 10-12 reps per exercise. Also try to mix up what chest exercises you're doing to keep your muscles from adapting to the movement. Good luck! |

| Also, I've heard of a training method called "Hypertrophy-Specific Training". The idea is that it is a full-body workout done three times per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). Each exercise is performed with only 1-2 sets, and the weight is slightly increased every workout. For the first two weeks, 15 reps are performed per set. The next two weeks, it's 10 reps per set. And for the final two weeks it's 5 reps per set. This is followed by a week off for "strategic deconditioning" before the entire process is repeated (with increased weights). Would this be better for building muscle than the four day split I suggested above? |

I was previously doing a three day split, like this: Monday: Chest & Back Flat Bench Press Incline Bench Press Decline Bench Press Flyes Wide-Grip Lat Pulldowns Seated Cable Rows One-Arm Dumbbell Rows Wednesday: Legs Leg Press Leg Extensions Seated Leg Curls Standing Calf Raises Seated Calf Raises Thigh Adductor Friday: Arms & Shoulders Dumbbell Bicep Curls Preacher Curls Wrist Curls Wrist Rollers Tricep Pushdowns Dumbbell Shoulder Press Reverse Flyes I also did ab work usually on two of the three days. Do you think a four day split, like the following, would be better for building muscle? I think it might work better considering I'd be working each muscle group twice per week. Monday & Thursday: Chest, Back, Biceps & Abs Incline Bench Press Flat Bench Press Flyes Deadlifts Wide-Grip Lat Pulldowns Seated Cable Rows Dumbbell Bicep Curls Concentration Curls (plus abs) Tuesday & Friday: Legs, Shoulders, Forearms & Triceps Squats Seated Leg Curls Standing Calf Raises Seated Calf Raises Standing Military Press Side Lateral Raises Reverse Flyes Wrist Curls Wrist Rollers Triceps Extensions Triceps Pushdowns Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday would be off days for rest. How does this look? |

| Thanks for the help. I've been lifting free weights for the last 7 months, so I don't really want to go to machines. I'm just wondering how I should change my approach for my new goal of gaining some muscle? |

| I've been doing HIIT at the gym for about the past two months and I've found it works EXTREMELY well. I've lost a lot of weight since I've started, and my stamina has definitely improved. Plus I love that you can do an entire cardio session in 20 minutes, which would normally take 30-40. | |||
| Weight Loss | Fibre supplements with weightloss??? | Jan 27 2007 22:41 (UTC) |

| If you're regular and don't have high cholesterol, I don't think a fiber supplement is necessary. You can, however, eat foods high in fiber. It adds bulk to the food, making you feel fuller. But at the same time it is mostly indigestible, so it adds very few calories. Perfect for weight loss! |

Getting into the groove of exercising regularly. What has been the easiest thing about losing? Staying within my calorie limit. I thought it would be hard, but my limit allows me quite a bit of food, so it keeps me pretty full. What is the best thing about losing? When other people notice and compliment you. I love it. |

| Weight Loss | Percentages- HELP!! | Dec 29 2006 00:35 (UTC) |

| I'd just like to chime in and say that 60-65% carbs in your diet is not bad. I believe the recommended is 45-65% carbs, so it sounds to me like you're okay in that range. |

| Fitness | haven't been able to workout | Dec 22 2006 05:59 (UTC) |

| I've been going through exams at school lately so I haven't been able to go to the gym. I had to take a week off, then I was able to go once, and then I had to take another week off. Let me tell you, it's been really difficult to get back into it. I feel sore like back when I was just starting, and even when I was there it just didn't feel like a "good burn". But it's worth it. I wouldn't say I lost any of my cardiovascular endurance. It just didn't feel very good. haha. But the next time I went I felt a lot better. So it's not a big deal. |

| Weight Loss | How did you get started? | Dec 22 2006 05:37 (UTC) |

| For me it was sort of a gradual realization, followed by a sudden change. I was noticing my continual weight gain. Plus I was taking a nutrition course at school. The course really pushed me over the edge and made me realize the harm I was doing to my body by eating all the junk food and not exercising. One day it finally just clicked that I had to change my ways. So I did some research on the proper ways to lose weight and set to it. I've lost 25 pounds so far, and could probably stand to lose another 20. But I'm already looking and feeling a lot better. So I'm glad I did. |

| I was a little wary about going to the gym the first few times too. But then I realized that nobody's really looking at you. Everybody's too concerned with themselves and their workouts. It's not a fashion show. Just go and do it for yourself. | |||
