"serithe- Get a life. She was trying to post something nice for the ladies here and you're being an a**. Get over yourself."

She may have had her heart in the right place, but her mind evidently didn't pick up on the blatant contradictions in her own post.

This is a ruse, whether intentional or not. It pretends to be a means of lifting up women, cultivating their self-esteem, but it merely follows the same patterns that got them into the pit of bodily self-loathing they're in now.

There were some points that are worthy of consideration, such as the one about how tabloids have those candid photos of celebrities without their makeup on. The implications are obvious...The presence of those photos screams things that the magazines themselves would never dare print: How dare these women show their hideous, unprimped faces in the privacy of their own homes?! Look at how disgusting they are! So, does this mean women are inherently uglier than men, since they can be attractive naturally, and we can't? Huh?

But when it comes down to the quotes by men about they want, the entire point of the piece explodes. For instance, she states that "some have alien matter such as silicon inserted into their chests" and "even the less radical of us buy padded bras"...Fair enough, women go to great lengths to appeal to the male desire for large breasts. But then at the end, nearly every male in the quotes section expresses a desire for just that:

"I like a nice shapely rack..."
"That said, I nearly always check out her breasts..."
"I usually notice a woman's breasts first, because that's generally where I'm looking..."

So, no to the silicon, or yes? And is this just boosting one body type at the expense of another? Scrawniness carries its health issues, but so does being overweight. Studies show that even 10 lbs. of extra weight can lower life expectancy and boost the risks of certain diseases. If a woman reads this and decides she needs to put on extra weight to appeal to men's desire for an "hourglass figure," who is she really helping, and who is she really harming?

It proves that some of them like curvy ladies; the rest will laugh in private about what fat hogs they are.

So what now? Shall we cater to their apparent new fancy for "curviness"? Let's all pork up then!

Oh, and they want big boobs too; they made that loud and clear. Better save up for that breast augmentation, ladies! Nice eyes and hair too, they all stressed that over and over again. Not sure what can be done about eyes; perhaps a nice thick coat of mascara and maybe a shot of Botox will do the trick.

Or, and here's a crazy thought, we can stop obsessing over what men think of us and put our health, or minds, our lives first, for once.

Here is an article telling us to stop looking to society to define how we should look.

And at the end of it, we have a the opinions of a bunch of men on how we should look.

Am I the only one who senses some hypocrisy here?

If you're prone to grazing like I am, you need to be smart about what you graze on: look strictly at calorie count, and go as low as you can.

Yes, grazers can be thin. I eat very, very frequently and am underweight, because everything I eat is carefully chosen. I think grazing does keep your metabolism high.

Salads are good. Start with a lettuce base and add onions, mushrooms, alfalfa sprouts, celery, etc. No nuts, no cheese, and no croutons. And definitely no meat. As for dressing, you could go for one of the calorie-free Walden Farms varieties, or just pick another brand with a naturally low calorie count, like Balsamic Vinaigrette. When I say "low," I'm talking about 15 calories or fewer, and please: don't use too much.

Carrots and celery are fine, but what you dip them in is critical. Go as low in calories as you possibly can. No peanut butter, no ranch dip (though you may be able to get away with Walden Farms'). If you find a very low-calorie dip you like, this could be a good choice.

Asparagus and spinach are rock-bottom in calorie count. If you can find a way to make use of them, go for it.

Fruit is your other option, but once again, watch calories. A fruit is not a fruit; they vary a lot in calorie count. No bananas. No pears, and probably, no apples. Cantaloupe is okay, but cut it into small pieces. Same goes for watermelon. Grapes will probably be the most reasonable in terms of being able to grab them while shuffling through a book.

If you're adventurous, you could try some of the vegetable "taste-alikes" of various foods, like kale chips. Hungry Girl has a good page about them here:

I've tried a lot of their stuff out, so I'll divulge some of my opinions of a few of their items and whether or not you should give them a try yourself:

MARINARA SAUCE: No. It tastes nothing like any marinara sauce I'm used to. Also, I'm curious how a serving with zero calories can have one gram of protein, since one gram of protein always has four calories. But according to law, they can round down, I guess.

SCAMPI SAUCE: No. This already has limited use, and it just plain tastes "off." Don't bother.

DRESSINGS: Depends. Some of them can make decent stand-ins for your normal high-calorie dressings. If you can find a "diet" alternative with 25 calories or fewer, go with that; if not, you might give one of these a try.

CHOCOLATE SYRUP: Yes. This stuff is great for making calorie-free hot cocoa, too.

PANCAKE SYRUP: Yes. This stuff is really good and can stand up to any high-calorie regular pancake syrup. Great for mixing into winter squash puree.

MARSHMALLOW DIP: No. God, this was terrible. Tastes nothing like marshmallow.

CARAMEL DIP: No. Bad consistency, and way too chemical. Pass.

KETCHUP: No. The worst of the bunch; runny, tastes nothing like ketchup, just plain awful.

Please keep in mind that these are usually more expensive than other brands, so gauge whether you really need them.

Peanut butter in moderation is actually good for you Serithe - it's when you eat too much of it that it's bad :-)

You're right, but...well, let's say you don't come to this forum because you're good with moderation.

Pasta...guh. I really, really would not recommend it. Way too many calories in the stuff.

If you're really adventurous, try sauteed mung bean sprouts with basil, oregano, garlic, and low-calorie spaghetti sauce. It's great!

They aren't exactly terrible, but there are definitely smarter ways to spend your calorie allotment. Frankly, I think all cereal is bad. It's just too easy to eat a whole lot of it.

Make sure you're using a measuring cup, and factoring in the calories from milk (It's best not to drink the milk after you've polished off the cereal).

"Why do you need a machine to make ice tea? I use an ice cube tray and a pitcher--low tech but I would rather have the counter space. Instead of Spenda, try adding mint. It gives it a fresh taste that does not need sugar or other kinds of sweetner."

Maybe it's me, but I don't think it tastes nearly as good unless it's brewed. If you like your method -- or the powder, or god forbid, the ready-made kind -- hey, whatever cuts the mustard.

Very impactful film...What bothered me, though, were some of the comments left, mostly by male viewers that completely missed the point of the ad:

"the girl in the beggining was ugly, but the one at the end was pretty hot."
mf4633

"God i have enough of this video.

She's not pretty, before nor after.

Cut it out, we know most women are ugly!"

shuut

(In response to: "They should show this on primetime tv so young girls see this and don't throw up every day to become this.")

"so instaed they'll eat 50 cheese burgers with fries and a gallon of chocolaty syrup every 3 hours, yay!"
MrMcDick

"that's why you women need make-up cause you look like shit with out it"

"Woman will want to tart themselves whether there's these stupid ads or not. They're Superficial creatures, and they (woman) have been putting make-up on their faces since well... recorded history began."
gundamzeta209

"All that makeup and photoshop and they never did fix her crooked jaw."
KurNorock

"yes it is, fat is the ugliest thing that can happen to a human being... and the worst: you choose to get fat by nonstop eating. there's no excuse for being fat. I hate fat ppl. I mean, even if a girl is like 10lbs more than normal, her ass gets cellulitis, which is goddammit ugly ugly ugly ugly"
TheVerySpecialThommy

"So people should be striving to be like that spotty dog at the start of the video? I would dump my fiance in a second if she came home looking like that. Most models are hot to begin with and don't need that much touchup work anyway - they had to do a lot of enhancement to that model because she was a moose to start with - of course she needed work! Would you buy skin cream advertised by a spotty, acne-ridden moose?"

Consider the fact that if you do eat some meat, you'll likely end up pretty sick from it due to the shock to your body from not eating it for so long.

I read about a lady who did what you almost did. She was so disgusted she spit it out, trashed it, and never ate meat again.

INTP.

Tested several times, always come out the same. Very rare type, especially among women. Maybe that's why nobody understands me.

I'm curious as to why INTP's are so common elsewhere but not here. Perhaps they don't end up with weight problems as often as the other types, especially F's?

Ha...I don't even have weight trouble. I'm underweight, in fact.

This is an unfair comparison; wanting only a "perfect 10" (as some men seem to) is not the same as not wanting someone who is ridiculously obese.

Observe so many sitcom and movie pairings. How many fat guys do you see with slender, knockout wives? Alternatively, how many overweight women do you see with buff, attractive husbands?

Most men hold women to much higher visual standards than most women hold men. And with that, their standards on personality drop drastically. A cute girl can be forgiven for her dimness and poor work ethic, but even women will turn on a hunk who has little regard for others and refuses to carry his weight.

Perhaps I am cynical, but I have seen it too many times.

People eat salads, but if my visits to Jason's Deli are any indication, people screw them up by dumping cheese, nuts, eggs, fatty dressings, etc. onto them.

My salad contains...

A romaine/spinach blend (less than 5 calories)

Onions (about 10 calories, for a lot of them)

MUSHROOMS! Tons and tons of mushrooms! I looove mushrooms (15 calories for a *lot*)

Sprouts (10 calories for a 1/2 cup, which is a lot of sprouty goodness)

Balsamic Vinaigrette (Mmmm...5 calories/2 tablespoons)

That comes down to...45 calories. 45!!

So basically, you can be like me and have a huge, awesome, salad that you can easily get seconds and thirds of, or you can screw up and wreck your diet with cheese and eggs and Thousand Island. Your call.
Foods Protein Shakes Oct 20 2006

Ah! Ignore the first response about "icky" protein shakes. I have protein "shakes" every day...they're fantastic.

I've tried several brands; all are quite good, but my current fave are the Spring Valley vanilla kind. I don't make it like the directions tell you to...Here's what I do...

1. I squirt a tiny bit of water in my shake-making cup (You can probably buy one at, like, GNC...That's where I got mine) and dust some granular Splenda in it.

2. I put in two scoops of the mix (Most brands have a serving of one scoop, but Spring Valley's is two) and dust on a bit more Splenda.

3. I pour a quarter-cup of water on top. This is far less than the directions state, but I'm making something more akin to yogurt or pudding rather than a shake).

4. I pull the stems off three strawberries and squeeze them in, juice and "leftovers" and all.

5. I put the lid on and shake it!

This is best eaten with a long spoon, since it will cling to the cup. Takes a little while to eat, but that's a good thing in my book. Absolutely delicious.

100 calories and 20 grams of soy protein per serving. If you can't get protein elsewhere, have two a day.
