| hey, girl. don't worry, you can do it! & you will. ;) i can't relate as in your weight, but i can definitely relate in being fearful of the scale & NOT wanting others to know it. I can remember times of not doing it in front of friends... friends that don't have a weight issue, will never know the exact number! my trainer knows & there were knots in my stomach as i had to step on the scale for my first meeting with her. I get knots in my stomach at the dr's office, too. UGGG. i know what you mean about wanting to crawl in a hole!
Plus, no sense in weighing at the gym anyway. if you're gonna weight, weigh at home or gym @ the same time/place each week. & no one but you has to know what it says! i think you are right, though, in just not worrying about what the scale says & watching what your clothes do. At some point you'll be ready to get on that scale & when you do, you'll be thrilled at how much you've lost!!! But for now, just watch the clothes get baggy & yourself feel better. :) Scales are scary b/c sometimes when you've been working hard & they don't budge you think you aren't losing when really you are (sometimes the scale takes awhile to figure out what your body is doing!) ;) It can be discouraging when it shouldn't be. i'm melissa but all my friends call me Mel. You're in the right place. I have been encouraged so much on here. I am 5'6, age 28 & i weigh 242 right now. I started at 249. It is slow for me...but it is happening. & it will happen for you too! :) :) |

| yep! i have been at this eating right & exercising for 4 weeks now & haven't lost a pound! Yet my clothes are fitting better & people have made comments like "have you lost weight?!" so maybe it is coming off & the scale just doesn't realize it yet. ;)
i am 246 currently at 5'6 so i have a ways to go! we can do it! :) |

| well i don't have any suggestions (i'm 28 & not married yet, no kids!) but i just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS & i'm sure you will do GREAT! Let us know how it went telling the fam at Thanksgiving! i'm sure they'll be excited! i looked at your profile & i LOVE your doggie! I have a shih tzu. My sister & her hubby have a pug! :)

| I just completed my first week. & i've already learned some things. 1. I really CAN do this. 2. the support of friends--even online ones i've never actually met---goes a LONG LONG way. ;) 3. the reason i may have failed other diets is b/c (1) i wasn't really looking at calories in them... just trying to "eat right" w/o any guide or food diary & (2)i DEFINITELY was not looking at sodium. I have significantly lowered my sodium intake with this b/c of advice of some C-C members. 4. i am way more addicted to caffeine than i ever knew. i didn't intentionally quit caffeine with this diet. But i used to have a giant mug in the morning AS my breakfast. This week i was advised to EAT breakfast & i jsut didn't want coffee with it. I have quit cokes. So this is probably the cause of the MAJOR MAJOR headaches i have had all day Wed-Fri last week! 5. that i can succeed. the weight really will come off!! I lost 4.5 in my first week! I know that is more than i may continue to lose!! i know 1-2 pounds is great! But i was surpised & ecstatic to lose that much in my first week! :) |

Ok, andi, in answers to your questions. i really think this website has played a MAJOR role in helping me. b/c i have said before that i have tried to lose weight & would lose 0 sometimes after a great week. But staying in a low calorie range Mon & making D! Then making a C on Tues.... then posting this bulletin asking for help... it really helped. Lowering my sodium has to have been a good thing. Eating more fruits & veggies too. :) I have still not exercised & i do want to improve that! Also, i don't even want to drink diet drinks! Only water! I am finishing that 12 pack of diet cokes...but i only have 1 left! & then i am done! I have still been drinking TONS of water though! This has helped me so much! & i am so thankful! :) :) I am going to KEEP IT UP! |

I got on the scale this morning after one week & i had lost FOUR AND A HALF POUNDS!! Can that be right? i weighed the same time/day/way i did last week! I was gearing myself to talk myself out of being depressed if i had not lost anything!! & hoping i would at least lose 1! OMG! I am PUMPED!!! :) :) :) Thanks for all your help!! WAHOO! Ok, bye! :) |

| omg! this was my first weigh-in. Last week on Monday when i started i weighed 249. This morning, i weighed 244.5!!!! OMG! I am so happy! I can't believe it!
I am in the monday weigh-in club & i always do it before showering & after peeing too! :) haha. |

| Jennifer & Andi!! Thanks for the comments. :) OK! I am so happy today! I knew grocery shopping would be SUCH a good thing! haha. I got an A on my daily log analysis for yesterday's food. Now i am not saying i did perfect, i know i shouldn't necessarily eat that LATE or that maybe i didn't have enough calories (?), or that i should nix the starbucks altogether (hey, when your boss sends you & pays for it, it's hard to say NO! at least i get the nonfat tall size now!).... But i am DEFINITELY happy with my progress! It is a learning process! Ok, so anyway... after the food, i'll respond to your comments! so here it is:
Breakfast--9am: special k meal bar-- 190 & a bottled water-- 0 Lunch--12:15pm: a wrap @ home: wheat tortilla, ham, natural guacamole, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce---total cals: 295 & a banana (105) & bottled water. Snack--3pm: kettlecorn, snacksize, low cal: 100 Snack--4pm: tall nonfat pumpkin spice latte: 220 Supper/on way to rehearsal/530pm: Dannon light & fit crave control peach yogurt (has cereal in it)--- 70 cals + a bottled water after rehearsal snack/9pm: some tortilla chips with guacamole 155 9:30/still hungry: 1 apple 55 9:40: cup of skim milk with nestle quick: 90 TOTAL CALORIES FOR THE DAY: 1380!! Whaaat!?!? :) Haha. Well, ok, like i said, i know it isn't PERFECT, but i scored an A & not a D & C like previous days. Plus that is way better than the days previous. More healthy choices, i ate breakfast, no cookie dough....you see? 1380 seems about right to me, b/c i think the site said for me to have no more than 1600 cals a day & someone on here said no less than 1200. What do you think? Jennifer, your comment about nerds cracked me up! you are right about color! & thanks for your suggestions! Andi, don't worry about tobethins. i didn't respond to it b/c either that person is discouraged right now about eating himself (which makes me get bitter too!) or he is just here to get a rise out of me & i don't mind that, i can ignore it! so don't worry. did not bother me in the least. i did not work out yesterday! i am sorry. this weekend for sure! ok? please respond soon!! ya'll are awesome & you can't know how MUCH help you've been to me!!!!!! | ok, cyoung & andi, i am answering both your questions randomly so read on :)
andi, hahaha, that is what i meant to say!!! I PROMISE! LOL. TYPO for real! Haha. Anyways. thanks so much to you for all the advice & help, both of you. i will probably just exercise after rehearsal. I know it would be good to do it in the morning, but mornings kill me. seriously, when i get to work my boss laughs at me b/c i just look UNTHRILLED i have never been a morning person, even as a child. NIGHT OWL. lunches, maybe i could, i go home on lunchbreaks with my coworker kristen & we eat together @ my place. She is thin i think she would die if i told her we would start working out! i think i will try doing it after rehearsal & see how that works. if not, i may have to just start getting up earlier! MORNINGS!! :o] our apartment does have a gym! & i have a dog... a shih tzu. he may slow me down with his short little legs! but he would so enjoy it! but i may use the treadmill at our apt fitness ctr. go to my profile & click "add to friends" But i don't think we can have seperate conversations...idk. but you can then read my journal daily & comment to that! haha. or i can give u my email address. & cyoung, i was thinking about tossing that cookie dough, maybe just give it to a friend who could stand to GAIN weight HAHA! But then i thought our church has a potluck the first sun of every month, so maybe since that is next Sun, i could just bake them ALL & take them & be RID of them! Of course, that would mean NOT eating dough while making them! ;) Well i can do it. but i have not even been tempted to go get them today or yesterday! now ask me when it's that time-of-the-month & maybe i will have made a mistake. ;) anyways thanks so much for the encouragement! i am doing great & i CAN do this! |

ok so you were not screaming at me! well, what part of cali do you live in? i am way down here in baton rouge, louisiana. i am into acting so i have wanted to live in cali for years just b/c of that! haha. but then last year i went to L.A. for the first time ever & i liked some of it... i LOVED santa monica though. i often see cali stuff on the travel channel & it is so beautiful. ok so i am rambling. today so far this is what i have had: breakfast: a special k breakfast meal bar (they are new) & WATER (NO COFFEEE & I ATE FOOD!! I told you grocery shopping would help!) lunch: a wheat wrap with ham, shredded cheese, lettuce & some guacomole. but it is good for you guacomole! the analysis on here gave it an A when i entered all the data. Anyway... i had a banana with it. so far today my analysis gave me an A-!!! Ok i had a D on Mon & a C on Tues & Wed!! SO i am proud of the change. :) I have two bottled waters & a thing of yogurt in the fridge here at work. one of the waters is for rehearsal tonight & the other & yogurt is for when i get starving around 3! LOL. so i am doing better. as far as moving, acccckk, i don't know. the only time i can do it is when i get home from rehearsal tonight & i am usually wiped out by then! but i will do it, just for you! acck, ok, saying that, i know i am lying. but i NEED TO! & i want to!! I usually get home from rehearsal by 9. surely i can do it, Right?!?! thanks for your encouragement so much!! I NEEEEEED THAT! Keep sticking to YOUR goals & you will def. be in the food service industry! OK? :) :) :) |

I won't be much help with the 1200 diet thing (i'm eating the same amount & am new too!) except to say maybe to check out all the advice the ppl gave me in the Weight Loss Forum. | WOAH! I got here this morning & checked the journal & had some pretty um.... fired up responses! But thank you! Ok, sorry, what i meant by "i am now eating what i know is eating right..." i KNEW that the 2 days weren't GREAT... i knew that the fast food was BAD...& i def knew i needed to hit the grocery store. I guess by "eating right" i was meaning... compared to my formal lifestyle of COKE COKE COKE CANDY & FAST FOOD GALORE! LOL. But i totally get what you mean & you can totally yell at me. ;) i need it. i want this really bad & i swear, no more failure for me, i am going to do it this time!! ok, so today i am MORE motivated than ever! my eating yesterday was similar to the first two (except NO fast food), but i went to walmart yesterday & stocked up! i now have healthy choices for BREAKFAST (yes, ME, breakfast), lunch/dinner AND SNACKS! A big prob for me is not having snacks. I want to AVOID mindless eating & so i made sure to get some stuff. Also, i got NO SODA, not even DIET! I got tons of bottled water. Now i do have the rest of my diet cokes in the fridge (there are only like 6 left) & then that is IT. Also, that stupid cookie dough i bought months ago from a fundraiser that just came in? I stuck it WAY in the back of the freezer. So if i want some that bad, it'll be a workout just to get to it! haha. I'm kidding. i don't mind the screaming at me. That is why i love this site. Not for the screaming, but i mean, for the accountability & encouragement! :) but if that includes screaming, that is cool, i am not easily offended. Keep in mind, though, this IS my first week! My first two days would have never been posted if i had not realized that i was doing SOMETHING wrong! You know? That is why i posted. So in the morning, i will post what i had all today & you will see an improvement! :D THANKS!! |

| Thanks so much for your help, all of you! I want to win this thing, but i am kind of perplexed right now! Soon i will hit walmart to get some healthy groceries. The choco chip cookie dough is from a fundraiser that a guy at work was doing when i was in "i give up" mode & i bought from him & they just came in FRIDAY! I'm like GREEAAAT, thanks a lot! I guess i could give them away!!
The fast food is not normal, i mean, when not doing well, i can eat fast food non-stop, but when i eat right, i know what to do! I just have got to get into FRUITS & VEGGIES & it's not that i dislike them, i just don't typically crave them! i crave carbs! I will have to get over that! Also a friend told me that she would not even start exercising till i get the eating figured out & stuff. keep the advice coming, please! :) |

| i completely disagree with him. thinking he shouldn't have been telling you that was your gut feeling & i would go with that! my sister used to be a personal trainer & all she had to do was fly to dallas & take a some classes & a test. She was a good trainer, but i am just saying.... many of them are excellent & many of them just say what they think. or they read something & go with that as their complete beliefs. but there are MANY different "beliefs" of how many cals are too much! i think that if you ate less cals than you are now, that it would be a BAD thing! you know? what do i know, i am fat also! but i just seriously think he has no clue what he is talking about!!
& for him to say you need to join something specific? you are probably getting lots of accountability on here. |
