Hi everybody

156.8 this morning on the scales. Didn't budge for about a week and then suddenly 1.2 pounds comes off all at once! I like days like today.

I'm off on a business trip for 3 weeks in mississippi and I'm dreading the fried food. I love that stuff and I don't know if I have the self control to say "no".

Hey, thanks for the encouragement ltlmsmftt!

I went home that night and danced around with my MP3 and headphones for an hour. A weird kind of combination of dancing and old moves I remembered from aerobics classes years ago. I strapped my wrist and ankle weights on (10 lbs total) and just kept moving for an hour.

The next day I had a business lunch, and that's the worst combo for me....restaurant food and someone else is paying. Usually I can't resist something fried or covered in cream sauce. I had a salad without dressing!

Today I weigh 158.8 so I'm back in the 150's again. Yay!

Hi everyone I've been having a bad month eating too much junk and feeling stinky about it, so I thought I'd join in to rejuvenate my enthusiasm. I hit 159 just before Christmas, and since then snuck back up to 161. I wanna be in the 150's again!! It was so exciting the day I hit that weight and I bought a pair of size ten pants for the first time EVER (well, I probably wore size ten when I was ten years old)

I don't have a gym membership, and today was one of the few days I brought the car to work instead of walking. (I'm in Boston, and it was 9 degrees when I left home this AM) but thank you for your motivation. I'm going home to do something exercisey. Not sure what - an hour of dancing around in my pajamas maybe?? I have been getting really down about wasting the past month, but you're right there's nothing I can do about that now.

Hey, I just finished my posting about how I stuffed too much food and then I found yours on the same topic. I am totally with you.... I have been eating junk and ruining my calories for the day, and don't know why I put myself through this. Even while I'm eating it I know I shouldn't be, but I can't stop. It doesn't even taste that great and I hate that bloated feeling afterwards.

How did you go the next day?

I can totally sympathise -it's so annoying when wait staff just don't listen. I can't count the number of times I've been dining out and said "I'm watching my weight so could I swap the fries for steamed veges?" and the waiter says "Sure!" and brings me steamed veg with butter melted over it!! I totally agree with others, you just have to spell it out, and also ask them to repeat your order back to you to be sure they've got it right. I would have sent it back, too.

It's all about other people justifying their own size. Everyone wants to think they're "average", and If they admit you're a normal size, then they have to admit they're overweight.

Don't you love how you politely refuse food at family events, and they keep pushing, and you keep saying no, and finally your Mom/Grandma/Uncle says "Oh, you're always making such a fuss now that you're on this diet"

159 this week. Oh boy, a huge loss of .2 of a pound. Probably only because I cut my nails last night!

It's been a tough week. Clients have been torturing me - sending me cookies, chocolates, and gift baskets. I'm being pretty good about giving most of it away (most - not all!!)

Good news is my goal was to get my "trend" weight below 159 before Christmas, and I did that this past week

159.2 today.
Last week I said my goal was to break below 160 by the holidays, so I'm really pleased. I was having trouble losing weight for the past few weeks, but I increased my calories like so many of you suggested - and it worked great!!

Thanks for the advice.
Weight Loss under calories? Dec 08 2006

Hi there,
I'm pretty new to this myself but there are lots of posts you can search for on this site  that exactly cover this problem of eating too few calories. Sorry, I don't know how to paste the links in here, not much of a techie!!
1200 is the recommended daily calorie minimum, so if you're working out every day I'd say it sounds like you're definitely not eating enough and your body may be freaking out and storing what little nutrition it is getting.

Personally, I was eating around 1700 calories in the beginning and I was losing weight, then I dropped my calories down to 1300 and my weight plateau'd. Thanks to advice from folks here I was brave enough to go back up again, now I'm eating around 1500/1600 and the weight is coming off again. It felt weird to increase my food intake, but I'm so glad I did.  After a month of no results, I ate more food and in just two days the weight was sliding off!

I couldn't bear it if I couldn't have a drink with my friends on the weekends so when I started counting the calories I did a bit of research on what would have the biggest affect for the least calories. (Man, that sounds pitiful now that I write it down!!)  I've moved away from my usual wine, and now  I go for a shot of those flavored vodkas (watermelon, raspberry, orange etc) with diet sprite or 7up. The raspberry one is also nice with diet coke. One of those is about 90-100 cals.

I find  two of these drinks is enough to put a silly grin on my face, and then for the rest of the evening I drink the soda without the shot added. Yeah, I'm a cheap drunk.

Yum! You're making me hungry talking about Sushi!!

Sushi is one of my guilt free "treats". My advice; watch the number of pieces you eat. The rice can add up the calories quite fast if you start having more than 4 pieces. Also avoid the tempura and anything with that creamy sauce drizzled over it. With the california rolls, watch out for pieces that have oversized chunks of avocado (unless you're wanting some fat for your daily intake, in which case I guess its the healthiest kind you can get!)

I sometimes find the next day I weigh high - but it goes away again. I think its all that salt in the soy sauce making me retain water.

Enjoy your night!

Thank you all for your advice and thoughts!
I'm having 1600 cals today. I think I'll try 1600 for a while.  I do walk to work, half an hour each way, but as I'm not breaking a sweat I've never  really thought  it counts for much - but maybe I'm not giving my body enough calories with only 1300 AND the walking.

161.2 Well, the good news is it's .4 pound less than last Friday so downwards is always good. Had a big spike a couple of days after Thanksgiving - shot up 2 pounds, but its gone again now and I've been really careful ever since. But: I'm getting a bit sick of being at 161-point-something. Seems like I've been hovering around here a while. The first 8 pounds came off so nicely, now I'm struggling to lose half a pound a month!

My goal for the next couple of weeks is to break below 160 before Christmas Day.

Anyone else been wrestling with the same weight for weeks?

161.6 today .4 up since last friday. I've been hovering around the 161 mark for a while now. Must be time I stepped it up a notch. I don't want to go any lower on my calories, so I guess it's time I got this body moving!!

Cmora, good on you for checking the irish cream before drinking it. I just kind of buried my head in the sand for most of yesterday. I'd looked up some calorie values before heading to my sister's, but then all those good intentions got thrown out the window. I stayed over at her place, and was seriously considering having chocolate cream pie for breakfast, but I did manage to walk away from that one.

I know what you mean about being starving hungry now. Isn't it ridiculous? I ate 3 days worth of food in 1 day, and now my body says "more more more!". You'd think I wouldn't be able to face food for days. Good point about sticking with target calories to avoid the binge/purge cycle. I don't consider myself a binger but I guess that would be exactly what I was doing if I tried to lower my cals too much today to punish myself for yesterday.

{In a way its a good thing.. because I havent seen anyprogress with weight loss.. but I now know that my months of conscientious effort are having a very real effect on binging...} Good to hear that you've found some positive news in all of this

Perhaps it's jealousy or a bit of sabotage? They may not be doing it intentionally, but perhaps if you're looking better and feeling more confident your friends are subconsciously trying to take you down a peg or two by pointing out the things that are still "wrong" rather than helping you celebrate your successes? Don't let them win!

I'll never understand those friends and family who think that their negative comments are motivating. My husband had me in tears the other night when he said my 30 minute walk to and from work was hardly worth the bother and I'd never see results until I got into some kick-ass serious fitness activities. I felt just like you, I thought why do I bother trying to be healthy? Why am I walking in the rain and the cold if "everyone" thinks that this is just a pathetic excuse for physical activity ? It made me want to take the car to work every day the following week but I walked instead and with every footstep on the pavement I imagined stomping on his smug face.  Not that I'm bitter, or anything!

Yes, I've lost a wee bit of weight between the first yoga class and the last.  Sorry to continue to be dense, but is that how it works? The less you weigh the less you burn? Does that mean I'll have to exercise more and more as my weightloss progresses in order to get similar results ?

Hi Lilreditalian,
saw your hot chocolate on your list...
Have you tried Nestle carb select fat free? It's 25 cals as opposed to the 160 cal version you're drinking. It's still really yummy, even when made with mostly hot water and just a tiny bit of milk, and I'm pretty passionate about my hot chocolate - so I'm fussy!

I can totally sympathise. When I started CC just a few weeks ago the goal computer calculated  1600 calories for me. I was doing that ok, and losing weight, but once I dropped below a certain weight  the computer recalculated me at 1300 calories per day. I'm finding 1300 SO HARD I can't even imagine trying to do 1200! I do agree with what others said about calorie dense foods. On 1600 I was able to have little treats like those oreo 100 cal packs  and still make the numbers work out, but now I look at those cookies and think - do I really want to blow 100 calories on these when I could have something more satisfying and  filling like a banana??  That's the only way I can think of to get through it . I am trying to exercise but I don't really trust the extra calories that the exercise log tells you you've earned. I find myself second guessing whether I walked hard and fast enough to really have burned what they say I did.

I think when they're as big as that guy it's too dangerous to do any kind of gastric bypass, lipo, or any other surgery because he'll just die on the operating table. They wouldn't even be able to work out how much anesthetic to give him. I saw that show, too, and like you guys just couldn't understand why his wife kept bringing him food. If he get's cranky and hollers, just shut the door and walk away. What's he going to do? Chase her?! I also thought the daily task of wiping the squashed poop out of his butt crack would be enough to inspire her to stop feeding him - there's no way that guy was able to get himself to the bathroom so that clean up must have been her responsibility. Eeew! He definitely had some serious issues. I know exactly why I'm carrying extra pounds and I know that other people eat less than me and exercise more, but he did not seem to have that understanding. If I remember the show correctly, this guy was having an entire loaf of bread made into sandwiches as his "snack" and was arguing that everyone else ate the same way. His food quantities were ridiculous and he was really stubborn and saying he ate like a normal person. I guess he's been cut off from other people, and reality, way too long. Shame that the poor guy died, but like everyone says about any addiction or bad habit - you've got to want to change. He definitely did not.

I think we all forget how active high school and college students are, even if it's in a passive way. I was not the least bit into sports, but I didn't have a car so had to walk or bike everywhere. If I needed to go futher afield I'd catch the bus, and I'd always be running for it because I am NEVER on time! Even when in class you're sitting for just an hour, then rushing across campus for your next lecture. My after-school jobs were semi-physical: cleaning and gardening. I was always broke, so although I ate a lot of junk, I just couldn't afford huge quantities of it. When I graduated and started working I bought a car and stopped walking and sat on my butt 8-10 hrs a day. I was no longer on-the-move all day, and it caught up with me fast.

I don't think anyone here  is bashing anyone else, people are just really concerned when they hear that someone using a diet that is off track to  such an extreme that could be dangerous, even fatal.
An 8lb baby needs 500 calories a day. By the time you're 1 year old, you need 900. By the time you hit 2 yrs, you need 1000.  Sure, kids are growing and burn up more than you or I, but lets get this in perspective: the 2468 diet is encouraging people to eat less than a new born baby on two days of it's cycle, and less than a 1 year old the rest of the time.  Surely  you've got to see the danger in that?

I'm 161.2 today, so only 0.2 loss since last Friday. I've been up and down the scales like a yoyo this week. It's driving me nuts! Yesterday I decided to start the zig-zag technique you all talk about. I'll see if that makes next week's result a bit more impressive. Gonna be a challenge getting through turkey day. I can walk away from all the desserts and candy, but mashed potatoes with butter and gravy are my weakness. What Thanksgiving food item is your achilles heel?

161.4 today, so 1.6 pounds lost since last friday. Only a little bit, but easy does it, huh?

For a newbie, it's so great to read all your results, 30 pounds lost, 20 pounds lost, etc. Reading that keeps me going.

I was surprised when I revisited my profile edit thing and its advising I reduce my calories by another 100. Oh, poop! I didn't think it would get harder so much sooner, but I guess I've crossed into some new weight category and need fewer cals now. I never was any good at Math!!
