Did I mention I needed a new start date of Monday (5/21)?  Operation "Back on Track" was an Operation "The Weekend Hit"  The funny thing is I tried real hard - hold the Mayo on my Grilled Chicken Sandwhich, got the fruit instead of fries.  Noticed I don't plan ahead as well and log "after the fact" - and eat out way too much on the weekends.  Been REAL good all week since Monday though.

It's those darn weekends that kill me - Mon-Thurs I'm like a gold star student, and you can totally see it when I print out my calories for the week - increased calorie intake on the weekends- which then translates to being able to see it on my weight chart.

Ho hum and *sigh*.

I may take a break from this through the holiday, and then jump back in on June 1st when I also start my new fitness goals.  I'll let you know how THIS weekend goes.

lysistrata - THAT's Awesome!  I'm trying to figure out how to fit more yoga back into my routine.  And am reading this awesome book - The Heart and Science of Yoga - I think - it's at home.  Something like that.  I'm very interested in the philosophy of Yoga, not just the practice.  It's fascinating!

All fellow restarters- Hang in there you guys!  This is way easy to throw some words up on these boards - quite another to stare that donut (or for me and extra glass of wine or way to many chips and salsa) down!

I think I need a specific date I'm going to be clean until - like the month of June.  Then when I reach that...who knows...just keep going!  But I think I need a psychological marker. Maybe that's just me.   Anyway!  Good luck over the Holiday weekend all!

Yeah, 5'2", and I hate that just 2 or 3 lbs can push me from a tight 6 to 6's not fitting at all - I fluctuate that in water weight for crips sake!  If I gain 5 lbs?  Forget it!

Shooting to be a loose 6, but tummy makes pants tight in the waist and way baggy in the legs.  Also, if I get "short" pants - I find that the drier (I know - hang them - such a PAIN), and my tummy sticking out makes them too short - but if I get regular I have to get them hemmed or wear heals.  *sigh* such is life ^_^

BTW - beck23 - there is no way to spot lose weight - you have to lose fat all over, and the body decides where it wants to take it off.  Try looking around for the posts about losing tummy fat.  I know people have suggested ways to tone up, but all of them say no way to specifically lose belly fat.

OMGosh - your dog gets out WAY more than our 3 ever did - she will be totally fine while you go to the gym.  My dogs are in their crates for much longer stretches than that, and were so when they were younger too.

Go, workout, enjoy.  You can even go right from work and let her out after and have no problem.  They can handle more than 3 hours, trust me - and if you don't get her used to holding it now - you will regret it.  We made that mistake with our first one.

5:30 Spin Class - I. Thought. I. Was. Going. to Die. ^_^  I didn't pay much attention to the resistance the first time I went - and this time it kicked my boo tay!  I didn't quit though, and it felt so good when the hour was up.

Welcome newbies!

Jenka - right so then we're back to my question, where does it end?  What foods do we tax?  Ice Cream isn't necessarily a bad food choice - mass quanities of it can be.  Do we base it on sodium levels, trans fats, sugar?  Do we tax the "regular" ice cream and not the low fat?  What if it's low fat but high sodium?

Sorry, I have to echo lysistrata and Hooli.  I don't want the government making my decisions for me on individual, personal choices.

Because they think a seatbelt is uncomfortable, or they just don't want to.  Why would a grown adult choose to jump out of an airplane or any other number of things you could list?  That's not the point.  The point is individual freedom of choice.  I'm in my car, that I pay for and not hurting anyone - leave me alone.  (It wasn't even the main point - it was just an example.)

ok - couple clarification - I meant to tax the commodies of obese people (just as my examples of cigarettes and alcohol are taxed) not the people themselves.

And my point is to not tax those things, I mean where does it end?  They already are going after trans fats and such, should we tax/regulate sodium, it causes high blood pressure?  Should we tax candy because it causes cavities?  It's the proverbial "slippery" slope.

And my point with the seatbelt was along those same lines....yes, wearing your seatbelt saves lives - but why is it the government's choice whether I put my life at risk - not other people's - mine? (I always wear mine, BTW - I just think it's a stupid thing to make legal or illegal and should be a personal choice.  It's MY car - leave me alone!) I have no idea how manslaughter charges work - but I would venture a guess you'd have to be drunk or driving recklessly in the first place to be charged with a manslaughter if someone was killed because you caused an accident, making the seatbelt thing secondary.

The way that personal, individual freedom of choice in this country is being whittled away before our very eyes is down right scary.

I agree that if we are going to tax cigarettes and alcohol because they are bad for us...

...and if we pass BS laws such as 1) those that force grown adults to wear seatbelts in their own car or 2) that prevent a business owner (who pays for the building, property taxes, maintenance etc on his or her business) from allowing people to smoke on his or her OWN PROPERTY...

...then we should tax the heck out of people who are causing a huge strain on our healthcare system.

OR we should just let everyone make their own choices regarding these things, good or bad.  This is not a socialist country.

(Great topic, BTW! ^_^)

I've noticed a couple things with wine:

1.  I have trouble stopping at one 5 oz glass (the recommended daily serving for women) simply because it tastes so good, and if I'm relaxing in front of the TV for a couple hours - it doesn't take long to sip away (compared to say a full can of diet sprite and a shot of Limon).  I usually start out with one at the beginning of the week, and end up with 3 by the end.  Kudos to all those with will power!  You are an inspiration!

2.  Wine (esp red) makes me retain water more than any other alcoholic beverage, so I get way puffy, and pack on 2-4 lbs of water weight right off the bat.

That said however, it is still my absolute favorite, and plan to work hard on the moderation thing.  It's just so much easier for me to moderate a beer or a limon/diet 7, and they have less calories per oz.  If you can do the one glass thing, I don't think its sabotaging, but do remember it is empty calories, no matter how you count it.

ok - first of all junkaholic, you didn't fail.  You had a set back - it happens to all of us - I'm on my 2nd restart.  This weekend I managed to single- handedly eat enough to cause a 4 lb weight gain in two days - yup, water weight, undigested food - yuck!!!!  But, after just two days of Operation "Back on Track", I'm back down those lbs.  I'm not a horrible person, I'm just human...but I'm trying, and my goal is to make overall forward progress in the process.

"i feel so horrible.  like i could die."  - I don't know your situation, but please don't beat yourself up, and that's what I think is the beauty of this group - we come together, and understand that none of us is perfect, we do our best.  We're here for ya.  What happened exactly?  Maybe it's not as bad as it seems.

Yeah, Dee - go ahead and reset me, please.  I had a couple B's and a B+, and I pigged out way too much this weekend.  I'm still getting rid of it, if you know what I mean ~_^.  I spiked back up to 130 yesterday (down to 127.8 today so I know it was from the way I ate this weekend which then threw off my workout schedule Mon and Tues.)

SO!  New game plan=new start.  This is going to a test of consistancy for me - eat (and excersise) relatively the same no matter what day it is rather than trying to add up how much I burn and "eating up" to a certain deficit.  Gonna have to be a bit flexible on the weekends since hubby and I tend to eat out a lot - but to fluctuate anywhere from 1300 to 1600 to 1900 calories is just not working for my system.

Anyway, that's the plan ^_^.  So far so good today!

ok, Dee - go ahead and restart me again for tomorrow's date.

I need a new strategy of consistancy (not my strong suite in any area of my life by any means).  I worked out a ton this weekend - but then ate a ton.  Came out "clean" but wreaked havoc on my body.  I'm just not used to that much food anymore.  Felt SO sick yesterday. Not to mention, now I haven't felt like working out in 3 days.  *sigh*

So, consistant calories, and try to burn about the same a day, and average out to about a 500 deficit - rather than trying to do the math every day and eating "up to" my deficit.  Probably how I should have been doing it all along, but live an learn.  I'm finding out as I go along that this is as much a journey of discovery as a clean eating challenge for me.

Way to go katann!  (see, that wasn't so bad, was it ^_^)

mabear!  Me too!  Yesterday - I could. not. stop. eating!  and it started the day before - and I didn't want fruit, and I didn't want veggies - I wanted the ice cream and tons of the little bittie chocolates I keep around for little desserts.

I honestly think we're just at the two week mark where it gets hard.  (I saw you restarted in the clean eating challenge - again - me too!)  I couldn't get up to work out today - I was just so tired.  I'm not sure if it's because I've been working out and going on less calories the last two weeks, or just a psychological block.  Maybe I'm just obsessing too much.

Let me know if you figure out a solution, cuz my determination is waivering cuz I feel sooo tired today.  I want comfort food!

Well, I need to be restarted as well.  I've been coming in under calories, but eating (little) things on my "no no" list even after I've reached my deficit for the day.  That to me is cheating.  Not that I can't have them, but that I can't have them if I've already eaten my calories for the day.  So, I've had a 2-300 deficit instead of a 500 deficit even though I've gotten A's.  However, whole point of this for me is to get those 2 or 300 "extra" calories a day under control.  SO!  Lets get remotivated!!!!!

Edit:  I'd just like to add that this is the typical time in my "eat right" attempts where my motivation usually goes out the window, and this thread motivates me to keep at it instead of just saying "screw it".  Knowing others are going through the same things is really inspiring to "get back on the horse."  Thanks you all!

Well almost made it through the weekend.  Not as clean as other days today, but still clean.  I just couldn't bring myself to be a hard-a** on a Sunday.  Did light yoga, and still came out w/ a couple hundred cal deficit, so good to go.  Day 8 tomorrow, and ready to be a hard-a** again ^_^.
