| Weight Loss | Who wants to lose 10 lbs by Christmas? | Nov 10 2007 06:01 (UTC) |
83 |
| Ha! I'm idealistic and unrealistic (as much as I hate to admit). I'd love to drop 10 by then. Realistically, 5. If I dedicate myself.
To those of you who are beleivers (in anything) I am asking for your prayers. I need any help I can take at this point right now, not talking diet or exercise or weight, just life. Anonymous prayers are the only thing that can help me now. (Don't mean to rob the post). But YES, I'll aim for ten and realistically aim for 5. Good luck to all of you, dedicate yourself and I believe you can do it! Believe in yourself! Cheers, PLM |

| Weight Loss | Do you make yourself eat all your calories by the end of the day? | Nov 10 2007 05:58 (UTC) |
16 |
| If it's once in a while, don't sweat it. It's the day after day going under that really can hurt you. I have a friend who doesn't eat LITERALLY anything for 5 days, then eats & drinks what she wants on the weekend... which isn't really that much... but she hasn't lost anything.
So just be careful. A few days here and there that you are under are natural, it just happens sometimes. But just make sure you aren't intentionally starving yourself and make sure your body is getting the nutrients it needs. I know this is a calorie counting website, but sometimes you need to worry more about the way you feel and less about the numbers. Just my personal opinion. Just don't obsess. You've been warned. -P.L.M. |

| Wow, thank you for sharing! I put it on my calender, it's my only real plan for the weekend so far (well, not really but my only "fun" plan...haha)
So thanks!!!!! |

| As far as the "back boobs" thing goes, I used to be super-skinny, like rail thin when I was in middle school and there was a girl and her friends who would walk behind me at lunch recess and tell me I had boobs on my back! It was because my shoulder blades stuck out and I hadn't grown real breasts yet... Middle schoolers can be so mean. Anyway, I had a few realizations and I've been here a while. I let go recently but had a wake-up call when I realized that my 5'1'' body had legs that were wider than my 5'11'' brothers' legs. :P (why don't adults have a scheduled outdoor recess or 2 for hopscotch and jumprope and slides and swings and such...!?) lol |

| Oh and as far as Walmart's pathetic attempt at carrying organic foods goes, I hope that people don't buy that bullsh!t (pun intended). They are working to minimize the requirements that organic food and goods require at this moment so they can market things as organic that are actually not, and sell them cheaper than their honest competitors... Sick. Absolutely sick. If I had to drive 4 hrs to shop elsewhere, I would. I cannot say that I have but to me it is worth it. I hope no one takes offense, because it is my personal opinion that I cannot bring myself to enter that version of what I and others and my father call "Hell on Earth"... but I do think it is important to realize the strong negative impact that Walmart and its counterparts have on society and the world in general and to choose to shop elsewhere. If nothing else, order your goods and (if you have to) food online. My 2+ cents. |

| I haven't read all the posts, so sorry if I repeat something. But I have to agree with manicdieter, that Walmarts are bombarding rural areas and putting all other small shops out of business. It's sad, and sickening, I must admit.
Let me ramble for a moment... My parents live in a rural area. Bumble&*$K as someone put it earlier. The closest town with a business has, of course, a Walmart. It's where everyone basically does their shopping. And of course there is a Kohl's beside it, a Lowe's and a Panera bread. It's the "bees knees" of the area and the "shopping metropolis". I have been to the Walmart, mostly because it's open 24/7 and late-night munchies had me calling for fresh pineapple a few times. Luckily, I have a father who admits to accepting Christ into his life because of Walmart. LOL. I know my mom who is somewhat-happily married to him shops there on occasion, but to him I am sure she would never admit it. He has despised Walmarts from the beginning of their somewhat spontaneous boom, and that is one characteristic I have acquired from his personality. I refuse to spend my hard-earned (or otherwise obtained) money at a place such as Walmart. He's also a Home-Depot hater as well. He is a carpenter/contracter and wouldn't be caught dead in such a place. I can respect that. I tell my Walmart-shopping friends that I have ethical reasons that prevent me from shopping at Walmart or other such corporate conglomerates(sp?). I can't get into the details now, because I'd be up all night and no one would read my post...it would be too long. All I have to say is, DO NOT SHOP AT WALMART. Please. For me, for you, and for everyone out there who deserves a better workplace and a better community. Thank you. |

| Meg, are you in the Madison, WI area? I saw that you are mid-western and your mention of the botanical gardens and arboretum struck my interest. I live just off the bike path along Atwood... and I bike on it every day!
This is a pretty easy city to be green in, as well. I love Madison. |

| For the grocery bags, I got a 4 pack of them for a pretty good price, I think on Amazon. They're from Planet Bag. You can google it, I'm sure. It may even be planetbag.com. I've also got bags for produce as well, smaller though and from a different company. Though most grocery stores around here sell cotton totes near the register... you may want to check there next time.
The rainwater idea is a great one! I like it! I don't use those wipes or disposable cleaning products of any kind. I have my own version of "swiffer" that's a cloth with string loops and works great... just throw it in the wash with your rags when you're done cleaning. I also have flourescent bulbs. I've heard something like what you mentioned with the 15 minute thing, but I don't know if it's true. I do know that I rarely am turning lights on and off. But I have a small house, plus it's just me. My new challenge will be trying to be green with 2 roommates who are basically anything but, yet tell me they try (they don't). There's also a good book I have that you may want to check out, I almost forgot! It's called "Living Green" by Greg Horn. Best Wishes, Stay Green! :) |

| Foods | question about PB2 | Aug 02 2007 21:09 (UTC) |
2 |
| I got mine for like $25 for 4 jars, I don't remember if that included s&h or not. So a little pricey, but I was buying natural PB which costs the same if not more.
I think the PB2 is awesome. It's just crushed peanuts with the fat pressed out, so no it's not like a chemistry experiment. It tastes like...well...PEANUTS of course! I find I also don't overdo it with PB2, since you have to mix it to eat it! And I bought the jars quite a long time ago (months) and I only just recently emptied the 1st one. It's not as addicting, like I said, which is a great thing! Now PB is more of special treat, the way [I think] it should be! That's my experience with it, anyway. |

| The Lounge | Legalization of The Drug Marijuana | Jul 27 2007 21:50 (UTC) |

| Just to clarify, I don't mean to glorify ANY drugs. I don't think anyone should do drugs, ever. I wouldn't suggest that someone curious just up and do it. I think it's much better to be high on life and its wonderful aspects, rather than alter your brain chemistry to acheive a false sense of reality. There are other, healthier, better, and more productive ways to reach those deep inner workings of the mind. As somewhat stated earlier, "Drugs are bad, mmmmkay!?" :) But if alcohol is legal, pot should be too. Alcohol isn't even used to help people in any way, like medicinal marijuana is. edit: And it is QUITE curious that the other was deleted, but not this. We'll see how long this one lasts, I s'pose. Peace, ya'll. |

| Cocaine is bad. Quite bad indeed. It practically tore my family to peices, years ago. In that case though, it was combined with alcohol...which I enjoy, but deem to be just as bad as cocaine, if not worse because it's legal and somewhat "glamorized". But part of the reason cocaine is so bad is because it is sooo addicting. I mean, it's soup-doop fun but it sucks if you get hooked. And freebasing isn't too swell of an idea.
E is fun, but yeah people can die from it. Most of the deaths, though, are from drinking too much water while taking it. You gotta drink water, but not tooooo much. It's fun to do with people you love... like your good friends. Acid is bad if you do too much of it, or if you take it in the wrong state of mind/environment and have a bad trip. I know some people who've done too much LSD and they will never, ever be the same again. Not different people, just slower and weirder (though the weirder part I don't consider bad, since it's not creepy-weird). Shrooms are amazing, but I've also seeen some friends have bad trips as well as black out for 3 hrs on shrooms. Of course, in the black out case it was combined with none other than our legal friend alcohol, but still. You need to be in the state of mind, with good people, and in an interesting and comfortable environment if you're going to do psychedelics. Pot can be bad if you let it be, same with anything. Everything in moderation. Heroin and meth are disgusting. I know too many wonderful people who totally effed up their lives doing that bullsh!t. It's really sad, and I hate those drugs for that reason... and whoever invented them, goddamnit. Opium is good, though. It's not at all the same as heroin. It's pretty harmless and the high is somewhat like smoking pot. Still, everything in moderation. And yes, pot should be legalized. I once did a paper on this as well, back in HS. I wish I still had it, but I think my teacher kept it. Otherwise I'd contribute a few points. I love writing (but not necessarily research papers). It was one of my best "works" though. Maybe 'cus I could really get into the topic, and actually wanted to know the facts... |

| Weight Loss | I'm becoming impatient | Jul 27 2007 19:52 (UTC) |
2 |
| I too am just under 5'1''. I was successful at losing weight in the spring. In fact, I got down from (originally) 109 to 99.5lbs. And at that weight, I was happy. Sadly, I let go and gained back 3-4 lbs, BUT here is how I did it the successful way (until I started bingeing and stopped working out :/):
I ate anywhere between 1200 and 1600 calories a day. I ran 3-4 miles 3-5 times a week. I also did some pilates, a little weight lifting, and used the rowing machine at the gym. Basically, the running is what really did it. And keep my calories in check. Granted, there were a few days I fell below 1200 and a few days that were upwards of 1800... but all in all, it balanced out. I was burning about 1800 calories on my workout days and tried to get in pilates or yoga the other days (which doesn't burn many cals, but helps with muscle building). My diet consisted (and still does) of oatmeal, soups, lean meats, yogurt, soymilk, LOTS and LOTS of fruits and veggies, some whole wheat pastas, breads, pita, wraps, and healthy cereals and protein bars sometimes after workouts. If you stay consistent, you may not get down to 99.5lbs but you shouldn't fixate on a number anyway. Running is truly the best workout ever, I don't really think anything else has ever gotten me into as good of shape as running. Be sure to stretch very well, and do some strength training. Worry less about the scale and more about making the most of your body. It takes time, but if you stick with this, it should work. At least, it did for me. And then once you get there... eat a LITTLE more, not a lot more. And keep exercising! Hope this helped, good luck! |

| Weight Loss | made my first target!!!!!!!! and i have a cold | Jul 27 2007 19:02 (UTC) |
1 |
| Congrats on making your target! BTW, I too have a terrible summer cold, and it's going on one week as of today... without getting better, only worse! I've also been working 2 jobs every day, an hour off in between. I think running myself ragged isn't helping with the recovery process. And I've been eating MORE that I expend... not good. Anyway, I found some sugar free lozenges at the supermarket, but they're made with Splenda so I just got the regular ones (I don't beleive in artificial sweeteners personally). I count each one as 15 cals, because on this site Halls cough drops are counted as 15. But, I haven't really been keeping track of those. I wouldn't worry too much about the calories in the lozenges, I figure our bodies might need those few extra to help fight the illness! Also, GET REST. Take it easy and relax as much as possible. I second the chicken soup and OJ recommendation. Also, green tea and blueberries. I ate a whole pint of blueberries yesterday actually! So make sure you get plenty of sleep and downtime, and get plenty of fluids. Best of luck, I hope you feel better soon! |

What about those tiger-striped pants... what were they called? I can't remember. They were tight at the bottom and "flowy" throughout the legs... Oh, I hope it comes to me! Or that someone knows what I'm talking about! |

| I have the same complaint, though I know it's from my seat height. But it's not as simple as raising it, since there's something slightly wrong with my seat. Maybe you bicycle-enthusiasts can help me? A while back, my friend attempted to remove the seat from my bike... I don't remember the reason at this moment but it happened. Anyway, ever since then I haven't been able to adjust the seat quite right. I get it set at the height that works the best for me, but as soon as I sit on it the seat goes down to the lowest position. I have everything tightened (don't know the correct terms, but the little outer clamp and screw are tight, as is the thing that turns around the metal rod). The rod itself that the seat is attached to is also very, very greasy. I don't know enough to fix this, and I don't want it to cost money to have repaired if need be, because I'm a very unwealthy college student. I need it fixed though, as I don't drive my car in warm weather (as it is now) but always take my "2-wheeler" as I call it, and my knees are killing me! Any advice? |

| And as for tofu, I usually get Mino-ru (sp?) silken tofu. They have lite firm and lite extra firm varieties. I would also like to know which brands are better nutrition-wise, in comparison to prices. I always have to weigh nutrition vs price since I'm on a tight budget. :)
Sorry I'm really not much help. |

| I have the Kangaroo Wheat Pitas and the package says for one (meaning, one half-circle pita) it's 80 calories. That's what this site says, too. Where's the confusion? I do, however, notice that some things are off. Take it for what it ALL is... an estimate. Even the packages are often misleading and if anything, UNDERestimate. |

| I know how you feel. I often make plans with friends 1-2 weeks prior to the date, and set everything up, and "have their word"... then the night before or the morning of everyone bails, 'cuz they're "too tired" or "too busy" or "forgot they had to (fill in the blank)". I'm beyond sick and tired of it. So now, I make plans to do things and make sure people really mean it when they want to join, then I hold them up to it and make them responsible for something so they can't really back down. It still happens, though. I think people spread themselves too thin, and tell others what they think they want to hear. If you can't make it or don't want to go in the first place, just say it! I want you to go but I certainly don't want empty promises. Jeesh.
So I feel for ya, italianprincess. |
