| Weight Loss | How long till I start losing weight again? (began working out) | Mar 10 2007 19:13 (UTC) |

| I notice that when I work out regularly, I will often gain weight from the muscle, since muscle weighs more than fat. Definitely try to focus on goals other than pounds, like feeling good, or being happy with how you look. Since it always helps to have something to look at and evaluate quantitatively, you might go by inches, and set a goal, like, "my arms are currently 10 inches, I'd like them to be 9 inches" I hope that you lost the 30 pounds in a way that was healthy. Try not to be afraid of gaining weight, especially since you are growing, and you could grow in a way in which your frame fleshes out, and you gain a couple of pounds. |

| I think that weight and body image are just things that people really shouldn't discuss, as a rule. Here, it's great. At the gym, with your gym-buddies, sure. But overall, it is just such a touchy subject, and whenever it comes up, people are so self-depricating, that it does more good to just avoid it. Then be happy when you get compliments about not how thin you look, but how good you look, and be happy about how good you feel, and how healthy you are, and to Hell with anyone else, especially if they give unwanted, unconstructive advice/criticism. | |||

| Can I join too? College girl, I started at 135ish and now I am 125 ish and I'd really like to be 115ish (the ish's are all because my weight fluctuates REALLY dramatically over the course of the day/week) I was wondering if anyone had advice about losing the last bit. At 135 diet and excercise makes a much bigger difference than it does at 125, and I think I am stagnating somewhat. (I'm a large frame, and I form muscle very easily, so, to be fair, that could be throwing it off, but still.) I don't know if I am actually losing weight any more (I'm at 1500 calories a day) Any recommendations? |

| I don't know what is better/worse. Pressure from others to lose weight, or pressure to maintain a higher weight due to jealousy. There is a negative connotation in our society with people who diet, that they are somehow shallow, or (in the case of women) cattish, girly-girl. Everyone in my family is a normal, healthy weight, or on the skinny side, so when I gained 5 pounds last year, my family had discussions about whether I was "chubby" or just bigger boned than everyone else in my family. They decided the latter, but still. (I'm 5 "6" and weighed 133 at that point, plus I AM large boned, so no, I was NOT chubby, not unhealthy) I lost five pounds, and I got a very strong positive reaction from my family, and I don't know if it helped or hurt. There tends to be a positive reaction from people, men, women, when especially a thin or healthy person eats something that is unhealthy, like hamburgers or chocolate. People say things like "look! she eats!" like vegetables don't count. |

| Okay, I'm a freshman, pre-med, and I'm a biology major. I am 5'6", I have a large frame, starting weight: 135 lbs current weight: 125 lbs goal weight: 120 lbs Mostly I'm just trying to stay fit and have some way of measuring what I am eating, and how I am excercising so that if I gain/lose weight, it won't catch me by surprise, and I'll actually know why. |

| I am 5 '6" and anywhere between 125-135 lbs, and I wear size 4 pants, medium size shirts, and size 2 or 4 in dresses. Women's clothing sizes make absolutely no sense whatsoever. They should do it by measurements like they do for the men. In the past, I wore size 6 or 7 pants, and a small shirt, and I'm not sure if my chest has gotten bigger and my butt smaller, or if that is just vanity sizing. | |||
