| You sound like me last week (see journal). I haven't found anything to really help get rid of it any faster. I've taken dramamine as it helps some people but it doesn't really didn't do anything for me but make me fall asleep (although I do feel less dizzy after I wake up). It usually takes me a couple days to get over the effects but I generally try to take it easy for a couple days. | |||

| Nani--it's a huge change yes (and weren't we talking about stability just a while ago) but you can totally start locally. The big cities might have too much competition right off the bat but I agree with amarnatt. Get yourself established (and get a good portfolio together). | |||

| Angel--You know I never thought of it that way but yep...I'm kind of a geeky personal shopper. They tell me what they want and I find it for them. I agree though, being a tour guide would be kind of cool! | |||

| I would've loved to work at an agency. But at the time I was more concerned about finding money to pay off my student loans than finding my dream job. Then I got too comfy... You should see me when I get to do children's books (we have some public libraries in our customer base too). You don't get ANY work out of me those days. :) |

| lol Jayd! So many people ask what the hell a book buyer does. I've pared my answer down to 15 secs or less because anything after that...the eyes start to glaze over. It's that dull.
I tried freelance web design when I first emerged from college. I was horrible at freelance. Not enough guts to go after the people who wanted more work for not any more money. |

| I purchase new titles for colleges and universities. Right now I'm staring at a catalog written in German trying to decide if any of our customers really wants a book on German bankruptcy law. :) Though I probably won't go back to architecture school, my fiance and I have a crazy idea that we'll turn our house into a restaurant one of these days. :) Eclectic food. Asian fusion. |

| amarnatt: I'm a book buyer. It's not very glamorous. I'll be looking to switch it up here soon. 10 years is starting to weigh me down.
I agree about the travel writing. It sounds exciting but it's not stable. And I kind of like the whole stability thing you know. |

| Two things: Fiance says I look tight, toned and sexy and he's impressed with my motivation. :) I pulled on a pair of jeans this morning that I haven't been able to wear comfortably in a year and they fit w/o cutting me off in the middle! |

| Used to think my friend had the ultimate dream job: Travel writer. But after seeing how it works, it's a lot of stress and deadlines followed by periods of downtime when you don't have a contract followed by more high stress and deadlines. I still think it's cool but probably not for me.
Dream job: architect. I still kick myself for changing majors halfway through. |

| Weight Loss | 120's/110's club anyone? | Dec 01 2006 19:40 (UTC) |

| Welcome Samantha! I've only been on here a month and C-C totally helped me be aware of what I was putting into my body. To the point where I was like "Euw...how could I eat that stuff?" As for exercise, I find having a diverse group of work-out buddies helps TONS. I always have someone to go with and we find motivation in each other.
Friday weigh in (well really yesterday's weight): 131...guess I won't be hitting 118 by end of January but that's okay. I put on a pair of my old jeans this morning and WOOT! they fit! Snug yes but I could button them and not feel like I was cutting myself off in the middle. I'm pretty sure I'm gaining muscle because I've been focusing on strengthening my arms and shoulders so I can beat the boys down when we go climbing in Thailand. :) Too early to recheck my body fat percentages yet though. |

| Lucy's own line is great for basics. They're based here in Portland where I live (so I get to hit all their warehouse sales!). They carry top end lines as well: Prana, Om Girl, etc. But as for me, I go for serious functionality when I look for workout clothes. I personally prefer my Under Armour gear for sweating in. Looks good and works great. |

| no weighing in for me although i was actually good this year! proper portions, no seconds. yay! although i'm still kind of bloated because there was a LOT of salt in the meal i think. darling fiance wanted to brine the turkey this year. unfortunately, we discovered afterwards that he brined it about 3 times longer than what it probably should have gone. oops. still quite tasty and the leftovers are delish!
i made a rum cake for another party and manged to only take about a half a slice plus a little slice of cheesecake. whew...glad that's over! managed to crawl into the gym for about 3 hours over the weekend. kind of a slow start to the week but i'll make it up. i'm starting to crave my workouts more and more. |

| No matter what pill I try, I gain 8 pounds. Keep in mind that I've never tried lo-dose pills which a friend of my suggests I try. I'm so used to the ones that I have that I just try to work out around that extra 8 pounds. | |||
| Weight Loss | "ruler" girls? anybody? | Nov 22 2006 18:35 (UTC) |
3 |
| Ooo! Me! Me! (waves hand wildly!) I'm a total ruler shape. I find I have a little more shape when I weigh a little less because most of my weight lands around my waist area. So when I gain weight I gain a little in my chest and butt but more lands around my middle. I wouldn't consider breast implants though because my hips are fairly narrow and I've noticed that when my chest is...ahhh...enhanced it makes me appear top heavy. Can't win.
Oh and I wear low rise bootcut or flare jeans. For some reason they give me more "hips". |

| Good lord I can't imagine how your mother came to her decision! She's being ridiculous. It's not like you've gained very much and you're injured on top of that! Maybe ask her what's her reasoning is for not spending Thanksgiving (a day that you celebrate with your family not punish them for harebrained imagined failures) with you is. Sounds like she may have some other issues running in the background here.
Not sure what the extent of your injury is but try to do some low impact exercises: yoga, pilates, swiming. Do some light weight training. Those are the kinds of things I did to feel better when I shattered my ankle. Feel better!! |

| I'm normally not a squash fan but I discovered spaghetti squash earlier this year and it's wonderful! My fiance loves it drowning with marinara but I prefer it just with a sprinkling of herbs and a little bit of grated cheese.
I'll have to try it with the mushrooms and onions. That sounds like a great idea! |

| Weight Loss | Chinese soup- healthy or not? | Nov 20 2006 23:27 (UTC) |
2 |
| My mom always cools the soup and scoops the (disgusting looking) layer of fat off the top. Even when she doesn't have enough time to cool it, she'll try to skim as much fat as possible off the top. It's low in calories and nutritious but she does tend to overdo it with the sodium which is what I'm more concerned about (for her health more than mine really).
Pocky rules! |

| weekend was brutal. my fiance and i went to the gym both saturday and sunday to make up for week of gluttony while my dear sister was in town (scale up .5 pound but could have been worse). unfortunately we also scheduled our personal trainer sessions this weekend too for lack of better times with the upcoming holiday so we did a double workout on sunday and they really worked us over. i'm pretty sure i detected actual glee in their eyes. i'm aching today.
i realized i haven't lost any weight since i started this 3 weeks ago BUT i managed to drop a quarter inch on my calves and thighs and 2 inches off my waist (lot of that was probably bloat) and an unfortunate .5 inch off my chest (dammit). i'll happily take smaller measurements and less jiggle over actual weight loss! :) |

| Weight Loss | Dealing with family & friends who think you are obsessed with wt loss. | Nov 16 2006 00:38 (UTC) |

| The only reason my family is being "understanding" right now is because I said I wanted to lose weight for my wedding. This blows my mind because why is it okay to lose weight to get married when at any other time they'll say I look just fine or that I'm too thin? I'm in the 130s but people will assume that I'm around 110-115.
Honestly though, it's not just for the wedding. After I turned 34, I noticed that I was gaining weight at an impossible (for me) rate. I'd never had any problems eating whatever I wanted and not gaining weight. However, in two years I've gained approximately 20 pounds. Not a good rate. So now is the time to nip it in the bud before it continues and that is what I tell people--that if I don't watch myself now and find an exercise routine and eat better, I'll be well on my way to being overweight in a few years. |

| Fitness | Indoor Rock Climbing - totally AWESOME!! | Nov 16 2006 00:25 (UTC) |

| Indoor climbing is a great all around workout for the body. And it's fun too! I used to train year round at my local rock gym in prep for summer climbing 3-4 times weekly, 3 hours a session and I have to say my arms, shoulders, abs, and back were totally cut. I've let it go for a couple years tho due to time constraints but now I'm trying to get back. First to the regular gym for weight loss and then back to the rock gym for training. | |||
