I use a rice cooker like a stove top (it can cook pasta and soups!!!), and a slow cooker as a way to do cassaroley stuff.. Toaster oven is also a good solution... Countertop grills are awesome... |

My skin clears up a lot when i eat HEALTHY! For my body this means a lot of veggies, expecially raw ones in lots of different colors. If i have a lot of bread, flour, sugar etc, this is when my skin really flares up... Its less about no meat for me and my skin, and more about lots more veggies.. Might be different for you though! It is always worth a try... |

Mmmmmm salsa! It makes foods happy.. I am a bit of a tomato snob and don't like to eat plain tomatos when they are not in season, but if i make them into a salsa with onions, cilantro, and whatever veggies i have chilling around the kitchen they are ediable.. During real tomato season i eat twice as much... mmmmmmm - its all good till you end up pooing tomato seeds from eating too many.. |

| Foods | how can I curb my appetite in the mornings, should I stop eating fruit? | Jun 12 2009 16:34 (UTC) |

Do you drink coffee, tea, or hot coco... You might think about adding a warm drink to you morning routine (preferibly not one that is caffinated i suppose.. but thats a personal choice) A lot of teas can be sweet naturally without any sugar, such as ones with hibiscus, cinnamon, rose hips, and rooibus. I prefer these types of teas more then ones made with black tea, because black tea makes me want to add milk and sugar. Some sugar free, fat free cocos are nice too.. For me a warm drink makes me feel more satisfied then like a cup of cool water, or even a cup of juice. If you start the water while your doing the banana, it should be cool enough to drink before you start the oatmeal and might give you a little bit more of a full feeling before you go for the apple at breakfast Ok i know i am a tea/hot drink nut... But its my replacement for a diet coke addiction, so for now i am good with my 5 cups of day of it :) No calories, no sodium, no HFCS or artificial sweeteners or colors.. You seem to enjoy your fruit and veggies, so i wouldn't go low carb... But maybe you could think about replacing some of your morning fruit with lower carb options such as egg whites with veggies, (I do 3 egg whites with leftover dinner veggies from the night before, tossed in the microwave for 90 seconds in a cup) For almond butter, you can eat it with crackers, fruit (put it with your apples or banana and you might feel better. A whole grain tortilla with almond butter, and half a sliced apple and a sprinkle of cinnamon can be a very yummy breakfast. I don't know what you eat for dinner, but i feel like you need more veggies in your diet.. Maybe replace one of the apples with some cooked or raw veggies like carrots, peppers, celery etc that will take longer to digest. Do you do an evening snack after dinner? That might help you wake up less hungry if there is less of a time gap between dinner and breakfast |

Quinoa, vegan boca burgers, salsa, bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots, salad greens, teas/lemon water/soda water with a splash of fruit juice, Extra Virgin Olive oil, granola (in limited pre measured quantities), flavorful cheeses like feta, blu, asaigo, brie (rather then like a bland cheap cheddar, american, etc - i know i will use less of the cheeses i enjoy more, rather then just adding them to look pretty or for texture... I would rather have a sprinkle of feta with my salid for lunch then dressing!), Fat Free/Low Far Greek yogurt, and

I third quinoa as a good way to up protean! I use my rice cooker to mine, and throw in some cumin and chili powder in the water as its cooking, that way its at least seasoned a little bit when i go for it for meals! I cook up 1 raw cup per week on sundays, then use it for the week as sides, and added to other stuff, but i don't have to wait for it to cook every time i want it! |

Often times i will throw the yolk in the pan after i finish cooking my egg whites and feed the cooked yolks to the cats (i wouldn't give it to them raw.. might make them sick) If the cat isn't around i just throw them with the shells into the compost bin |

Try following some blogs, there are lots of food bloggers out there, many of whom blog, with recipies, meal plans, even shopping lists for the week! I find ones for familys for the week often have the simpliest recipies, a lot of them take pictures of theprocess which is neat to see whats its "suppossed to" look like too!

| Foods | Lettuce does not agree with me | Jun 02 2009 18:45 (UTC) |

have you tried something likehttp://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2009/01/ridiculo usly-easy-grilled-romaine-salad.html a grilled romaine salid, where the lettus is cooled so its less firm, kinda like wilting spinich so you still have to chew and isn't mushy. Also have you tried doing salids with greens that arn't lettus, or the ones that are "spring mixes" where they have the frilly stuff, that is softer and mgiht be easier to digest.. or just leaving the lettus out, and just doing a chopped salid of veggies that you can digest well? |

Depending on how you are choosing yor veggies can make a big differnce, instead of a banana you could do watermelon, berries etc. http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/whattoeat/a/ whatfruit.htm from a google of "low carb fruit" http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/whattoeat/a/ whatveg.htm for low carb veggie - i am sure there are better lists out there then these, but they were first on my google page ) But also, bananas have lots of good for you stuff in them. If you ate half a banana with no sugar added peanut butter, instead of a whole one on its own, then your getting a lot of the good stuff with it and it might be more "worth it" |

| Vegetarian | Tofu Tips | Jun 02 2009 17:37 (UTC) |

I've been veg for 6 years now, but have never been able to cook tofu (edibly!) until about last week... for things i want to cool with tofu, generally i cube it or cut it into strips... I drain the water, then add spices/and or some sauce, with it all over the sides of the tofu - put it in the frisge in the spices/sauce for about a hour.. afterwards, take it out of the sauce, and put it in a hot nonstick pan (i use well seasoned cast iron) and leave it alone! cook slightly more then you think you should, i like it to be a little "dryed out/over cooked" sort of feeling, which may not be the "right way" to do it, it works much better for me then not having the outside harden a litttle. I flip it once it has a bit of bite to it, and then do the same thing on the other side, and the smaller sides if i can get them to stand up on the side....
I seem to have the issue of poking at thigns in the pan and not being able to leave them alone, so cooking tofu this way makes this a practice in self control. Otherwise i end up with crumbeled fried tofu, instead of cooked up blocks. |

I find that i pee less often, in larger quantities when i add some sort of fruit to my water - lemons, lime, or apple mostly.. I don't really know why, it just seems that way.. I also drink a lot more when i add fruit... I aim for a gallon of water a day and the trips to the bathroom do get quite old |
