Motivation Day 1... yet again! Sep 25 2007
20:48 (UTC)
Yesterday I left the house for work, then back tracked inside to get my umbrella.  Not only did that save me from walking 12 blocks in the rain without it after work, but it also helped me remember to give my puppy his meds for the morning.

Not all backtracking is bad.  Sometimes it helps you see that your car has a burned out tail light?  Or that you left the coffee pot on? Or that, if you look at your path again, maybe you can do better taking the left fork in the road instead of the right?

Me? ::smiles:: Today is day 1 again and I reduced my daily latte down to a medium for the first time in over 6 months.  Sure I back tracked to let my very old dog catch up (has 3 dogs) on the walk, but reducing that is a big step forward to.

Maybe think of all this as a dance? ::chuckles:: Keep your weight up on your toes.  Be ready to slide your feet in any direction to keep your balance.  And dont stop moving? ~ Lost Artist

::public confession is good for the soul?::

This week I had a total of 1 - 20 oz pepsi, 1 - 12 oz, and 1 - 20 oz that I tossed most of.  I mentioned it on the 20th.

As of today I reduced my large latte down to a medium.  Still sticking with only dark chocolate.  If I feel the need for caffiene I am going to go for green tea.  I was doing that last winter and enjoying it alot, but when it got hot I dropped it.  Not sure why I could not find a way to do a cold version, but I wont beat myself up over that.

So here is to continuing to reduce on the sodas!  ::listens to the crickets::  Anyone else out there? ~ Lost Artist

Calorie Count Chart line out of Whack? Sep 25 2007

good questions Trixie.  I myself, I can not even find my line graph on the new site?  Maybe I am not looking in the right place, but I tend to poke around and click anything that it is possible to click.

When I want to see my line graph, I go back into the ole CC site.  Is it hiden somewhere I am not finding?  HELP.  That graph is inspiring.  I am a very visual person.  I feel the same way about the ticker chart, though not as strongly.  Another good way to see progress, and I cant find it on the new site. ~ Lost Artist

NO Frozen Yogurt
 Dec 13 2006 22:24

"The only thing fro-yo has in common with real yogurt (the plain, non-frozen kind) is that they're both white. The frozen stuff doesn't have live cultures, which help maintain digestive health and the nonfat varieties are a mix of chemicals and artificial sweeteners. You're better off with a serving of organic ice cream. "

Day 1....  again.

Somehow saying that feels refreshing instead of depressing.  A new view of things for me, to be sure.  But its a clean slate.  The pizza I had 2 days ago, not going to beat myself up.  Today I am renewed and I start my journey from where I stand.  Today I head forward not back.  The goal is to leave that baggage behind, after all.  So if I am shedding the physical baggage of my spare tire, why not forego bringing along the emotional baggage of guilt?

I cant always be positive.  But again, no guilt, I wont beat myself up for negative days in the past, be they spiritually negative or food consumption negative.  Today is DAY ONE.  Today I get to a whole new chance.  Today... I will walk to work.  ::smiles:: ~ Lost Artist

WAIT A MOMENT???
Ever have one of those moments
when you just say...  DUH???

::laughing at meat eaters who push Vegetarians around::

Such a strange world.  Now a days there are health messages everywhere saying, get 5 veggies and fruits a day.  TV news casts talk about how people dont do that.  Cancer sites warn about not doing it?  Nutritionists and doctors push for it constantly.  Reporters video tape people's tushes on the street and call our weight issues a health crisis.  It is clear as crystal that plant fiber is wonderful for us... Yet when those of us that actually get into veggies let the world know it, we are seen as if something is wrong?  We are freaks that must be saved?

I have to wonder how many people out there in the history of the world have heard caring parental units saying...  finish your veggies?  Heck sometimes kids arent allowed to leave the table without cleaning them all up?  ::laughs:: I remember sitting with a plate in front of me, stuck there for hours hoping those green beans would just disappear on their own.

Where the heck is the balance?  When do we Vegetarians get acknowledged, not as freaks, but as those who are stronger on a nutritional level?  When do those of us that happily eat 5 servings a meal, and 50 grams of fiber a day get to sit on the top of the pile and have the world actually realize they should be jealous of us?

Trick me and put pork in my food?  Shame on you! How about if I add some tofu to yours?  (try it, boy do people BITCH)  We vegetarians are not wrong. We do not need to be saved.  And we certainly are not missing something that we need.  I do not begrudge hanging out with those that eat meat, what do they care if my plate is just pure veggies?  Instead of razzing vegetarians, the carnivours and omnivours should be begging us for advice about how incredible our control is over our diet?

Instead of jokes and criticism, it is about time the world realized that we have taken a step toward a healthier existance that they can not handle.  Dont try to slip crap into my food, instead beg me for advice on how to gradually remove it from yours.

I am a proud Vegetarian and there is nothing wrong with me.  If you feel the need to bash and bully, that is your own insecurities talking, and something is definitely wrong with you. ~ Lost Artist

::Chuckles::  Next time, before someone like Grandma even has a chance, how about go for comedy and say...  say are you still sucking down hunks of flesh and doing that Lard diet thing?   or something to that effect?  I mean, dont insult her personally, but get the jump on the questions.  There are no answers out there.  People are always unused to what is different in the world and they talk about it.

Think of it this way... people have spent forever finding ways to talk about the weather.  For, century after century and they still seem to be in awe of the fact that it changes?  gee its raining today and was sunny yesterday.  Gee did you realize that today we had weather?  ::laughs::  Goofy as heck, but human nature.

as for people sneaking things in... again I am being a comedian when I say this... but have a premixed container of fake vomit with you and when they arent aware, pretend to toss all over their kitchen floor?  I bet they wont ever add hunks of dead bodies to your food every again.  Yep yep, I know... how vulgar and over the top?  LOL but gets the point across in a way that they sure as heck wont forget and I bet you a veggie burger they dont try and trick you ever again.

p.s.  Thinking about this a bit more... that guy does NOT have an artist's soul.  He does not know how to see beauty and bring it out of something or someone.  I hope it helps you to know that he is beneath you, because he can only destroy, not enhance nurture and create an artistic situation.  ::Shaking her head:: He will go on to fail and he will always wonder why.

Oh man, that guy in art class was a jerk. When people say things to me like, are you feeling well? a reaction to me being a bit blah, or lagging instead of being perky? or being pale, etc? I get brassy and look at them and say... "Gee thanks, you look like horse crap too!"

Someone in an art class should be learning what *constructive critcism* is. As someone with an art BA, we learned over and over... do NOT open your mouth to ditch on another's art work unless you can first find some value in it and ALSO give them a compliment. That guy had not earned the right to comment negatively until he first knew how to see your beauty also. So feel free, with my blessing, to teach that little pissant. Because he doesnt get what Art means.

Art and the beautiful job of sculpting that you are doing on your body are about seeing through to the intent. It is about finding the good, the talent, the drive and the style to improve and grow. You are growing and your body and its improvements are one of your art forms. Him? He is a lousy idiot who has no clue what the consequences of his actions are. He is not bringing beauty and artistic peace to the world. He is distrubuting pain and negativeness. He is beneath you.

EAT!!

Dang I wish I remembered all the links I used to read for motivation.  I just got back on here.  But basically what I remember is that when you get into starvation mode you ruin your progress.   When you feel hungry you are working backwards.  Your body is saying... ok every single thing that comes in, we have to hold onto it like it is solid gold.  You wont lose by feeling hungry.

Tatjanturtle is right.  Your body will rebel and you will not do well.  You are already feeling the results of that with your mood.  Your physical body is doing the exact same thing.  Even if you are just consuming ruffage type rabbit food to fill in the corners, your body has something to work on.  High fiber is my suggestion.

Just because you see posts with a ka-billion responses, do not be intimidated.  Each of us is simply a person, just like you.  We might sound like we have it all figured out, but that is only because we have been proding each other for the answers.

I am struggling myself, hoping that this time as I return to the board here, that it sticks and I stay.  I am going to add you as a friend in my profile.  You might check out this link...

When I first got here I did alot of personally motivated research and I strung it together post after post.  Or look at my journal?  I am not big into talking about my daily life, but instead I use it as a place to store research information and ideas.

Vegetarian If I become vegan do I have to get rid of all my previous clothing... Sep 22 2007
03:12 (UTC)
1

Vegetarian here, not Vegan.  ::gets that out there::  But I am also going to admit that I am an active leather consumer.

::Waits for the gasps of disgust to die down::

I have an off the charts allergy to numerous dust mite types.  Any type of padding cloth or other soft items is always full of dust mites.  I hemmed and hawed about my choices on how I could personally combat this?  In the end, I have taken out my own sewing machine and covered my furniture with good ole fashioned cow leather.  If I was rich, things would be different but...

Before the Vegans set up a stake to burn me, here is my reasoning...  I am attempting to think of the whole planet, not just the animals today but long term.  My other alternative is to live with everything in my universe incased in plastic.

PLASTIC? Now that is flat out BAD.  Be it vinyl or common plastic sheeting, BLAH.  It is full of toxins that make me shudder.  While the curing process for leather is not great either, at least it ends up bio-degradable.  I do not want my couch cover to be hanging around in 2000 year for some archeologist to dig up.

So I go with the... *the animal is already dead* philosophy.  I cant stop the burger consuming gluttons in this world.  ::Turns green even thinking about eating a burger::.   But if I can find a way to make their bio-waste a useful element in my world so that it is not just another bit of crud tossed into the landfills, I am going for it.  So I use leather.

My friends laughed at me recently, because the car I was in ran over the back legs of a chipmunk and he dragged himself off the street and escaped... and I cried for hours.  I hated causing that pain.  This world is a tricky place.  Figuring out the balance between rubber bottom shoes and leather jackets and plastic bags for vegan humas and bamboo sheeting (Too expensive for me right now.)  Heck I learned that some of the new hybrid cars are actually very BAD for the environment because of all the shipping overseas they do to put them together in the first place.

I try to be a good person and live by the motto my friends and I went by in college...  *Leave things better than how you found them*.  So I play clean up crew.  I reuse business envelopes by scribbling out printed addresses.  I reuse bread bags to scoop up dog poo.  I reuse leather to aid with my health.  I pick up trash in parks.  And I recycle every scrap of metal I come across. etc etc...

Life is so dang tricky, I just work the best I can on my small scale to cause the smallest amount of residual damage possible.  Good luck with your choices everyone.  May you find peace with them and balance with your world.   ::sitting in the dark with only one 40 watt florescent bulb lighting her computer desk::

Foods breafast cereals. how much is normal for you to eat? Sep 22 2007

Yummy cereal!

Since I like it so much I have a full cereal bar set up in a section of my kitchen.  But I have set it up carefully.  Everything is in jars with scoops, so I cant BS myself about the amounts.  Each has a real 1/4 measuring cup, so I cant live in denial about what I am putting in my bowl.

This also lets me trade around.  Somedays it is a 1/4 cup of ginger granola mixed with a 1/2 cup of bran flakes.  Another day is Kashi Go Lean mixed with PJ granola.  This creates completely new tastes and keeps things interesting.  It also lets me have that sweet crunchy granola taste without a full dose of its sugars.

I also keep ground flax seeds on hand.  I take a sealable shake container (I like former parm cheese shakers) and I keep it frozen.  Flax seed spoils fast, this way it keeps fresh. I keep a Tblspoon measuring scoop in there.  Then when I have a bowl of cereal I throw on the flax seed.  Instant Omega 3 healthy fat.  Mixes right in.  It works well with cold cereal because flax can spoil if cooked.

My biggest reaction though, to this subject, is the MILK.   There is the culprit.  I only drink skim, but that is still ALOT of carbs.  I keep the milk level down.  At least milk is good for protein.   ::Big smile:: ~ Lost Artist
.

p.s. All of the cereal options in my kitchen are whole grain.  Fiber makes you feel fuller and does great things for your body.

Fat is not even with calories and protein.  Their percentages should be different.  I am not sure what the ratio is, but I know that fat counts for more per gram than the other two catagories.  So the chart is probably right. ~ Lost Artist

Motivation Being sick sucks. It is definitely aint motivating. Sep 22 2007
00:09 (UTC)
Revisiting my ole posts.  I realize it was way back in January with these illnesses that I really stumbled.  When I get sick I reach for the caffiene... which is usually wrapped in sugar.

The trick is going to be, how do I not stumble the next time I get seriously sick?  Because it happens almost yearly.  Took me months to fight off the re-established pepsi addiction.

I am with you, Chattynoel.  How do we deal with the metabolism issues and falling off the wagon while sick... and once healing?  What about the new/ole patterns that get going due to being too tired and weak to spend alot of energy cooking?

any advice for an issue that will get us all, one time or another? ~ Lost Artist

I wish it wasnt so tough to find good quality whole grain pitas.

I like this great yogurt mix. It is Greek and I usually do not spell it right.  So take this as ebonics and sound it out...   Ta-Zee-Key.   It can be fatty if made with the traditional recipes for it, but some experimenting with cheese cloth and patience and a low fat yogurt can work.

Then comes the black olives, tomatos, cucumbers, lettuce... Go Greek!  Add whatever you would to a great Greek salad ~ Lost Artist

I remember when I was a kid, my mom joined weight watchers.  They were fine, but when she was looking for a group to join, she found this group called PIGS.  I have no clue what their anachronym stood for, but they wanted you to get up and weekly meetings and talk to the group.  As if it was AA?  During their confessions you had to say you were a pig.  Good grief, what a downer that must have been!

I agree with Sabineyvr.  You paid, you are the customer.  They should be kissing your tush, no matter what size or how often.  Maybe if you make it clear to them that they are blowing it with you and you have no intention of rejoining, they will figure out that they need to treat you as a person.  Do not let anyone treat you as a statistic that can fit into their pre-conceived mold.

Potential loss of business is usually a wake up call for such places.  Give it a try, if you cant get your money back. ~ Lost Artist

::holds the hand of one person who relates... ready to form a big long line of strong minded people::

Thank you Kailie.  Day 2.  Heading out for a walk so I can feel that I am actively attacking this.   I have to tell myself that it is ok not to be consistent, because in my life as an artist, consistency has always meant being bored.

So today is probably actually Day 1 all over again.  Today what will I do good for me?  Today I wont beat myself up for not lifting weights or not swimming.  Today I will walk instead.  Or climb stairs?  or chug water?  Today has to be a step forward for me, not a look back with regret.

Motivation Need Motivation- I feel disgusting Sep 21 2007
21:44 (UTC)
I am right there with you.  This is day 2 for me to be back on this board.  I have shown up occasionally to record my weight, but I let myself use excuses for not being honest about what I was eating.

Oh sure I knew that sitting down and eating a whole 12" tombstone pizza wasnt right, but I had this twisted justification in my mind.  *Hey, I have blown it with pepsi consumption, what the heck might as well*

You are definitely not alone.  Motivation is a tricky thing. I am not sure it helps to know that as you stand in that long line of dieters heading to the scales, there are thousands of us just like you out here.  I back you.  Others out there will lead us by example.

It is easy for me to read your words and say, hey Laura, dont rip yourself apart.  It is trickier for me to not actually rip into myself.  That being said, I am going to leash up the dog now and go for a long walk.  I wasnt going to, but your plight is my plight is the plight of us all... and I need to feel like I am accomplishing something, not just spouting.

So chin up.  You already do the exercise part.  Thats a big chunk of the battle.  Maybe give yourself some credit for what you do do right?  ~ Lost Artist

I had some success.  At least from my perspective.

I have managed to stop drinking pepsi.  I have had one in the last 3 weeks and it ended up not tasting good.  I tossed the last 1/4 of it out.  I am very happy with that.

I have also managed to reduce my latte load.   Instead of a Caribu large with 4 pumps of white chocolate and 4 pumps of dark, now I am down to just 4 dark only.  I still crave the caffiene, but I am trying to be healthier.
