Here's what I've been doing this holiday season and it's working pretty well:  I am really limiting my calories the day of the party by snacking only on low-cal things like sliced cucumber and hard-boiled egg whites.  Then, an hour before the party, I eat a bowl of All Bran cereal (and drink a lot of water).  That way I walk into the party full, but nevertheless with plenty of room in my calorie-count to splurge if there is a food I don't want to have to resist.  I tend not to overdo it, since I am full o' fiber, but I have left myself the flexibility to enjoy the food at the party.

Hope this is helpful.

Maydaydr - Nice work on staying at 1000 calories at a holiday party with wine!  No easy task.  I bet it is the salt ... it's making you retain water and that is the reason for the small and  temporary gain.

I was 147 today! But the sweets started arriving at work today ... a 2 lb Godiva box came in at 3pm from a vendor ... UUUUUUGH.  I'm relying on gum to get me through.

Re soup, D, Cambell's Select is pretty good (and they run on sale at the store pretty often).  The Mexican Tortilla, Fajita, and Chicken Chowder are all quite good.

My new lunch is soup. I usually eat at my desk, so it is super easy, and the warmth seems to make me feel more satiated.  Somehow, not doing a lot of chewing keeps me from then craving to chew more things ... weird, I know. Plus, I find it is good for portion control. I divide each can into two tupperwares.  In the morning, I just grab a tupperware out of the fridge and heat it in the microwave at work.

Still 148 today ...

I'm one of the 20-pounders, so I may not be the one you want to hear from.  But, it's significant to me, especially on my particular 5'5" frame.

Deanna - I'm adding you as a friend.  :))

I'd love to be a part of this too. I'm 31 and I live in California. Work full-time in a crazy hectic high-stress job.  Married, no kids. 20 pounds has creeped on over the last several years and I want them gone.  Been taking off and putting back on the first 5 lbs for a year now.  I need to motivate!!!
