Staring weight/date: 304 lbs 1/10/08 Weight last weigh in: 305 Weight this week: 304 lbs Weight loss this week: 1 lb So much for the good numbers I seemed to have as of Friday (I was down 6 pounds at that point). No tracking over the weekend (or yesterday or today for that matter). I'm still not exercising. And (silly me) I've been buying peanut M&Ms for my desk at work. I thought I'd be ok since I didn't touch the plain M&Ms that were there before. I know it seems counter-intuitive for me to have candy on my desk, but it actually keeps me from snacking on bad stuff (if I fill the jar with just stuff I only sort of like). I convince myself that I can do without a sugary snack, but if I really want something I can have one piece from the jar in the afternoon. If I only sort of like what's there, then I have an easy time convincing myself that it's really not worth the calories. Ta-da - I've completely talked myself out of a sugary snack. Just doesn't work when the item in the jar is something that I can eat a whole bag of in a sitting without even thinking about it! I think that the peanut M&Ms will have to find a new home tomorrow. Unopened bags included. (you have no idea how tough that sounds! Wait, I bet many of you do - I'm not used to having other people to talk to about this!!) I'm just glad that there aren't any bags at home anymore... So, goals for this week: give away the M&Ms (shouldn't be hard to find people to take them!), get back in the habit of 8 glasses of water a day, and walk for 10 minutes. (note that the exercise one is super easy - I figure if I make it ridiculously easy and I still don't do it, I'll be so embarassed that I'll do it right before I post on Monday so that I can say it's done!)

I'm just starting to get back into my "good" habits. I started this week higher than when I started the challenge, so I didn't bother to post. Then I read Jeremy's post that he was puting up Monday's weight today, and I figure I'll do the same. At least it will give me something recent to compare to on Monday! Staring weight/date: 304 lbs 1/10/08 Weight last weigh in: 299 (?) Weight this week: 305 lbs So far, looks like good numbers for next week. All depends on how I manage to do this weekend. I finally got the treadmill unburdened, and found out that my idea of watching DVDs on my laptop while walking on the tread mill won't work - the two different places I came up with to put the laptop won't safely support it. I'll have to come up with something - it faces a blank wall and there's no way I can deal with staring at that for very long!!

Hi everybody! Can't believe it's been almost a month since I posted last. I'd been on a business trip, and thought I was getting back on track... Jeremy, I lost my grandma too recently (Jan 31st) - hope you're doing ok. That's part of the reason I wasn't posting - things got turned a bit upside down at home as a result, and then after being out of work for a week it's taken me until just now to get re-organized there. Great losses everyone - I'm really motivated by all of you! I'll wait until Monday to weigh in. I think I've figured out the trick to standing on the scale so that it doesn't give an accurate reading, and haven't truely weighed myself for a while now. (took a bit to realize that I haven't stalled at 300, I was well more than that and I'm just now getting back towards it - we'll see if I can face the truth and really weigh myself tomorrow morning!)

Lots of new people (WELCOME!!!) and some great losses (Congrats!) this past week. January is almost over! Where did it go???? Can't belive I haven't posted for a whole week... No loss, but also no gain. I'm still at 299. I had a business trip Tuesday through Thursday, and then I ate horribly this weekend (did quite well on the business trip though, and I had been very nervous about that). This weekend was no different than what I would have eaten before, and I felt horrible! Felt kind of strange to be happy about not feeling well, but I kept focusing on how my body is getting used to the idea of not eating tons of junk. Now if I could just start feeling like that when I don't exercise...

Dani - we'll be thinking of you tomorrow with your angiogram - hope all goes well! I was so excited this morning - got on the scale and it showed 299! Under 300 and I lost a pound this week. I was so happy. Then I went to find my post from last week's weigh in. I'd remembered last week's weight wrong - I lost 3 pounds, not 1. Even better!! Starting weight/date: 304 lbs 1/10/08 Weight last weight in: 302 lbs Weight this week: 299 lbs total loss: 5 lbs Thanks for the suggestions about the scale. If I stand on it just slightly differently it changes by 5+ pounds. Didn't notice that when I was under 300 and hubby doesn't have that problem. The box does say it's only accurate to 300 pounds. I'm under 300 pounds now and I'm staying this way, so hopefully no issues now!

Welcome Moonkins! Hmm... lots of suggestions for laughing cow cheese. I'll have to check that out! Sounds like something I could have in the afternoons at my desk (3:00 is the worst time for me unless I push off lunch until 1:00; if I move lunch by just an hour, I'm fine - I think things must be slow here around 3:00 and it's boredom not hunger) Forgot to weigh in yesterday (but didn't weigh myself this morning, so I'm still using yesterday's weight, just a day late posting). Starting weight/date: 304 lbs 1/10/08 Weight last weight in: 304 lbs Weight this week: 302 lbs I don't know that the scale is right. Over the weekend it showed me at 298 and there's no way it was right. I'm thinking I'm closer to the 304 number, but since I tried several times and the scale didn't change, I'm going with 302. Kind of bummed because while the scale says 300 is only 2 pounds away, I'm pretty sure it's more. I'll weigh again tomorrow and see what happens. For today, I'm trying to be good. Temptations have been strong, but I don't have any money with me, so I can only eat what I brought with me! Tomorrow will be better - I bought flowers for my desk but forgot them at home. (They were a reward for stuff I've done to lose weight.) I'm hoping that they'll remind me to ignore the cravings... No good suggestions for snacks. As I said, I'm having a hard time resisting things today! I have conversation hearts (I know - shouldn't have bought them...). 20 are 80 calories. Pure sugar, I know, but I can suck on them and they're lasting forever. An apple in the afternoon is usually good for me - I got one of those apple slicers and I've left it in my desk. I love apples, but won't go to the trouble of cutting them up. The slicer gets it all done in one cut! Now I just need to get to the store to buy some apples...

Hi everybody! I'm so happy to find a group that isn't closing. I'd been a part of another group on and off at the end of last year, and wasn't losing a ton of weight, but I'd stopped gaining and had lost about 7 pounds when the year ended. I was without an internet connection, and didn't post. I gained it back (thankfully it was only 7 pounds - nothing so large as to be completely discouraging). I've been trying to get back on track myself, but I think I need a group to keep me honest!! I'm probably between 6'1" and 6'2" (no one ever seems to get the same height when they measure me - the nurses/physician assistants are too much shorter and I've been hit in the head several times with that bar that they bring down to measure you, so I tend to slouch a bit so I don't get hit too hard), 304 lbs (that 7 lb loss put me under 300 for the first time in several years - being back over is a bit hard, but I'm only 5 away from being under again!), and 35 years old. My "adult" step-sons moved back in with us unexpectedly (22 yo in July, 24 yo in October), so things have been a bit crazy lately! One got my exercise room as his bedroom (it was technically the guest room, but we've never had guests) and the other got my craft room. I still have the finished atic, but it has to be de-cluttered first (all the stuff from the guest room and craft room are in it, along with other junk that doesn't have a room). So, long story short, I guess my challenges are exercising and being really good at coming up with reasons I can't exercise! LOL

Hi Ladies! I missed you through the holidays. So impressed to see everyones' results!! You did fabulous. This challenge didn't do too much for me as far as total weight loss, but it did get me below 300 for the first time in years, so I think it was a success! Thanks again to queenie for starting it, and to all of you for your support. I'm going to check out the other challenges - hope you see you there! Hugs!!

Jenn, I'm completely jealous of your snow!!! I'm near Philadelphia - they did a forecast for the entire winter - they're predicting a total of 12-19 inches for the entire winter! I grew up in upstate NY - I miss the snow!!! VK, not sure how many suggestions I actually have, but I'll share what I can! Some of it was spurred by counting calories to lose weight and some of it by having to save money with both step-sons here now (they pay some rent now that they both have jobs, but when they didn't it was tough!). I started buying frozen meals for my lunches at work - I tried to bring a fresh lunch each day, but I always had a frozen one in the freezer in case I forgot or things were too hectic in the morning (or I was just feeling lazy) - much cheaper and fewer calories than what I could get in the cafeteria. Not the lean cuisine or smart ones - just regular Stouffer's. Turns out they're good, and not quite as full of sodium as they were the last time I checked (still not great by any stretch of the imagination!). Whenever they're on sale, I get a few to keep in the freezer at home for the same reason. For instance, we have to run to an appointment in a few minutes. Hubby was going to have 2 pop-tarts and then probably end up grabbing fast food because there wasn't time to make something. I microwaved him one of the larger meals (I try to stick to the ones under 400 calories for myself). Only 560 calories - the poptarts are about 200 calories each, plus the 1000 or so from the fast food. Right there it's over 500 calories "saved" and he'll be just as full because the calories weren't from sugar. I forgot the other one... have to run. I'll post later if I think of it!!

Congrats to everyone - almost everyone had good news this week! Yippee for us!!! Before I forget... Last week: 298.5 CW: 298 The trip was good. Planning certainly helped. The fancy meal was filet and shrimp scampi. I ate something in my room first, arrived late to the cocktail hour (and stayed away from the drinks and appetizers), and just had the salad, roll, and a few bites of potato at dinner. I'm glad I don't eat steak or seafood - both were drenched in high calorie sauces and I had no desire to eat them. After the awards ceremony they had the bar open again and a dessert buffet. Grabbed some bottled water, and two tiny desserts (everything was cut to be 2 or 3 bites). I had a small bite of each and then only ate the one that I really liked. The one I didn't like was chocolate, too! Last year I'd have definitely eaten it even though it was only so-so. I didn't do as well as I could have in the airport, but I wasn't too bad. Next trip isn't until mid-January, so I have some time to figure out how to do better. The rest of the food at the meeting was buffet. Having been dilligent about counting calories for a while beforehand helped. I knew that I could take less and not be hungry by break time. Plus, I was so busy and there were bottles of water everywhere. My biggest mistake was staying up too late on Tuesday night - I decided to sleep instead of eat breakfast. The mid-morning snack on Wednesday was cherry turnovers and apple strudel. I probably could have had better options at the buffet breakfast and skipped the snack. I'll have to remember that for January's meeting... I have gotten out of the habit of logging my food (no time to do it at the meeting, and now I'm on vacation - being at work makes me much more organized). I was down to 297 when I got back from the trip, but a few days at home changed that. A while ago someone else mentioned that their husband also lost weight as a result - I think mine is, too. He complained that he had no clean jeans today, and rummaged through the closet and found a pair of kakhis that haven't fit for ages, and now they fit!!He refuses to believe it's because we don't eat out as much (it's easier for me to log food I make myself or buy frozen). Oh well - even if he doesn't believe he'll still lose weight!! Sorry for the long post - I'm talkative and everyone is napping!

Blue - thanks for the words of encouragement. Only 104 more to go and my BMI is in the healthy range. For the first time, that actually sounds possible. Partly because now I'm aiming for the upper end of the range instead of the middle - that automatically puts me 25 pounds closer! But mostly because all of you are so supportive!! Thank you! I work a half day tomorrow, then Tuesday and Wednesday are a trip to a business meeting, and then I'm done with work for the year! I was worried about it - I eat much better at work than at home since there's more of a schedule. I don't work out, though, so this will give me some time to start a habit, and maybe it will carry into January. Still a little nervous about the business trip, but I figure 2 days can't be that bad if I really think about what I eat. It's in a hotel, so all of the meals are buffet except dinner. I don't eat most of the dinner usually (it's an awards banquet so they usually have steak and lobster - I don't eat either), so I'm hungry that evening. Guess this is where that planning thing comes in to play, huh? I need to figure out some ideas for breakfast on the way there and dinner on the way home - can't imagine that the options they give you on the plane are really all that good for you.

Blue - congrats!! It's always nice to have a round number as your total! Jenn, I agree with Val - a filter pitcher makes all the difference in the world. Not sure how the cost compares to bottled, but I don't think it would be more expensive. Still haven't done my measurements - I keep forgetting. I did remember to weigh myself this morning... Starting Weight (SW): 304 Current Weight (CW): 298 (finally under 300!) Total Weight Gain/Loss: 6 Target Goal Weight(GW): 294 (1/1/07) I have 2 DVDs from NetFlix at home, haven't tried either of them. I have an old Firm tape that I love and a Janis Saffle DVD that I like (probably spelled her name wrong); just would like something new. Both the DVD and VCR players are broken, so I only have the DVD player on my laptop (does mean I can workout in any room in the house, though!). What do you do for cardio? I've been tempted by walking, but it snowed so the trail is either mud or ice depending on the temperature.

vklamorick, congrats on the loss!! Jenn, thanks for the update on the monitor. I have to agree, it's fascinating. It sounds so useful. here are my stats... Starting Weight (SW): 304 Current Weight (CW): 300.5 Total Weight Gain/Loss: 3.5 Target Goal Weight(GW): 294? no idea what it was when we started, but I know I need a new one since I was MIA for a month. 294 is just over 1.5lbs per week, so I think I'll go with that. No cardio last night, though I did make a conscious effort to be more active at work. Younger step-son's girlfriend is coming to visit in December, so this weekend will be spent cleaning and moving boxes - I'm sure to get some cardio in that way!! Plus I increased my plan with Netflix to have an extra DVD and re-started my queue that's just workout DVDs. First one should arrive tomorrow. Anyone have favorite DVD workouts that I should look for?

Monday: 72 oz water, 0 min exercise Tuesday: 40 oz water, 0 min exercise Today's goal is to get some exercise in. It's going to have to consist of moving boxes and cleaning - I realized that the treadmill is burried (in a section of the basement that I can't really get to), and the only place I can do a DVD is also full of boxes and stuff. Thanks for the great breakfast ideas!

Hello! I've missed you all so much!! It took me a few days, but I think I've finally read through all of the posts I missed. You have been doing great - I'm so proud of everyone. I completely fell off the wagon getting used to having a full house again. Soda, fast food, the lot. Evidently I also upped my activity level - my weight stayed between 303 and 305 the whole time (it was 304 when my second step-son moved in). Along comes Thanksgiving, and I went down to 301??? That got me to come back here and get caught up. Today I even logged everything - only 40 calories above the low end of my planned range, and I even splurged a bit! (not drinking soda certainly helped - I was focused today on getting in my 8 glasses of water because (after the first week's challenge) I know it has the quickest effect on how I feel) This week's challenge couldn't be better timed - it's my biggest hurdle!! Thanks Queenie (and I mean that with all sincerity)!! Before I run to bed, one question for you... anyone have a favorite high fiber, high protein breakfast? I don't eat eggs on their own (as in I won't eat them scrambled, poached, boiled, in quiche, etc. but I will eat them in things), and don't like oatmeal, so I never seem to find breakfasts in cookbooks/diets that actually are good for me. I tend to eat at work, and have access to a fridge, toaster, and microwave. I try to stay away from the cafeteria - the fresh fruit and milk are overpriced and everything else is close to the dangerous food. (and if I should be asking this elsewhere, please let me know - this is the only thread I've really explored on calorie-count; I feel safe with you!) Congrats again on all of the weight loss everyone! Talk to you tomorow!!

Hello everybody!! I've missed you all so much. First my weigh-in and then an update... Starting weight: 304 Current weight: 304 Total Weight Gain/Loss: none - still proud of that as strange as it sounds - I'm well below where I would normaly gravitate back to after not paying attention to eating & exercise, so some good habits seem to be sticking! Ok, for the update (sorry, it's kind of long). Last time I posted (over 2 weeks ago, maybe 3??), I mentioned that my older step-son was coming to visit for a week and I was preparing a room for him. That Friday (10/12) hubby had an 8:30 am appointment with a hand specialist - we thought he had a very bad sprain. Turns out he tore a ligament in his hand and the doc wanted to operate ASAP. We spent that day getting all of the approvals and tests done so that he could have surgery on monday (he has diabetes, gout, and congestive heart failure - he needed bloodwork, an EKG, and approval from his primary and cardiologist!). We got all of it done by 4:50 (including getting the referrals that insurance wanted!). Then it was off to Ikea - we had nothing for the visiting step-son to sleep on! (his brother has been on an air mattress for 3 months...) Saturday I did 10 hrs of driving to visit my brother for his birthday and to pick up my step-son. Sunday we got hubby prepared for the surgery (it's his right hand and of course he's right handed). Everything went well on Monday. They couldn't repair the ligament so they ended up pulling 3 of the bones from his hand and the others will just rearrange to take their place (proximal row carpectomy if anyone is interested - I haven't done much searching since the kids say there are lots of pictures of it - ick!!!) Thankfully the visiting step-son has been a cook in several restaurants and he made meals while I worked. The visit went much better than expected, even though I got nowhere near the cleaning done that I had planned. So, Saturday the 20th we took my step-son back home. Turns out his mom "forgot" to tell him (and us) that he was no longer welcome in her home, and that it wasn't a week-long visit with us, he was moving in with us! His step-dad was somewhat confrontational with my younger step-son saying "over my dead body will he (my older step-son) set foot back in this house" so we went and asked a policeman to supervise my younger step-son taking all of my older step-son's stuff out of the house. We had no room left in the car, but we did manage to get all of his stuff out of the house in one trip (it's almost 3 hours each way, so I was very glad about that!). Thing is, my younger step-son had moved in unexpectedly at the end of July. We're completely not prepared for this (you probably guessed that by the lack of beds LOL!). I know from reading everyone else's posts that I'm not the only one in a difficult position, and you're a great support system!! Gotta run - hubby needs help getting dressed. Again, sorry my post is so long!!

First of all, congrats Blue!! I'm so excited for you!! I know I've been horrible about posting, but tomorrow's another day. I missed weigh-in on Friday; Saturday I was down a pound to 303. Finally moving in the right direction. I've promised myself flowers for my desk at work when I get under 300 - can't wait! My step-son is coming next week for a visit, and I don't have a room or place for a bed for him. The week's going to be spent moving boxes and stuff all over the place to clear out my craft room for him to sleep in - between that and all of Queenie's challenges I'm hoping to see the scale move down again. Here's to a new week!!

Hi everyone! So much reading to get caught up on... Happy Birthday Blue! Today's my hubby's birthday as well. Congrats on having just a little cake and ice cream - it's nice to celebrate yet still be pleased with what you ate. I'm so proud of you!! My weekend away was wonderful, even if I did have a horrendous cold. I didn't pay any attention to what I was eating or drinking while we were gone. Looking back I gravitated to the better choices and took smaller portions than I would have previously - I think it's due to a lot of things from this challenge (especially the fact that I chose water over strawberry lemonade at the wedding reception!!). Sure, I still had some junk, but we bought less than usual and most of it came home instead of all being consumed in the car. Still no weight loss/gain - 304lbs. However, with a road trip, TTOM, and not being very good about what I'm eating, I'm ecstatic to not have gained! No crunches today, will do some tomorrow!

9/19 - 0 cardio, 60 oz water; veggies - 1 serving baby carrots, no fruit (I had a fabulous peach on my desk all day and still managed to not have any fruit!) Things have been hectic at work, and my organization at home has really suffered. I'm busy all weekend (wedding 5 hrs away on Saturday, then Sunday I'm taking step-son to visit his mom which is 3 hrs each way). So... I took tomorrow and Friday as vacation! I'm so excited. Need to do shopping or sewing to have something to wear to the wedding, but that will still leave me tons of time to finally do some cardio, and plan meals/snacks for a few days away from home and for next week as well.

Hi all! I haven't been able to check in for a few days. 9/17 - 64 oz water, no cardio 9/18 - 60 oz water, no cardio kthompson, thanks for posting your thoughts about not being able to meet the challenges. I was beginning to think I was the only one having so much trouble meeting them! I, too, was overwhelmed by being so far away. More than once I didn't do anything because the goal was just too far away. I feel much better knowing I wasn't alone. I'm loving the support from the people on this thread. I'm just going to lower the challenges a bit for myself - still a challenge for me, but an obtainable one with a little increase in effort. I'm never going to win a challenge here against the other people on this board, but I can win a challenge compared to what I did the prior week. For instance, last week's fruit and veggie intake equated to 1 apple and 1 cup of romaine lettuce (yes, total for the week, not a day; and to be fair, the apple may have been during the prior week). Aiming for 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day is setting me up for failure this week. Ashley has good goals - I'm just going to interpret it as increasing my daily intake until I'm aiming for 5 a day. Granted, this means I probably won't be meeting the December goals until some time next spring!!

I have big plans for some serious cleaning/decluttering/organizing this weekend, and hubby is taking the car both days. If I need anything I have to walk to the store - since I'm not the most organized of people, my guess is that I'll easily get 45 minutes in each day just from shopping! lol (and now that I've posted that I'm cleaning, I'll feel guilty if I don't do it - maybe it will actually get done for a change) |

9/11 (sorry - forgot to post yesterday!) water - 50 oz cardio - 0 min (went shopping with the idea of walking for 45 minutes around the mall and then shopping, but I got distracted and window shopped for 45 minutes instead - much too slow to count as cardio!) 9/12 water - 30 oz (which explains the headaches I've had today) cardio - 10 min

No weight loss, but it's completely understandable - no exercise and somewhat poor eating. I'm ecstatic that it didn't go up! (you'd think that being just 5 pounds away from changing that first number would make me more motivated!) Current Weight (CW): 304 Total Weight Lost (TWL): 0 Water Intake for 9/9/07: 96 oz

98oz for me on 9/8 Love the new challenge - it's exactly what I need. I've had NO motivation to do any cardio at all lately. This week's challenge has helped me a lot with increasing my water intake - hopefully it will do the same with convincing me to do some cardio!

9/6 - 40 oz 9/7 - 50 oz I'm doing much better today, and I'm not at work! Until this challenge I didn't realize that I've slowly cut back on the water I drink at work - probably explains the headaches I was getting. Still having problems remembering to order water instead of soda when we go out, though I did remember at lunch today. Our 12 year weddnig anniversary is tomorrow so dad, step-mom, 2 brothers, and grandparents drove 3.5 hours to have lunch with us, then 3.5 hours home (love my family!). They all had beer and soda and I remembered to order water with lemon. Granted, I didn't do well at all with my food choices, but we'll focus on the water today! Nycolea - that sounds like a great goal! I'm so impressed that you've decided to start this early - much better than trying unhealthy fad diets just weeks before prom. Good luck! Kaiti

Not as good as I was expecting for yesterday - only 45oz for 9/4. Could have been more, but I wasn't paying attention and brought a mostly empty glass to my meeting (I can usually drink at least 20 ounces in an hour meeting without noticing). Then, in the evning I had a hard time measuring it - the cat kept stealing my water! I had it on the floor while I was watching TV, and more than once I caught him drinking it. Thing is, he had a full dish and it was the same filtered water I was drinking - he just wanted mine! I'm really impressed by everyone else's numbers - it's definitely helping to motivate me!
