Does anyone know if medications bought at a super market work well? |

I have a few things that I absolutely cannot stand...
- When people my age call me "honey" or "sweetheart" or any other name like that. It makes me want to punch them in the face.
- When people are trying to make a point and they ask/answer their own questions (Did I want to go to the party? No. But did I have a good time? Absolutely.)
- When anyone goes on and on about their weight or personal body issues. It gets uncomfortable real quick. Especially if it is a thin person just fishing for complements. I can only tolerate giving out meaningless complements (or lies haha) for so long...
- When you are trying to vent or share a story and the person you are talking to completely misses the goal of listening and they just start talking about a story that "tops" yours. Just freaking shut up and let me talk!
:) That felt good. |

Thanks everyone!! I feel a lot more motivated having people support me :) If anyone has any other words of encouragement, they are certainly welcomed!
p.s. Is anyone aware of a different type of birth control (injectable, pill, implant only - no IUDs) that have a lesser effect on weight or cravings? I am only on Nuva Ring to help regulate my periods, so I'm not concerned about the contraception aspect of it. |

Thanks for your help, Chrissy :) I am just in tremendous need of some motivation. It's so easy to get into these cycles of not caring, eating too much, and being lazy. But I don't want to get into that again! |

This might sound weird, but it made me very happy to read that you referenced something I posted a few days ago :) Just the fact that someone pays attention to my posts makes me feel better
I have had some changes in my life: - I moved back into my parent's home for the summer (was away for school in my own apartment) - I started the Nuva Ring about 2 weeks ago - I don't have classes or a job anymore (i.e. more lazy time) - I don't have the convenience of hanging out with all my college/apartment frineds like I did when I was on campus. It's like I have to make new friends this summer.
Okay, so all that said...how do I fix this? I just ate 6 brownies and feel like I could eat more :( |

I just tried out this recipe, and I'm sorry to say, I thought it was disgusting. I used less cottage cheese (I just wanted to make a taste) and kept putting more and more cheesecake pudding mix in, but it never started tasting good...

I am having the same exact issues.
I am 20 years old, 5'6", and I weigh 130. Over the past two months (approximately), I have gained about 10 pounds, even though I have started a healthier diet and started working out more. I don't know where this weight is coming from.
Everything tells me it's a thyroid issue because I have irregular, heavy periods, irritability, extreme fatigue, and no stamina when I work out (I get very lightheaded and sick to my stomach).
However, I've had several blood tests done - some of which I'm pretty sure were thyroid screens - but my doctors have not found anything "conclusive."
It's super frustrating and I don't know what to do. Let me know if you guys come to any solutions. |

Thanks for the input! Is it typically covered by insurance? I have BC/BS so I hoping they can help me out with that insane price. |

Haha snorting birth control is definitely an option. I am not sexually active - I'm 20 and single - so having my partner feel the wire is not of great concern to me. But you said you could actually feel the IUD yourself? That's something I'll keep in mind. Doesn't sound too appealing. |

I'm not a tuna person, either, vicki, but I love it just because it is low calorie, high protein, and easy to stash in your cabinets! I find mayonaise more disgusting than anything I could ever imagine, so I mix tuna with barbecue sauce. I swear it's delicious. I like to put it on toasted bread as a barbecue sandwich. If you add enough barbecue sauce, it loses the fishy flavor and it's just like chicken!! |

I just don't know when I transition from "young teenager body" to "adult woman body" and my caloric needs changes from 2000 to (what I'm eating now) 1400. I don't feel like a teenager, so I guess that's why I think I don't need that many calories. |

Thanks, gi-jane! 2000 calories is normal, I know, but seems like so much since I've been used to fewer calories. I want to treat my body right--that's more important to me than gaining/losing weight. I hope I'll be able to reverse the damage I've done over the past years! |

Justin-- If I am right, you are talking about Sarah Chapman. I went to high school with her, we were sorority sisters, and she used to drive me to school for a year or two. It still hasn't registered in my brain what happened to her. I can't believe it. It's so tragic. I live in Tuscaloosa now for school, so I will not be able to attend the visitation or funeral. If you remember, pass along my condolences. My name is Melissa Clem; her parents will know who I am. I hope you are doing well, too. It's so hard to wrap your head around someone so young passing away. |

I would avoid buying them, and I do, when I am at my apartment. But I am home with my parents this weekend and they bought all this junk food for ME---knowing I like to eat healthy. Ugh, it's awful. Something that was meant to be a treat turned into a nightmare! And what's even worse is that I'm not even full! I could probably eat something else! |

I think everyone is missing the point of this thread. My intention with this post was NOT to attack the media or skinny people. I wanted only to bring some positivity into such a negative, demanding society. There is absolutely nothing wrong with losing weight to be healthy; nothing wrong with being naturally thin; nothing wrong with working out to tone. It seems like everyone here thinks I want to picket MTV and make everyone fat and happy. Not the case. I want people to recognize their worth and beauty separate from their weight and size. There are imperfections in all of us, but joy can be found in loving ourselves for who we are (even who we are while we work on losing weight for a healthier exterior). Did I clear some things up?? :) |

Original Post by marekat: And that is exactly the kind of response I was trying to get from YCCers!! My point was that no matter what size you are--naturally skinny, chubby, average, or whatever, it is awesome to love your body for its shape! I'm glad to hear that you have been able to lose weight and are still working on being healthy! That is something to be happy and proud about! There is absolutely nothing wrong with working out, getting in shape, or losing weight; it should be done for the sake of health and not because you are trying to seek happiness with yourself. I can understand wanting to be happy with the work you have put in to be healthy, but body image and self worth are not one in the same. And btw: I'm not over 35, nor have I had a child. I am 19 and it breaks my heart seeing young ladies all around me suffering from body image issues. I just had to share my opinion! |

Original Post by aerogers: Like I said in my original post, I used to be heavier and yes, I have dealt with body image issues and disordered eating in the past. The point of my topic was to show everyone that, no matter what jiggles on me or what is available to poke, I have found happiness and satisfaction with myself. Eating disorders generally come from having negative feelings about oneself. Obesity has roots in emotional eating or finding happiness in food (not to say those are the only reasons people become obese). Eating disorders like anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa typically develop due to poor self esteem and negativity towards oneself--whether that is attributed to the media, family, friends, or the own sufferer's mind. So my point is: to find happiness and peace within yourself will fight the demons whispering horrible things in your ear. A little light always conquers darkness. |

Man, things are starting to get pretty heated in this thread! And just to clear things up: I was not trying to attack the media or naturally thin people. I am not even trying to attack thin people at all. My point was to bring attention on loving yourself no matter what size you may be and not getting discouraged by being bigger than the next girl. I was intending on girls posting what they love about themselves--girls who share my point of view--but a healthy debate never hurt anyone either! Just don't get me wrong: I don't think all weight/body image issues stem from the media. They originate from family issues, peer pressure, low self esteem, and comparisons. My focus wasn't to diss Nicole Richie and those starlets. |

Hey girls! I am so excited to see this thread take off like this! I love the debate about how the media affects young women's minds/how it doesn't. I can see both sides and I agree that people feed into the image the media portrays. BUT, the point of my topic was for girls to reject the media's/peer's/parent's/boyfriend's/horrible little voice's demands to be thinner. Happiness does not come with being thin. Happiness comes with loving yourself and living to love others. And losing weight shouldn't be in the equation of being happy. If you strive to be healthy, then I can agree, losing weight is a good reason to be happy. I want some real accounts of girls being happy with their curves, their weight, and the things they love about themselves--despite what everything around them is saying. |

| Vegetarian | omgggg my FACE! | Aug 09 2008 23:18 (UTC) |
|
braillepassion, I have very sensitive skin, with persistent acne/cystic breakouts. I'm sure we are in the same boat when it comes to frustration and desperation about our skin (am I right??) A few years ago, I went to my GYN about a lump in my breast; I was so scared I had been cursed with the breast cancer beast that runs in my family. To my relief, he told me it was just a cyst and informed me that some people are ultra-sensitive to caffeine, causing breakouts or lumps to appear elsewhere in the body. Just a few weeks ago, I finally made the connection between my breast lump scare and the painful cystic acne I get so often on my face. I completely cut caffeine--it was so hard because I am a coffee addict!!--but I noticed right away my skin started clearing up. I can tell by your original post that you take in A LOT of caffeine through coffee drinks and green tea. That may be the source of your problem. I suggest cutting caffeine for a few weeks to see if that helps your skin; it's worth a try!! Good luck! Let us all know any updates! |

Hey girls! I just started reading some entries in this thread and they are kind of making me nervous :( I think it's wonderful you ladies are getting involved and motivated to be healthy, but remember that it is healthy (and necessary) to gain weight throughout your adolescence. I am 19 years old, so please don't think I'm some old lady harping you about weight issues. When I was 14, I barely hit the 100pound mark. Now--only 5 years later--I weigh 125. I just don't want you girls to think that not being able to fit into the same jeans you did last year--as a prepubescent child--is a bad thing. Embrace the womanly curves you are developing and don't try to reverse it! Trying to halt your natural growth pattern can and will cause all sorts of problems for you, I promise. Let your body do it's thing!! I'm not suggesting you sit on the couch and eat potato chips all day; it's still suggested that teenagers eat healthy and exercise. Just don't focus on losing weight. Focus on being healthy!! |

Ever heard of photo/video editing? My best friend does that for a living and I see first hand the crazy things they can do and still keep it looking natural. Unless you have met Jessica Alba in person, don't compare yourself to her or think her body in photos or movies is realistic. Even if she honestly is built like that, it may bot have come about by healthy means. Don't underestimate your beauty. |

Hey guys... Check this out: I scheduled an emergency appointment yesterday with my gynecologist. They were able to slide me in where someone had canceled yesterday afternoon. And wouldn't you know, an hour before my appointment, I started my period. I guess I'll be giving them another call in about a week, eh? |
