Foods Cereal?! Nov 19 2009

original fiber one. 60 calories per serving (1/2 cup) and I usually have three servings. It's really filling and tastes good. Have it with 2% milk (instead of fat free) and you'll be fuller for even longer.

Weight Loss Would you consider this a binge? Nov 19 2009

A binge is a large amount of food eaten in an out of control manner in a two hour time span. If you ate all that throughout the day, I don't think it's a binge to be honest, just some over indulging. I would make sure not to do that often though, if I added it up correctly that equals about 6,000 calories...that could cause a lot of weight gain if done on a frequent basis.

To tell the truth, I didn't know that much or care until my uncle got diabetes.  I still don't nitpick like crazy though.  However, one of my friends (who is overweight, though not as much as she claims), will not eat for 1-2 days (no joke) and then she'll consume a massive Eli's cheesecake, by herself...so...

that sounds like non-purging bulimia. Please talk to her about this. Maybe she doesn't know what is doing is an eating disorder. She needs help.

haha 20 calories for 10 chips? I wish!! But really, if I had friends that oblivious about food and calories I'd let them stay that oblivious. I wouldn't correct them. I wish I never lost my "food innocence". Somehow life was much better when I didn't care about my body or food.

I eat everything I crave. Just in moderation. Count it in your calories. You can fit in almost ANYTHING you want to eat as long as you are mindful of portion size.

But, sugar-free gum. It helps me when I want to chew but am not really hungry. I just want to chew.

Weight Loss If i stop exercising, will I not lose weight? Nov 09 2009

You should still lose weight without exercising if you restrict your calorie intake to 1200 - 1600, but really exercising is fun! You just need to find something you like. Have you tried playing basketball or soccer? How about jumping jacks? Even maybe taking an exotic dancing class? They are SO FUN, you don't even feel like you are exercising. Seriously.

p.s. ppl wanted to be "fat" back then because they have to f-end work like crazy and they view being "fat" is being healthy since they have no f-end clue what the heck are diabeaties and heart diease

She's 5'8" & 145 lbs. Please tell me how that isn't a healthy weight? Her BMI is 22.0. That's healthy.

And that's not why people wanted to be "fat" back then. If you were plump that meant you had the money to afford food. It meant you were wealthy. If you were thin that meant you were poor.

P.S.
Please learn how to spell. It will probably be useful sometime in your life.

Please stop calling me lady. Thanks.

You are asking people to decide between anorexia or obesity if they were forced to pick one or the other. By asking that, you are completely missing the point on what anorexia nervosa really is. It is a mental illness. Not a body type. It's awesome that you are a nurse and educated in the field of medicine, but that doesn't automatically make you educated on the topic of eating disorders.

And I'm not being sensitive. Any person who actually understands what anorexia is would agree with me, as quite a few members here have already stated.

Your question would have been better off phrased as:
"If forced to choose, would you rather be underweight or obese."

No one would have a problem with your post then.

yuppie..you have to choose ..

I don't think you read anything I wrote. I spent time trying to educate you.
I'll post it again. Read it this time.

As a recovered anorexic, this is really offensive and pretty ignorant.

You can't choose to be anorexic. However you can choose to be obese...although for many people it isn't a choice either, it's an eating disorder as well (BED or COE).

My highest BMI was 27.3 and my lowest BMI was 10.7.

I can tell you firsthand that being emaciated and anorexic was much worse than being overweight.

You can't even begin to imagine the pain. It gives me chills now thinking about it. Being anorexic hurts. Everything in my body hurt. All the time. I was so skeletal I got bruises just from laying in my bed. I couldn't sit for too long because the bones in my butt and hip would start to burn, but I couldn't stand for too long either because I was so weak. I tried to ride a bike, and just from sitting on the seat, I bruised my tail bone so much that I had to sit on one of those donut-pillows for two months. I have permanent heart and liver damage. I will die young. Despite being only 21, I probably can't have kids. I have had irregular periods for the past three years, not to mention the two years where I had no period at all.

Aside from the physical consequences, there are permanent mental implications too. I sometimes weigh water on my digital food scale. I sometimes weigh packaged energy bars and apple slices and creamer for my coffee. I will never have a normal relationship with food. I will never be okay with my body. I will never be able to weigh myself without freaking out to the point where I want to kill myself. I will never be able to feel upset or stressed without wanting to binge and purge or starve. I can't count calories anymore because it automatically becomes an overwhelming obsession.

My eating disorder will torture and haunt me for the rest of my life.

I think if any person bothered to fully educate themselves on what anorexia nervosa REALLY is, they would much rather be obese.

anorexic the recovery is more fun

No it isn't, it's bloody hard work and I doubt many people who have been there would describe recovery as fun.

Stupid question, stupid answer.

Seriously. Anorexia recovery basically just involves a lot of nasty Ensure drinks (or a feeding tube) and a lot of tears. It is not the fun you think it is.

Before I developed an eating disorder, I used to say things like "I wish I was underweight, then I could eat more and gain weight, it would be so awesome". If only I knew then how wrong I was.

Weight Loss I don't think I need 1200 calories a day... May 27 2009

1100 calories a day isn't a starvation diet for me. I'm maintaining a weight that my doctor considers healthy for me, and he thinks as long as I take a multi-vitamin daily, then 1100 is fine. But that is just for me, everybody is different of course and perhaps other girls who are 4'11" have a higher metabolism than I do. Then obviously they should be eating more.

1200 calories/day requirement wasn't calculated for a 100 lb 5'0" woman. It was for a 100 lb 5'2" woman. 3 inches less of height is a big difference.

Yes, all anorexia sufferers are different, but I have talked to quite a few women who have told me that they, too, ate 900 calories a day while sick. 900 is dangerous because WHO considers it actual starvation. 1000, while obviously not the ideal intake for every person, is far healthier than an intake of 900. Although the difference of 100 calories seems insignificant and measly, it's truly not. Also, if someone is underweight then I would definitely not advocate 1000 calories a day, but if someone is in the high end of the healthy weight range and trying to lose a few lbs while being under 5 feet tall, then I personally believe that 1000 is fine. IN THE SHORT TERM. Never did I say to eat that amount for the rest of her life.

Weight Loss I don't think I need 1200 calories a day... May 26 2009

I'm 21 years old, 4'11", and 90 lbs. I started at 140 lbs. I couldn't lose weight on 1200 calories a day either, I had to eat 1000 and I exercised daily for 20 - 40 minutes.

Now I'm maintaining on 1100 calories and 20 minutes of exercise five days a week.

Honestly, I think 900 is a bit extreme and dangerous, that has the potential to become an eating disorder (contrary to the popular belief that anorexics don't eat, they really do. I ate 900 a day when I was skeletal & anorexic four years ago).

People on this site go crazy if you talk about eating less than 1200 a day, but most people here are average height or taller. They don't understand that when you are as short as us, you need less fuel. I'm not talking starvation amounts, but 1000 - 1100 is fine for us as long as you take a multi-vitamin and aren't doing hours of exercise daily. It would make sense to them if they actually took the time to think about it. We have less bone, muscle, and even fat - we need slightly less calories to stay alive, lose weight, and maintain weight than they do.

Honey, you are 13 years old. I know teenagers don't want to hear that they are still kids (I sure didn't), but you are. You will regret wasting your youth concentrating on food, exercise, and weight SO MUCH when you are older.

I'm 21 years old and if I could go back and do my teenage years old without dieting, I would.

YOU ARE THIN. You do not need to be losing weight, restricting calories, exercising 30+ minutes a day. Your body is still growing taller and you probably haven't even hit puberty yet, which means your entire body shape is going to change to develop breasts & hips. If you don't eat enough (2000+ calories a day), you will not end up as tall as you could be. You might be supposed to end up at 5'10", but you could stop growing at 5'3" if you continue starving yourself like this.

Stop counting calories, just eat three meals & two - three snacks a day and you will be healthy. If you can't stop dieting on your own, please talk to your mother and get help. It isn't shameful to ask for help, it means you are a strong, brave, self-aware person who wants to live and be happy.

Life is very short and the time you have to be a teenager is even shorter, it will fly by so fast and you will wake up one day at 21 years old and regret all the years you spent thinking about this. PLEASE GET HELP.
