| I'd def say keep fruit, bread, milk and cereal in the room. My college only serves apples, bananas, and canned fruit, no berries or anything like that. | |||

| cheaper in the off season? That doesn't make sense to me because they have to ship them from somewhere far away where they are able to grow them, and there is so much less of them avilable then in season so then the price goes up due to supply and demand? | |||

| I"m a sophmore at Stonehill College in Mass. I didn't get into my first choice school, which was Providence College in RI but honestly now I think it was better. i really liek Stonehill a lot and think I feel a lot more at home ere then I would have at PC. HOwever, PC was in the middle of a fun city, which Stonehill is not but overall it's been fine. We don't have any chain fast food joints at the moment, though I've heard they are putting a dunkin donuts in the new science building, which isn't that bad. i might stop by once in a while and get a cofee or bagel or something. Overall, the cafeteria has lots of choices if you are determined to lose weight, but the pizza and bakery can be tempting! :P | |||

Fresh apple cider is the best ever! | |||

| If they have a brown rice option take that. Steamed vegetables and rice will be good. Ask for no sauce or sauce on the side. SOy sauce has a ton of sodium. Watch out for the soups too. I think wonton might be ok besides the salt, but I'm sure a lot of them like egg drop probab;y aren't. I've heard to stay away from sweet and sour options as well. Watch out ofr those fried noodles they give you. They are cooked submerged in oil. BUt in reality one day won't kill you. Just try and eat healthy the rest of the day, but don't not eat for the rest of the day. You'll just get hungry have cravings and it will backfire. Maybe you can have a small salad or snack before you go to the meeting to fill up some? Good luck! | |||

| Having a smoking section in a resteraunt is like having a peeing section in a pool
I"m so glad that NY has banned smoking just about everywhere. It seems weird now when I travel if a resteraunt asks smoking or non smoking, or seeing someone smoking in a hotel lobby or mall or whatever. And I agree about the parents and the car thing as well. Maybe somehow they can enforce something about smoking when pregnant, though you don't look pregnant for a long time and the damage can be done early..... |

| apprently the Japanese guy who always wins the Coney Island Hot Dog Eating Contest on the fourth of July (America's Independence Day), is now suffering from an arthritic jaw. It's really disgusting how much they eat. The record is something like 59 hot dogs in 12 minutes. They do have to train for it otherwise they would just get sick very quickly. I'm sure they must exercise a lot and eat really healthy on non training days. I'd be interested in learning their cholesterol and blood sugar and things like that. | |||

| I gained about 7 lbs my forst semester. While that wasn't a big deal apperance wise as I was underweight and those 7 lbs put me on the border, I knew I had gained the weight eating tons of fried chicken, pasta alfredo, pop tarts etc. So after first semester I made a list of new years resolutions including things like fried chicken no more than once a week, red meat at least but no more than twice a week, bagels no more than twice a week etc. and you know what, I now eat healthier at school than I do at home. I once asked my mom when the last time she had fruit was, and she said 4 days ago! My school only had apples and bananas and those island oasis smoothies but I made the best of it. My school has whole wheat bread, and pasta, and bagels, stuff my dad won't touch. So it really is possible to healthier at school. My cafeteria has a napkin board in whicj people write suggestions and complaints on napkins and pink it to the bulletin board and hte school does take it into consdieration, that's how the whole wheat pasta came about. See if your food company offeres nutrionists (your counselling or health services may be helpful too). My school uses sodexo and does have one, to help students make the most of cafeteria food. The best advice they give is to eat colorful food, brown pasta, red sauce, green veggies, etc. as opposed to white bread, white cheese, white pasta etc. I hope that helped some. | |||

| Bertucci's is walking distance from my college! :)
I don't know what the calorie count is, but when I go there, I usually get an individual pizza (chicken marghareta, a lot less oily then the regular pizza with less cheese and more sauce, plus basil!) and eat half of it there and half of it for dinner the next day. The rolls are amazing though, I try to limit myself to two, but I only go there as a treat, as I have to use up my college meal plan. |

| Foods | Can eating a lot of protein cause you to gain muscle? | Apr 30 2007 16:51 (UTC) |

| All calories are equal but some offer more nutrition which keep you fuller longer and give your body what it needs. Say you eat 250 calories worth of whole wheat pasta, you'll feel fuller then if you just ate a poptart even if they are the same ammount of calories. | |||
