I am 5ft 9 and am maintaining at 143lb. I was 160lb in June. Dont be discouraged - youve done 3 weeks and lost 6lb in total - thats a great achievement! Try to keep your calories at least 1450 a day. I usually eat what ever I want on Friday and saturday evenings too and dont calorie count those meals. Have done this throughout my weight loss. Remember that your body changes as you get older - I was about 130lb till I was in my twenties. Dont set your target too low - 120 does sound low and may not be maintainable. Target 140lb and reasses when you achieve that and keep up the fitness training.

My cat lola goes nuts about emery boards! As soon as she sees one or hears me filing my nails she rushes up and tries to get it. If she does she chews it really hard till its mangled up and useless! My cat who died last year, wellington, used to sleep on my head in the night. And he was a big cat! |

| Weight Loss | 1200++ Calories Per Day - Suggestions! Please! | Aug 28 2009 18:14 (UTC) |

Hi. I was just going to say nuts and advocados but susie beat me to it! My other suggestion is seeds - sunflower and pumpkin seeds are high calorie healthy snacks and very portable. 100g is about 520 calories. I like to mash up half an advodado with a tomato and chilli flakes and have on a bagel toasted. Figs or prunes or bananas are nice with greek yoghurt and a drizzle of honey. Adding some olive oil or butter to your current menu or recipes once or twice a day will add calories. And you could have juice/smoothy as a drink with breakfast.

| Weight Loss | So alcohol and weight loss......anyone?? :0))) | Aug 28 2009 17:10 (UTC) |

no you are not alone nutbox. Ive lost a stone now, and I am sure most of thats due to cutting back on drinking wine. I eat really healthy and never eat meat or sweets/chocolate etc however, I do like to drink wine and used to finish off a bottle of wine most nights. However, to lose weight you do have to limit this. Its not easy believe me, but Ive cut down to Friday and saturday nights only. I do feel better in myself for cutting down - especially in the mornings. I sometimes have a becks alcohol free lager in the week - they are only 50 cals - as I dont drink other fizzy drinks or juice. My best advice is to limit yourself, try to alternate with soft drinks, and on clean days avoid situations where alcohol is present. Hope this helps.

Hi - I cooked this recipe which makes 4 meals at 360 cals each. Roast 1 red onion chunked, 3 mixed peppers cut into chunks, 2 garlic clove, 8 cherry tomatoes in 1 T olive oil for 15-20 mins. Sprinke with 1tsp ground cumin 5 mins before end. Meanwhile, measure 1/2 pint dry quinoa and add 1 pint boiling water, simmer for 10 mins until water absorbed. Fluff up quinoa with 1T olive oil, add roasted veg, 3 tbsp chopped parsley, 3 tbsp chopped mint leaves and juice of 1/2 lemon. Hope this helps! |

Hi Jodi. You have totally transformed your lifestyle! stick with it and you will be at target in no time. I wont be in the August challenge as am now just 1.5 lb from Target weight of 146 - a total loss of a stone since 30 June. I agree that exercise is the magic key. I increased my classes at studio from 3 a week to 7 a week, and it has helped without a doubt. Good Luck. Jennie. |

Hi - cute baby picture! First well done on losing over 3lb in your first week. Dont be so hard on yourself - you have a new baby and thing can be difficult at that time - even getting dressed and out the house! Like you, I eat a bit more at the weekends and know I will put a bit back on, but overall the trend is downwards and thats what will matter in the long run. Dieting shouldnt make you feel miserable - it is just controling what you put in your mouth. Its normal to be hungry sometimes so allow it to happen. I think your target of Sept 2010 is too far away to mean much. Break it down into smaller 'chunks' and aim for those. Say lose 10lb in 8 weeks. Set a date - make a chart - hang it on the fridge - fill it in. Dont buy junk food. Eat lots of fruit/veg and eat healthy whole foods. Be in control 80% of the time and you will do it. Good luck. |

have stuck with diet (1250 calories during week and extra (wine) on fri & sat nights) since start of challenge. Lost 5lb in first week and 3lb to yesterday, but weighed today and have put 1.5 lb back on. I did have 1650 calories yesterday including wine. Am drinking lots of water today and dandelion tea as think it may be 'water weight'. Do you think I should increase my calories next week to say 1450 per week day? (I find it hard at weekend when I am going out for meals and parties etc.) I do exercise every day for an hour, pump cardio etc. I need to lose about another 7lb in all - hopefully by end of August. Also, I am pescatarian (no meat - fish occassionally) how many grams of protein a day should I aim for? What sort of calorie deficit should I have on eat meter about 500? Thanks for any help |

Hi. Firstly go to BMI Tool - which is on tools - and input your stats. Your BMI comes out at 25, and ideally it should be 17.1 - 24.2, which is 115lb - 145lb. To get into healthy range you need to lose 5lb which isnt much! Set your self a target, of say 10lb or a stone to start with. Go on your account - account settings, and put in your start weight - 150lb and target weight of say 140lb, and other details such as how active you are, frame etc. Then the computer will work out calories per day and target date. You need to be on at least 1250 calories a day minimum. You should aim to lose 1 or 2 lb a week. Then you enter your weight on your weight log, and start recording your food on the food log and activity on the activity log. When you go to My Account you will see calories used so far and calories eaten. At the end of each day you should aim to have a deficit of about 500 (ie you have worked off 500 more calories than you have eaten) Theres lots of help on site as to what to eat, low fat etc. but hope this helps get you started. Good Luck. |

29/6/09 160lb 5/7/09 155lb Am very pleased! Have been working out every day this week with weights, thai kick and a ten mile bike ride across country. Have also stuck to 1200 calories a day. After this week (if i make it that long) i will increase calories to 1500.
Vievien - i think you should concentrate on giving your body time to recover from an operation. Follow the doctors advice.

| hi spartan bear - thanks for adding me as a friend. Have done the same although Im not very good at this. Ive had quite a good week - the sun is shining at last. Thanks to Valsgoal - you must think me a right dim wit. Geography never was my strong point - id be hard pushed to tell you where america is on a map - let alone TN :) . Didnt loose any weight this week, but am not down spirited as my scales are pretty crappy and I feel thinner. I do love friday & saturday nights though, so I dont calorie count those evenings. I think 80/20 is the way to go - be good 80% of the time - that way I dont get fed up or feel hard done by.
Did you have a good week at work? Although im in my 40s, Im about the youngest in my office which is great - Id hate to be stuck all day with a load of teenagers wittering on about their boyfriends!! Ive got one of thos at home (no- not boyfriend - a teenager). Only joking - Im sure theyre all really nice although it is hard to be a manager!! Keep in touch XX |

| Hi - you really dont need to worry about wearing a bikini. You look really slim. Dont be so hard on yourself - you should try to relax a bit and have some fun. If it makes you feel more comfortable, wear a scarf or sarong round your hips, but really really honest - you dont need to hide anything. Just hit the beach and have a great time. | |||

| Hi Spartanbear. I dont usually post on this site, but I use the food & weight log. Just happened to notice your thread! I agree, its odd how people will reply to 'how many calories are in this biscuit' and yet not reply to someone who describes themselves as lonely! I looked at your photos - you looked fantastic!! Im sure you can get back to that weight - you sound determined to do it. I guess you live in America hope the weathers better than it is here. (South London pee-ing down all day- thats our summer). I have two girls - 12 and 15 - just starting to do their own thing. I miss taking them to the playground, swimming and stuff. Seems like me and my husband are here to taxi them about and top up their bank cards! I work full time too, so I appreciate how difficult it can be to keep all those balls in the air. Weight wise, Im not a stress eater - if I get stressed I stop eating! Not much help Im afraid. Ive never been overweight - my weight fluctuates by half stone up and down. As soon as I hit 11 stone I start cutting down back to 10 and half, etc etc. As a result have been watching my diet for last 20 years!! Good luck starting your new weight loss programme. Will check out how youre doing soon. |

| I would recommend that if you are celebrating your mums birthday, that you relax for the evening, and enjoy her company without worrying yourself or her about calories! However, looking at the menu, and www.weightlossresources.co.uk. the low cal options would be the soup you have chosen, and for main course the stir fried chicken and mixed veg. Have the plain boiled rice and eat half only. Depending on the portion sizes, the soup would be approx. 170 cals and the main 330 cals. Rice - a reasonable potion 75g - would be 263 cals. That comes to 763 calories. If you want ice cream, one good scoop would be approx. another 200 calories. With the fruit - say 1100 calories plus drinks. |

| I take a tin 185g of tuna in brine/water drained. mix with 1 egg, some fresh chopped coriander, 2 slices white bread whizzed into breadcrumbs, and 1 teaspoon of red thai curry paste. make into four patties and fry in fry-light spray for a few mins each side. Serve two patties with sweet chilli dipping sauce. I calculated two patties and teaspoon of dipping sauce to be about 240 calories. These are really yummy - my daughter aged 11 eats them! | |||

| This wont be much help I know but ...We have a great meusli in the UK - Dorset cereals -Super High Fibre. It is High Fibre, wholegrain, no added sugar, no added salt, low sodium.
I have 50g everyday with 150 ml of soya milk and a few berries & one kiwi fruit on top. This all comes to about 280 calories - but it does keep you going for a good few hours and tastes yummy |

| Its good that you recognise that you have a problem with sweets! Try to get the support of your family and encourage them to cut down on the sweets/cakes/biscuits too. Dont buy cakes or sweets - replace with other sweet things such as fruit, especially berries, and a low calorie hot chocolate drink can satisfy that chocolate craving. I fing raspberries or cherries great to snack on. I also buy the little mini boxes of sun maid raisins that are only 40 calories. Also distraction can really help - go outside, take a bath, a walk whatever until the feeling has passed. If its late - go to bed and read! Brushing your teeth with minty toothpaste can help take away the need for a taste of sweetness. Try to avoid processed foods and try to eat 'natural' at least 80% of the time. It is healthier and cheaper. |
