Motivation Walking Off the Weight 2 Aug 09 2007

225
I ? WALKING! I started about 4 months ago, basicaly to walk some of the energy out of our little Terrier dog but also because my bones are fragile and I can't run or jog. I started out slow and now am up to 40 - 50 minutes about 5 days a week. I still have some pounds to lose and want to get motivated to lose the last 5 - 7 lbs.  I know the walking helped me lose the first bit of weight and helps me maintain the weight I am now (135) even when I dont watch my calories.

I know I would feel better if I got back to 125, any one else having trouble losing that LAST 5 - 10 POUNDS???
Health & Support Constipation Apr 19 2007

In my 20s I had an emergency hysterectomy and have had lower digestive problems ever since. To avoid constipation I take an herb called cascara sagrada. It is available in the herb/vitamin section and is cheap, about 5 bucks for a bottle of 100. I take one capsule every night after dinner and go poo in the morning just like clockwork.

THE DOWN SIDE is if you are not used to it, it will act like a laxative and can give you cramps. I have been taking it for years and so my body is used to it, sometimes I even skip a night, especially if I am eating a lot of fruits and veggies which seem to act as a natural laxative. Also, drinking lots of water will make you go.

I have also hit a plateau, its that last 5 pounds that I cant seem to get rid of. I eat apples, oranges, NON-fat yogurt, Zone bars, hard boiled eggs, tuna packed in water, meat - fat removed, veggies, raw almonds: all the things you seem to be eating. Things I avoid are cheese, fats (mayo, butter etc.), sugar & potatoes. Things I eat in moderation are breads, pasta, (starches).

I started mixing my vanilla creamer with soy creamer and sweeten with Splenda. I do not drink milk, only soy milk. I eat betweeen 1200 and 1500 calories a day. I am rarely hungry. I also walk 50 min about 5 days a week and am starting to ride my bike again for about 30 min when my knees permit, (bad knees), also- how tall are you? I am only 5' 3".

Anyway, good luck ?

Hello, 52 here and healthier than I've ever been but still struggling to lose 10 pounds that I gained after getting SOBER. I have major back problems too but found that if I do simple Yoga stretches in the morning my back pain goes almost completely away. I also walk for about 40 min, 5 days a week. Can't work out any more because of joint problems but Yoga and walking are non stress, non impact excersizes that work great. Please see my profile for more about me.... good luck with your quest and God bless ?

I had to switch to TEA too! One cup of coffee with 3 Tbsp. of vanilla creamer is 105 calories. Tea with Splenda is 10 calories. Need I say more?
Weight Loss Why I LOVE the Atkins diet Apr 09 2007

Atkins works good but personally, I cant live without SUGAR!!! I really like Atkins protien shakes and always start my day with one because I find if I have protien in the morning I dont crave sugar as much. I still love meat and cheese but find counting calories works better for me because then I can have fruit and a little bread etc... all the things loaded with carbs that I love! Anyway, congrats on the weight loss... keep up the good work ?

Hi - I just wanted to let you know that I would have never survived my life with out help from God. I feel rage when I think about what your parents are doing to you. I had a baby girl when I was 16 and gave her up for adoption. About 2 years ago she found me and how could I have known that her adoptive father would start molesting her at 2 and her mother would never leave him for doing such a horrible thing to a little girl. My daughter grew up to be an alcoholic-addict to deal with the pain. Thank goodness she is clean and sober now but both of us have had our share of heartbreak. Please keep praying and searching for strength from God. Do you have any sane relatives you could go live with? Keep talking to peaople untill SOMEONE listens. Since you are a minor, maybe Child Protective Services could help.

BIG HUGS ((((()))))) to you ;-)
Motivation for those of us with less than 15 lbs to lose... Feb 09 2007

I only have 5 more pounds to lose but I just keep wearing my baggy pants and thinking that its OK if I don't lose it as long as I feel good about myself and am not indulging in self destructive behaviors. I used to be 115 - 120 and am now (GASP) 135! I remember when that would have freaked me out totally. I try not to weigh myself every day and as long and as the weight doesnt go UP, I feel ok about that extra 5 pounds.
Weight Loss when do you weigh yourself? Dec 07 2006

I always weigh myself in the morning, completely nude. I think the key is to weigh at the same time. Once a day is plenty or every other day. On a healthy diet it usually takes about 3 days to lose one pound . Obsessive weighing only causes frustration fo me.  GOOD LUCK!

Wow, I looked at your pictures and you look FINE to me!!! Even at 200 pounds! I am 5' 3" and I do the 1200 cal a day thing. For someone your height , 1600 sounds about right. I cant do Atkins because I crave carbs... as far as counting calories, this website has helped me so much. It lists everything. I have a little scale in my kitchen and I measure. I try not to get too ovsessive about it and always allow myself a dinner out with my husband once a week and I have what ever I want... just smaller portions. GOOD LICK!
Weight Loss Recovering from Thanksgiving Nov 27 2006

Just go back to normal... At Thanksgiving dinner I tried all the foods I love but had just tablespoon portions of the things I knew had lots of carbs and calories like potatoes and stuffing. I had lots of turkey and celery and carrots. When it came to the desserts though, I couldnt stop myself from having a big piece of pie with whip cream. I still wasnt stuffed beyond comprehension but felt overly full. I got up the next day and just started over and didnt beat myself up for having some extra pie. I just joined this site and it seems like many members are way too hard on themselves. I think the most important thing is to have a healthy mind as well as a healthy body!
