| My housemate. We've lived together for a couple of months now, and the only things I've seen her cook are fried eggy bread (white of course) and soup from a can. She told me the other day that she had a tub of Ben & Jerrys for breakfast - at the same time as she was eating her "dinner" tub!
Either that or my Mum, she's forever and always on some "miracle" diet that'll mean she'll regain her figure of 40 years ago, and yet every time I see her she's eating a cream cake or living off nothing but black coffee! |

| I've been a life model a couple of times, and it's fine - just a little chilly :D
But seriously, nobody will think you're a whore and it pays pretty well (and even if they do think you are, the best response is "I got paid X amount to sit on my as$ for a couple of hours and daydream!). Don't worry about the hair situation - a little tidy up or trim and you'll be fine. In my experience, the students don't really think about it, anyway, they're too busy concentrating on getting your proportions right! |

| Skinnyogi, I do the "I'm hungry!!" one when my bloody sugar makes me go mental, too. My poor boyfriend!
And, stolen from my boy's sister: "But chocolate is a vegetable" (Her reasoning being that chocolate comes from cocoa, cocoa comes from a bean, beans can be one of your five a day fruit and veg and therefore chocolate, a bean derivative, is a vegetable! Inspired!) |

| Don't have this problem but wanted to say Yasmin and Yaz are two different products by the same company. Yasmin is a little higher dose and has 7 inactive pills and Yaz is a little lower dose and has 4 inactive pills and can easily be taken continuiously so you don't have your period.
In retrospect I think perhaps the one I was on was/is called something else entirely in the US - it was a 21 day, pill a day, no inactive pills thingy. But yeah I thought Yasmin was a pretty name for a contraceptive pill! |

| I hear you, sister! I get the same thing most months.
First tip - if you're on a progesterone only (mini) pill, come off it. When I took it it turned me into a crazy plate throwing screaming psychopath until my housemate forced me to go back to the doctor. Some combined pills are better than others (Yasmin (think it might be called Yaz in the states) was pretty good for me, but I had to swap brands every couple of years or the moods got worse again. I now have a Mirena (hormone) coil, and although I still get mood swings and random bouts of crying at kittens and lamp-posts or that my tea tastes funny it's much better and lasts half as long as before. Only downside with the coil is it made my cramps worse :( Second tip - Evening primrose oil is your best friend. It makes a hell of a lot of difference. I found it best to keep a record of my cycle and then start taking the oil (2 capsules 3 times a day for me) 2 days before the start of the crazy period, but I don't think it matters if you take it all the time. Third tip - take up a really vigorous sport if you can - it helps with the rage :D If nothing else works, don't go back to Prozac - it's nasty **** and the comedown isn't worth the advantages. You might prefer to try St John's Wort, if you change your birth control. Good luck! |

| Krilia - OMG I thought I was the only one out there who knew about YAFGC! Hooray! My favourite Order of the Stick character is Haley :)
I'm a tabletop roleplayer, sporadically playing in two games (both of highly dubious systems which may or may not have been made up by their GMs when drunk) and running another - WoD Vampire: Dark Ages (or whatever the new edition is called!) with an all female group. I also LRP in two forthnightly games, one Vampire and one cyberpunk style. The only online game I play is a text based one called Torn City, which is a 20's gangster style thing. |

| Somehow (God knows how!) I've never broken a bone. It's got to be a miracle though because I'm about the most accident prone person on the planet.
I got pushed backwards off a (moving) swing when I was 8. I smacked my coccyx on the kerb of the astroturf stuff under it and couldn't feel my legs for two days. But didn't break anything! I've also been clipped by a car (just got a nasty shock and a bruise that covered my whole left leg), kicked by a Shire horse in the chest, which was not a lot of fun and made breathing excruciatingly painful for about a month, and fallen out of my Mum's attic, straight down the stairs to land on my face. D'oh! I've got used to being covered in bruises all the time now!! |

| The Lounge | Former Nail Biters I need your help! | May 15 2008 13:59 (UTC) |

| Tee hee, my mum paid me to stop biting mine when I was 10! I used to bite them so badly that sometimes I would actually rip the whole nail right off (gross!) and it made her cringe. The deal was that I got 20p for each milimetre of each nail I managed to grow, and she would measure them once a week to check my progress. Well, she hadn't reckoned on the freakish amount of willpower a 10 year old can muster when she wants a new pair of Doc Marten boots and has to save for them herself! Eventually I made her part with a small fortune before she decided she'd got the rough end of the deal! I've never bitten them since, but my nails are deformed a bit from biting so much :(
My boyfriend quit by using the nasty tasting nail varnish stuff, but painted it on to the skin by his nails where he couldn't pick it off and still couldn't avoid getting it in his mouth. |

| I had a bad experience on Depo too. I went on it because the Pill had stopped agreeing with me. I was a bit heavy before i went on it, but WOW. I put on about 20lbs in a month. Literally. I had the angriest, reddest stretchmarks all over my stomach and thighs. I was actually too ashamed to take my clothes off in front of my chap. I also made me really depressed most of the time, and a screaming, raving psychopath the rest. It was awful. Eventually a doctor noticed the collection of symptoms and suggested I come off it. Thank God she did.
I'm on the Mirena coil now, which is brilliant! |

| I had a FWB relationship for about a year, until he moved away. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it!) we both got a bit attached, which he couldn't deal with at all, so we had a massive falling-out and didn't speak to eachother for six months!
Long story short, he moved back, we resumed FWB relationship, he is now (very) long term boyfriend! Although my experience didn't really work like that, I do think that this kind of relationship can work. I know some people who have successfully maintained it for a year or more, but it's not an easy thing to do unless you're really able to treat sex as just an act of gratification and not a bonding thing, which most people find quite difficult (women more than men, apparently). And I don't think it's trashy at all! |

| Young Calorie Counters | Anyone doing A Levels? | Feb 19 2008 17:41 (UTC) |

| Hi there!
I did very much the same as you're doing now. I did my GCSE's without having to revise a single subject (except physics, which I suck at) and still got 1 A*, 4 As, 3 Bs and 3 Cs. I went into the 6th Form because all my mates did and because I thought that it was the right thing to do. Straight off the work was killing me and I couldn't get myself motivated to try, because I had done well at GCSE and thought it would just be the same. I got a B, a C and a D at AS. In the autumn term of my A2 year, I dropped out. The pressure had just got too much for me and I'd stopped going to lessons. I went to college to try a National Diploma but that wasn't right for me, either. I felt really bad because everyone I knew was going to uni and I wasn't, but I just couldn't stick to education. From then, I've worked a few jobs but have now been a legal secretary for three years, and have just applied to uni, and am teaching myself A-level English Language, so I really remember how much work you have to do!! I've had some very good job offers that would have meant that I got excellent training, to the equivalent of degree level, so that goes to show that Uni isn't the be all and end all, either. Now I'm a bit older (24 in August, gaaah!) I feel that I could cope with the work I need to do to get a good grade. If I'd stuck out my A2's and gone straight to uni from school I would've dropped out or had a nervous breakdown. The point I'm trying (and failing!) to make is that the straight A-level route isn't for everyone, and there's nothing to be ashamed of if it isn't the right time for you. Nor is leaving school now going to mean that you'll spend the rest of your days scrubbing toilets in Tescos! This being said, you're half way through the year. It really is worth sticking it out until after your AS exams, because it makes it quite a lot easier to go back to if you decide, like me, that you're better able to cope with it as an adult. As has been said above, before you make any decisions either way, speak to your parents and school careers advisor about it. They might be able to offer you some coping strategies that'll get you through the year, and perhaps give you a new desire to learn. Sorry to ramble a bit! Good luck chickadee! ~Felis~ |

My turning point was when I asked my mother if I was slimmer than a girl walking past us, and she said no, then pointed out her really quite big mum and said that I was the same size as her! I nearly died of shock and disgust. That, coupled with pictures from my 21st birthday when i was supposed to look like a princess and ended up looking like a pasty white pig in a corset and a wig, was enough to make me realise that I wasn't exactly slim any more! I just hadn't realised that I'd become that big...it snuck up on me!! | |||
