Weight Loss Does this happen to anyone else?? Jun 20 2008

Don't worry about it. I've lost 20% of my beginning weight (36lbs) gone down to a size 6 from a 10 and still no one in my family mentions it! It sucks because they always tell my SIL how great she looks now, she's lost about 30lbs too, but they say nothing to me! Why? Do they think I don't need to be encouraged too? It would be great but I say whatever! I know I've done a great job of getting and keeping the weight off and I'm just 6lbs from my goal weight so I congratulate myself.

I say, you know you look great, don't worry about other people noticing it, they're probably jealous that they don't have what it takes to do what your doing. I say, well done you, keep up the great work!

Weight Loss back fat: how do i lose it? Jun 18 2008

Although you cannot spot reduce, you can target the muscle in a particular area so that as the muscle gets stronger it makes the area appear more lean. This in combination with cardio and watching what kinds of foods you eat will help. You'll never reduce fat if you eat foods high in fatty content no matter how much you burn! You'll lose weight because you'll lose muscle...that's never the goal.

As for an exercise that will help, try pull ups and dips. I had the same problem, I started those two exercises regularly and within a few months, my back fat is just about gone! Yay!

Since I absolutely LOVE those carrot cake pancakes, I try not to dwell on how many calories they have and just enjoy them! I only have them on my cheat day and I only allow myself to eat one pancake, with no syrup...

Weight Loss Help! Plateau Oct 25 2007
19:03 (UTC)
I'm seriously trying to figure out what I need to change. I started this process in January weighing 181, got a trainer (don't think he helped much) started watching what I eat, counting calories, working out religiously, yada yada yada. $1500 and 4months later had only lost 8 stinking lbs! Got rid of the trainer, started listening to my body and lost 27lbs this year so far yeah!!!  But now I'm at a plateau, I haven't lost any real weight in about 3 months. I'm so frustrated I don't know what to do. I've tried changing my workout but I still can lose this last 20lbs...what is it going to take to break through this plateau???

Tasha, great job on losing 4.5lbs! That's awesome. I'm so glad that you have something to feel encouraged about. I read your journal, please add me to your friend list. Honey, your family sounds a lot like mine, only I'm the little sister that everyone still feels compelled to shelter, at 35yrs old and two kids!!! How that makes sense, I'll never know.

I've been doing this since 1 Dec 06...so far I've lost 25lbs and 5inches off my waist. It's hard to start but once you start seeing the results you get so pumped you just want to keep going. You can email me if you want and I'll share the full details of the drama that's called "My Life!" and we'll encourage each other to keep going....

momof_5 welcome to CC. Congrats on the 3lbs lost so far. I live on the other side of the country in Los Angeles, but you can definitely add me as a friend. I too am a single mom of two children (13 & 8). I know it's hard to find the time to go to the gym but whatever time you can find to work out, it makes a difference. Making better choices in your eating habits is huge too. So far you're on the right track so keep up the good work. We'll keep each other motivated!!!
Fitness targeting lower abs Oct 18 2007
18:08 (UTC)

Another really good exercise to try is: laying flat on your back. Bend your knees (like your sitting in a chair, only laying down). Place a 6 - 8lb medicine ball between your knees. Holding the ball between your knees, straighten your legs out and take your feet almost to the floor without touching it, and then back to the start position. It's hard but quite effective. I lost about an inch in less than a month doing these.

If you want to incorporate your upper abs: reach and grab the ball, take your arms straight behind your head while straightening your legs (your body should be in a flat straight line) feet still not quite touching the floor. Bring your body back to the start position (knees lifted like in a chair) replace the ball between your knees and do the first exercise again. Alternate the two positions, it's hard but it works.

Okay, I want to join the quest to lose 30 by 1 Jan 08! I only have 20lbs to go to reach my goal but if I can bring the new year in at goal weight that would be awesome!

My stats:

Lilmommy4u - 5'1.5", 155, BMI 28 Goal 135 by 1 Jan 08

I haven't weighed myself today so that is my last weight from Wednesday of last week...might be down, might be up from there...I'll post again tonight with an accurate weight.

Good luck everyone!

Congrats on your loss. 4lbs for the month sounds really good to me. I've lost 4lbs total over the last two months! I was starting to get frustrated but I guess I should just keep going and eventually I'll start to lose again...
Weight Loss eat & burn meters question Sep 13 2007
16:36 (UTC)
1
The burn meter is based on your BMR. That means your average activity level without accounting for extra exercising you're doing. Those activities should be added by using the activity log. The calories burned doing those activities will be combined with your BMR to give you the total number of calories burned daily. You should be losing weight as long as you create a 500 calorie deficit on intake vs. burned.
