What I do is look at how many servings are in the box and divide the pasta up before i put it in the water. So...if it says 4 servings I divide the box into 4 equal piles and only cook one pile for myself and if I have guests I cook the rest for them in a seperate pot.

I am so glad you asked this question and for those that responded. I work a graveyard shift and have been counting my calories from the time I wake up to the time I sleep. Chrissy's advice was wonderful THANKS!

My weigh in for April 1st..343.6 I almost forgot! I haven't weighed since about 2 weeks before the end of March because I am having some medical issues so I am using my last weight.

I'm weighing in for 3/1...I am at 345.2 as of 2/21/2008.  I am still out of town and that's the last time that I weighed.  So not the greatest weight loss but I'll take what I can get.

Well I just thought I'd give an update.  I still haven't made it back home yet and I'm still with family.  I'm leaving tomorrow morning to head back for 5 days and then its back home with family.  My family convienced me to come back after classes so that I can save some money.  The problem is food.  I went off my diet on Valentines Day and I have totally avoided getting back on it.  Its hard to stay on it when you have to depend on other people to feed you.  I'm trying to use portion control, but its hard when you have no control over the food being served.  I really can't complain because I'm just grateful for the food.  I'm afraid I've gained all the weight back that I've lost this month.  I will check in with my weight over the weekend! 

Everyone's doing a great job and it is so helpful to read everyone's stories.

One more thing....My chemical stress test is at 7:45 am CST tomorrow morning, and I am really kinda apprehensive about it. I have had two in the past, and one of them was absolutely horrible. Then they did it with different chemicals the second time and it went better, so I am nervous about it.

Well, I am really feeling pretty badly right now, so I need to not stay on the computer any longer, but I did want to come in and tell you all to keep on keepin' on, hold onto the Lord's hands. He has a great plan for you!

Hi Everyone!  Everyone is doing a great job on here and I'm really enjoying reading all the success and even those that are struggling, it keeps me grounded.  First off...PAM I hope you are feeling better JAYNE I hope your mother is doing well too!

Well I wanted to give an update.  I'm still back home and will probably be here until next Wednesday or Thursday.  I've really enjoying being with family and its nice to be out of the city for a while. 

I'm still looking for work and I had a really hard day yesterday.  I went to the local unemployment office to do some job hunting and found nothing.  On top of that the unemployment lady just made it worse by telling me how every position in my field had been "frozen" by the government.  Plus, she said that there are 9,000 people laid off every day and how hard it is going to be for me........THANKS LADY FOR CHEERING ME UP. I had a really hard time yesterday, but I was able to fight off the urge to emotionally eat.  I did stop and get a small tator tot at Sonics, but I did factor that into my daily calories and I did not go over them.  I consider that a success because I could have done a lot worse.

I haven't been on my scale in almost a week and its killing me.  I normally weigh everyday.  So I don't know how I am doing, but I do know that I am eating well and I am staying in my 1500 calories.  So when I do get back I hope I can share some good news with my weight.

Hi Everyone, sounds like you are all doing so well.  I've been very focused on losing this weight...I have not had this type of will power in about 8 years. Its really nice to dig this deep and find it. 

My family wanted me to come home for a while so I'm here.  Its always nice to go home, but then I realize that this is where all my bad eating habits came from (My first diet was when I was 5 years old...its always been this way).  So first thing that happens when I walk in the door is my mom has cooked hamburger steak and gravy, fried potatoes, and green beans OMG.  I did good and really just ate very very very small portions and no gravy.  Then my sis invites me to eat with them at the Mexican Place..thank goodness they had a "light" menue and then they ordered fried ice cream (I passed). 

This morning I get up and my sis is running to Hardees to get their breakfast...my God will the temptation stop lol....I told her that I would just make some toast.  So I did :) 

This is going to be a difficult 2 weeks but I can see some changes in my clothes so I don't want to stop having will power.  So I'm pushing through :)

I agree with everyone...get your doctor to check your thyroid and for PCOS. I did that in July 2008 and got diagnosed as having both PCOS and a thyroid issue.  The doctor put me on some medication and I'm doing better now.  Before I was gaining weight really fast and its harder to lose with the PCOS.  But I've been able to lose 22 pounds since I started the medication.  It takes being proactive and doing your research before you go to the doctor.  I found a doctor in town that actually knew a lot about PCOS and knew what I was talking about.  He said that he could just look at me and tell I had it.  Turns out I've had it since I was in Jr. High #1 no one knew what it was back then and #2 when I would go with my syptoms to the doctor as an adult no one figured it out because I didn't ask.  My friend had it and I saw some articles on it...so I did my research and found a doctor that was great.  Good Luck !

I feel lousy,  so now I am going to go to bed.

I agree with you.  Watching the Biggest Loser sometimes effects me and I start thinking I'm not losing enough.  Thanks to everyone who posted. This is great. I lost 2.4 pounds.

Does anyone have any good ideas about how much of a deficit I should have each day in order to lose about 3 pounds a week?  I have checked throughout the boards but it seems as if no one that has answered the question is 300+.  A lot of the boards were saying about 500 calories but they said they were almost at maintaince. 

Any feedback would be great.

SW (March 2008):  369

Jan 1 2009: 351

Feb 1 2009: 348.6

That's only 2.4...man I gotta kick it up.  My goal for March 1st is to be 340.

Jan 1 2008 I was 345 I gained up to 369(May 2008) now I'm back down to a starting weight for January 1, 2009 of 351.

My suggestion would be cook him the dinner and do a little scavenger hunt that leads to the lingerie.  You could incorporate the hour massage as suggested above as one of the scavenger gifts plus the book of quates, maybe a mixed CD of things to play while you put on the lingerie.  Its creative and he will appreciate the effort !  Good Luck!

This is what I needed to read this weekend.  It really inspired me!  I hope you don't mind if I make one too and post it in my journal (I'll give you all the credit) I found that a majority of what you listed were the same reasons why I'm dieting as well so I hope you don't mind that I just copied those onto my list.  I printed off my list yesterday and placed one in my purse and one on my fridge.  If I feel like cheating or not exercising I stop and read it.  THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
