Weight Loss GUYS - losing weight and scaring the bf....why?? Jan 27 2009

When I first starting losing weight a few years ago, I lost about 20 pounds in 7 months. The whole time my boyfriend would offer me all the unhealthly yet yummy food he could--all the time. It was hard to keep on track. After awhile it really got to me and I confronted him about it. He was worried that I wasn't eating enough and that I was working out too much. He was worried about my health. Once I explained my plan to him and told him that feeding me sugary and fatty foods all the time was counterproductive to my goal, he slowly stopped. I think he was still skeptical, but when I started experimenting with healthly low cal recipes that he actually liked, he got on board. I think he still worries about me sometimes when I'm counting calories (I recently restarted my journey), but I just have to keep reassuring him that I'm doing this for my health, not to be a skinny minny. :)

The same thing happens to me every month....without fail. Just keep going with your plan and ignore the scale for a few days. Like soliwit said, look forward to the big drop you'll see after you're feeling better in a few days. It is frustrating, but just keep telling yourself that all the hard work will payoff in the end--even if it seems hard at the moment.

Fitness Snowshoeing anyone? Nov 30 2008

The activity log says snow shoeing burns 554 calories per hour, and I'd say that's pretty accurate. It's probably more if you add a 30 lb pack. I got snow shoes for Christmas last year, and got to use them once. I can't wait to use them this year on a butte close to my house. It's a lot of hard work, especially if the snow is very wet or soft and you sink in deeper with every step. It's defintely a fun way to experience the snow!

This my exact situation too! My BF was the reason I gained weight in the first place; I would just eat the same amount, at the same times, as he. He is skinny skinny, extremely active in work and play, and actually has a hard time gaining weight. One year and 20 pounds later, I decided something needed to be done! At first he was very apprehensive about my 'diet', he always said all I needed to do was work out and then I could eat whatever I wanted, and that I was sexy the way I was, etc. etc.

After a month or two when he started seeing how much better my lifestyle change was making me feel, he gave me his support. When I sat down with him and explained exactly how I was going about losing weight, safely, and for my health, he felt a lot better about it. Now I can easily keep up with him on our backpacking trips, and he knows I can handle almost anything he can now, so we have more trail options, and I can DO MORE fun things!!!

He still has moments when he tries to get me to go out to McDonalds or eat an entire pizza with him, but I flat out tell him that kind of food doesn't sound appealing anymore, and I might have a bite, but I'm not going to pig out quite like he does sometimes. I think it's something I'll just have to keep working on and watching, because it's my responsibility to watch what I eat, not his.

I love making my own egg McMuffins! I usually use egg beaters, and I have tiny cups that make perfectly shaped microwave egg 'patties,' then I toast an english muffin, add cheese and sometimes lunchmeat, microwave a little more to melt the cheese, and VIOLA!

I am 21 as well, going into my last year of college and I can't wait to graduate! I noticed my weight gain after I began dating my boyfriend almost 2 years ago. He is the type that can eat and eat and eat and never gain a pound because he is so active in work and play. I didn't think about what I was eating then and just ate whatever he did...big mistake! Once I found this site I began portioning my food and exercising more. At first my boyfriend kept telling me all I had to do was exercise and eat whatever I want, but after 6 months he has seen the difference it has made; not only in my weight, but also my energy level and mood! Things we love to do together like backpacking are getting easier and easier for me. He is now behind me 100% and we have found many yummy & healthy recipes that we both love. We don't really eat out much at all, and when I go out with my friends I have a couple glasses of wine and don't worry about it (I just make sure I'm not doing it every night...maybe once a week or every two weeks). I realized I don't have to be a diet nazi to lose my extra weight, and I can have fun while doing it.

On my weight graph here on CC, my weight has little spikes right around "that time of the month," every month. It is a very predictable 3-8 pound rise every month. Now that I have noticed the pattern I don't get so mad at myself when I know it's about time for my weight to spike a little, now it just lets me know my body is working normally and I have nothing to worry about.

Haha, that is so cool! I remember doing calestinics (sp??) with my Mom all the time when I was little. I'd keep up too....but it was hard not to laugh at the 70's and 80's spandex suits all the time. :)

age: 21
height: 5'9"
Start weight: 169, Dec 06
current weight: 158
goal weight: 145ish
calories a day: 1400-1800, depending on how much I exercise
exercise:  45-60 minutes of biking, elliptical, stair-stepper, rowing, or walking/running on the treadmill (depends on what mood I am in that day) every MWF and Sunday with a LOT of streching and some pilates now and then.

I didn't start out with this much exercise, after my first month of counting calories I started upping my exercise (before that, it was maybe once or twice a week).

Welcome to CC! It has really helped me with portion control, it's a blessing.

I love to put cottage cheese on a baked red potato. It's kind of like sour cream, but I think it's better!

Fitness Finally, the elliptical! Feb 13 2007
23:54 (UTC)
I like the elliptical better. Whenever I run (which isn't much..haha) my knee joints, hips, everything aches for a day or two. On the elliptical, I get the same rewarding feeling of my muscles working and burning thanks to the variable resistance and incline levels but my joints aren't in pain the next day.

I didn't like it very much because on the days I work out, my calorie intake is higher, which puts me in the 'red' even though my deficet for the day is still good. I uninstalled it because seeing all that red was quite discouraging.

I certainly am! My family has a history of heart disease and I want my as healthy as can be to try and sidetrack my genetics. :) I also want to be as fit and healthy as possible when I get pregnant in a few years. Being healthy would be the best thing for me during the pregnancy and during the birth. I also want my kids to be able to look up to me, not be embarressed.

You could make french fries at home...I love to get frozen crinkle fries and bake them as a snack (it's about 120 calories for 18 fries...not bad and it gets a grade of 'B' on CC!). with fries, you could make a healthy version of a hamburger with ground turkey.

I also like to make casseroles, lots of leftovers for quick lunches and dinners for a couple days afterwards. I've found many great recipes on this site. One of my favorites is called "Creamy Chicken Casserole" I think.

Current: 159

Goal: 145 (by the end of May...just in time for bikini season! :), my real inpiration is my boyfriends graduation at the beginning of May, his parents are coming from Hawaii and everything, so I want to look smashing! :) but it would be difficult to make 145 by then so I'm planning to almost be to my goal weight by graduation and finish up by the end of the month.)
Weight Loss workout videos for abs/thighs? Jan 20 2007

I use a home video called 10 minute Pilates (or something close to that...). It has five 10 minute segments, each of which concentrate on a specific part of your body (ex: arms, abs, thighs/butt, cardio, and stretching). It's fun to be able to make my own routine with all the segments. and it works really well!
Foods Cottage Cheese with What? Jan 05 2007

I love to chop up a dill pickle and top off the cottage cheese with a little salt and pepper. My best friend's mom always did this when we were really young and I thought it sounded gross....until I tried it and now that's the way I have my cottage cheese the majority of the time.

The same thing happened to me with soda. I stopped drinking it when I was in my late teens, and now I don't desire it at all! It just doesn't sound logical to me now to eat something that won't fill me up or make my body feel good.

When did you join December 5, 2006

What did you weigh? 169

What do you weigh now? 161

Whats your goal? 149

What has been the hardest thing about losing? Getting used to smaller portions, because before I would just indulge, indulge, indulge.

What has been the easiest thing about losing? Using the food log feature, it really helps me be religious about watching what I eat, and how much. And I love trying new, healthy recipies every week.

What is the best thing about losing?  I feel better. My clothes fit better. I like knowing that this summer backpacking will be a lot easier because I will be healthier and fit. I have a picture of a beautiful mountain lake I hiked to this summer on my fridge to remind me of why I want and need to lose this weight.

I have the same problem! I think it is due to blood sugar levels, because mine have always been really sensitive (when I was little, a bowl of ice cream would make me go insane, then 30 minutes later I would crash and be real cranky). I usually try to eat a small snack when I get home from working out, a handful of almonds or some type of fruit.
